Native Youth Program 2017

from CiTR -- Unceded Airwaves · host CiTR & Discorder Magazine

This is a special broadcast from the 2017 Native Youth Program! Run by the Museum of Anthropology, the Native Youth Program gives six urban Aboriginal high school students the opportunity to explore their culture and identity among peers, and develop important knowledge, skills and confidence for future creative and academic endeavors. In addition to meeting with Indigenous leaders, building professionalism skills and leading tours of the MOA's feature exhibit, this year's NYP group worked with CiTR radio mentors, Alex and Pascale, to learn radio production, interviewing and audio editing skills. Each of the six talented NYP teenagers created a 3-5 minute audio story, reflecting on their own relationship with their Indigenous identity. You'll hear spoken word poetry, narrative, interviews, and soundscape stories in this collection of audio pieces. After each story ends, keep listening to hear a short interview with its creator. Enjoy and visit moa.ubc.ca/nyp for more information!
