Nelson Lee: Overcoming anxiety and OCD and helping others improve mental health through intentional living

from Beautiful Shifts · host Lindsay & Shantil

Today Nelson joins us to share about how he overcame a decade-long struggle with anxiety and OCD by learning to embrace uncertainty and live a life centered on values rather than fear. Nelson is passionate about all he has learned and has dedicated himself to helping others heal through obtaining a Clinical Mental Health Counseling degree, which he completes this fall.    In our conversation today we discuss thought patterns, the stories we tell ourselves, the role of shame, how our brains and nervous systems are involved, and how anxiety and OCD can show up in relationships. We also discuss solutions such as mindfulness and creating a healthy relationship with ourselves.   Nelson has a way of explaining concepts in a logical way that is enlightening and engaging. We really enjoyed this conversation and learned a lot, and think Nelson would be an amazing therapist and coach! Thanks so much to Nelson for taking the time to be on our podcast and for sharing his story and insights with us!    Find Nelson on Instagram @buildingbrainwaves where he gives tips on improving mental health and OCD/anxiety recovery. You can contact him there about his mental health coaching and therapy services/practices.    Thanks for listening!

Wherever Life Takes Us whereverlifetakesuss Join three best friend as they explore this beautiful world! Half Ties kwamenabrace Half-ties is a conversation series on the funny, beautiful and sometimes challenging moments that interracial couples experience being with somebody who’s culturally different from them.Hosted by creative couple Olivia & Kwamena, we listen to stories about growing up with racism and prejudice; falling in love and meeting the in-laws; navigating difficult conversations within the family and in society, and how these couples make their relationship work and what they actively choose to pass down to the next generation. C.S. Lewis's The Last Battle St. Philip's Church: Charleston, SC Come join us on Wednesday nights as we explore the riches of C.S. Lewis’s marvelous book The Last Battle, which is the last of The Chronicles of Narnia. It is a remarkable book on multiple levels and was awarded the Carnegie Medal back in the 1950s when it was first published. The Last Battle has some themes in common with The Great Divorce and That Hideous Strength that will make it an excellent follow-up to those two books, and like them, it has some remarkable resonance with things going on in today’s culture. It is a book that is both theologically rich and poignantly beautiful in its writing, and it can help equip us to live boldly for Christ in a culture that has lost its way. (Although this book is the last of The Chronicles of Narnia, it can stand on its own and it is not necessary to have read the other books for this class.)
