This study investigates whether a shortened treatment window can effectively combat drug-resistant tuberculosis by comparing a novel six-month regimen against the traditional nine-month standard of care. By utilizing a strategic combination of medications like bedaquiline and delamanid, researchers discovered that the abbreviated course achieved nearly identical recovery rates to the longer alternative. Importantly, the trial demonstrated that the faster approach did not increase the frequency of severe medical complications, proving it is a safe and noninferior option for patients.
