My Diagnosis Journey: Confronting Gaslighting (P1)

from Life as a Patient-Doctor · host Dr. Stephanie Moss, MD

Medical Gaslighting is a phenomenon where healthcare providers dismiss, downplay, or manipulate patients' symptoms, leading to delayed or misdiagnosis, particularly for women, people of color, and those with chronic illnesses like endometriosis. As a chronic illness warrior, sharing my endometriosis story, as a medical student and future doctor, I've encountered healthcare bias and disparities that hinder patient empowerment. Through my diagnostic journey, I've learned the importance of patient advocacy, navigating diagnosis, and illness empowerment. In this video, we'll explore the intersection of race and medicine, how medical students can become better allies, and provide advocacy tips for patients to take control of their health. By sharing our lived experiences and raising awareness about endometriosis, infertility, and chronic pain, we can work towards a healthcare system that listens to and believes patients. Join me in this critical conversation about medical gaslighting and let's empower patients together.Based on the following article: https://www.endofound.org/the-connection-between-pelvic-pain-childhood-trauma-a-medical-student-tells-her-story*** You should NEVER Push through Pain****Articles Mentioned:- McKenna, K.
