So we're now live. Hi everyone and welcome to episode 101, the Nerdy Pothouse, it's a Nerdy Pothouse, what's it by? I know the Nerdy Pothouse Sam. And I'm the other horse Paul, and yes, I know this is quite a sudden and extra episode after the 100th episode, but we thought we'd start off with a nice one.
So that me and Sam wanted to talk about it for a while, and just to bring it back to a little bit, because Sunday was a lot, a lot of people, a lot of emotions. So we thought we'd bring it back to a little bit of a commentary back to the original duo. Yeah, what's the most full episode? Yes, and kick off the 101 episodes, the way we started the podcast, shall we say?
That's true, it is. Just me and me. Yes, there's some different voice, that's all, but not in there. The adventure with authentic Salva.
Thank you everyone who did tune in to the 100th episode on Sunday, or I've watched it back since, thank you, because it was so special. It was lovely sitting with everyone and seeing faces. Probably. Didn't get used to it's not going to happen again for a while.
I'd say 200, but now the way that we want to crank these episodes out will get that quick and normal. That's been the nightmare over the last month or so, because there's been so many things and so much content that we've wanted to discuss about, to actually talk about, especially when we started to find our groove with the podcast and how it's working, and even if I say how it looks as well. It's been a hard one to kind of limit ourselves in a way, if that makes sense? Yeah, because we really had to stick to a tight schedule, because we had to organize a day where everyone was free, and it was like, right, so that day is the 100th episode.
So we could only do... It has to be 100 episodes, it falls on this day, so we couldn't add extra ones in. We're close to 3K now, but that was it? Yeah, about a month ago.
I think it came out in September, but digitally it came out October, like the download. Yeah, and we couldn't even do that because we were so strict on where we needed to be to get to that 100th, and we have been itching to talk about it. Very much so. Just because I get you've watched the previous episodes of the podcast, or even if you watched the first episode where we saw basically the idea from Kevin Smith, we love Kevin Smith, big influencers and big, kind of, like, how's a special place in our heart, shall we say?
Yes, by us. Yes, that's what we've always the best way to describe it. That's why Sam's the more elegant one and then the dickhead one. So I'll be the first to see it.
But yes, this has been a long time coming where we want to talk about this movie because, let's be honest, I know Sam will disagree with me. Kevin's last year films haven't hit the mark from being polite. I can understand where it comes from, but personally, reboot, I loved it. I was just, I could tell what he was trying to do with it, and I was just on the journey.
I wasn't there for storyline. I wasn't there for particularly good, he's right, because Kevin's writing this always good. I'll argue with anyone to say that he can't write, but I can see it was a bit of a clusterfuck. Photography's the longest point, but writing is, that's actually what we say.
But yes, so I'll let Sam get a disclaimer out of the way before we start giving an opinion. And Lee, he's just mentioned in the chat that he's electronic-s a bit, and he wasn't even met at the end of the year. Oh my gosh, it started already. Yes, so he said...
Everything, everything that's listed today is episode is our opinions and our opinions alone. If you would like to discuss anything from today's episode, please come and join us in the BSB Group where we can have an old discussion. What we've warned have is anyone come for us and tell us our opinions are wrong. We can all agree to disagree and fund them, so let's give a fun.
Keep a kind and keep the toxic behaviour out of notism. Well said, well said. And she did it without any paperwork on Sunday as well, so it was all from her mind. I just annoyed off my heart now.
She was wearing pants on Sunday as well. I had no choice. Well she had a choice, it was just the right one. Yes, I was in a room with Grant.
So yes, I made good choices. And we didn't want to be flooded. So yeah. Well, before we get into the nitty gritty of this film, because we've not had a proper chance to get it, because we've had guests on where we just want to get into it, how are you doing?
I'm not bad, I'm not too bad. I'm not bad, I'm not too bad. If I reached it yet. I feel that every single day, every single second, the impending march to do.
Yes, I am. Well I am pretty good. Now that I officially won nearly up north, so yes, I am the Lord, Master and Savior of that name. So thank you guys, everyone who chipped in and made that a really special present.
I might not have shown it on the podcast. You really taken a bath. Do you know what though? Just a spoiler of the day.
It wasn't meant to happen that way. What was meant to happen was just before you said same bad times, same bad channel. We were all going to stop you and go, no. That's fine, it was going to be done.
So when they came out, I'm like, what? You can see my face change going. It's not now, but okay, yeah, yeah, we'll roll with this. So it's like a pretty good world type of early comment comments.
Yes, pretty much. Does anything you've been watching anything you've seen anything over the last, because I haven't done this for a couple of weeks now. Cabinet of curiosity was a bit of an up and down experience. Some episodes were absolutely brilliant and some were a little bit lackluster, but it was quite good.
