My Friends Are Better Than Yours Featuring Keith Perrin of FUBU

The acronym FUBU worked its way into our vocabulary back in 1992 and stood as the basis for Black-owned businesses catering to Black businesses. For Us By Us still is a call to arms for Black entrepreneurs to make their way to success. I am in no way saying that the blueprint that the founders of FUBU used wasn’t done before. Even if I wanted to say that, I’d be a fool since I freelance for Black Enterprise which was THE blueprint for Black entrepreneurs that has been around for over 50 years. Yet, four Black men from Queens, Keith Perrin, J. Alexander Martin, Carl Brown, and Daymond John were able to change the way we looked and felt about fashion. The four men are still making waves with the FUBU fashion label but all have also created other ventures that still drive the FUBU brand. Perrin started and runs FUBU Radio which is still growing and showing Black entrepreneurship still thrives in the heart of Perrin. The Industry Cosign’s BIG CED has a conversation with Perrn about his venture into entrepreneurship, the history of FUBU and the many years of functioning as a brand, and what his future plans are for not only the brand but, FUBU Radio specifically. The standard of Black entrepreneurship was enveloped when Perrin and friends embarked on their journey to ownership that escaped many people before them. Perrin still strives to make waves in another industry that has been kind to Black people but could still use a big infusion of talent and on the executive level to show the growth that the culture of hip-hop has shown over the past several decades. The commitment to better himself is still instituted in the Queens-bred entrepreneur who still incorporates the mindset that he and his friends had when they decided to disrupt the fashion industry some decades ago.
