Yes so this week we thought it would take it easy to do a nice chilled episode because we've had a few intense ones literally, I've seen the episode on Friday was, and I still haven't watched the new special episode because of me, I should tell you what I'm talking about. If I watch it? My mum rang me yesterday to tell me not to watch it because when she's all the title of it she went, this is not for you. Actually, yeah, no.
Yeah, no. Yeah, no. If my mum goes out of her way to ring me to tell me not to do something, I'm like, okay, I'm listening. She said she just went, Sam, it's not for you.
She went really, it's not. Just trust me, it's not nothing to do with the story. You're not missing anything. Just please don't watch it.
Don't watch the first bit because it's two hours long. So with this kind of like two episodes, don't watch the first bit. Watch the second one because the second one is really good. The second one's got quite a few guest stars in it.
It's got um, tenant, tenant, tenant, tenant, tenant. Oh, they're doing voices. Yeah, they're doing the voices of all the cats. In the first, yeah, so that's in the first, in the second bit, Arthur Darville from Doctor Who, and oh my god Arthur.
Yeah, he's in it. Jackaby, Derek, Jackaby. He was in Doctor O'Krak, which name he's in it. It's really good to see.
I don't know what you're saying. I'm going to try and improve it. I'm going to try and make it more and more creepier and icky as we go along. I'm fine.
I know we make sure we just did this a few days ago, but I did watch something quite interesting over the weekend that it was, like I said, because it wasn't a film, wasn't they, because I've got to stay away from everything new until Nick gets back because I get told off watching, but I did watch a documentary about an American football player who got catfished. So he thought he had his girlfriend on the gun and the catfished to all them. He died. So she dedicated these final season thing, college football to her death.
And it was all hooks and he didn't know and the media went crazy about which it was quite interesting. This is the one on Netflix. It's the girlfriend that didn't exist or something. That's the one, yes.
That's the one. But the media totally spun it in a way that I shouldn't like the city that he had when they don't, he was just trying to hide his sexuality that was really gay. And they really went to the wall to get this guy just because he'd been catfished and it was horrible. Oh my gosh, that sounds like one watch.
But Netflix are doing some great documentaries at the moment. So I really have to come out later. And when I'm missing them all, I'm not watching them for some reason. Because that's why, because I am now totally obsessed with Call of Midwife.
Yeah. Get out. Yeah. It's gone from town to now to be to peak blinders to now Call of Midwife.
I'm moving up in times. Sam's having a bit of life crisis early. So I am obsessed with Call of Midwife at the moment. I absolutely love it.
I would love to live in that time, but obviously not have the woman's role. I quite like mine right now. I like that I can vote. Yeah.

Very well. So the subject is going to be interesting because some say absolutely jack shit of animal movies. No question is like animals. More to do with that she gets upset when animals are on screen.
And incredibly sensitive soil. If nobody has a notice or listens to the podcast in the past and watch me cry relentlessly. I can't do animals in movies. Animated animals I'm fine with.
Kind of even though two movies of my youth absolutely broke my soul and probably is the reason why I can't do it. I just can't do animals in movies. So it's a good starting point there. So we'll get out the way and then so Sam watch your favorite animal.
Cats and dogs. I fucking love that film. It's the only one that I'll ever watch. Fuckin love it.
It's hilarious. If anyone's seen it, they'll find well that movie is golden and it has beagling. That's why I love it. And doesn't the cat look like one of your best friends cats?
Yep. Looks like Portia and actually Portia. Persian Chinchilla. Yes.
Caroline has two Persian Chinchillas. Portia and Romeo and Portia is exactly like that cat in that movie. She's very misunderstood. She is everyone.
Caroline will fucking kill me for seeing this. Isn't this like old sea? Is it old sea? Do I also actually live animals in this movie?
Oh, I don't know. It's been such a long time since I've seen it. Not live animals, but they're mostly geotrope like they were talking. I think so because it's told me Maguire isn't it?

