My Thoughts On Iowa Football Entering The 2023 Season | Iowa Football 2023

from College Football with Sam · host Samuel Recker

The Iowa Hawkeyes have been dreadful on offense for years due to poor coaching, schematics, and nepotism. Will incoming transfers, a great running back, and returning experience on the offensive line change that, or will the consistency that holds the defense high continue to plague the offense? After 2 seasons of miserable offenses and a Covid-19 season that was riddled with varying issues, the Spencer Petras era has concluded. Petras was not able to play for most of the Nebraska game or in the Music City Bowl against Kentucky. While showing flashes of potential throughout his career, Petras never developed and was consistently one of the worst quarterbacks in the nation. His poor play, along with poor schemes and development on the offensive line, cost Iowa a Big Ten Championship appearance in 2022 and a New Year's Six bowl game in 2021. However, Kirk Ferentz made a wise decision and reach out for help via the Transfer Portal, bringing in former Michigan quarterback Cade McNamara and tight end Erick All. Both were part of a roster that went 12-2 and won the Big Ten in 2021 (ironically beating Iowa in Indianapolis). The Hawkeyes also bring in star wide receiver Kaleb Brown from Iowa, who should be a day-one contributor. With consistency on defense, incoming talent on offense, and an easy schedule, I expect Iowa to be a much-improved team in 2023.
