Nada the Lily Chapter 31 - The War of the Women

In which the fair and enigmatic Nada the Lily enters the kraal of the People of the Axe, causing stir and discord among the wives of Umslopogaas, the Slaughterer, as old rivalries and jealousies awaken beneath a veneer of solemn custom. The gathering of headmen and women sees challenges to Umslopogaas’s power and the beginning of a divided household, whilst Mopo, the cautious observer, contemplates the fragile balance between love, fate, and strife.
