Nepal Floods and the Search for Missing Pilgrims | Johannesburg News

A catastrophic flash flood in Nepal’s Bhote Koshi River region has claimed over 1,300 lives and left hundreds missing, including South African pilgrims near Gyirong. Amid criticism of the Isha Africa Foundation’s response and Sadhguru’s absence on the ground, the foundation insists its focus has been unwavering: providing 24/7 support to families of the 80 missing, with dedicated volunteers, a hotline, and direct coordination with rescue teams and embassies. Sadhguru has remained engaged through solidarity events, rituals for the deceased, and appeals to Chinese authorities for search access. Meanwhile, grieving families, like one mother determined to reach Tibet for her missing daughter, continue their desperate search — underscoring the human toll behind the headlines.