I was pretty much where I expected from Dell Toro with the story talent and the colour of actors in, it was brilliant, well worth a watch on Netflix. I did go and see Black Panther, well, kind of forever. That was a long film, but it's a bit of a sense, Shang-Shi, the best Marvel film we've had since since after Indian, or after No Way Home. But yeah, I really enjoyed it.
A few little surprises, but didn't overwhelm you with the surprises. But it paid out pretty much from here to here. I wasn't anything complicated and was just... Did you just try and reinvent the wheel on it?
No, no, but it was just film about loss and sadness, which we could all relate to. So that was actually one of the things I've watched recently, other than that, being binge-watching Nightly and Afraid, which is basically like, I'm a celebrity book where people can actually die. Oh, God, right, okay. I haven't seen Black Panther and it is purely just getting to see Black Panther.
For the first time in my life, I'm actually busy. So I actually have a bit of a social life at the moment, so just trying to fit it in as a bit of a mess. And whatever. That's not just remembered what I'm watching.
Me and my husband started Frasier. Very good. It took long enough. It did, it did.
I've seen bits and pieces of it because my mom and sister are, and that are huge, huge fans of it. Like my mom actually said on Saturday, she could come on and do a podcast about Frasier. I said, you shouldn't make them kind of requests. I'm sorry, come on.
They're sitting back in the chair, Sami's mom. I'll take you through it. Yeah, we're just started running out of stages on the best series. And I thought, I mean, for the first time, that's nice, which was just magical.
But we are loving it. Like, even from like the first, like in the first series, we are belly lapping. It's not something that is a gradual builder. We are, it's an all pan slapping.
Every time you see it, I'm listening. I'm like, oh, it just started to better happen. It's such a clever comedy as well. Like, I absolutely adore Frasier.
Like, it's got levels which more sitcoms don't have. And the dynamics between every single character is so well thought out and so well done. And it just gets sillier and sillier and, and Frasier gets more neurotic and he's ego. It gets out controller times, which is just brilliant to watch.
And there's like this overtentions and nobody's like pretentious in a good way. Like, it's not terrible. It also tells you grammar's visual expressions are honestly some of the best things I've ever seen. But David High-Pier says, probably the shining light throughout from start to finish.
His performance is in that. I don't know how he didn't get more recognition. It is just groundbreaking. Like every little thing he does, like it's classic comedy, like from a stand up on like slapstick to the point of when he's throwing jokes out there is just breath in and effortless as well.
Yeah, his physical comedy is someone who you would not expect it from is absolutely brilliant. Yeah, I do love Chee is I'm actually named after a character in Chee is so. And that's not a lie. But that's like it's just a continuation of the story as well.
That's how good Chee is was that you could get a spinoff from a character that was just a side character at the start. But I love the character episodes when like people from Chee is visit Frasier in Seattle and stuff, which is always in the theatre. That's what we were wondering what actually happened. It would be some characters from Chee.
I think like Diana would come into the woods. But Chee was such a big part of my whole night because there was certain programs that were on it. Chee is I'll be the same pet and so on and so on. And I never thought a million years it would be for Frasier to pray in who would be the one who got the spinoff.
And it actually worked. Yeah. All the characters in that. It would have never been on my top list.
I'm glad we got it as well because I don't think I know the thing about bringing it back as well, which scares me a little bit. But I'm also intrigued. I wouldn't mind saying where Frasier is now. I think we'll have a different fridge.
There'll be a more serious and sad of Frasier because Martin's not with us anymore. And he's not here as well. So it'd be interesting to see how he's dealing with that. So again, the morbid side of me is quite interested in that aspect.
It's always the same with me when you want to go and revisit all things and say how are these people dealing with this. So Frasier is what I'm watching now because we've watched all this money to death. And I'm a celeb. Not my sins.
I am watching. I'm a celeb. Jealous God for the win. Yes.
I can't think of you saying him, Tim Tindall. Yes, him. Because that guy is just as cool as a cucumber. Cool.
So are you ready to get down, Rich? Let the tears roll. Yes. I can't guarantee that I'm not going to cry at some point.
No, that's one of the things why I thought I would start the episode in black and white as well in just like a little bit of homage to the original clips. I can't remember now because I know it was making a month ago that I was saying that this one doesn't start in black and white. Like, like, so does it not? Because Clerks do is then the colour comes out when everything's on fire.
It's when he looks there. Yeah, he looks the black, then shear up. It's on fire and puts it in. It's when he puts it down.
I think it changes into colour. I'll say it along those lines. It's very clever how it changes to colour. Yeah, I've got back to colour.
So that's fine. Oh. So yes, this movie, because as I said before, before we did the disclaimer, I was terrified of this movie coming out just because I adore Clerks and Clerks too. And I didn't know how they would tell the story or where they would go with this story.