It's the only one that I can fucking tolerate for some reason. Because I think I know that not animal gets hurt. Definitely. But I think that's a good point though.
Because I think there's a big divide when it comes to animals in movies, especially with the two men, like dogs and cats. Dogs are always seen as the friendly or the nice ones on SNORA. But the cats always have to be evil or sly or nasty. Even when you go back to the aristocrats, there was like citizen-made cats and evil.
But I was thinking cats get a raw deal, especially when you think about the major cat players. I think it was the one I mentioned is Pet Seminary. Like the remake and the world, which I didn't mind the remake as well. But the cats now was probably sinister.
When it goes over by the big truck, it makes you sad. And it goes and gets buried dead. What's it said? Dead or something like that?
Sometimes death is better. Yes. That's my best term in Monster impression. I was having one saying that as well.
But yeah, I actually really enjoyed the new one as well. I know it didn't really change or break away. It was pretty much the same story. But John Lithor, I example for John Lithor.
Oh, absolutely. But that movie as well, like as I said, when he showed cats, it always caters or brings a lot of evil or signs of evil as well. Well, we are cat parents, me and Paul. And we, I have two, Paul has two.
My two are the complete bipolar opposites of each other. Because one of them is the most sweet little boy you've ever made in your life. He is actually the sister of one of Paul's cats. And he is just the best.
He is a scratch-hist or anything like that. He is such a sweet-natured little boy. And then you've got Beatrice. Beatrice is part of me, part of me is a black and white cat all over.
And for all the cat that has lived in a house all of her life, all of her life, she has never been outside. She is feral as fuck. They want to live in with you. She absolutely hates me.
She loves her dad though, but she's one of those cats who has to smell you. Before she knows who you are, she's all about the smell. Whereas Baxter will love and bring to anyone Beatrice. He wouldn't even know she lived in your shins and hives when someone comes in.
She hates Carolyn at all. So what about you Charlotte? What's your favourite animal in a movie? Animal movie or animal in a movie?
I don't know. I'm a dog person, so it's probably going to be a dog. I just tell you how. It's not going to be a Taser.
It's not going to be a Taser. It's the only animal in a creature. Something. I don't know what I think I tend to lean towards the infictional animals more as well, because I absolutely adore toothless from her, when you're driving.
Because he reminds us of my mum and dad's old dog. But yeah, my dog is probably a dog or the trash cat. It's not even the mall. It's not really good.
No. We're playing more signs then. I can't give an answer to the song. Poppy's mind was like, because I think this film got a bit of a rough tale.
It is a brilliant film. Well, it came out with a time as another dog film, but it kind of didn't get the same fanfare, or it talked out in the same way. Because everyone loves Tanya and her, and I love Tanya and her, because Tom Hanks is amazing. Not film that dog is the cutest thing ever.
But I loved K9, but it was a Jim Belushi. And Jerry Lin, it's John. John Belushi was the one that died, wasn't it? Jim?
Because he's brilliant. I knew I just got to remember which one is me. I think it was Jim. I think it was Jim.
But the whole thing, I don't know, it was with a being a German Shepherd as well, because I grew up with a German Shepherd. I just loved the whole attitude of Jerry Lin. It was a very good police dog, but he was disobeying this. It was almost like a lethal weapon, but in dog and human version.
Oh! That's a really good description, actually. So, Jerry Lin, the dog was basically the Riggs character. It was just getting pissed off.
Every time he got locked in the door, he locked in the race car. He would come back and he would have chewed everything up, just to piss him off. He would pull out the car radio and stuff like that. And it was just hilarity.
And again, Sam probably won't be able to watch it at the end, because he gets shot. And the dog actually has a sad moments. But as a buddy cop movie, because I think I saw this on ITV or Channel 4, like sometime when I was watching, like Saturday Night, Saturday morning or Sunday afternoon films. But it was just absolutely brilliant.
And I think, like I said, Turnout and Hooch is a top film. And again, up there with one of the greatest things. But I think K9 kind of just gets left on the way aside, because it came out about the same time. So everyone kind of goes to Turnout Hooch when K9, I'll be honest, is the better film.
And my eyes, that is. I don't like either of them. You're not going to say that about every film. Obviously, it's not a case of not liking it.
It's just, I'm too sensitive. It gets to us and it sticks with us and it stays with us. And I don't like it. I've actually turned horror movies off.
Literally turned them off. One of them was From Hell. The minute that K9 came on, sorry, I said to Anne's Paws, get on the Wikipedia and find out what happens to that cat. And he just didn't even bother saying anything.
