Nancy Guthrie's Ransom Hoaxer Got THIS Punishment

Nancy Guthrie's disappearance is still unsolved after six months, but a separate case tied to it just wrapped up in court. A California man admitted to sending the Guthrie family fake bitcoin ransom demands during the active search for her — and the punishment he received has former investigators furious. His charge was pled down to harassment, which caps out at two years federally. The sentence: five years of probation, with both counts running together instead of stacked on top of each other. Retired FBI special agent Jennifer Coffindaffer called the outcome a travesty, warning it sets a precedent that could encourage the flood of copycat notes still coming in — a batch investigators are calling the TMZ Twelve, which the FBI has reportedly signaled are likely fake. Two other notes are being handled very differently by investigators. One is considered the real ransom demand — four million dollars, an escalating threat, and a final threat against Nancy's life. The other is an apology letter, sent only to local television stations, expressing remorse and calling her death accidental.
