My Music Episode 211 - Alex Kate

from My Music · host Graham Coath

Graham talks music with Alex Kate! Described as reminiscent of Kate Bush and Karen Carpenter (Send Me Your Ears & Sinusoidal) Alex Kate has entered the music industry ring as someone to be heard. Achieving the “2023 Glastonbury emerging talent longlist”, others think so too. Her sound has journeyed from synth pop, to rock pop back to synth pop again with her third EP. But one thing remains the same, her haunting vocals and her “hatful of hooks and earworms” (At The Barrier) throughout her songs. Her main sonic influences are, Kate Bush, Fleetwood Mac, 1975, Christine & The Queens and Florence and The Machine. Alex has been lucky to have been able to film in Cape Town two years in a row, having family out there. When Alex is not working on her music, she is spending time with her followers on TikTok and her three-word song challenge in which her community shares three words with her which she then turns into songs.
