Naughty Nicole: May the 4th Be With You
from ????? ?PODCASTLIFE
On Today’s episode of The World In My Eyes we are taking a diversion into one of my favorite things to do… a Holiday episode. I know you smarty pants out there are going, there’s not holiday… but you’re wrong… very, very, very wrong. Even if you're not a huge Star Wars fan, chances are you've been on the Internet so you know that this seemingly insignificant, humdrum Friday is in fact May the Fourth, a.k.a. Star Wars Day, a.k.a. the nerdiest holiday of the springtime calendar. It's a day where we fully embrace tired galaxy puns we've been throwing at each other for years now, and ditch the standard "hey, how’s it going?" greeting in favor of grander proclamations of "May the Fourth be with you!!" But, have you every even asked… What does "May the Fourth be with you" mean, even? Sure, it's an obvious play on one of the most famous movie lines of all time, but how did this geek-tastic occasion originate? How are we supposed to celebrate? Why are we supposed to celebrate? Because suddenly becoming culturally irrelevant is my single greatest fear in this world, I decided to bring all you other geektastic peoples into the fold of this lauded and, depending on how many cosplayers you know, sacred day. Now the French have accused Hollywood — and the United States by extension — of culture imperialism from time to time but let’s face it. You just can’t keep good ‘ol American pop culture in the armoire anymore. It does have a tendency of going global and that’s especially true when it comes to the Star Wars universe and the imagination and excitement it continues to inspire for millions — if not billions — around this blue planet we all call home. For that we say, “May the 4th Be With You.”
