The Boom Bap Collection. Either good hip hop mixes are hard to come by these days or I just don't know where to look! Hip hop was/is my first musical love, and I've been on the lookout for good hip hop mixes for years - they only seem to pop up now and again through someone’s diligent Soundcloud scouring or from a house DJ going for something different. So a hip hop mix was naturally the first thing that sprung to mind when I was asked to do a podcast for musicforfriends. I've put together a collection of tracks from some of my favourite producers and MC's - some you will have heard before, some you won't. Even though this selection isn't technically inspired by him, the mix is dedicated to a great friend of mine: Michael Russell aka Russ. Russ is a guy who literally eats, sleeps and breathes tunes. He's someone who I can always go to with anything music related and one of my biggest musical inspirations, as it were. Anyway, this mix was done with the car/bus/train in mind, starting off slow and building all the way through…a journey through the world of real hip hop as I see it.
