Summary

I went away for a 6 week trip…..er…..18 months! I was bumming around Central and South America, tripping over Spanish, border crosses and doing my best to get out of my own way, heaven forbid I should trip over myself. Only I did. I fell down a bunch, just like a kiddo on my first pair of skis. And now I’m doing my best to recount the tale, one solo episode at a time. In this first mini memoir I talk about arriving in Nicaragua to the sound of words I couldn’t understand and the site of whole families on motorcycles - sin helmets. I planned to learn how to teach English as a second language, then volunteer, travel a bit and come home. The return ticket went down the drain and I had the adventure of a lifetime! I talk about ….. the one thing that will make anyone want to learn a new language, even a lazy American.