But I thought as an ending, because it is a definite ending to the Clerks story, it couldn't have been pierced or wrought more perfect. He's writing in this in this film is something you can tell he's taken his time with. He's been very clever about it. And I said in because I did a little mini post on Instagram, the love and devotion to these people was just pouring through that script.
He honestly, if anything, the writing is some of the best he's ever done. And I like to switch up as well on this as well, because Clerks one and two are very much done here's story. Yeah. So this one, it is still done here is like, well, it's done is final act.
If we're going to put it that way, there's a third act, but the way it's Randall's story at the same time. So it kind of flips on you. Anything that's going on with everything that's going on and how it plays out. But I didn't expect to be hit as hard as I was with this movie.
No, no, no. Let's just see it right now. If you've not seen this film, why are you watching? Why are you listening?
Because we're going to spoil the shit out of it. I think I cried at quite two points in this movie. Absolutely massively. Then then, then, then, I think I text you straight afterwards.
And then you had to watch it within an hour after me saying it. And I was a photograph of your fierce just a mess. Absolute. I was distraught.
You think I just lost a family member the way I went on. I went in the bedroom to go and put a room to go and tell them about the film. I'm just, I could not get anything out. And then I had to pull myself together because we were doing the podcast at op seven.
And at that point, I was still an emotional wreck. But yeah, I cried twice, probably twice. Probably at the same point as well. But because with reboot, it was basically retelling the same story, but it's on different way.
With this, it was pretty much basically telling the Kevin Smith story. If that makes sense. It was basically different points of his life. Kevin Smith, making the movie Bill Clerks was about him working as Clerks.
So that one hand and like, it kind of got his life flip around. If that makes sense with it. So with reboot and everything else that he's done, it's just over the storm, a mind of Kevin Smith, especially Tusk. But when it comes to Clerks, it's, it's his life.
He did a film based upon an experience that he had. He felt that the experience he had as a clerk with Brian Johnson was good enough to put it with script and create his characters. And it's all, it's so personal to him. That's why you're warm.
Yes. And you could actually feel it through there as well. And like, we all get like that and get like certain feelings. Like, I'm especially doing this project that we've been doing now.
It's kind of like, what have I been doing for the life before me? Like, why have I been sitting around and not doing this? And not seeing any level of Kevin Smith or anything like that. But hell, Randall must have felt having that heart attack that kind of jolted them into like existence and things.
Right. I've talked about movies for so long. Why don't I make a movie? And that was, I didn't have that heart.
I was kind of like, the realising. We had a pandemic that will, and that's such a lovely way of putting it actually will into existence. Like, because you do get to a certain point where like, before we did the podcast, what we really doing for work coming home, you know, it was a repeat. And now we've got, like, we've got this going on and we've got friends out of it where we can arrange to do that.
You know what I mean? And it's like that it really did will as an integral existence. So I think that's why this like movie hit home as much as I did. I can look back at clerks like from the start and make it know what time of life I was doing when I first watched that movie.
Watch more rats and reminds us of being like a teenager, well not a teenager. Like a 1920s, 100 with ourselves like yourself. That's true. They would shoot at stuff.
And then like say when clerks took him out, again, I didn't relate to clerks. No, I mean, it was more just like out of laugh fest. I was like stupid, like we're not just characters like liars stuff just from the blooming head off and like pillow pants. Like, and like the argument about Star Wars and Lord of the Rings and having them elements brought in just.
Can you kill me? Can you kill me on the studs? I'm like, I don't want to see a dog. I'm sure like that's solidified like kind of the ending to me where I was at all.
There's no where emotionally different. It's funny for them, but it's not emotionally. It's an emotional attachment. Like clerks, I don't feel an emotional attachment to it.
I can understand. I can understand the relevance at the time. Like this was groundbreaking movie making for the fact that it was done under just small budget. The characters in it are like easy to get on board with.
And I can understand that clerks too. It was just funny. It was just Kevin Smith, haha funny film. Not being really emotionally grounded to it, but then clerks three fucking flip the switch, change the script and make me fucking cry.
It shouldn't be fucking cry. It didn't just make you cry. It makes you think like in yourself as well. Yeah.
Because they didn't think what are we doing? Why are we doing this? How can we make things better? And are you doing things that's affecting the relationships you've got as well?
Because that's where Randall goes on this journey where he gets so self-obsessed and about which kind of eerienates everyone that he loves and kind of loves him. And even though every experience you get around, he's a dick, he's a little dick and we've all got friends like that. I'm probably like Randall to you guys. I know one thing about Evan is he is very loyal to the people that we work with.
And he'll always like see a trying aspect where it will bring certain things. Even the funniest thing in the film is when the auditioning people call the cast and they've got like Affleck in there and Affleck was just fucking amazing. So Michelle Geller, the guy who plays Superboy and Supergirl. And the Supergirl was in there.
