Despite being far from the ocean, she developed a fascination with sharks at a very young age. She holds a first-class honors bachelor's degree in marine vertebrate zoology, a master's degree in marine environmental management, and a Ph.D. in marine sciences. Her doctoral research focused on the use of aerial drone surveys, acoustic telemetry, satellite tracking and stable isotope analysis to investigate seasonal aggregations and migration patterns of blacktip sharks (Carcharhinus limbatus) in Cabo Pulmo National Park, Mexico.
