My Reaction To Day 1 Of The 2023 Big Ten Media Days | Big Ten Football 2023

from College Football with Sam · host Samuel Recker

Plenty was communicated on Day 1 of Big Ten Media Days. Today, Bret Bielema, Greg Schiano, Mel Tucker, David Braun, James Franklin, Kirk Ferentz, and Ryan Day all represented their respective programs at the podium and answered media questions. I was impressed by Ryan Day, Mel Tucker, and Greg Schiano the most, with each of them setting the tone and expectation for their season, while also having a sense of humility. I think that all of their teams are set to improve this season, especially Michigan State, who I think is a lock to hit the over on their preseason win total of 4.5. Mel Tucker seems to be all in this year and locked on improving from a disastrous 2022 campaign. Tucker is tied for the highest-paid coach in the Big Ten along with Ryan Day, and although he inherited far worse circumstances than Day, at some point Michigan State's failures will have to be attributed to him and not Mark Dantonio. However, I am confident Michigan State improves this year, as the team is healthier and more physical, especially at the lines of scrimmage with Nick Samac, JD Duplain, and Simeon Barrow Jr returning along the offensive and defensive lines. For Ohio State, Ryan Day is confident his team will take big steps forward defensively with players like Tommy Eichenberg and JT Tuimoloau. Day also praised his quarterback room and his offensive line, and, while admitting that there are some struggles and competition in those rooms, he is confident in those groups' ability to succeed. I have the Buckeyes pegged as the No.2 team in the country for this season, and I think they will reach the National Championship game. While a step behind in terms of resources and on-field success, Rutgers' head coach Greg Schiano thinks that his team is close to becoming a true Big Ten program. The Scarlet Knights return quarterback Gavin Wimsatt and they bring in Kirk Ciarrocca to fix the offense.