And then different aspects were just absolutely hilarious and on point for the humour that was. Because this was a comedy but it was a very very dark comedy. And the only thing about the liars from the second one is his return and bring it to the way you weren't expecting. From the first one being such a religious sell-it and like if you use the term Godfather are extremely healthy.
To the point where he thinks he's busy first, heck Mr. Rand, in a having a heart attack. And then he creates the set and the set because God wasn't helping. So then becomes a fallen setness and every look changing from every scene and you told us as well that it was a cancerous start to hear his boyfriend.
The guy who plays any little psychic is Holly Queen Smith's boyfriend who's done, if you're a fan of Kevin and all of his many podcasts that he does, he's a lot with his I would say future son in law because then two are just so fucking adorable together. He's a casting, I can't think of he's set. Austin, ZR, I'm not sure if I'm saying that right, but a liars costume changing and it wasn't just that one again. Every single time he came on the screen he had a brand new costume on and I love the fact that it was Randall's experience of that heart attack that broke him.
God wasn't saying him so the setting was going to do the same but that was some of the highlights I was expecting. Things that hit up, form hard were like the big hit is like this when Randall's heart attack and then seen Don't hear free go in the hospital and you think what's going on here. And after it rose and every Dawson's character wasn't mentioned at all like at the start as well. And even though Becky was in promotional stuff which was in the trailer so you think where's Becky and then when you find out and it's just devastating.
It's hard break and I generally thought it just broke up and that's because that's what Don't do it does. He's relationships and terrible and I just assumed that he just broke up but to then find out actually not long after that it's literally it's off when I read when you see them getting the keys for the quick stop and she's pregnant. It's the car journey home after that Becky dies. Yeah.
They actually like and never thought a million years that Kevin Smith would go down that route of death. But you can really see how much he's heart attack is of only has pointed this out but how much he's heart attack is affected him. Because you would never have a main character die in a Kevin Smith film. Well he did have the balls.
He wanted to kill Donnie and clerks and do it and they even made reference and talked about it in this really which was already done where I don't have walks in and there's a good one point and the camera is like what's going on here is like we're just trying to find something else and you're not going to lose off in the third at one since there's a problem sequel. Yeah the original engine of clerks was going to be the end of John and apparently he wasn't too sure that Scott Moore wasn't too sure that and the studio didn't like it to grim. But God he's fucking wish this time didn't he. Well yeah and the way they killed him off as well because it was sad in a way that he knew that something was going to break him and it was the fact that Don is just pushing and I mean Randall's just pushing and pushing and pushing being Randall being the guy he's always been and thinking he's better than everyone else when he came to the realization of all the shit and everything that big busy come and gone and he thought about the movie as well he was like fuck that's why he freaked out in the hospital.
Like say again I might cry more times than two or twice that's what I've got to me as well is the aspect when he started I kind of go in there and freaking out. It kind of the realization on Randall that then I know with the Kevin Smith films nobody's ever going to win an Oscar or get rewards or get plodits for the acting but fuck me that fell real. And where's that probably school has an either Brian or Harlan is such an underrated actor because his delivery of even from going to Randall from Randall being in hospital and how he reacted to that to the fucking blowout that eventually causes his heart attack. He just took you through such an emotional fucking right now that you really really did but Lee just to mention the impractical job is in that scene because of Brian Quinn.
I used to work for Kevin back in the day. And that's how he knows Brian Johnson and how he does tell him to do it. I was actually going to mention the fact that the impractical job was work in the audition scene but it is just due to the fact that Brian Quinn once went to Kevin Smith I want to work for you and Kevin went what you want to do when you went out to anything and was like beat that guy you fucking Brian Quinn beat the guy that's how the work in relationship started. And the way that they did the death as well because it's like I said I got Randall to watch and I don't need to watch the movie and that's when Donnie kind of let go and he's and you see him sitting in the cinema with Betty.
Because if you ever listen to like any like Kevin Smith like stand up or he does like a Q&A or question with Kevin Smith when he talks about like his happy assigns it's always been like sitting there in the cinema with his dad and his dad used him to the cinema. He's that actually is just a normal work class and I think it's be a porcelain if you remember. He was a porcelain and he did that recently as a new vocal. And he always says that when he passes that he's happy place would be going to the cinema with his dad and that's where he expects to meet his dad.
Yeah and that's what that's saying to us as well because with Kevin being so close to realizing that moments because with his heart attack being a serious one. I that realization that everything he's like Kevin had put in this movie was from his work like it was like basically a love letter to his life. If that makes sense and it was a sort of like the imbued of he done that I just don't have the words to say like how much that I got for that moment. Yeah I think with this film you have to understand and be a fan of Kevin otherwise something to just really are going to go over your head.
