Philosopher Bry Willis discusses Convergence Realism and his position in Epistemology. All access is mediated. There is no unfiltered view from nowhere, no conceptual aperture through which reality appears exactly as it is independently of every biological, perceptual, historical, and linguistic condition.This does not entail that reality is fabricated by the observer.Mediation structures encounter; it does not grant sovereignty over constraint. Gravity does not negotiate. Toxins remain inconveniently unpersuaded by discourse. Perceptual systems may carve the field differently, yet patterned resistances recur across observers, instruments, species, and models.I therefore locate objectivity not in transcendence of position but in convergent stability across positional variation. Amartya Sen’s distinction between positional and trans-positional objectivity is useful here: the so-called view from nowhere must itself be constructed from views somewhere.Reality is what continues to exert disciplined pressure across divergent mediations. This is realism without pretending that anyone has slipped behind encounter to inspect an unmediated substrate.Science is extraordinarily effective at engineering such convergence. That does not mean its theories are literal inventories of ultimate furniture. Scientific models may be structurally adequate, predictively powerful, and corrigible without functioning as transparent metaphysical photographs.
