My Mothers Belly by Sonya Renee Taylor

from Reverse, Reset, Restore · host Sally

Send us Fan MailIn this short episode, which serves as an accompaniment inspired by Sonia Renee Taylor's transformative work, "The Body is Not an Apology,"  (our Foundation Friday book this month), we delve into the sacred narrative of creation, a mother's body and our relationship to it by sharing two poems.  Starting with the raw emotion of Taylor's poem "My Mother's Belly" This heartfelt piece captures the awe-inspiring power of a mother's body, and I'm thrilled to share it with you once again, after featuring it on the Foundation Friday episode. It's a space where we honor the roots of existence, and Taylor's words invite us to feel deeply and to acknowledge the gift of life. I've shared her poem over on the Foundation Friday Episode "The Body Is Not An Apology - episode 80. The second poem in today's episode  is  by yours truly! The spectrum of motherhood is vast, and not all experiences echo the same warmth found in Sonya's poem.  I'm sharing with you, a commissioned, untitled piece, reflecting on the complexities of a maternal bond marred by pain and distance. This poem, born from a friend's struggle with her mother's terminal illness  and their  fraught relationship, presents a stark contrast to the relationship in SRT's poem.Through these poems, we're reminded that the maternal influence is powerful and varied, capable of shaping us in ways both tender and tumultuous. I invite you to connect with me across our social media and join the conversation—whether to share your resonance, your reflections, or your own poetry that navigates the intricate dance of motherhood and how that has shaped our experiences to our bodies. Your voice is a valuable addition to this homage to the connections that define our very beginning. If you'd like to read both poems,  and not just hear them,  I've  featured  them in our blog and on the Reverse Reset Restore FB page and Foundation Friday FB Group page.