But the fact that the conversations that Donnie has with Betty and I agree with you and like when she sees her I can't instantly think that that's how Kevin is managed to come back. Because his dad's dad losing his dad was huge for him and it was very unexpected as well. And I just imagine that that he has had these conversations and I just saw so much of what I think this man is in this film. Like he's reaffirmed what I believe I know about him.
I was going to say something about the ending and I'll talk again. But this film as well being a Kevin Smith film was full of cameos like all the cameos like these were like I was crying laughing at just a long cameo when he was in hot wind round open ourselves and it's all about shaving his nuts and stuff like that. And the whole awkwardness and I don't know why but the mean to do it like a sweet accent as well. So it's just a long way if you watch him in Zachary McPorn or he kind of helped but do accents I don't even leave you to want to talk properly into us either.
That is what you got to know about. But honestly like one of the highlights was even bringing back what's in him again I can't understand him but Veronica from the first. Veronica and Marilyn do you let's do that. We're bringing back in the way that did was just a fun little like essence and having a bean saw anglers and this is my life I don't want to be on screen but just realizing that she was having a bad time.
And actually I have a conversation with Donnie and I got kind of reliving that kind of soft moment but then just finishing off with him what I thought. Yeah it was lovely and the fact that Wolf Flanagan got to do the Eggman. That was fantastic. And also they dedicated the whole film to Lisa Spoonia who was Caitlin Brie in Clerke.
Not too long after Clerke I think I don't. 2017. Oh right I was a bit. 2017 yeah so I think you've got to think how long he's had Clerke's three on the table for because I know he's I know the script has changed since his heart attack but I'm sure he's been talking about doing this for a long time.
If we had some changes because I know originally you want to do Clerke I mean more rats too but I think with what you call now Shannon. Yeah I mean I think with the comment going ill that kind of appears that that to stop. Yeah I don't know about that. Yeah I mean he was a major part of that.
Yeah we're going to do like a TV show for more rats for a little while. But I know when he had his heart attack he pretty much rewrote this movie completely from start to finish from what he wanted and how it was going to play out. But I as I said the elements in this which kind of surprised us it was rehashing a lot of clerks and showing like how they did things or what but like how it went in it was just hilarity and I was there for at all. The use of colour in this as well and because I don't think Kevin gets a lot of credit.
I made a joke earlier. I was in photography skills and I filmed a talk of free sorry. He's never been one for like the best shots or anything to be positioned right. It's all long.
See it in one one shots and things don't really progress most but the colours in this as well like was used in a way that made it so vibrant, different. I feel like a clerk's film. No it felt like I was produced with some money. Yeah absolutely.
And there is one person who I want to talk about who absolutely made me a belly laugh to the point where I nearly fell out of bed. Jason, Jason is the Jason Muse. There is one scene in that film where he, it's such a throwaway line when the outside of me comes out and tells him that he got out of bed. But he's so fucking serious.
And it just had me in absolute stitches. Jason didn't, do you know what for once it felt like Jason wasn't trying to take over. He was very subdued as Jay. Yeah.
But it wasn't terrible. No, no, I thought it was like him and Silent Bob. Well, like say the old, the old, the old. Not so much Silent Bob to fuck the talk.
Wait a bit. I think if you see, Kevin wanted to put his thumb on it as well. But Jason Muse went back a little bit to Jay in the original clerk's and kind of forgot about like what's happened before or after like with everything that's gone in his life. I need to say we haven't fun.
And that's what the big thing and with how some burn everything, and there's movie. This was a fun movie. I know we talked and we cried a lot and stuff. Oh, God.
It was hilarious. It was all the right reasons. But even the jokes, like when they're in the shot in the video store and the woman's coming in to ask what the difference is. And they do different takes and she does different accents and how they play it out.
It was just hilarious because that was one of my favourite scenes in clerks. It just felt so unnatural. But having it in an unnatural way was just absolutely hilarious. It's the fact that they were running a weed store, but yet generally they were running a VHS store.
And I just said with all the in jokes, all the little cameos up there, having the shit in the litter box as well. That was just absolutely hilarious. Having the guy coming in and talking about cigarettes. Cigarette guy, guys.
And then the guy who said, oh, I fucked Caitlin. I was the guy. Oh, you're the guy that did it. And then the talking about like a cigarette to a black lady in white washing and acting in the movies and stuff like that.
It was like, you can't use that term. You can't use that term. You can't use it in design. That's just racist.
It's not just the time. It was so funny in the end. A lot of callbacks to it. And it was just it was such a breath of fresh air for this film.
It really was. If for all it was an absolute emotional rollercoaster, it was just fucking clever. Like massively cleverly done. And I'm like, I will never shit on a Kevin Smith film ever.
I will die on the hill for reboot. But I can understand where people come from. I get it. He's not for everyone.
