My journey through child loss, mental health, self care lead me back to myself Emma Needleman

from Can't Call Your Mom with Nicole Weston · host Nicole Weston | Motherless mothers navigating life after motherloss

Emma shared pieces of her journey of becoming a mother.  *Disclaimer* In this episode we do talk about child loss which can be triggering.   “After becoming a mother myself, I found that there was a huge discrepancy in how I thought I was "supposed" to parent and how I actually felt drawn to parent.  I had a career as a midwife that I had worked hard for and that was my passion in life, but after having my first son, the immense amount of time spent away from him felt wrong in the core of my belly.” During my return to work as a midwife, I experienced two complicated pregnancies.  One which ended in a ruptured ectopic pregnancy requiring emergency surgery and the other was my son, Jonah, who was stillborn at 26 weeks gestation.   Following my son's death, I was thrown into a world of immeasurable grief but it also shone the light on what was working in my life and what was not.  I came to understand that my passion in life for helping new mamas and mother-identified folx was still strong, but that I needed to be able to find a way of doing it that was sustainable for my own physical and mental health so I could show up for my family, clients, and myself in a way that felt authentic, grounded, and conscious.  I am an IBCLC, early parenting educator, and former Registered Midwife in Ontario with almost 15 years experience supporting parents and families in their pregnancy, postpartum, and early parenting journeys.
