Well, hey everyone and welcome to the Nodioh Knoth Podcast. It's the Nodioh Podcast, also by Northern Nodes. I am on your horse end. And I'm on the other horse pole.
And this week's episode kind of got changed last minute, so it is my fault this time. Sorry about that. So we were... It's not because it falls lovely with what we got released this week.
So it's a happy accident. Certainly. So we were going to plan on reviewing Thor, but it kind of didn't go that way because, I didn't get to say the Thor movie, shall we say. So it wouldn't be much point doing a review on a film I haven't seen.
Or something. You just get a one-sided opinion. Very much so. So it would be very different to do with that type of way.
But yes, so this episode, we are planning on doing XA review on the cult classic, the ultimate cult classic, Clerks, just because we did get a special trailer this week, which unfortunately we couldn't do a trailer review because we were both working and couldn't really make sure we did get the time and right, shall we say. Yeah, just in working our favour this time. So we decided that we would get together and do a host full episode just on the movie Clerks, which I had watching it in the day because it's been a while. And it took us three times to get through it because I kept falling asleep.
What about an indictment to the phone? Absolutely not. I was out yesterday. And wow, do I feel my age today?
So I'm sorry for the eye and the voice. So I apologize in advance. It's one of the first time when Sam sounds more like a block than me. So we'll not put that.
Really do. Oh, God. I'm not going to stop you morning. It's all I've done all day.
It's either I'm too hot and too old. My body can't take this anymore. No, we're going back to the 90s today. So let's do that.
And just to be the reference, Sam's got a bad throw up because she was out last night because she's stuck 37 days. Just get out with her. I'll see it before anyone else just a grant. I didn't even think of that.
Right. I'm going to get this clear out the way because I really want to crack on and talk about Clerks because after watching it, I'm like, I've listened. If that makes sense, I've listened to it. So so everything just goes into night episode of our opinions and our opinions alone.
If you want to discuss any topic from tonight's episode, please come and join us on the Facebook group and we can have an open discussion. What we won't have is anyone come for us and tell us our opinions are wrong. We can agree to disagree in fandoms. So let's keep it fun.
Keep it kind and keep the toxic behavior out of nerdism. Well done. Thank you. Thank you.
She's got one job and she does it well, bless. Ah! You cheat, you get. My God, I can hear myself back.
You know, I can actually hear you how I talk. Because I sound ridiculous. I'm so sorry. Go ahead.
As someone's already pointed out in the chat, are we even supposed to be here today? Are we supposed to be here today? No, I'm not meant to be here today. Oh my God.
You can do a drinking game at how many times he says that in that film. It is a film that is purely based on, as you said, dialogue and references alone. Visually, as you can see in this podcast episode, we are black and white as well. And God.
So visually, it's not the most spectacular movies. And it probably was the most independent movie that was shot in, what was it, $25, $22,000? Yeah, something like that. He got, he sold his whole comic book collection to finance the film, but also had to get out credit cards.
Oh, yeah. He made it for himself big style with, like, internet and stuff. But it's one of them things that you read about, and you're, like, as always being nerds and movie buffs and dreamers, that you kind of dream, like, the story to make a film and to go for it and have the balls to do it. I think that that's the thing, having the guts and thing, right?
I'm going to make something. I'm going to be a storyteller. That's what, that's when he hears interviews now. That's what he describes himself as, the great Kevin Smith.
I will get my knees to get on this podcast one day. All hail Kevin Smith and his genius because you are, you're such a risk tiger. And not even just for clerks. It's everything he does.
He risks everything. Just any, you can tell recently he's just doing it more for him. Definitely. And just before I just notice as well, because I did, thanks to Jake him as a little hint at tip last week.
This is probably the first podcast you're watching with Sam the right way around. So nobody gets always like flipped. So I managed to get things I need to show right and always being backwards and your room's always been thing. So if anyone's noticing that Sam stuff around the other side, it's because it's actually the right way to mend the big list.
Oh my God, I have never noticed that before. He has never noticed on my broken and burks actually says broken and burks. Wow, yes, this is my rhythm. So, like I said, I was trying to, I just said up the production and up the lock.
So like, just iron out a few teeth and problems as well. So if it does change and awkward will keep an eye out letting us know about a few things. So actually, so it's going to be a journey, shall we say? Yes.
He's so clever. You really are. Like, I can tell you, I was like, I was like, this is what I'm looking for. And like, right, I can do that.
I was like, you just so clever. Just learning and testing tests what works and what doesn't support. Yes. I apologize.
If you're in the UK, listen in the UK, you know it is hot as balls at the moment. So if you're here, like a fan noise, it's because I am so hot. It is ridiculously hot today. It is.
