NEJM January 28, 2026: A Phase 2 Trial of Tobevibart plus Elebsiran in Hepatitis D

This research study evaluates the effectiveness of two experimental drugs, tobevibart and elebsiran, in treating chronic hepatitis D, a serious viral infection. By testing these medications both as a combined therapy and as a single treatment, scientists aimed to see if they could successfully suppress viral levels and restore liver health markers. The results indicate that while both approaches helped patients, the dual-drug regimen was particularly powerful at making the virus undetectable and significantly lowering the surface antigens associated with the disease. Ultimately, the trial demonstrates a promising clinical pathway for managing a difficult condition with manageable side effects.
