"My Eating Disorder is What Makes Me Special"

from The Emotional Eating (and Everything Else) Podcast

Have you ever found yourself thinking that ignoring your hunger is THE THING that makes you special?  Or maybe it's your ability to eat very little during the day.  Or maintain a very thin body.   Very often, folx who severely restrict their food intake (and especially for those in very thin bodies) have a part or parts who truly believe that their ability to eat so little or to be so thin, is the THE THING that makes them special.  This is often a protection from very deep-seated beliefs of not being good enough, of being invaluable.  These parts can be both protectors and exiles and need our attention and compassion. In this episode, we're discussing  parts who feel that their eating disordered behaviors are what makes them special.  We focus on examples of these parts, why they're there, why they can be difficult to shift, and how to work toward healing them. My workbook, Heal Your Love-Hate Relationship with Food:  An Intuitive Eating and Internal Family Systems Workbook is available for preorder!  Check it out here!   Where to find me: drkimdaniels.com Instagram TikTok