And it's quite hard to do like, say a collector of you when you film this talk because, like, say when you watch them back, like, you can tell where the film and it's mostly warm. So, or all the snuggins and gin, son of a bulb and keep it real. But Jesus Christ, I'm trying not to die today as well. It's just too hot, man.
I'm a gothic heart man. I can't be doing with this heat. So this came out in 1994. Yeah.
So I guess this one, in 1990s, this is the year that I started comprehensive school. It's the, the curf died. Wow. It's a massive year.
And it's got 90% of round tomatoes. Oh, that's the thing. Because when you read about like all the things, because I did do a little bit of research on this one, that basically when it came out, it was released at Sundance. Does that right?
Yeah, it came out at the Sundance Festival. And it won the Young Persons Awards. Like for a little shitty, like independent movie, that is about nothing. Like literally, to be fair, it is probably just like a therapy session for Johnny Hicks, like his worst day of his life.
It happens pretty much anything and everything that can go wrong. It is almost like a disaster movie in a way. It is. I won't get it done nearly the wrong because I got a few things to pick on about him.
Like he made a few choices. But to be fair, when we're all at that age, we did make a lot of good, bad choices. We all made decisions that were questionable. We all doing it today, nearly 40.
So yesterday was a big one. Definitely. But like I said, we're not as young as we used to be. But I think as a coming of age movie, it was not even a coming in age movie.
It's like a lost age, shall we say, like the years after your teenage where you don't really know what they're doing with yourself. I think that kind of flaws. Yeah, absolutely right. It's like in between time because I don't here is in a job, but yet has been champion to go on and to do college.
And he's like, I just don't know. Like he's just it's like right in the middle of like leaving school and deciding on what you want to do. And he just even when you look at the clerks too, he still hasn't figured it out. It doesn't look like the clerks.
No, but that's it. That's the best. He's the kind of person who he just doesn't know. But Randall has his like for all he's a dick and he can come up.
But he hasn't figured out. You know what he wants to do? Yeah, he's kind of like, I would say not bothered about like doesn't overthink stuff. He's not a great thing.
He's more of today as the day and makes it live today and this will happen. But as you said, we really put that the start. You listen to clerks now if you just like not watch and there's a listener held it at all. This isn't like the quintessential way that people do talk to each other.
They use words and language and have discussions that I wasn't having in my 20s. Like they had similar tone similar beats but not like to the degree or like say the top is I don't know if that was just general middle like say general America, like say New Jersey type of conversation. So I know all the characters and stuff will be just from Kevin Smith's experience. So working up like say the quicks off.
Yes. And so Randall is I don't know if he's done to a Randall because it's Kevin Smith and Brian Johnson. If you're a if you watched a comic book menu and you'll know who Brian Johnson is. He's also the host of Telens TV podcast, which is off, which comes from all rats.
And but it's Kevin Smith and Brian Johnson are Randall and don't and I'm sure was someone in the channel tellers who who and Wolf Anakin who is one of Kevin's best friends and his Brian Johnson's bestest friends. And he's he plays like four different characters. So there's no clear picture as to where he fits into like the friendship circle and GMU is just just just just just just just just just just just just like the character. Jay is just just just just you.
And I was thinking of myself earlier that you know they're not really they're not established in the game. It's like the J character like Jay doesn't quite get it yet. But when you listen to him, it's like actually no, that is him. That is very much in the one that you got in reboots.
That's not Jay. No, no, definitely not with a new teeth and everything. But when I thought that I always remember when he got them teeth and I was like, what has happened to his face? I understand you got new teeth and well done.
Well done on your recovery, but it's changed your face. But I always love like the story like Evans may fall was held when he does his son like his like live shows and how he first got like introduced to the gym like GMU's and he's experienced like they're from then on of how G was in his life. Basically how he was working in the quick stop one day and basically just put note that the new speakers and then in walks GMU's just basically like as Jay and son and Bob just walking straight through and just basically saying I'm going to suck this off. I'm going to suck this and I'm going to suck this and I'm going to suck this guy.
And then this walks over to like an old arcade machine with a joystick and so like given fluency or joystick by saying I'm sucking this bitch. I'm sucking that bitch and I'm coming to this and it's just like some there in all watching one. What's this guy's problem? And I don't know if it was like Brian Johnson this is all that's just Jay.
That's just the little kid. That's just that's how he is. And it kind of hung out in the quick stop ever since and that's how they become friends because Jay like to suck things off. He's just he's such a big part.
We all know he's like a massive part of Kevin's life and Kevin has I always thought that Kevin felt he had a responsibility to Jay because what you see in Clerks is GMU's. Yeah, 100%. That is that is 100% authenticity of GMU's but he comes from a really shitty background. And I think Kevin fell stories and I think he has done his whole life.
I read one of these books and which is all it's like diary entries and it at one point Jay ends up stealing my credit cards from his house. He's putting his daughter's life at like at risk because the police are like being brought and it's done so much at the still to do. Federal life partners. It's like what a friendship.
