Narin Güran: Family Betrayal and the Silent Witness of the River

In the summer of 2024, the village of Tavşantepe in Diyarbakır, Turkey, was shaken by a horrifying tragedy. An 8-year-old girl, Narin Güran, vanished after returning from her Qur’an lessons. For 19 days, villagers and rescue teams searched tirelessly, until Narin’s body was finally discovered in the river, wrapped in a sack weighed down with stones. This discovery opened a Pandora’s box—not just about a missing child, but of family scandal, betrayal, conspiracy, and deliberate attempts to sabotage the search. Shocking revelations followed—from DNA traces found in her uncle’s car, to a neighbor’s paid testimony, and even the dark secret of a forbidden family affair. In this episode, you’ll uncover how the investigation unraveled layer after layer of lies, who was ultimately sentenced to life imprisonment, and how Turkish society responded with protests and sharp criticism of both the media and the government. More than just a criminal case, Narin’s story is a chilling reminder that the most horrifying crimes often lurk behind closed doors—within families themselves. Her tragedy stands as a reflection of social failure, collective wounds, and a powerful message to prevent such horrors from ever happening again.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/deadly-truths--6551875/support.