He just turned it off and went, what do you want to watch next? That's the thing about, I think we'll watch the podcast. I think we'll watch what we've told her previously. We are very much horror fans.
We love horror movies. And I probably say a lot about us as people, that we couldn't go fuck when some like a human, a child or like a person, like it's like horrible things happen. As soon as you mention an animal, or something that can't defend themselves, like a little dog or cat, like I was with you and I watched From Hell. It's probably one of the first films I flipped.
I was already enjoying the movie. Yeah, CB. It was quite scary. It was some good effects.
But as soon as she made that decision, what she did to kill like in, I wanted that bitch to die. I actually screamed, I was saying, you're going to die, bitch. Die now, bitch. That was actually my response to her.
I've seen the end scene when she goes to hell and I thought you're not going to deserve it. Kick down there. And yeah, I couldn't even get to that point. I couldn't watch the rest of it.
I didn't, the minute she got the cat, I was like, yeah, but slash a genre is my favourite genre. And I'm fine with the fact that people are getting slashed up there for like an instant. You put a cat in the mix and it's all over. But Beth in the chat's just pointed out one of the things that I didn't mention about K9 that obviously loved.
They're hilarity like Joey Lin pretends to be dead at one point. So he's the dog's clean dead and like James, James, Lucy has some kind of, is basically standing over on the crying and like really sad. And then the dog just looked at us like, just like almost laughing at him typing. It was like that type of chemistry and like ability to name the dog to act.
So it was a very good dog in that situation. But it comes back to the thing as well. I know when we talk about animals in movies, we always go to like dogs or cats, like as regular, but when you think about like all the different animals that we've had in movies, I think Charlotte did mention like a good aspect is in fantasy. And when we talked about ET before, it's like what was actually class as an actual animal in movie?
Would you class like Disney cartoons or like say, a fictional animal? Like say, would they still class in the same regard? Or do you, like, is it too far to class on as animals? I class the fantasy based films as animal movies, because they are beasts.
They are animals, they're just magical ones. So there are- And there's something wrong with that? Yeah, there are some like fictional animal ones that I guess are kind of as animals. Because it depends on your definition of animal, because arguably there are some serial coloring human films that could be counted as animal movies.
Very much so. Oh, that's good. Yeah, I like that. I can't watch live action stuff, but I have no problem with like Disney stuff.
Like Robin Hood, for the brilliant film. Brilliant film. But- Actually, Robin Hood of the Mall. Absolutely.
Is that one fantasy to Fox? Still do. The Dumbledore, for my heart. Absolutely.
I watched the live one in the cinema of Caroline, and I was like, that's the last time I ever watched number. I can't have my heart broken by an elephant again. Land before time is the one that- Oh, crushes. Crushes.
Probably the reason why I don't do animal films is because of that film. Small films, and mother. But someone just asked Charlotte a little question in the chat as well, I've noticed it. So what is your favorite bass in the fantasy bass?
With just with your mention of their childhood? Oh, um, I think probably Niffler. Yeah, yeah. But the CB Nifflers.
But Niffler reminds me of Alice, the other dog that I was with my mum, my mum and dad. Just the tikiness of it. But I think visually, the ochami, the big blue sneaky thing. I think visually that was beautiful.
I love that you can see them words. I would have just described them. Um, yeah, probably them too. And oh, um, picket, little stick.
Oh, yeah. That's in his pockets. They are not like a mixture of adorable to make. So that's, I think the mistake that the second movie made in the franchise, they moved away from the fantastic basses as much.
And I think they realised it when they went back in the third, they told us the fix, the mistakes that they had, but they did show elements of the basses, which the first one did so well. The old name of the third one was Heartbreak. And it was really Heartbreak in that one. I really must have been paying attention.
I actually felt the sleep during it. So, I'm surprised. But I am the worst movie going on. And also now the worst person on a pop culture podcast.
You're making work, you're making it worse. Must do. Um, again, I can all, I'm supposed to be going to be jumping all about, but because he's the same things that I do, like, put in the interest. I'm gonna put the bear a little bit.
So, because you said about breaking your heart and stuff and actually a lot of animal films did break your heart. Watch our earliest memory of the film breaking your heart with an animal. So, I'll go with you on the first. Just some other shit.
I don't know whether it was the first one. The first one was obviously A.T. But I'm not telling that story again. We'll tell you the episode of which one it's on.

