Higher power managed to make this episode happen. And because as of this weekend, dogma is 25 years old. Yes. And that makes us feel so old now.
Oh, does it. Oh, does it. And we did not we literally, you know, full disclosure, we did not plan to do this for the 25th anniversary. We just wanted to do it because it's one of our favorite films.
Yeah. And Paul messaged during the week and was like, did you know? Did you know? Did you know?
Did you know? It's the 25th anniversary this weekend. And I was like, shit. Okay.
We planned that well. Yes. But the reason why we did plan it is because we all have a big dough of cells. Overreached our ability to what we can do, what we can watch.
After we thought, like, see, we thought I'm not going to be easy to talk about an actor. After doing Robin Williams, we realized that it's not an easy process to go through in just one week. And to do it justice as well. That's the thing you couldn't.
I don't think I could do it justice for the time that we've had. No, especially with Sami having 79,000 podcasts guest on starring in showing her lovely face in and with the charity one coming next week. Yes. The charity stream you will be hearing a lot about this this week.
Twelve hours, 12 movies. So to get through all that and all of Goldie Horn's films in the two week period, it was just impossible. So yes, we looked around the nerd room and saw what caught on eye. And for some reason, Dogman Chum, I've got nothing really in Dogman here because we'll get into the commercial side of this movie as well.
But I've got nothing to do with Dogman here, but it just popped in my head. It was like the easy film, what could be an easy film to discuss? Yeah. And this is one of them.
And it was so easy to get a hold of. I thought Ants was taking the piss when I was like, oh, I'm going to have to find Dogman to watch. And it's like, it's on YouTube. And I didn't believe him.
So I looked everywhere else. And the last time I was like, cool. And I'll say it's on YouTube because Kevin Smith is put on YouTube. So it's not a case of people have done this.
He has done this. And I don't know. So I've heard two different reports on the rights of this movie. Yeah.
And the first one being Kevin has it back on the wine stains has it back. But I've heard Kevin say himself that another company has bought it. So they have the rights to it. But have Kevin very much close at hand.
So he can promote it again. He's taking it on tour again. He's doing Q&A's around it again. So I don't know which one is right.
And it's one of them. There's going to be he said, she said, I think if Kevin's coming out, that's the story from Kevin. I'll take that. Not as well, as the movie do it.
I'll tell that as gospel. But it's just exciting now. For Kevin Smith, because he's got a back category of movies. Like some are very much niche films.
Some people will love for nostalgia reasons. This is just a very like, I don't want to say about Kevin Smith's about director. He will never make a movie as good as this ever. Because this was kind of like in a bottle.
Perfect cast. Perfect. Like round of like the joke and around like the story and everything. And it had a shitty minute.
Yeah, I can't say it. I've been saying it to him. He had all morning to go golfing. Yeah.
And the dialogue in this is pure perfection of Kevin Smith. This is uber Kevin Smith dialogue script and it's perfect. The aesthetic is amazing. The cast is Alan Rickman.
What more can you say Alan Rickman is in this film? It's one of my mom's favorites. So that's got to say something because the woman don't do. This wouldn't be her kind of wheelhouse kind of thing.
But yeah. Before we get into the movie, I do have the taglines. I love a tagline and I really love these ones. And I've got a basic one, a new comic fantasy from the director of clerks and chairs near me.
This one get touched by an angel. Literally. Yep. It can be hell getting into heaven.
That's the one I've seen quite a lot. I think that was used on the DVD cover as well. So yeah, beer is a funny thing. This one prepared myself.
God. And the last one being look at the below. Again, a lot of things is quite on the nose. The final scene itself is literally them two taglines.
Is repair myself and look out below. Bodies are going to be smashing everywhere. I've got such a warm like spears in this movie, which again, it shouldn't be work. This should offend so many people because of the content.
I did. But if you look at it the way, so we're going to what happened before when the announcement was getting me. And the church went lost their shit. But it should be far even fucking seen it.
The hand they even seen it. No, this had petitions out of cinema. I think we'll stand now and see them doing a full father Ted. I'm down with this type of thing with the signs to the point where Kevin actually joined one of the petitions.
