My Brother is My Life - Fr. Gregory - November 3, 2024

Fr. Gregory opens his sermon with a quote from St. Silouan the Athonite, who said “My brother is my life.” This Sunday’s Gospel reading — the story of the rich man and Lazarus — is one of many which illustrates the importance of this lesson.Fr. Gregory explains that the rich man’s sin was not his wealth, nor anything that he did. Rather, it was what he left undone, his unwillingness to show compassion to Lazarus.The Scriptures warn us that wealth can tempt us to not rely on God, to harden our hearts, to be prideful, and to forget that every good gift comes from God. However, we can be good stewards of these gifts, helping our brother who is our life.