She is. So, I think the first one that sticks out for me was, I don't even know if anybody's seen it. It was a really small, small sort of Disney film when Disney would have been sort of the live action animal films. And it's called Whispers and Elephant Story.
Oh, right. It's on Disney Plus, but I wouldn't recommend showing it to children because it broke me and my sister. It was New Year's Eve in my mum and dad, like, right, we'll have a treat, we'll have a film that you can stay up with and then pick this nice animal. Your parents really know how to get you to one day.
And by the end of it, my sister was hysterical because it's basically the story of this baby elephant and it's journey through, it's on a journey somewhere, the hood on a journey somewhere and it's sort of, it's journey through that. And it's horrible again. It's hard because it's a fictional story, but it's not because it's almost like a documentary the way it's filmed. But the animal talks with a kid friendly.
It's a bit like March of Penguins, but Disney Fide, if that makes sense? Yeah. It is hard, really. It sounds like it.
It really is. Yes, it's not one stick. It doesn't know how to touch them heartstrings. Sam, what about you?
Being dragged out of the cinema in Sunderland by me, because I was hysterical at Old Dog's Court heaven. Like literally hysterical to where she didn't drag us. Like she kindly gets smotting me out and talking to Burger King and trying to make it all better when I was just an absolute mess. And yeah, I'll talk to him about it.
I should be like, had an absolute melt down in the middle of the cinema. What a film that was as well. You always expect it to turn and go like one way, but it never did. No, it didn't.
It didn't. And again, it was one of my movies that came out at the time. It was before like DreamWorks and stuff like that. Yeah.
It was like, it was kind of like independent cartoons. Like the Disney, we thought the word Disney films about the ones. It was like this in American Teal. I think kind of stage about like Disney, but I would not have stage after a while.