Yeah, he put you give them a false name and he went out with the picket sign and he protested. He's on movie. Yeah. I think his friend was there as well.
He meant he references quite a few times on his own podcast. And I'm sure his picket sign said dick is yummy. Yeah, not dick. Is that this one?
I can't remember because the same thing happens with Red State. But it was the Westboro Baptist Church who was the protesters on that one. And Kevin was very hands on with them as in, I'll have conversations with your I'll talk to you, but I'm not going to have you talk at me. And one of them who we had a conversation with was Megan Phelps.
And if you're familiar with the Westboro Baptist Church, she was the daughter of Shirley Phelps, who was the daughter of the leader. Megan left the church and cited Kevin as one of her inspirations in her own book on leaving because when he was having conversations with her, it started to make her question things. Yeah, because Kevin, like for all he makes good dick jokes. He is such an intelligent and impassionate speaker as well.
He'll never put this is why I love Kevin Smith. And again, people always make jokes and say like, just a fanboy, yes, I am a fanboy. I'm Kevin Smith, 100% simply because he is passionate. He will never share anything.
That's that's that's where we've kind of got the philosophy on the podcast, but we do is like, then if we joke around, but his, his one, man, he always says, people say, oh, you never see anything bad. We always say Kevin says this is beautiful. This is wonderful. Kevin prides up things.
He's good. Why would I waste me energy? Seeing some spot even though someone's put the work in and stuff like that, it's, it's not my job to tear them down. It's like someone's put the effort to tell that story.
But I bear it for me to say that shit. If someone else loves it, so I'll rather talk about what I love and what I'm passionate about than spending my energy saying what I hear and thing. Like it doesn't need that out there. And again, it's just a strip, like an absolute beautiful, like present like a message to give across because with the end, and I think it's quite powerful as well because the internet is such, is probably the most used tool across the world now to get information.
Like the information, like what people couldn't get, they can get within 30 seconds and stuff like that, even quicker. If you use like EI and stuff now, which to me is just amazing. So why put so much bad stuff out there? That's already there.
You can add a little bit of good. Exactly. And that's why I think it kind of like it just felt natural for us not to go in and shit on something because if the influence he has on us, and it's such a good influence to have on and in such a way, honestly, it's a ray of sunshine and watching him, my favorite, one of my favorite reactions of his is when he watched the Flash final. And he is literally from start to finish, Southern, that is fandom at its purest.
And I am all for fandoms, even if I am not a part of them or even know anything about them, I still love the passion that you see come out of fandoms. And he just honestly does it perfectly. And he's never a dick. No, never.
You've never seen him be rude to anyone. You've never seen him like kind of put anyone down. Like his interviews, he always likes to talk. It's hard to get an interview with Kevin because he asked him one question and 45 minutes later, he still has got the answer because he's done you have about 15 million different stories.
Yes. Yeah. So you know, thought bubble, the comic book convention that we have over here, when it was locked down, they got Kevin Smith for an interview, which was big. So you didn't for all, they have these huge names like Warren Ellison, Jimmy McCallery, like, you know, he has the one who've been there in the past.
Kevin was a big name. And she got one question out. Yes. One question and he just he ran with the whole thing.
But it was perfect. It was P. with Kevin. No, and I would just love to like, because I know you can go to Elliot, where you just like the fat man podcast, you can go in the container and like tickets to like witness and stuff as well.
Yeah. I don't know if I can do that because I would just like melt and be on the floor more sometimes. But yeah, he is probably, yeah, there's probably two people on my bucket list that if we have got anywhere with the podcast or got to a level where we could just say have anyone was like Kevin Smith and Sean asked them. Then would be my two on my bucket list.
And I think I say once I've interviewed him, I don't think I would be able to go on any further because I don't think anything we do act that would be better. That's just the peak. Yeah. It's the end of it all.
And even totally even with these cast, so we had a thing. See, that's not the beautifully with him. And he is rubbing himself up against the mic. So sorry about that, and even his cast members saw what's Bethany's really only him.
The woman who played Bethany. Linda, I can't pronounce her son about it. Let's call her Linda. Well, she, they too had a very strange relationship in this movie, incredibly strange.