True. I think it was a stage where even Kevin said look you get clean or that's it. And that's when Jay did well. Jason Hughes did get everything sorted and his back on track now.
I think it was either just before trying to think of the film now because it was after James and Bob Strike back. But I can't remember. I don't think it was because I think it was just before Zachamari. Right.
Yeah, because he's he's sober then. And what was the dogma not one day I was he's sober on that film. But I still love the story that when just Kevin Smith with this fight of his life in the Jason Hughes telling him saying look I've got a real British actor in I've got his name now. I'm a British actor in Alan Rickman now he's not going to put up with any of your shit without you're not knowing your lines.
So you either learn the lines of this movie or you are getting recast and Jason Hughes got so scared. He not only learned his lines he learned the lines for the whole script for every single member of the cast and he could say it for the Vietnam as well and that was like say when Kevin Smith realised that he wasn't just a dick sucker. Yes, I just I've got so much love and patience and time for Jason Hughes and I think I think a lot of it comes from Kevin. The person who he is comes a lot from Kevin.
I think I say with everything. It's our teenage youth. I would like to say adolescence like that's what so we always want to have like I know I thought about the 80s films being hit with nostalgia and stuff. Kevin Smith does that just by being there and just by talking about movies like I said because I know plucks was it last year or the year before a few years ago I could actually put into like the Hall of Fame.
I got the Hall of Fame there. The Hall of Records. Mrs. Tony or something?
Yeah, something historical and music. I do know what you mean. So I was always going to be in the archives so I'll always be played or have like say being like history of the type of movies it was and that was always a big deal from them. Again, when you watch this film back now it is needed.
Some of the shots it is cringeworthy but it's got so much feeling so much resolution and each character is bizarre and as weird you can understand from like the start like say when Donnie gets a call and never understand why he's in the club. Why is he in the wardrobe? He's got like a wardrobe fetish and stuff as well. It's too hot.
Is that how we came on? So we have to go in the wardrobe and just to go back one frame back from that is the opening of it. Don't know if this came up on yours but it came up on mine and it's a sketch drawn of his production companies as well as his and all my comments. I generally think well Flanagan drew that because he's a Wilson artist and I think he drew that and if he did travel because I was like that that sets me for the tone of wear out.
Yes, just that one bit there. Well, yeah, but then like see you get the phone call and he's in the cupboard. Always confused. It's still confused.
You've got a bed. What we were doing, like we said he was on clothes on the night before so he wasn't out partying. Was he just tired that he's collapsed in a cupboard? Because he's still dressed and still thing but then comes into the hall like say a day of hell when he's getting shafted by his boss or makes the deal.
As long as he's going to be in by 12 o'clock he'll do it because he's got a game of hockey and you know he's going to play that hockey game. Another huge state of Kevin's life. Definitely. But throughout this like, because it's not a short film.
It is, but I don't know. I know it's going to be like I said reviewing it but jumping from bits to bits. The version I watched not too long ago was the clerks X version like the anniversary. And what I did, which I didn't realise I bought it and I kind of like left it on the shelf.
Like one of these people like when it comes to David Aes himself I'll buy it and I'll say I'll never watch it because why shouldn't we're destroying them? It's nice to have. But the cutest thing in that I didn't know that did, you know about this. No.
So you know when he's going to the funeral and like say in the original you cut him going into the funeral home and it cuts them getting she's out and you don't know what happened when in there's like Randall's getting shipped and it's in Deficating the corpse and stuff like that. But in the actual this version the lost episode in the car room. So that's the scene in where it's busy Donnie and Randall in the in the funeral home talking to all the people about like the characters from all rats and stuff are there. And they all have the conversation about why she died and how basically I've brought you basically told her about how camera adds 20 pounds so she went and so on and so on.
It was hard. So that's the whole element in the car room. I was like, holy shit, this is completely blown my fucking mind here. And I was like, no, like glued with one.
This is completely new. I remember the car room coming out. I didn't remember these aspects. But it's quite funny as well.
It's got Randall with like these cards and the company Christ. And I was like, all right. So this car room was made after dogma. Yeah, it was 2003 that the car didn't came out.
And I only know that because I was doing a bit of reading this afternoon. And the, yeah, because when he comes out, you see them going, you see them quite with the runout. And he's like, you didn't have to knock her over. He's like, well, put her back in again.
It's not like she's going to be worried about broken bones and stuff. But I was like, this is like, again, because I know you watched it today, but you probably might say, depending on which version you found. The front team of first. Yeah.
And that just completely blew my mind. I was like, that they've actually cut that in and playing this club to do it because we never knew what happened in that church and that kind of gives you that in little insight and who was involved in it. Again, there's a little call back tomorrow. As well.
