Mystery Ships

from Strange Things with Chris James · host Chris James

In September 1860 the crew of the whaler Hope spotted a battered ship emerging from a gap between two icebergs in the Drake Passage. The Drake Passage is the body of water between South America's Cape Horn and the South Shetland Islands of Antarctica. As the Hope sailed closer to the unknown ship the crew saw what looked like seven men standing at attention on the main deck. As the hope closed, they realized the men appeared frozen solid, as if caught out in some storm and flash frozen. All the bodies appeared to be in good condition and recently frozen. On September 21, 1928, the København departed from Nørresundby in Northern Jutland for Buenos Aires on its tenth voyage. There were 75 people onboard, which including 26 crew and 45 cadets. As months went by without any word, the folks back home became concerned. In April 1929 the Danish East Asiatic Company dispatched a motor vessel, the Mexico, to Tristan da Cunha to search for the Kobenhavn. Searchers were constantly hearing reports of the ship in various parts of the world. It has never been found. Here are some ships that disappeared only to pop up from time to time.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/strange-things-with-chris-james--4931876/support.