It was like along the lines with like, some Molina and Stanis Magigarden and Finkeli and stuff like that. Oh gosh. They're really laughing at all. They're funny ones.

It is a dramatic film. It's like, yeah, it's hard for even. It's the rock monster when you can't think there's nothing to eat. That was really sad to go.

It had me in kinks was when the bats came out of the fireplace for the Goonies. Yes. When Trump was about to get his hands flattered and he said the thing was get pure eyes and all the fatalities are fricking out. He says, go to watch your hair and all the bats flying all over this.
So the bats were the heroes in the Goonies. See if it's Trunks hands. Remember that, guys. Oh my God.

The certain films I've been trying get some to watch. I think it probably could get a watch at home at band. Oh, I love War Horse. Does anything bad happen?

Yes. Because it had Sally. Well, that's Sally feeling foy some show of it. Because it was a remake of the Old Disney film at the incredible journey.
Michael Cheer Fox doing the voice of one of the other dogs. And I can't remember if he'd done the voice of Shadow or the old dog. It was like an old Labrador. And they just basically decided that they're going to travel back to the house to get back to the young boy.
And it's just as I said, as the original Disney film, it's an incredible journey where they go travel and look after each other and they get attacked by a porcupine and the pylacolite on the face and stuff. Chase. Yeah. Chase is the other younger dog is me.
I just remember him going out the window and put his head out and like, he's eighties because he has floppy ears and he's gone, that dog. Michael Cheer Fox doing the voice. But no, no, animals died. They do hint at it towards the end, like one of the dog's eyes.
But he doesn't, he just comes with him. And I don't know how to go under limp. The mike just, you never know. But he's a slip so what a film.

If someone actually like when we do our reviews and someone actually picks like a dog like animal movie and I've got to watch it because I've got to sit and talk about it. I don't watch the film about it in years, but I absolutely adore it. It's just like the other big mike as a Fox fan. So anything that he was in, I just wanted more of.
And like him doing the voice was just pure entertainment and like Sully Fayette was great and as well. But it was, I thought, like I said, it's a wholesome film. Yeah. It's just, it's just.
As long as I want to die, I feel good at the end. Definitely. Your probably scry with happy tears. Crying every emotion going, Paul.

Though, if you think about it, like with going back to Turner and Hoch, I can't say that. I'm quite sure he's not. Trying to go. Well, the Tom Hanks movie thing might have been with an animal car.
I can't think of it now. But yes, but going back even further as well, I think animals in horror films has been quite a stable, like say with a lot of different aspects as well. Like going back from the original, I know you said you've got a good King Kong story. Yeah.
As they're in the OJ Big Monkey type thing. I love the making of the like a very, very old King Kong. And he has the stop motion and the robot hand and everything. And when you see all the like the making of stuff and you see, like people sitting in the hand out just be breath-tating the watch and say, but I'll let you tell you Monkey story.

In Kong. Wrong animal. It's King Kong, but she loves the original. And she made us watch the Peter Jackson one because she was like just waxing her about how much she loves this fucking monkey.
And she made us watch it, but she was drinking it at the same time, a brownie in my now and I was drinking it. So I was absolutely stonk off of this and I actually watched it. She on the other hand was living her fantasy and getting herself all worked up that we weren't getting upset that the monkey got hurt. Oh, Mrs.
Weatherall getting upset. She was doing it to any of that. She was, Paul, you do realise you still remember it? It was through up on our roof.
Give me further, that was 20 years ago. She still remembers. That's her bedroom now. So what you're saying is that I've been in your mum's bedroom?