And just like leads to like leads everything sort of interconnected and how it's all so well. Yeah. Can you all be said, the view is you at universe is one. So that's like, I'm speechless.
I think my mind. So I would certainly suggest like anyone who's like not saying it or like in a while, go back and try and look at this version. It's almost like the snide of the watchman where they could like the black, the black was another black. That's a different franchise.
The black. Was it the caribbean? Was it the black sale though? That was in the hood into the cartoon in the watch and film.
It kind of made the film make more sense in a way. But yeah, I absolutely loved it. I actually went and put that back in and came in the voices and everything as well. But I know after this was after clerks that Kevin and the guy who plays Randall, what's his name?
Jeff Anderson. Jeff Anderson, the other fall, now didn't they? It was somewhere between obviously clerks and clerks too in that timeframe because they had a massive fall and it was all the money. Yeah, because I think Jeff Anderson thought he was going to be the next big thing because you could see why he had charisma for the days in this movie.
And it stands out for like again, just being in Kevin Smith Smith's to me, it's just on a film. Like the way he moves the way he talks, you can't take your eyes off him in this movie. And as soon as he comes in, it makes a black and white film have cover. Oh, absolutely.
Because when you see Randall in clerks too, I'm not shocked of how he looks. Yeah, totally go away. I think Jeff Anderson is the only out of his pram over money because Kevin lost clerks pretty quickly after he came out. He did not have the rights or it was only just either just getting it or it was about to just get it back.
Because I think he got the rights back from the UK. I guess that's how he gets to finance other stuff is to, you know what I mean? I don't know the ins and outs of the business and how it works. But in my head, Kevin wants to go on because clerks was huge.
It was independent Sundance. Then he got like a 10 minutes Sanjil invasion for us. I'm thinking talks about like saving this proudest moment. So I remember because I didn't watch clerks when they first came out.
I watched clerks after I watched more rats. So I thought it was just a more rat. That was like we gave a drug into the chemistry world and then went back and rewatched like to say, because I didn't say more rats after this and I saw it on DVD when it came out. So by this time, I think Chase and Amy was out as well.
So I was more rats, clerks, then more rats again than to Chase and Amy. Then I can say when they've announced Jane and Simon Bob and Dogman and stuff like that, my shit just went, yeah, this is exciting. But when you went back and watched clerks, because clerks and more rats have similar beats with totally different fails. Like you can tell clerks is a completely independent movie, just weird shots, how the cutscenes and how all the camera angles are pretty much identical.
Like two people standing feet like they're almost like the WWE style of film and then the end is back in the day. But when you used to watch, like I said, all the side on watching TV. Yes. Tell us what to do with that.
Yeah, the certain beats and tropes are still there. It's going about how it's been, how it was filmed. I just, I love the fact that he did put it in black and white. And I don't know why.
I just don't know why that makes such a difference. I think it gives a little bit more atmosphere. But I think good will put in the chat earlier that it was down the cost that he did it was a cheaper way to film. And especially makes it really did it as well.
But I know I said it once I'll say it again, just to say the guy had balls to go out and follow a dream because he dropped out with film school and Canada was notes and after one semester. And decided for this, I'm going to make a film. I wish I did it when I was younger. I wish I had the balls, but I'd say we're doing a podcast.
Exactly. You've come, you've come to you've come to the last like year and a bit. We've been doing this. So I'm going to give myself that and shit over that.
And I tell you what though, I've been itching to say this for a while just to get it out. And how, how heavily influenced that man is by Tarantino is so evident in this film massively. It's the dialogue. It's the indict because Tarantino is very famous in that dialogue and Kevin just, just about gets on a Tarantino level with dialogue.
But it's just so much better. Only because Tarantino's dialogue is just it can come across as one note, whereas his was it was the characteristics behind it. Yeah, I think with this as well Tarantino's is like dialogue is to the extreme, but with Kevin Smith, it's normal everyday conversations that's just dialed up to 11. A little bit of a reference there to an old independent movie as well.
Because the conversations are just, you would never dream of having the type of conversations other than textation or hard pass chat and you've got certain donna talk to me about some 37 days. Someone's doing it. And how can we get that telephone number? Yeah.
But you're the other one with the software. That's all I'm saying. One of your contacts that I was confused to you. I wasn't even meant to be.
That's a small early-out text message. We need to randomly just fit that in because how many times he says it is ridiculous. But it means something though, because of the end thing, which I'm sure we'll get into a bit when we start like talking about the film in depth, but it does mean something. So it has it has a great purpose.
Something else is going to say enough totally for him. Sorry. But this is one of probablys because I know there's other movies like Kevin Smith has, like more of us is a very cool movie chasing him. As I think clerks is probably the standout from people, more people reference.
Like I said, we went when we got the funny podcast and live audience. Everyone's shouting out at the same time. 37 days when we mentioned clerks. So again, it lives out on an infinite.