You cannot fucking say that about this film. It is for it is. It is for it. I just hope this is where Kevin goes in writing takes his time.
I think that's got to be like the question is what comes next because this must be a mega high. I know. Kevin Smith films don't always get the highest ratings. I'll make it biggest money.
But for a small bit of text portion of people of always our age, it's pinched. The main the fucking world. Cause like I said, these were our like we went up and films. These are what we made friends and related to and had them and type of aspects.
Again, I don't know what it's like in America, but I know in the UK, there is a lot of love for Kevin Smith. And again, I felt sorry for my part of the moment. He's shipping his me because he keeps getting in the films with doesn't that talk. Yeah, I love that idea though.
I just think when it comes to Kevin because he is what now 50, 51, 52. I'm sure he's just celebrated. He's birthday is an old list. I know that.
Where are you Kevin Smith on my Wikipedia? In 1970. He is 52. And for a 52 year old who still celebrates everything that he loves from his childhoods.
It just gives me as a 39 year old woman validation that that's okay. He validates everything because if it's times where I'm like, I'm ready. Should I start growing? Oh, yeah.
You bought a transform out of day. But no, it's like certain parts of me like I'm like, should I grow up? Should I, you know, do I need to change this or any change that? And then I just put something of Kevin Smith on it can be honestly, it can be one of his Q and A's, his films, his podcasts, you know, the blog does a lot.
And even just going on to his Instagram page and I'm like, no, it's okay. I don't have to conform to anyone because Kevin Smith says it's fine. Yeah. I do them in high regard for that.
Yeah. And that's why we always do reality songs. And again, I know you're like a little bit, shall we say, rose tinnitus glasses when it comes to certain movies, shall we say, but other than the two minutes coming off like in reboots, it left me a little bit, the tears a little bit was tittin' out my mouth. It's kind of like, I love it.
I love it as well. I was like, yes, this is so fucking metal. But yes, but this one kind of didn't do that. And it wasn't, like I said, not a disappointment.
Nothing that you, like you were never left thinking what if that was the big thing. This was an indefinite ending to this franchise. I do this film series. And it took massive risks as well.
Because that's one of the things I think Kevin Smith does, again, get criticized for with a lot of these few ask you movies. Not the ones like Red State and Tusk, they were getting risks in the on right. But with characters that people hold like the two and kind of gravitate towards, he took a massive risk with this movie because the decisions he made can't go back. No, you can't.
It's not a Marvel villain. You know, it's not a superhero film. We can't resurrect people. We can't, you know, they are, it's gone.
They are gone. And it was such a bold choice to do. And quite honestly, I don't know if I would have been the same reaction if it was Randall who died. I don't think that would have been upset still.
But Dania is like such a pinnacle of these films that that hit hard. Yeah. And again, you probably said that Neil in the head, if Randall had died or if something had happened to the friendship where there was no return because that's what I was aiming for. Yeah.
It wouldn't have had as much closure. With Dania dying, it kind of takes away the dynamic of our friendship because it makes Randall kind of have to be accountable for ourselves. Now he can't just blame, I know now he's got a lie. And like I said, the whole subplot of them selling that, was it the digital image?
Oh, I think it was a pretty Christ or something. It was pretty Christ of kite. Yeah, because I'd say all these images now you can sell like bitcoins and stuff. Yeah.
So he made like a million pound of it so he invested in the soul. Because the Dan Eyre made the ultimate sacrifice. He financed the movie by selling his share to his ex girlfriend. Yes.
It was Kevin's lovely wife as well. Get a picture of Buck. Yes. He said about the knackling.
But that will like give us that little element in closure and then have a lie. It's always been kind of an equal now and not like an undoing. That was a nice little touch and again, finishing off them touches what I again might be a little bit selfish here and think I don't want Kevin Smith to direct many more movies after this one. Right.
And for the people I'm given like stories to tell and like as you're doing now with the masters of the universe building like franchises up. But I kind of want the view as you now to be out of bed and think there's anything that to do after this in this universe because even if they do like another James on the Bob another mall rats that's single the chasing Amy. It's not going to have the same effect and not same feeling where this is like starting with clerks. It ends with clerks.
Yes. It's gives us closure and that I think to me and not many franchises or movies as we're going to go to the house now gives you that closure. Yeah, I want 100% agree with you on that. It starts with clerks and ends with clerks.
Let's put it to bed. Kevin has so much to offer with his writing ability. Like you said, Masters of the universe was fucking tremendous. But that's Kevin Oliver.
He's just so fucking good at writing dialogue. He really is. That was a funny funny. It's comic books writing as well.
Like I would love to see him go back to comic book writing. I doubt that he would. But I'd love to see it because he is such a good writer. I mean it helps so he can talk your fucking classic life.
