In prehistoric times, people gathered around campfires; in ancient Greece, they met in the "agora," an open space where free citizens could listen to civic announcements, military campaigns, or discuss politics.In 1984, this concept was revitalized when architect and graphic designer Richard Saul Wurman, along with typography and television expert Harry Marks, organized a conference to bring together specialists in Technology, Entertainment, and Design—hence the acronym TED.