This basically the berserker will just suck my cup. Sorry. And like I said, there's just so many when going into the conversations about this was basically before I said the me to movement and before I equally and stuff. But back then it showed you the difference between and the data have the conversation, the difference between men acting one way and women acting another way.
So he's probably saying I'm 12 girls and then goes absolutely ballistic at his girlfriend because she's sub 37 days. 36, 37. Great window. Yeah.
So it shows you like Kevin Smith at the time as well was hitting beats and before and looking for equality and things that came out later. Yeah. So I think it's quite important that like even though this was a piss take on everyone jokes about the 37 days, it shows that like a sludge human was a thing back in the day and bad at how wrong it was. And no one should be feeling in adequate for.
Yeah, there's not there's not one rule for him and one rule for her. And he was he was definitely good because she shouted louder than him and that argument. Yes. Yes.
And it made it honest, it did it's it's that conversation actually still there's more than some of the other ones because of how she was talking about. Right. There's no difference in him from 12 women as opposed to her some days and there's no difference in it. Yeah.
But yet he didn't see it that way. And like I said, he had the gold and even though I was here with going to the aspects the way you have to throw the movie like Don't be like fan of is a nice guy, but he is a dick for a lot of the things he does. This is what I wanted to get into about Johnny. He is so I can't add I generally think that this is Kevin.
This is Brian Johnson. I can imagine Brian Johnson just being an angry motherfucker. He might be like totally mellowed out now because he's got his life together. But I'd imagine him being this angry.
He just every shot with it. Everyone. Yeah. Then talk to them.
We just show down them. And he went a bit selfish as well when he saw the newspaper and he saw his ex girlfriend was getting married and went into the point where he formed the newspaper to ask if it was a misprint. I was like, I don't know. I'm going to get the guy because he was like, no, it's not.
Yeah. So I know we've kind of jumped from it a bit. But what would you say is the standout parts for the movie for you that's resonating. I called up to you.
I know we talked about the 37 days. The two bits. One that's kind of like funny and one that's really that's quite poignant and serious. The funny one obviously being the Star Wars reference that we all know about.
And probably a good point to get into it now actually. The fact that they use that in in a false awaken. It was fucking brilliant. And poor guys and poor contractors.
I never thought of that like say it before. Oh, God. No, I just know. And I love the fact that after that, I couldn't stop working about it.
I think about it all the time. I was not just Star Wars. It's anything like if you remember how badly Manas steel got like persecuted because of the damage that they did in that film. And I'm like thinking, Oh, my God, I'll then put it in some people.
It's like we were just doing the job. Yeah. Like, but then the whole con actors is that getting you in these choices and you choose. You've got moral compass as well.
And again, you think about shit? He's right because I wouldn't work for someone who was going to like say end up killing or take out all civilization. Again, not to try and take the tone down and hit the rose up again. Like the second rise of Hitler.
I wouldn't be on board with that shit. That's already happening right now in the world. But yeah, I'm not sure that I'm not sure that shit. None of fucking chance.
And I just love that conversation in general because I can imagine and we probably have had that conversation before, like something along those lines. And I'm not like just daffy little things within no reason. Like, I love the fact that he brought that and the song is brilliant. Well, I'm okay.
Absolutely love it. And the second bit is the end. Which one? Okay, so I'm going to go with my end and then I've watched today and where Randall, because Randall always has this like, because he for all these a dick.
He really is what he's a funny. He's a funny dick. Like, he's never gone out of his way to actually hurt anyone when he, when he says to the ex girlfriend, like they haven't a career laughing and all of a sudden you go break his heart again and I'll break your face. It's not in personal.
But no, the end very he says, he's going, I wasn't meant to be here. He's like, but you could have gone home at any time. You chose to be here. You know, your shoes and your everyday life to be here.
Stop blaming everybody else. For your choices. Exactly your choices. You chose to stay here.
But haven't we all got someone like that in their lives? That kind of like looks at different elements and things. This is not my fault. This is because of this circumstance.
This is because I've had to do this. Randall proved in one scene that it's all about choices and behavior. Flex behavior by splitting in that man's face or water. Guy probably didn't expect it.
And it definitely didn't expect it because, like I said, like interaction and that guy trying to kill him and Randall just sitting in the back just enjoying it all in was just. He doesn't even move. He doesn't think she doesn't move. He just said, like, yeah, what's the what?
Yeah. He's just like, this is movie action. So again, he would say I chose the spot on his face, but then that guy chose to attack me. He could have chose the what we all leave or any choice that they would make you think about like all the choices you do end up meeting.
So it's a very powerful movie, but make sure to think about like in a stupid way because everyone thinks it's a crude dick and far chalk movie, but there's so many different elements that make you think about life or your choices. You probably just don't even think about it in certain ways. Sorry to go all day when you guys know. Welcome back to the next episode.
