Welcome to the tweet trends podcast. Hey, what's trending today? Hey, I mean, hey girl And you are tuned in to tweet trends is the quickest way to find out what's trending today Hey there. Welcome back to tweet trends.

This coming Saturday is a national siblings day So on today's episode I've got my sister Sharon and my husband win and they're gonna join me and help me out with today's episode So let's get started All right, so today isn't actually national siblings day It's actually on Saturday, but I'm really excited because I have never been near any of my siblings during national siblings day So I've never had an opportunity other than like posting pictures on Facebook and stuff like that And it's just not the same But I'm actually going to get to see one of my siblings on National siblings day So I decided that today was going to be the day that I was going to actually talk about it on the show And so I've got my sister right here with me. Hi Hello, and I also have my husband which is technically my sister's brother now since you know the whole brother-in-law thing So I've got him in place with my brother. Hey, I'm hey to a trans fam So I got some things I want to talk about and I want to get you guys's thoughts on it dealing with siblings And so just to kind of let you guys know they have no idea what I want to talk about So it is so funny sitting here looking at their faces. They have no idea where I'm going with this But it's gonna be good Have either of you heard of a man by the name of Alfred Adler before no idea what that is Nope, okay This is kind of like jeopardy, you know, we got that random dumb knowledge type stuff We're like who would ever know like if he was your next-door neighbor, you would have no idea who this man is However, he came up with the birth order theory.

I know y'all have heard of that, right? Okay. Yes. Yes.

Do you buy into that? Do you think it's like for real? I So I'm on the fence with that because I'm on the fence overall so What does that even mean because on my when you look at the grand scheme of things I am the middle son out Of on my father's side with all of my half my half siblings there But on my mom's side I am the lead of the pack so when I subscribe to it initially then on my mom's side Absolutely makes sense but to be the third in line on the other side. I don't subscribe to it Well, I'm the youngest only child so I mean I hear you with your complicated birth order position situation But it's the same with me.

I think my sister is the only one with a cut and dry You know, let's get her take. Yeah, do you do you buy into that all thing? Somewhat, I think I think there's some merit to it Why because you're the oldest well the oldest usually is held to higher standard There's higher expectations you supposed to set the example and You know, there's expectations the second one it comes along Sometimes there's the things loosen up a little bit and then when the baby come along Right there when the baby comes along the parents forget what they did with the first two Okay, okay, I hear you I hear you I think they don't forget what they did They realized what they did was wrong and it's time to fix what they did in the past They had to let their hair down a little bit. I don't know if it was wrong, but it may have been so long They might have forgot well, so now you're speaking specific with our family because there's a big gap between me and you and my brother So well not even the three of us the two of y'all are like regular kids and I like I said I'm the youngest only child because I'm whatever man My position is that I was pretty much for the most part raised at home by myself Although I had two siblings that were older than me and so yeah, it I'm the youngest only child And so I don't think that they forgot about what they did when y'all were around They just realized that I was the fun kid and so we had a little fun stuff Why are you back there laughing because I by that determination and the oldest only child because for my mom Then I'm the oldest and then the other three all had the same dad and so there is a totally different regime as far as how they were raised than me and I got a lot more grace a lot more latitude to just do whatever So you're right you're right you're right so to go to Alfred Adler's Theory just to kind of for those people who have no idea what in the world we're talking about They say that the well day he says that the oldest child is like Sharon said is Expected they're held to higher expectations.

They are expected to set the example for their siblings And I don't know she'll agree with this part But they tend to be like the authoritarian and have strict approaches about things now. I am in on that one So but with both the all being oldest that like applies to both of you. Yeah, I would agree with it All right, so I'm gonna go to mine the youngest older siblings are like the mom and dad Yes, I got a story for that And everyone tells them what to do mmm praise them. Yes.

