Muslim Heroes Who Defied the Nazis

The sources before us document the heroism of Muslims, Righteous Among the Nations, who risked their lives to save Jews during the Holocaust. The texts emphasize the Albanian code of honor "Basa," which served as a moral compass for granting refuge to refugees, and review moving rescue cases in countries such as Albania, Turkey, Egypt, and Bosnia. Among the prominent figures mentioned are Dr. Muhammad Helmi, who hid Jews in Berlin, and Consul Salah al-Din Olkuman, who acted against his government's instructions to rescue families from deportation in Rhodes. In addition, the story of Rafik Veseli, the first Albanian to be recognized by Yad Vashem for his defense of the Mandil family, is presented. This documentation is intended to preserve the memory of human partnership and to build bridges of tolerance between religions and communities in the modern world.