I'm sorry. That's still going to be there. But no, you're totally right. And when I said earlier that I listened to it, like we've probably seen this film a hundred times and the first time I saw it, I get it.
And then the rest of it, I'm just watching just beads of movements that I already know, but when to do when I actually sat and listen, this is why I kept going back over it. And I thought, honestly, that's all the age. But I wanted to make sure that I heard everything because obviously we're talking about it tonight. And I wanted to make sure that I understood where he was coming from with it.
And that it's, it's that last bit and he does it. He also does it again in close to the end where he's like, well, what do you want to do? And he's like, well, I want to open the quick stop and I want to run it myself. And that was such a powerful statement like Jeff Anderson knows how to deliver the powerful but also knows how to deliver the funny.
He's a brilliant actor. It is a shame that I think his bitterness might have stopped him from going as far as what he probably pushed. Yeah, because I think as we talked about before, like, there was a fallout and he probably thought he was going to be the next big thing because he is the standout and probably could have done a lot more. But I think Kevin has been extremely lucky with like people he's known and people who he's like friends with and people who grew up as well like like Affleck, like Damon, Jason, Jason Lee.
Just like, like, say, like, say all these people have like, come and start any short films early and kind of step around. I've been like, say, essential for the view, ask you, like say universe and staples now, but going back to make sure the things my ultimate favorite scene in Clerks is the one way sitting on the desk waiting for just waiting in the newspaper and I think I've showed the clip before we went live was when a woman's like asking them about these two movies and he just couldn't give a fuck and he's just sitting there going, I don't watch these movies and just going back and saying what about these two and she's just going to turn to him without even looking at the company. And so he's like, you're not listening, you're not paying attention and he just turns around on her saying I don't appreciate your rules, ma'am. And he says it in that complete like talk dispassionate tone.
And he's just so well like they delivered and you can tell how angry she is. And as we know from our jobs we do we will be able to put the public for a certain day as this is kind of like a celebration where we're punching in the essence. We wish we could see half the things that these guys see, we wish we could act in certain things like log off shut down and just say, you know what, get fucked. Yes, yeah, absolutely.
I think I think I do not think because of our jobs we totally appreciate that side of customer service like, oh my god, like that in my head, that's how my conversations playing out. I want to help you, but you're not helping me so please. Yeah, exactly. It's just like as you said, a fun voice dream with all the conversations and with the whole, I said, don't know if making bad decision after bad decision, especially with like a few girlfriends Veronica who was when as G pointed out, with G.
Having, because normally, like in the later films it was always a son and Bob who has like a dialogue that kind of sets the tone and sets the story and finishes everything off to give that moment of realise clarity show he says, but this time it was dear and he says, the running a coming in like an after year bring your food, loving you, why, why would you not like say one that why would you want to go with the Kevin brave Kevin. Why would you want to go with Kevin brave who just fucks around and makes you miserable. And when you've got someone that's there that loves you and you love her. That should then make sense that should be enough.
That should be enough. Yeah, it should be enough. John Tim must have something very special going on between his legs because he always gets the women who fall for him. Now, just in this film, putting clerks do as well.
It's crazy. Roseway Darlson, even Kevin Smith's wife's memory and memory. That's the one I can't pronounce it. I said, I love interest.
I've done it. But again, even the first one, beautiful, like say, typical New York or Jersey accents. Did you notice all the women sounded exactly the same? Anyone who came on had exactly the same accent.
And I read earlier the day that Caitlin Bri actually passed away in 2017. Oh, oh, over to us. Lisa Spoona. Yeah, yeah, she passed away in 2017.
And Brian O'Holloran Kevin Smith did massive trivia with Stuart and go fund me as well because she left behind like a family. But it sounds like she had a lot of troubles. Right. So there's my she's dead moment.
To be fair though, not the ruin the the torn there. What happens to rain this movie could happen and not an effect. She did fuck it. Oh my God.
She did fucking dead. It's the way she honestly is the way she comes out the toilet and she grabs that tie and she's like. Yes. She looks traumatized when that ambulance comes.
But again, dated back as well. How creepy that guy was. Can I use the bathroom there, Sam? I know I've got a bit of a conscience issue.
It's like, oh, just again, you can just do anything. Just do anything. Just fuck off. Then he comes back for a point like that should have been the point.
But that's the level of like Fox. I don't give it this point. It's just like now. You'd already had his copy and ruined.
Like say, when he closed and I do smack, just start slating because he wants his packets cigarettes. But even then actually all the different elements, I can't believe we haven't even mentioned it yet. The cigarette guy. Yes.
I think that's a genuine story as well. Like if someone coming in trying to to porch business to that show and go. Early on, inside things were all genuine stories as well. Even like the egg man and makes it.