And she was very difficult to work with in, you know, in what he said. He wished he cast, um, Jeanine Grafelau. He always had a regret about not casting Jeanine Grafelau as Bethany as the main star. And because of our behavior, like he didn't have a good experience.
And he made that very known in, you know, past interviews. When he had his heart attack, he had a complete reflection on his whole life. And he rang her up and you apologize for everything you said. She apologized for her behavior.
And said she learned a lot from that experience. He learned a lot from it. And they, they buried the hatches. So it's like a sweet moment as well.
Because yeah, you can, there's definitely a change to Kevin Smith's like pre-heart attack and after heart attack. Like definitely like not just looks wise, but his whole philosophy on like filmmaking life. Because that's when he just basically took everything as like a second chance. And he just went, I'm not going to go out with this when he dealt and stuff.
And he just did anything he fucking wondered. Yeah. And he ran a lot of, like, getting him a car. He was another one.
They had a really bad experience from an audition that she did. And he, she was another phone call. He just, he recognized that maybe not everyone else is the problem. Yeah.
Maybe I have a part to play in this. And that's a very, and quite a small thing to think. Yeah. Because everyone kind of like even in small like friendships or thing, you've got to have self reflection.
Like, again, I do that quite a lot. Not saying I'm like a holly of them now. Where I try not to blame other people or like for anything, I don't know, again, Dr. Hartback when I was with moved on and left out, like part of the, the nearly old North saga.
Well, behind, but for still, I still reflect back and say, even though Sammy, Jake and all the others tell us off for doing it, what could I have done differently? Is anything I could have personally done to stop preventing some happening or things from escalating to the level of things. So again, it would have been very easy for me just to go on. Everyone else is a ticket.
I'm perfect. I am Lord and Savior, cult leader. No one can question me. And roughly like throughout the experience with nearly up north as well.
And again, people can tell us I'm wrong or something. I hope I always do come across as easy to come to, easy to talk about, easy to deceive, to grieve like certain things as well. Because as I said, it's a collaborative effort. And actually going forward as well, like, I know me and Sammy's always in communication.
But hopefully we will be more collaborative and more moving forward in directions like that again in the future. Yeah, going back all school, the old D, three nearly four years ago. Yeah. Time to wrap up and give up that link.

No, me too. Cause I'm starting to fucking think of this. We have gone back to Dogmond though, because I'd say 1999. Like, say this was just on the coast of the day.
Your I left school. Yeah. On the cusp of turning over the 2000s. What, like again, even at the start, this shows you the level of humour or the level of what we were going to get from this movie.
Because to have like the black screen, white writing basically giving you like, say an informational like what to expect. This is a joke. This door plays dawn. Say this seriously.
It mocks the plot of us. Then another screen comes in and says, I do apologise for the plot of us. Basically saying that if God didn't have a sense of humour, look at the plot of us. And then he's like, okay, all the plot of us is enthusiastic based.
Yeah. That's one of my mum's favourite. This is what got my mum when watching this film is reading that open entitled and just to talk back to 1989. Can you remember when you watched it?
Because I remember the day I watched it. I can't remember the day I remember it was day by day. I didn't say it in the cinema. I think.
I don't think I had a cinema on it. Over the day I never heard of it. Don't we've got a cinema over the run? I'm sure of it.
Because that was one of the few ones I got released in the cinema. I'm sure. Because I know more of us didn't in the UK. It was on vidit for your chances.
When I went on the dark, I got released. Because I had that like I was in advertisements. But when I watched Dogma, was when I was at college. Because I watched more of that first and I went back and watched Clerks.
Then I'm sure this was probably after I watched Chasing Amy. But then the big release was Jane Sandoval Schreicke. Because that was the one that was the cinema release as well. Right.
I remember being at a friend's house and I was going through my, because this is the year I left school. And I was going through my learning stages of music of movies. You know, trying to. Not everything is Ghostbusters, all train places.
And this. I was having like sexual awakening. Somebody just had a film awakening. Yeah.
It was like I just had an education in movies. But yeah, it would be friends. And I don't know which came first if we'd watch Mollrat's first. But it was on a copy TV.
It was on a copy VHS. It was pirate. And yeah. Yeah.
