My Dog Won't Stop Scratching

When is scratching too much scratching? We all know Fido loves to have a good scratch whenever it takes his fancy. But there comes a time when it’s no longer a bit of random “here and there” scratching and you start to notice your furry mate is spending an awful lot of his (or her) time licking, rubbing, scratching or chewing themselves. Perhaps their body, their paws, their tail, their legs. Some people are tempted to label this behaviour a habit. But Dr Glenn is quick to point out that this kind of behaviour is rarely a habit and is more likely because they really are very itchy. So if they actually are itchy, surely its as simple as putting a bit of soothing cream on the spot and it will go away right? Wrong. Unfortunately it’s rarely as simple as that. The list of potential causes for itching and scratching is lengthy and convoluted. Whilst there are some obvious causes that you may see such as fleas there are many other causes that are less easy to determine.