The one who's trying to find the perfect doesn't. It's a guidance, constantly sitting there bashing eggs and things with any claims of the mess and peers for everything when they finish. It's like, I wouldn't. The problem is people in America that have lost the shit that much to go to these links.
But like say, there's so many moments where you emotionally like, oh, this is too much. Or you throw up a little bit when a call, like Scott Moses carried this snowball. Like I generally that was the first time I was in for it and introduced that finish back in the day. So when I was back, it has been a little bit more innocent.
Because I don't think I heard it. I was like, excuse me. Because I didn't realize that because I bring that 37-Dix conversation is that moment right there. And Moshe was not meant for screen.
Well, it's a beautiful man, but he was not meant for the screen. He was just terrified and like, he reminds me a little bit of a good woman. And then in the look and they're delights. Yeah, if you like Moshe is brilliant.
Like him and Kevin, like I think Kevin's first ever podcast, like the journey of his podcast in Korea started with Scott Moshe. As everything does when it comes to Kevin and creativity, it's always with Scott and they do and smart. The smart cast, I can't remember what it's called, but even having Kevin Smith go frame by frame of the Harry Potter films. And Scott Moshe is some of the most delightful conversations I have ever heard.
They are so funny. You always remember Scott Moshe, Camior as well. Because even Clerks too, when you sit with a little kid. You're not going to be a P.
Oh, that's just, he's such a good guy. He really is like when you listen to him and Kevin talk together and he's just said, but he's how he was talking in the film. I really think that's how Scott really talks. I hope so.
Never do have a conversation with that. That's going to be one of the questions I will ask him is Scott Moshe like he is in Clerks or is he just basically a normal guy. But he's went on to like see some huge things. He did the Grinch movie, he's like the three-animation as well.
So he's moving on to really big things. I was Scott Moshe. But I still remember like saying that scene when they put Caitlin in the ambulance and he just sits in randomly and the clothes are doors. But like to the dead guy, I wouldn't price Scott Moshe with a certain level.
I could no idea. It's like why? It's just the most random things that will happen in this film. But it is, I wouldn't say it's hard to put it as a complete film.
It's almost like not as with us. Pull fiction in a way that's just loads of different random clips throughout the day. But not doing this joint yet. But you don't actually get like the story, if that makes sense.
It's just kind of like the day in life of don't it. Yes. Do you know what reminds us strongly of Friday? Yes.
It's because I don't know which game first. But it's just a day in the light, isn't it? Of one person. Ice Cube wrote that, didn't he?
He actually wrote the film. I think it's a lot of fun to do with all the Fridays. I can say that kind of comparison does sound quite strongly there. But yeah, no, I thought that way.
Now you've said it, I can't unsee it. Yeah. It's just very similar. And I think that works when you've just got one day.
You've got like just think about looking at it from a creative point of view. He's got one day to give you, to make you give a shit about these characters. Yeah. That is that is some specialized work in there.
That is just one day in a life where you have to not only get to know these people, either fall in love with them or hate them and root for them at the end. It's such a such a brilliant way of storytelling. True. I think as well, there's an element of like, say the office to this as well, like really, you're just when you kind of watching it through your hands, like things and don't hear this decision.
You don't do this. You don't have to fall down. You kind of screaming at the TV to stop them from kind of going there. That's always been the element of, to me, it's a cringe TV.
I think I'll cringe movies. Oh, the office is definitely, definitely cringe. But you've just reminded us of the catch it in a little box. Yes.
I think you get mixed in afterwards. The phone down is just like sniffing. It's just more random. I think that's one of Kevin's cats.
Kevin was a cat person. That's why we like him so much. Because he was a cat person. He's an animal of a yes.
Oh yes. But he is now going full of vegan after he's a heart attack. But that leads us a little bit into like, say what we saw this week with clerks, three trailer hit. Yeah.
They have went very meta in the story that they are telling with this one. Thank you for using my words because I've said it's not meta. I was going to fucking it is. Definitely.
It's like life over the last bit of what happened to Kevin in real life. So that's why I think Randall is Kevin because Randall's one of a heart attack and Randall then decides to meet in the movie. So to me that kind of, like, just because I was trying to work out before, but that then popped into my head. But yeah, like, because clerks too, is a full story that gives a different ending to like what's happening.
So when it's announced that they're going to do clerks, I was kind of like, what story are they going to tell? Where are they going to go with this? And now I've seen the trailer. It's paid to be interest.
Oh, gotcha. Oh, 100%. Yeah. I was like, Anthony, this is like one of the most meta things I've ever seen.
It's literally Kevin's last few years put into the character that he created for himself back in the 90s. Well, to be fair, you made a reboot just to me friends a bit enough like a kiss. Yeah. I have no problem.
I don't see what anyone has an issue with this reboot. I generally had such a fun time watching it. I thought it was so fun. I don't use it.
