“My Best Friends Call Me Gil”

Ladies and gentlemen, I had the pleasure of sitting down with a very talented individual, Gilbert Louie Ray Montoya. Gilbert has been performing as a musician for years with his band in Los Angeles performing mixes of Americana, Bluegrass, Folk and Country. But I brought him on the show to discuss his first solo album which debuted last year. He named it “My Best Friends Call Me Gil.” You can find it on iTunes, Amazon Music, Spotify, YouTube, or wherever else music is found. We talk about what inspired him to make the album (mostly from drinking, relationships, traveling with his band, and being one of the few locals from Los Angeles) We’ll discuss how his father, a singer and musician, was the reason he picked up music, and why his album was inspired and dedicated to his grandfather who gave him the creative space to explore his craft and passion for music which was why he decided to sport a picture of his grandfather as the cover for the album. Gilbert also gives us the first live performance on the show, playing one of his original songs “Beginning of Being,” giving a powerhouse performance on guitar and harmonica. We get into our favorite sci-fi and fantasy trilogies, the writings of Joseph Campbell, and which musicians he relates to the most.
