And I'm the host Paul and we're kicking off our festive season. That's the best episode of the Nelly of North host. We're trying to be all Christmassy and shit. Yeah, we haven't done a really has gone all over the head.
Yes, we are starting our festive season. At least trying to anyway. Here's the season to be jolly. So yes, we are trying to say anything by the lovely Donna and the amazing Michael.
I'll give you first name so I feel like he's in trouble. Who's not the I don't like that. Did a bad list. But yes, they are joining us tonight to talk about what I read the other dear has been voted the UK is number one favorite Christmas movie.
And how do you feel about that? Well, I think we're going to do that in a bit. Given that that's what it is. So it's all about is the film that really defined childhood and really made you want you to have burglars in your house.
I don't know about one of our burglars in the house. I wanted to try some tricks. This is insane. It's a Sami's mindset.

I watch the Santa Claus two this week. All right. Have you not watched the Santa Claus three? No, because I want to watch the series.
Yes, the new show is still going on each week or has it come to its climax yet? I don't know. I haven't started yet. I've just had to watch the movies first and then I've seen them all the times, but I won't know what's on again.
Yeah, that's another one. Like it's one of them once where the first and second one actually are on power hell got DR as well with the Christmas movies. And I always get to mix up because there's two Santa Claus movies, but there's Santa Claus and then there's the 1985 Dudley Moore one. So yeah, so the same names, but yes, so very good.
I bought that a few years ago on DVD, the Angeline Moore one and it was I was saying. Was it the day they was I was like, you know, you can change it. They played a to change. Think about it.
I had no idea. I should have been. I didn't know actually that the new Tim Allen one was a series. I thought it was a film.
Yeah, it's it's the Sunday. I've got the time now with the name. This was like a kind of a player son and I think so he's actually auditioning for a replacement. So he's going into retirement, I think.
I think that's the premise. But I've been watching it yet. I'll be more focused on Will, which has been for phenomenal. Like I was surprised how good this show is.
I like Will or the film, but I'm not a huge Will or fun. Like I was when I was a kid. But this feels like a live action dungeon and dragons game and stuff like that. So it's really entertaining.
But I recommend it. I think it's only about three or four episodes out so far. Oh, I'd love to get on it. I didn't think you'd do that because when it comes to fantasy and you I just can't tell.
I can't. But I'm quite shocked. Yeah, it's definitely better on other rings. So I can't do that.
What about goodwill? What have you been watching? I've beenched Wednesday. Yes.
First two minutes. I instantly fell in love with it. Finished it on a Wednesday. So I was like, personal goal.
After that, I binged season 13 of Archer because Archer is just one of my favourite animated shows of all time. And then because of it has been absolutely crap and I'm not being able to do anything, I've just laid in bed, playing Harry Potter and catching up on Wheeler Deeeless because I'm a saddle that likes to restore cars. There's nothing wrong with that. So we've got new stuff going on, sitting in bed playing with his wand.
So you heard it first. Good, Will. Is it the new Harry Potter game? No, he was on PlayStation Plus for free.
It was the leg all Harry Potter game. All right. Okay. Well, I want to get through then before Hogwarts.
What's your Hogwarts legacy? Yeah. Isn't it only coming out next gen or that's the thing? Yeah, PlayStation 5.
And then at the end of the year, it comes out on Switch. They ended next year. Oh, we've got a pre-ordered and everything. So it's a good little on the spot as well.

I've been trying to think about it. I know we really want to start that it in what you watch. Yeah, we really want to start that. There's loads of things I want to start.
And I just had to really don't have the motivation at the minute. And I did start there like dead to me. Dead to me. Yeah.
And I kind of watch the first episodes and then that's it. Like I really have to be in the mood. I watch two films over the last, like with other actually days as well. I watch Smile, finally caught up and got on with that.
It is basically just a more violent version of it follows. Right. Just to change the premise from sleep with someone to give the curse away to another premise, which I'm not soil for anyone who wasn't saying it. But it was good.
The idea was brilliant, but it just was purely executed, which a lot of horror films are these days. And I watched one. I think it was called A Tower of Free Form or something like that. It's about minimal tasks.
These like say, start off two girls and a guy and the kind of rock face and the guy falls and dies. It turns out you want to go to the husband's and the girls going through like a really bad time. Like it's a year later and should know what to do in a life and a friend's kind of going off being crazy. Like YouTuber doing all these amazing things.
And to try and get out of this funk that proposes to climb this tower in America, that's it's based on a real tower, but it's completely fictional. But it's 200, 2000 meters high. Oh, straight. It's like 82 rifles, how is high?
And like say, we're going to climate. So the like say, you'd have repist your young idiots and the climate and then the lot of that kind of breaks off and they get to stop up there. And it's quite enclosed and makes the relationship unravels and stuff like that. But the whole height thing and like sentimental game was it was brilliant to watch.
But it had that Jeffery Dane Morgan in for like a couple of seconds in as one of the fathers. So we're talking. So, um, it was like weird having him in it, but only in it for like a fleeting moment and not really having much impact. So it's kind of like just having him in for the MMC.
If that makes sense. Yeah. Just like the Blu-ray call that way. Just a more good.
And he's just like, you second. I did I'm sorry. I just remembered I did watch something I watched back Adam on Friday. And I did not enjoy it.
I know you were disappointed. I can think it was too bad. I thought it ticked the boxes and did a stop. There was some redeeming qualities in it.
And Pete Rosin, excuse me, Epi is Rosin was absolutely phenomenal. The rock was really good. I can't knock what he did. He played a brilliant pop of a some reason halfway through.
I just I was like, I'm not feeling this at all. I think it's moving way too fast for us. And the action was really good. Like I said, it was redeeming qualities in it, but I just was not feeling it.
And I never be like an asset through Aquaman and found good parts in that. Yeah, I would. That's one thing I want to go talk about as well, because his news coming out, because James Gunn is this kind of just a lovely copy of it. I'm on this now.
And he says, one of them is big dick in front of everyone. So I can do what I want to do. Everyone really is. He's talking about these tall patties Jenkins.