It just felt stuff. Like, because Jim Sannebob was a fun movie. It felt exactly like, as you said, it was a reboot of that. That didn't quite need it.
Just with less crudeness and a little bit less punchy. It was really, it was torn down a lot, but I would just have Jamie who was saying what the fuck is the internet? Every single movie that I could possibly do. The trailer for this one looks so intriguing.
We knew we were going back to the quick stop because the bottom of the end of Clerks too. I didn't realize until I watched Clerks one day how similar in beats were in Clerks too. I didn't put two and two together. I thought we were going in a color and we were going in a new venue that it would be a bit different.
It really isn't. It still has its fundamental points in it. Yeah, definitely got a better soundtrack. The soundtrack in Clerks too was so much better than this one.
I know I put music on before the podcast starts. I did struggle to find one that I fit the tone. I didn't use two videos. I put a 37-tick video in.
I put the video stop one where I don't appreciate your ruse. Hopefully that works. It looks good. It's quite a little bit of an interesting twist.
All the music for Clerks is very aggressive. Clerks too. As I said, with the colors and stuff, we'll get the Jackson's and stuff. I think the Jackson's and stuff.
I love that scene so much. I love that I put a dance routine in there. A lot of King Diamond is used in Clerks because that was their band. They're all metalheads.
To look at them, you wouldn't think that it is. But Walthand is a huge metalhead. And there's a song from King Diamond using Clerks too. Anytime one of us was grandma.
The other just starts like, what was it? I was like, what was it? I was like, what was it? I was like, what was it?
I love the fact that Elias is going to be back. I adore that character in the second one. But he does try and get people back. That's the thing.
He is very loyal. Kevin Smith is one of the few Hollywood types that I know everyone accuses himself of selling out. But to me, he hasn't always got straight. He's always been loyal.
And you can see that through the movies. And when he does build a relationship, I remember as I said, when he was looking for reboot, he was going back trying to get the same packs, like the two kids that he done the drug deal. Two, he got them back. He's like searching in to try and find them.
So again, it does callbacks, but he stays loyal. The people I know when they were trying to do Mollrats to again, all the people that it was involved in Mollrats were on board doing it, but then it didn't find its feet. But I think they said that makes him allrats to make some of the scripts being moved into. Because he changed Clerks to completely after he had the heart attack.
That was that was the big change. But I think a lot of the Clerks to him was a big change. That was that was the big change. But I think a lot of the Clerks to the script he said is going to be moved into Clerks three.
That's not a bad thing. I know there was a lot of I think those circumstances out of his control when it came to Mollrats two and suddenly Pastor Besh already became really sick. And so yeah, I think it was a lot of his controls. It probably makes sense to merge it into Clerks three where he can fit it in.
And I was going to say something about Elias and I've told you again. I'm sorry. I don't know. All of it's just Elias is us.
He's innocent. Yeah. And he's just there's just something that I just gravitated towards and I like it's maybe because he's a lot of the rings fan. That whole scene is just that's just me and you talking that one ring to rule them all.
One ring to find them and in the darkness. That's a fun about walking dudes get over it. But that conversation right there between Randall and Elias is exactly me and you talk. There's only one return and it's not of the King Beach.
I love it. I just love how he the one thing that I love about Kevin Smith is that he's only 50 so he still makes you feel okay to be who you are. Yeah. Nothing like for what like we are collectors.
We are nerds. We love our culture and we are hitting 40. Yeah. It's fine.
That's okay. Let's be honest. We do rip off Kevin Smith a lot for this part. We are.
If you ever do this, come on. We are going to warm so much shit. But I think we wouldn't do this. What we do now if it wasn't for Kevin Smith and being inspired by Kevin Smith is our nerd guru.
Yeah. I think we are going to be a little bit more like a fan of the creative. Like if I really could create a shrine for him, I would like everything that I've done creatively over the last 40, 50, 50, 50, 50, 50, 80 years. It's being solely based on the back of him.
And if you ever want to come on, some will make a 30, 80 if you want as well. Just in. Let's make sure my husband's not watching this, shall we? He never does anyway.
And I just, I don't want to say like I also much to him. I just, I'm always so inspired by him. And watching clerks today just made us realize just how brilliant that mind is. Yeah.
How quick. Because a lot of this stuff like you think it or if you're having that conversation, I think like after we finished, we called the podcast, I think I should have said this and I'll text you on kid. I forgot where I talked about this. But he doesn't.
Like if we ever did, like God forbid, if we ever did get him on the podcast, we mean he was not going to get word in. He's going to talk out of us. I'm just going to go yes, sir. No, sir.
Yes. Yes. All he'll but that's that's the thing. And having that mind and that work.
Work rate. Work ethic that he has. It's a great work ethic because he's not just a filmmaker. He's a podcaster.