Yes. That's why I said I would love to him on this podcast but we wouldn't probably say a word in this section. So thought bubble when it was done digitally when we're in the middle of the pandemic and everything was done. They did the convention digitally.
Dear God, Kevin Smith on who will ask him if you're in bed. He said what? I watched it and I was like she's like she looks terrified because she's sitting in a bedroom staring at Kevin Smith most likely about this terrifying but she never said it got down but I'm currently halfway through he's talking with George R. And Kevin has not said a word.
All right. Because there's somebody who can talk more than Kevin. That's the thing because the problem is with Kevin now is if you've got an interview with him there's every question that's been asked and he's probably answered a million times. So it would be just asking him to talk whatever he wants to talk now.
Yeah. Just tell us about you, Kevin. How are you doing? You tell him to say yes.
As a whole it's not a perfect movie. Visually and as you said it tells the story and it has loads and there's bits where as you said this particular bit says things I can expect. It's a Kevin Smith movie so it's always got to have the vulgar thing in the dick and fart shorts which I'm always there for. It's not always for everyone.
I'll be devastated if you never put that in. I'll be fucking turned it off. But if you want to give us a red metal fire because you know what I like me five rings. What would you read?
Honestly you'll give us five. Five. Five is one of my favorite movies of the year because I was not expecting it. I was expecting to love it because it's Kevin Smith.
I was not expecting to have such an emotional breakdown that I did that it affected his days later. It's still affected his days later. And to me that was how I thought that was actually not emotionally but just more thought provoking me. It had me thinking for about a week and a bit afterwards like not just what the fuck I just watched.
That's what he's asked to it as well. The psychological part of it. It just had me thinking for a week and that's why I love that movie as much as I did and why I love this one because if something can affect us that way for a long time afterwards then as entertainment it did its job. That's I love that aspect of it as well because the amount of movies we do watch, well probably not some none of them kind of like leaves in effect and they're not really thinking about them.
There's certain ones that do jump in their mind. Of course, most of that for life. I'm trying to think of the others off the top of my head. Like recently there's not been many recently other than clerks through that selection and impression where you were thinking about aspects of it.
I could never give it a 5 out of 5 because there is no perfect movie other than Back to the Future which we'll be talking about this Monday. But I would say it was close to it for me but that was probably on a personal level rather than like someone who probably watched that movie and said it was a lot of garbage because they don't get the same thing. So maybe it would probably be a 4.5 because again. That's pretty decent score.
Because there's not many movies like as you said you can watch and think that impacted me. And I think that's one really did. It might be because of the personal relationship we have hold with the people involved. Well, personal is a strong word.
It is when it comes to my household because my husband is a patron of Talon Siviv and they are now housewife. We actually on Christmas Eve, when we sit in the present sometimes we will have the Talon Siviviv Christmas special on the background. That is a little bit of a tradition of ours. His presence of his world is very much living in my home all the time.
I think we should pray when they do something, I know it sounds almost a little bit patronised and do something right. And it's a hard sell to see that. I'm trying to think of the words where it's not patronised in or anything like that but there's so many when you watch a movie that you've got that anticipation for it. It's so easy to feel left down.
This movie didn't let us down in one aspect and that's a special feeling as well when it comes to it. I think a lot of films do pop up that way. I think I had a kind of a proud moment, like a really like I felt proud of Kevin for once knowing that he wasn't going to get shit for this. Yeah.
Because there's a lot of films that you could really shit upon when it comes to Kevin which you will never find coming out of my mouth but people can literally rip into pieces and I don't think there's nothing that can rip to pieces on this film. So it was like such a proud moment being a fan of his and thinking because the whole experience with Kevin is not just here's a movie you get it. Kevin takes that out on the road. Kevin Jason at the moment are still I think they're still doing the promotional work for this so they take it to the watch it with the fans and then to a Q&A afterwards you did it for reboot.
At this basically how he makes his money off it. But that's the thing because he refuses to let studio all his movies now. I think because of what happened with Morax because he still doesn't quite own it. Wasn't it Dogman?
Well Morax as well. Yeah because he can't get a copy of Dogman and Blu-Ray or anything like that. Yeah, it's like that Meramax stage that he will never ever happen again. Yeah.
And that's the good thing really. The only bad thing is that this movie was so hard to say in the UK. I got a very limited cinema release where I was busy, especially in the North-East of England. I think the closest pictures I was showing it was either Miltzborough or Leeds.
Oh I'm going there. Yeah, I'm going to Miltzborough. I'm not going to Miltzborough. He has to come to us if you want to say this.
And it's not Green Car. He's coming at the front of the back seat. Oh I have just told everyone what Goodwill's Car has in the back seat. So they can easily find it.
And do you know what the hilarious part is? Goodwill is here. I can't hear us because he's got us on news. He's got us on news.