That was one of them people. Probably judging up north in the 90s. And we sat and watched it and I instantly was like, I just need to take this tip with me and never ever let it go. This is going to stay up to me for the rest of me.
Like yeah, it was, it was, it was an awakening. To how different movies can actually be, how clever dialogue can be, how educational it could be. Because there is a lot of truths in the, I always thought some, and I was thinking about the same day on rewatch, but somehow I explained to the Gogothan when it comes out, she goes into a lot of detail. But if you don't know it, you don't know him.
No. So I've, like, I've totally, I always used to think that his dialogue in this movie was just too over-explaining it. Like you're explaining too much. But a natural fact, if you don't know all these references, you won't get this movie.
No. I think with Kevin, he knows how to tell a story within 90 minutes or around about that point. And this is probably one of his longer ones. So it's a little bit longer than normal.
And it does feel like that because not to do the service to the movie, it is a slog when you do watch it because of how weighty and how much dialogue you do get in this movie. Because the eye explaining, like, say quite powerful or strong subject matter, to kind of like not give us that like, feelings or give us like, say the explanations behind it all wouldn't have the same punch. Like when the movie starts, like you've got a low-key in Bathwellerview, which is not demon in Ben Affleck in the airport. And Matt Damon's character is talking to a nun.
And basically trying to destroy your fear, or test their fear, which I always say. No, he destroyed it. He peer-run destroyed her face. Especially when she's like, what am I doing with my life?
What am I doing? And then you've got Ben Affleck's Bathwellerview, who's like a watcher at Angel. Because Loki is like, say the angel of death. He had the fiery sword and he brought all the different plagues that God created onto Earth.
And Ben Affleck's Bathwellerview is like the watcher. And he's just like, you've been in the presence of God. You know God exists. Why are you fighting with these clergy?
And Matt Damon's just laughing away at us. And yeah, like the front of the clergy, just to see the crack. Yeah, pretty much. It was brilliant to have them too.
Like obviously their chemistry is palpable. It's magic because they are the best of friends. And I don't know why, but looking at Ben Affleck on the picture, you know, he looks like Luke Perry. Right.
I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry. I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry. I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry. This was peak of my Ben Affleck crush.
Yeah. Honestly, this is the starting point. This is an Armageddon. And I remember my folder for God.
I had just before I started college, I'd been to Florida. And I'd come back with a load of supplies, like ready to start college, because I'm trying to be trying to start afresh and getting out of my shit, shit, show of a school. And I had an American style folder where it was like, you know, it's like, you see them in the movies all the time. So it's like a folio thing and it had.
Poppits and whatnot. Ben Affleck was plastered right on the front of it. Yeah. Affleck was the bomb?
Affleck was the bomb and found him. Yes. And the amount of slogans that I've gotten out of this movie that I still probably used to do. It's, I think, because I know, rather than like, tell the whole movie, because everyone, I've watched it all the third of it.
It's quite like a philosophy. The philosophy, kind of, you've probably said that to me. Flossing. Yeah.
Yeah. Right. It's quite a meaningful thing. Yeah.
Yeah. That one. And because it's about like all about God's, like God's not will, what God sees and he can't be proven wrong. So he's infallible.
And if you prove God is wrong, busy, it just busy time, like everything in existence kind of unravels, because everything is kind of hinged on, God being right. Which again, is quite a simple premise. But when you come to like all the day steps and how you've got these two angels, that's been sent a message, because they've been cast away from heaven for disobeying or questioning God, even slightly. Yeah.
But Loki threw down his fiery sword. Yes. Because God was going through a vengeful time. Loki was his little soldier.
And both of you talked him around into being peaceful. And, you know, we don't need to do this. So Loki threw down his fiery sword and God just went get the fuck out. And interesting fact, that's just coming to my head.
Jason Lee, who plays Azriel, was meant to be Bartholomew. Right. Okay. It was written for him.
But Jason Lee had another prior engagement. So that's why you don't see him as much in this film. And why you got a smaller part, but that was meant to be his role. Yeah.
