N-I-T Selection: New Rules & Automatic Bids

The N-C-A-A will unveil the 2026 mens basketball tournament teams on March 15th, followed by the N-I-Ts selection. The N-I-Ts team selection rules have evolved over the years, with recent changes aimed at balancing the field. Under the current system, regular-season conference champs excluded from the N-C-A-A tournament receive an automatic bid if they meet certain ranking criteria. There are also exempt bids for top teams in the A-C-C, S-E-C, and the twelve strongest conferences. Automatic qualifiers for the 2026 tournament include Belmont, Liberty, U-N-C Wilmington, Navy, South Alabama, and Stephen F. Austin.
