As high school students passionate about equitable and accessible mental health care, they were astonished to see that their school’s mental health resources webpage was dated, difficult to use, and not as helpful as it intended to be. So, they embarked on a mission to develop the world’s first machine learning chatbot, dedicated to serving as a comprehensive directory for high school students.Their chatbot is designed to bridge the gap and provide assistance in coping with stress, anxiety, and various mental health challenges. The chatbot is a neural network built with a TensorFlow sequential model. They collaborated with the Hamilton Lab at the Rutgers University Department of Psychology in New Brunswick to compile training data for the model. With a focus on user experience, Myndful.AI offers a sleek and intuitive interface for direct FREE communication with the chatbot, as well as a convenient menu that provides quick access to curated resources addressing various mental health concerns.Through this edWeb podcast, listeners are able to learn about artificial intelligence applications in the classroom and how this emerging technology can be used to support students and their mental health. In an increasingly technological era, it is important that both students and educators learn how to use technology for good to best prepare for the future.Myndful.AI is currently available to all students nationwide. They have created custom pages for schools across New Jersey with school-specific resources. Myndful has been used nearly 40,000 times in the past three months and serves 5,000.
