My Mark Twain Chapter 10

In which the author fondly recalls the hospitable Hartford home of his dear friend, its warm gatherings, and the latter's amusing nightly rituals to combat sleeplessness; and together they set out with anticipation for the centennial celebrations at Concord, only to find their plans hilariously thwarted by an impenetrable throng and the unyielding April chill. Their thwarted journey and inventive fibs thereafter are recounted with a gentle humour that softly illumines the enduring camaraderie between them.