It was over the fact that we didn't have a heart because we weren't getting upset as to what was happening at King Kong. And she actually stormed upstairs in a hoof. She went, you can't no heart. She's got no soul.
They just walked out the door and dramatic fashion and left us. I was laughing at what we just watched on the telly and what we just witnessed in real life. I did like the Peter Jackson version, but it's one in one's where I always prefer the orgy, the classic just because it brings about the memories I've seen it for the first time and it reminds me of the films like Clash of the Titans, Sinbad, Eye of the Tiger and stuff like that. I was like, I have the Cyclops.
And one of the films where the stop motion was made. But with the horror type thing, a lot of, like as I said, animals are based for use in the way that throughout the years, like I said, we had a discussion before we came online about werewolves. I was like, you're saying that's not a well. It is an animal.
It's a part dog. Heart Wolf, a human, but I say that my fondest memory as well was when I was watching American Werewolf in London and seeing the effects and actually being blown away of how that was made. I'm wondering how it was made at the time as well, because this was before CGI. And I was like, shit, I've actually got one.
I was like, shit, I've actually got an actual werewolf person on set to play in this. Is it safe for the people? Oh, you're concerned. Let's see.
But I think horror uses animals so well, even from either the comedy value when it comes to gremlins and like, gives more and like, an axial gremlins when the morph in there. And even from like the not offside the kudos and critters and stuff. Yes. We'll get all different types of beasts and animals, but when they go like a little bit realistic and real, it gets a little bit more scary.
Yes. Like, cool, cool. Like, remember watching kuju as a kid and being absolutely terrified and wouldn't go near like a same banana again for a long time. I will never watch kuju for all the reasons.
So, but I have watched the making of kuju and there was several kujuas. And when you sneak that kuju jumping on the car and it's like supposedly aggressive, it's actually chasing the toy. There's somebody in the car squeezing the toy and the dog's tail is wagon furiously because it wants his toy. And it kind of like took, like took so much illusion away from the film.
I was like, I generally think I could watch that now because I know that dog is super duper happy while he's trying to attack those people. But do you know how they got into snarl? Like, do they think snarl is fierce? No.
Pain about him and then he comes. Oh, it happens to me and also yeah. Pain about the comes of the dogs. Thanks, I was going to get the thing.
Oh my God, that's just made of so much. I think I could watch kuju now for that reason. We're going back to American Wellness in London. I only, like I've known other film viewers, I think somebody did ask for the one to know what the story was of you throwing up on the roof and it was my 18th birthday.
And we actually watched American Wellness in Paris. I don't know if you remember that night very well. Was the first time I drank whiskey? No.
So, we actually watched that film, but I hadn't seen American Wellness in London and I only watched it a few weeks ago. And that was absolutely breathtaking watching the transformation from man to wellness. And so I remember in the, I don't know if you did this one, you're in Florida, the Universal Monsters talk. And it showed you how they did it in there.
And I always remember that when I was watching it, I was like, and you had seen that first and then watched the movie. And it was just brilliant to watch side by side. Is it Rick Baker? Because this is the makeup art.
Oh, I watched it. Absolute genius that man is. And just the techniques that he used was fantastic. I think as well, if we talk about werewolves, it's one of them, like, there's a genre of horror film that they try and do.
And it doesn't always pee off well. Like there's a lot of horror films that try and do the werewolves. There's three big ones I remember that stand out as being a top, like, not to stop to hear werewolves, but top to hear of them. Merrick my wolf in London.
Ginger snaps. And dog soldiers. The, um, the weft of engine just not just awful. I've not seen ginger snaps, but a person who I work with, it's their brother who's the makeup artist and ginger snaps.
I mean, don't worry. We're not friends. But yeah, her brother is, he was trained by a judge, you know, he was, he was part of the old school of horror makeup. So he kind of started on his own.
And, you know, it was like word of mouth, like a friend of a friend. And he got then trained by George Romero. And ginger snaps is like probably the biggest title he ever did. And he's from the North East England.
No, definitely. I, um, I just remember ginger snaps because they've never seen it from, like, a female perspective. Because it's always being like men, hunting, female. And that was always like the first book having the female as a predator.
Um, and after the last night was in it, she's been in lots of horror movies or horror things since she was in American, American Mary, late around and stuff. Yeah. And this does, and it's been a natural. Yeah.
Makes it done plus different. That's a good thing now. I'm going to back to the camera. Yeah.
That's a good thing. Everything's, everyone's all party supernatural. Just anyone in case anyone doesn't watch ding dyes. 60 degrees of racial and the goonies.
Definitely the both do several times. All the time. Who's Jay? But, um, yes.
Except, but I would fail to miss if I didn't mention dog soldiers. Dog soldiers came and got it went next night. Like fair enough. I've seen that one.
It's basically like the British Army versus, um, I have. Like, it's all like twists and like people who you could say the twists coming. It was Neil Marshall, but I think most of the app is going to be at Love and Horror. And when we're down there, I think most of the cast's going to be there.
That's right, Charlotte. Most of the cast's going to be there. And then one of cast fair films. It is, yeah.
