Laughy Taffy. You know what? I've already said too much. Let's get started.
As my mom would say, it's a time in the land, like literally, it is a time in the land with so much commotion and stress and just craziness going on right now with COVID-19. It is awesome that today is National Let's Laugh Day because I think it's just what the doctor ordered because as you know, there have been a number of studies that find that laughter can really be good for your health. It is an awesome stress reliever. And then, too, a lot of people find that their most popular way to interact with other people is through laughter.
So although because right now we're having to practice social distancing, you can't just go to a comedy club or comedy show somewhere at a little hole in the wall and enjoy a laugh with a group full of people. But what you can do is pull out your phone and give a friend a call. Somebody you haven't talked to in a long time and yuck it up with them. Make jokes, talk about the old times.
And just like seriously, my phone has been ringing off the hook. My daughter's been out of school and yesterday she really like literally rolled her eyes at me because every time I got off the phone, my phone rang again and it was somebody that I hadn't talked to in forever and we had a good time. I'm just saying. So all of that to say that in tough times, there's always a way.
But back to National Let's Laugh Day. The creator of National Let's Laugh Day is Laffy Taffy. Now Laffy Taffy's sold under the Wonka brand for Candy and each piece has a joke on the rapper making it officially the funniest candy in the world. But did you know that the original Candy wasn't called Laffy Taffy?
Now this is funny because I'm going to spell this for you. It's B-E-I-C-H apart to be us caramels. Isn't that bitches? I'm just saying.
Were they bitches carals? Carals? That in itself is funny if you ask me. One of the things that I found funny during this time period which some people probably aren't finding that so funny but because I'm a teacher I think it's hilarious because I often said, especially in the beginning of my career when things were really tough when parents looked at me and like well how old are you anyway and do you have any kids and raw raw raw in my face typing like you can't tell me about my kids, my kids don't do that, I didn't raise my children like that.
They wouldn't say that they wouldn't do that. Now. Parents are getting to see that their kids really are a handful because with the coronavirus parents are having the homeschooled their kids And I often said to myself You know what? I wish everybody had to be a teacher for a day or a week just to see how tough it really is and these parents They just have their own kids imagine having a group of 25 to 30 kids that you don't even know You know you have to get to know them over the school year But these are your own children parents and they're driving you up the wall.
Welcome to my world. Yes. Thank you, please and thank you Yes, so there have been some hilarious tweets out there from parents that are kind of like, you know It's just day one and OMG I don't know what in the world I'm gonna do they're talking about how teachers need to get paid more than professional athletes and Celebrities and you know I can't argue with them because it is a tough job We do a whole lot and a little bit of time with their little babies and send them home and you know We do it over and over again five days a week But man oh man the hilarious tweets about now some parents are out there and they're tweeting their whole schedule like at nine o'clock They get up and then they eat breakfast and they watch their face and they do this and then they go here And then we go for a walk and then we do a nature talk and then we read an article and we yeah There's some parents that are real structured like that because they have to be structured because if not you're gonna have chaos That's why we do it that way in schools as well is called a lesson plan guys called a lesson plan use it and it'll work Well for you, but if you want a good laugh you just go and go on Twitter look up like homeschool 2020 or Coronavirus homeschool if you just look at homeschool period You're gonna find a lot a lot a lot of hilarious tweets where people are drinking early in the morning Because they're just they just can't handle it and it's you know So it's funny as it is to me I think what I am gonna do though is I'm gonna put a video out there for some of the parents who maybe their school district didn't put together a Good package. I know my school district didn't I'm not trying to throw any shade But the little packet they spent sent out to us to say here use this with your kids while schools out It would have never worked as a lesson plan in a real classroom They would have looked at it the principal would have looked at it and been like what is this?
What do you think this is a babysitter's you know type thing? No go take that back and Figure it out and bring it back to me when you got something that you really want me to consider because this right here ain't it? So my plan is to put a video out there for those parents that might be struggling Especially now that they're saying the unforeseeable future schools gonna be canceled So this may go all the way into the start of the new year. Who knows so parents?
I'm gonna throw your lifeline and I hope you can catch Alright, so let me show this real quick story with you I'm gonna try to make it quick went to the store yesterday got in line all I needed was dog food the dogs got eat They're not eating up my food right so the lady behind me online She's kind of like you know So everybody else in the store is that basket full of stuff because they can't find the toilet to choose So they're buying every and any other possible thing that they can even see because they're afraid those things are gonna disappear too So she's looking at me and she she finally gets the courage of asking she's like um all you need is dog food I'm like yeah, and she's like she have a dog and I'm like No, I don't have a dog Decided that you know drastic times call for drastic measures And so I'm gonna go back on the dog food diet that I had done a little while ago and she's like what what's that? And I said well This is diet where you just carry with you like a handful of dog food I tried dog food you put it in like a little zip lock and as you get hungry you just pop a little kibble in your mouth and you keep it moving and She was just kind of like what well did it work? And I'm like well kind of you know I lost 15 pounds, but I ended up in the hospital as well So I don't know I'm still here now. So I guess it's a good thing and so I figure why not try it again And she's just like oh my gosh.
So like did you get poisoned from the dog food or something? And I'm like no no that that's crazy talk right there. It's dog food like it's nothing poisonous in it or your dogs We get sick. I was like so what happened was I Bent down the smell the butt of a dog and I hit by a truck the man behind her in line was screaming He so of course, you know this whole conversation everybody around us is in our conversation now because I think of anything most of them We're like all the poor little black girl she had to buy dog food because she probably doesn't have anything else And that's the way that she's gonna have to make it through this really rough time.
Yeah, okay Believe that if you want to but um, I honestly think though that she left out of that store thinking that I do eat dog food because she We got up to the register. She told the cashier. She's like I'll pay for hers So I got my dog food for free Jokes on her Anyway jokes on you guys because that's not a true story. That's just something I saw on Facebook I was hoping they know we had read that one yet, but In drastic times we need to find ways to laugh So hopefully you chuckled a little bit and if not then you know what?
I'm not a comedian anyway Thanks for joining me for another episode of tweet trends on this national Let's laugh day So hopefully you got a good laugh or maybe a little chuckle and if you didn't get either here's my recommendation Go over to Netflix and look up a comedian there because they actually get paid to make people laugh and I don't okay I never said I was funny, but I try I do just for you because I love you that much anyway So do that or maybe give a friend a call and reminisce because that always brings a laugh somewhere unless you got that blood with that Person and that's the case don't call them call the person that you had fun with because you want to find a way to laugh in these tough times Get rid of the stress and the anxiety that you may have you can't control the coronavirus So rather than letting it control you continue to wash your hands Continue to practice social distancing and find some ways every day to laugh All right, so I hope you have a great weekend.