Oh, interesting. Because I can't see, it probably is due to what you mentioned before, the chemistry between Math, Demon and Ben Affleck. Like it's a perfect tool because when we first meet them, Math, Demon's Loki is the Arsenal, Angel and Ben Affleck's kind of like the sweet one, a nice one. And part of the other movie, they do a switch.
Yeah. And it's all natural. Yeah. It's such a natural switch between the two of them that you can see his resentment building up the more his plan is like, seated in the back of his brain.
It starts to get where he starts unraveling. And then Math starts going, oh shit, no, like, he starts tying back up again. That's the easiest way to describe it. Unravel, tying back up.
But with anything that deals with Kevin Smith, like the abundance of characters or like, let's say Kevin's friends, that's throughout this movie as well, it's hilarious. But it works so well. I know Bethany's character, when she gets introduced, she works in like an abortion clinic, which again, if you talk about God, and especially with the tones and everything, that's all running right in America now, it's quite on topic, shall we see her? And her faith has been tested, but she's like the last scion of, I think that's right, last sign, is that right?
She is the great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great niece of our Lord and Savie Jesus Christ. Yes. So, Bissie, if this was a Da Vinci Gordon movie, she would have been in that crowd of people at the end of the Da Vinci Gordon spoiler. Yeah.
And she's a difficult character, isn't she? Yeah. And I don't know if this comes down to, you know, her difficulty on set, but she certainly is a, she's very complex. Yeah.
It's hard to like. Yes. That's the, yeah, you're right. Really hard to get on the back of, which is really, which is great.
It's that she's not just the main star, her, she has a support and cast around her. And my one great with this movie is Chris Rock. Right. And I usually don't have a problem with Chris Rock, but his delivery on the lines is so forced.
It's almost like cringy to listen to. Something about, I can't, and I've never been able to get away with Chris Rock on this film, even though I would never say that about any other Chris Rock. He fits in them perfectly, but in this world, it's too much. Yeah.
I think it works really well when he's having like a tit and tat with James Sandoval, like when they're going at each other, like it's like almost like Chris Rock stand up versus James Sandoval being James Sandoval. But when he's like delivered the emotional, because he's got like, same emotional message, and he's got important messages as well. But it doesn't feel natural. Like when you've got Alan Rickman as an angel and drinking tequila and spitting tequila out, it's one of the most breath-thick.
And Alan Rickman has done so many good things and so, he's so impressive in everything he does. And this is just so natural. And you can tell he's having fun with it as well. Yeah.
Apparently he was really annoying on set. Right. So the maracas. Right.
He didn't get rid of them. And he kept them all the time, and he would always have them in his back pocket. So he was always making a noise with these maracas to the point where the whole cast and crew were like, we need to get them off him. But you write it like Kevin has talked about at length, the dynamic with Alan Rickman on set, because this is huge for Kevin's.
This is a dream cast and you never think you're going to get. That Alan Rickman is going to be in your movie. And when it happens, Kevin is just elated. Jason Muse is the one who really was affected by this.
Kevin's a muse in spald. Hey, I got it. No, it's not. It's Kevin.
Kevin put the pressure on Jason to say, you need to perform it your best. This is Alan fucking Rickman. Like, come on, it's time to do it. Pull yourself together.
The best thing that we haven't described this as well, because I think it was one of like an even with Kevin. So I think he pulled Kevin, Jason, aside a few of the years before he went, look, we can knock on a feature lines like we did in Clerks or like in the other movies. We've got a professional British, because he is the word British act. Alan Rickman, you know what these British people are like.
They are ultra professional. If you fuck this up, he's got a fucking killer. He put the fear of God in Jason's. So not only did Jason Mews member his lines, he remembered the whole fucking script for every single character.
So like the worst part of it, for Kevin afterwards, leading up to Alan Rickman getting there, Jason Mews would read everyone else's lines while at all. Yeah, Jason memorized everything. And this is one of the rare movies, early movies of Kevin Smith, where Jason is sort of, and because obviously, Jason, James, Bob, he is fucked up. Not beyond repair, because he does go into rehab afterwards, but you can definitely clearly see a difference.
But in this one, 100% sober. Yeah. Had to be, because he was so fucking terrified of this big English actor. But it sure was, this is peak Jason Mews.
