Welcome to Narnia Fans Cast Episode #50. This week, guest host Mr. Beaver helps celebrate the 50th episode before Evening Star explores Thresholds, looking at one of fantasy’s most important devices: the passage from our world into another. From the looking glass and The Twilight Zone to Stargate and Somewhere in Time, the discussion considers what makes a portal believable before turning to two of C.S. Lewis’s most memorable examples: the wardrobe in The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe and the painting in The Voyage of the Dawn Treader. The episode then continues The Bard’s Tale with Chapters 12 through 14 of Harrod’s Bend, an original Narnian drama by John Burkitt. Ripley Pond discovers that being an otter doesn’t necessarily mean knowing how to swim, but an old beaver named Sam helps him find his place in the river. Rip also begins learning the carpenter’s trade, discovers a talent he never knew he possessed, and earns the attention of one of Harrod’s Bend’s most prominent residents. As Rip learns to swim, work, and trust himself, the inventor who once dreamed of flying begins to realize that he may have reinvented himself.