He's got us on news. He's got us on news. He's got us on news. He's got us on news.
We've got done it. We've got done it. Yes. There's a lot to take from this movie in which I think each person who watches it will have oops who's got a love of Kevin's films will take different things from the movie.
So what did you take away from it? I probably said take away from it. They're not weird but they're not weird. And again this is just what we are doing now and thanks to the key question.
That's because for what we've got. So everything that we've accomplished so far again six and a half thousand people are in the world. We've got over 1,100 subscribers on YouTube. It's just about set up here on like and so on.
And hitting 100 episodes. It would be easy just to fall back and think this is easy now. But it's about pushing on and getting further. Like I said in one of the polls, yeah we've just done 100 episodes but it just feels like we're just getting started.
Like it doesn't feel like we've done 100 episodes. It just feels like it's just getting started and yet we've already done so much. But there's so much more. True.
I think a lot of the times as well it's anxiety and failure. Oh yeah we are. We're nerds. So the anxiety and social aspect of it definitely comes to play.
Yeah but I was saying there's like the failure kind of holds us back at times as well. It's like realizing that anything can take it away at times as well. As you said, like say we are getting older and someone is turning 40 this year this week. So it is a little bit scary as well but it's like not to rest and not to say we've done well.
That's the thing is that that was held on the back. It's not a aspect. This is again this is fun. This is something that we do try and have as much fun with as well.
It's just to make it fail and special for everyone else that it does for us. Yeah it's we're building community. We're trying to build a community but we can all be incredibly proud of. Yelly, sorry I just really sent comments.
It made me feel like I'm mortality as well and that yes I do definitely starting salads. Not that he said that he said about himself. I'm just I am complimenting. I'm exactly the same.
But the film did make me realize I was too short. Not to get like really serious about this shit but like it's too short. And how to deal with grief loss acceptance and patience. It was just you've got a lot of patience to deal with me sort of.
I think it's the other way around my friend. Me and my bullshit. But yeah I absolutely adore this film and I urge anyone if you can go watch it. Yes and also the watch on guys more to see please come your and our guys more.
That's a good sportly. He deserved it. That's why. So was that also done about to Claire?
Yeah. Yeah. A little short episode which I thought we quite want to do. We'll be trying to do more of these and also like a few extra ones for the period when we do go live.
This is kind of like a practice run, taste is on things to come. So I know we work on doing an episode on Sunday but someone has been very selfish and not taking into the groups mentally and decided to have fun instead. That would be me. I am calling me.
I am calling me. I will be travelling back from Liverpool and generally don't know if I will make it on time. So Paul has been nice enough to shift everything to Monday so he can enjoy his birthday weekend. Certainly.
But that is a good shout as well. If anyone who is listening and is going to Liverpool Comic Con this weekend, please, please, this would make my dear. Go over and make a big deal out of Sam. She'll be sitting on the table with Caroline who is next on the artwork and guest artist at the con.
So Sam will be sitting there. She won't be wearing a no-tish because she doesn't make it from or. She won't. She won't be on a t-shirt.
That's all I do. That's all I do. I do it on one but it's asleep and it's all. Oh yes.
So please, if you do say Sam, make a big deal. Say hello. Ask the photos. Try and get photos of her feet as well.
Say that she's on the other side. I just made sure my trousers are nice. Just remind us to continue to keep wearing my trousers. Yes.
I even asked Sam to take a video with you to ask you to be on the podcast as well. All submissions are welcome. I'm sorry. Yes.
So back to the future is the next one. So I'm going to watch that again this week. We're not doing the trilogy. We're just doing the first one.
Oh, okay. Yes. So I thought we'd leave a trilogy for a later day when we start talking about movie franchises. More content.
But when we're just talking about the original, the first one. And I say, I want to know how wonderful and how much I've been in my DFOX is to me as well. So I might cry during that one. I didn't cry.
I didn't get as much as I thought. What else? Because honestly, couldn't hold the conversation with anyone after I watch that film. Yes.
So again, follow us on Facebook, YouTube, iTunes, Spotify, Amazon, whatever the fuck you listened to us. And I haven't put the 100th episode up yet. So you might get a two for if you do listen that way. But yes.
And again, like said, I know Jake and Goodwill will probably be twitching some point this time. Like, say, please, like, say, keep an eye out for the Patreon as well. We are going to have levels. And yes, we are going to have a Goony level.
So that is this special breed of people. What do you mean is that a lot going on? I haven't been. And I'm actually trying to keep you marriage together as well.
So that's always a good start. Yeah, that's a bonus. Let's not have any divorces in this day during this podcast, please. Yes.
And I know I didn't end it this way. I'm Sunday about. That was quite a funny way to do it. But yes, same by time.
Same by channel. See you now, everyone. Bye. Bye.
Bye, bye.