Yes. They do and that seems to stick with them all their lives Yeah, yeah, yeah, mm-hmm. I feel like a lot of times I say things and it just kind of goes over people say because they like So now my other part my alter ego the only child they get the full attention of the parents They tend to be over protected spoiled they like being the center of attention They prefer prefer adult company and have difficulty sharing. I don't think I have difficulty sharing But I can kind of subscribe to that, you know, some I me some I me So I don't have the only child perspective as much because boy you were spoiled on even When you say spoiled I think it was more or less I was given a lot of latitude That's that's how I like to see I was I was given space to figure out who I was and to to become myself Also known as spoiled and over protected So now I didn't touch on the middle child thing and when that kind of speaks to you kind of sorta almost And they basically there wasn't a whole lot of explanation for the middle child other than they often feel neglected And so when I think about our our middle kid our brother I don't think of him as that guy because it was just a tool y'all for so long He was more of the youngest than the middle but then with him being the only boy Then that gave him extra privileges and rights and even though I think with you being the only girl that should have given you extra privileges and rights as well I don't know extra but I felt that I he was younger than me So I had to protect him and and I did in certain situations when he was younger But but I but I think because was a boy and a girl it was different if it was the same sex I think there may have been a difference right right now What about you with your middle status because yours is different because it's from different households right but my middle status also Just from the dad's side is different households and it came upon after 24 25 years So I'm 24 or 25 years old finding out that there's other siblings and now there's a Collective hey, you're the middle kid perspective, but I was not raised with that middle kid perspective So I don't have that true middle kid.

It's in the discussions now and in some of the the laugh and come rotary like all you just a little kid You know that's what a thing however, that's not the identity that I grew up with right right So let me ask y'all this because normally I give people ideas on how they should celebrate Whatever day it is and so national siblings day they got a couple of days prepare for it Saturday What kind of things do you think should you do just like reach out and call if they're at a distance and gifts, you know Well, so the gift part with it coming as soon as it is it almost had to be something virtual like a gift card to their favorite restaurant or shop or something like that But I think just even a call maybe a FaceTime a group me or not trying to advertise for any company But some sort of social media get together to just kind of see each other. That might be a good thing to do Yeah, what do you think? Yeah, is it worth celebrating? Well, I mean You couldn't I mean acknowledge it.

I mean because really should get together all the time, you know being contacts All right, well, I mean we have ours on a schedule. We don't schedule It doesn't happen And don't be late because somebody don't get up the call make all no names, but you heard it from me Okay, well, honestly, I feel like it should be more than just the posting of sibling pictures on Facebook and stuff like that There should be more to it because I think that with social media and everything we tend to feel like we are a part of people's lives More because we can see pictures of what they're doing But we're not actually interacting with them and having conversations with them and connecting And I think this is an opportunity for us all to get together with our siblings to connect Absolutely, I agree. I think that's a good idea. Cool challenging.

It's difficult, but it's worth it Well, that's the challenge for everybody then this weekend. It's the challenge. Okay. All right, let's accept it That's what I'm talking about Well, that was today's episode of Tweed Trends I hope you enjoyed it and I hope you are up for the challenge to go and reach out to your siblings And if it's just a regular conversation if you want to reminisce with them Or maybe you got some bad blood between your siblings and you kind of want to you know clear things up clear the air come to have a Kumbaya moment and come to an understanding that sure we may not see everything I didn't get to pick you as a sibling, but guess what?

We are here. We are healthy We are whole we can be happy we don't have to agree with everything that you do or say or understand it even But what we can do is determine in our minds and in our hearts that no matter what we're not gonna let that bond be broken for some frivolous Stupid's whatever it is that has found its way and wedged itself in between you all so that's my Request for you accept the challenge and do it today You don't have to wait until Saturday for national siblings day You can do it today if you have the time to do it today Don't put it off for tomorrow what you can do today And so while you're in a process of figuring out when you're gonna make that call how you're gonna make that call or maybe you need a Catalyst to get the conversation going send them the link to Tweed Trends and then that'll help you get this call started It'll help you get the conversation going maybe they have a view about Alfred Adler's theory that's different from what Alfred Adler is saying and that's great That starts the conversation y'all that's all I'm asking all right So in the meanwhile, you know send them the link to the podcast you go and give me some feedback That's what I love that's what I want. That's what I need y'all. That's what I need okay, and on top of that Have a great weekend have an awesome national siblings day, and I'll see you back here again on Tuesday