This is, and I'm not, I love Jason Mews, and I love listening to these recovery stories, because this guy has been through the fucking mill his whole entire life. It's not just, oh, he got a bit of fame and everything got fucked up. This starts well before that, where his life just went into a downward spiral. And I love Jason as he is now, but this Jason right here is how I like to remember him.
Yeah, because when you see the, like the problem is with this movie, hopefully now, as I said, with the rights changed, and all of it, we'll get more stories, more things, like extras, because we get very little, because if you try now to get a dog, a blue ray or a dog, a dog, a day to day, it's very difficult to get your hands on, because of where, where, where, the situation and like the problems that they had to do it. Like, Kevin, the hell, the hell that runs them, pretty much. Yeah, every time Kevin wanted to make a movie, he was like, okay, well, well, not Kevin didn't want to make a movie. Every time they wanted Kevin to make a movie for them.
They're like, okay, we'll give you a dog, but if you make a movie in this movie. And I think with the experience he had a cop out, Kevin decided that he didn't want to do anyone else's stuff. He just only wanted to have fun, or if he worked on like, say the script and stuff, or direct episodes of The Flash, because he knew that stuff better thing, but yeah, he didn't want to make movies that he didn't have full control of it, or even like, like right, and kind of left us out with Jason. And that was kind of like Miramax's, or the background change in the game.
Basically, seeing her, we've got Dogma, if you wanted to work with us, if you wanted one access to this baby, don't you've got to do this? And they never thought that. So you've got to give Kevin these crops for that. 100%.
They've kept this movie ransom for 25 years. We will now, because of, like I said, at the beginning, I've heard two sides of who owns it. It could be Kevin, or it could be another company who have very much involved Kevin in his movie again. But either way, you are going to have Q&A sessions with him, with Jason, anyone else can get his hands on, where you are going to learn so much more about the process of this movie, because you know Kevin, he'll tell you the back end of everything.
And but yeah, I think we'll see a lot more now, the rights are away from the devil. Yeah, because they literally were with the devil. Film is like, oh, the reason of going as well is like, well you watch all these films, like you got all these hot ladies, I'm gonna use the words that they are used. And you see all these like, just losers, that's pulling out of scenes. We don't want to think we can tap some of that.
Except John Nelson, who is the king. So, John Nelson's the boy. John Nelson's the boy. Yeah, John Nelson's the boy.

It's how he smiles. And every time he comes on scene, you hear, I want to believe it's a Swamal August, but it's something like, there's something around him from every time you come on. And I love that his character is so, he like, he hears hell so much. He's an ex muse, who then becomes a demon.
And he hears hell so much, he'd rather see the world who out of existence than to go back to it again. Well, that gives you the question though as well. If you were a demon, like not in that you're not somebody, because you are the mistress of Terramones after all, and would you be happy in hell, or would you want to see existence and so you can get out of like the hell all that, that you live in? Hmm.
Growing up, I always said to people, if if if if they held us with a damned, then how would it be so bad to them? If they are damned to people, why would hell be so terrible for them to live in? Because they are, they're in the place where they where they are, where they are, where they are deserving. I'd rather go and I'd rather take me chances in hell.

Now I purely believe because they do say that he takes a human form or she takes a human form to go and play a ski ball. Maybe that human form inhibits him from being able to use God powers. And he has to die to go back to being God. Potentially, but he didn't die.
He went to a corner. Yeah, but that's when because when she goes to the hospital, she turns off the life support. The life support and God comes, God comes, but he dies, the human form dies, but she comes out. Yeah.
So she possibly without being debilitated on the floor, could not get out of the human form in order to be able to use the God like powers. Yeah. So I'm left in the state of not alive, totally in that corner. Yeah.
And then as soon as she passed over, that's where she got real and Lana Smore said jumps out. Who was meant to be, God, it wasn't Lana Smore said. It was somebody else. Oh, I didn't know that.

And just have a like, silent, just walking around boog and people. Well, she was the voice of the voice of the generation. She's the voice of the 90s. And then for it to be completely silent.
It was perfect. There is so many cast members we have completely forgotten. It was Emma Thompson. All right.