James Gunn, it's sort of come out and just went, look, you're good at this. You're kind of not good at this. So how about you just meet his in the middle? No, right.

Sorry. What's going on with the Aquaman sequel? It's coming out. They'll bring it out.
But the knock, I think that the stage now, the can release the film because it's pretty much done. It's not going to be like a back back of situation because that was going to go to stream and that wasn't going to cinema. This one is getting a cinema release. So the will release that film.
I think the starting point is going to be blue. I think that's going to be the starting point and go from there because he's supposed to be very excited about blue. And we'll probably see characters that we've never seen in DC, which there's going to be very exciting. As I said, with a small character like a piece of the game, I think that James Gunn did there.
He could pick up any character I feel like was less unknown. Like imagine if he got these hands on Tron Constantin. Just a chase. I just got chills thinking about.
Do you think that James Gunn is the John Favreau and Dave Filoni of DC, where they've come in and allegedly just got Mandalorian? Yeah, snap it. Oh, what this one? Yeah, I've gone was.
Yeah, no, but they've smashed it out the park and I think James Gunn is DC's savior for that franchise. Oh, absolutely. I believe it is. Anyway, I think if you look at his back history as well, the model have completely fucked up this situation as well, just the way the handle James Gunn.
Then I've gone back to finish Guardians 3 because that was his baby. That's how he wanted it to end because it did pretty much say I've got him like to work with Kevin Feigen, done this thing because what he gave us with the Guardians is like, he's taken out of the MCU or the Avengers world and stuff like that. As a standalone, it is probably the best storytelling that we've had. Literally only MCU from I'm looking forward to.
Even the Christmas special was at the end, which I wasn't expecting. It was just so much fun. But that's what James Gunn is so good at is taking the Guardians up until the point of the first trailer. Nobody had a fucking clue.
Nobody had a clue of who these people were and he's managed to create or put onto screen. It's family. I always see that film as family and he's so fucking good at it. And then, please make a...
And hopefully, if we get people to bed or pay money to don't have one, we can get the piece to make a dance for Christmas. Oh, I just put it down there now. Just like say, get the peer pressure in guys. Like say, everyone get the vorts.

I am just on the computer right now because I generally can't remember. I thought it was 90s. I think it was 1990. It was 1990.
Right, okay. I guess I thought I was a lot younger when I first watched this. There's an 80s film. This one is actually 1990s.

And we all sat down and it was just about to start and the police and the bomb squad team in IRA bombs. We had to leave. And yeah, the Metro Center was going through a lot of bomb scares at the time. And yeah, we were actually, so I really think that I may have seen this at form.

I vividly remember watching it in December 1997 when I was a wee little nipper at the age of nine. Did you have to have some tips back then as well? No, I had ginger my head. Are you fun or easily?

Yeah, so it's December 1997 and I vividly remember it because my grandmother very rarely laughed. And this was the only film where she not only laughed, she hysterically laughed all the way through the last half of the film. And there was tears down in first. And even till they stay now at the tender age of 80, she will still hysterically laugh.
Well, a little fast. And that cemented it and then it became every year a traditional film to watch her Christmas because no matter how many times you watch it, you still laugh. Because there's always that one thing that goes, yeah, that's not so familiar. Yeah, very fond of me.
So, no, it was a fun of like random violence. But I was given out to by youngsters to that beer. But I was trying to really understand that. Well, I love that story.
I love that story. I don't know if you just sing your smile on your face or you don't know that was cute to wear a dresser. I'm sorry, I called your run on the music. You saw it.
I love that. What about Donna? When were you when you were first seen this? I can't remember when I first seen it.

And it's like the movie start coming on telling. It's always on the summer for some reason as well. Yeah, it is. It gets put on Netflix in the summer.
To be fair, I'm not going to do it on Christmas. I can't do it. I physically can't do it. I can't watch any Christmas film that has to be December.
Even though I've not watched any at all this year. But no one home alone has to be. It is a lead up film and it has to be before Christmas Eve. So me, I don't know if it was the second or third pirate video I actually watched.
This one was like saying, we never actually owned the pirate copy for this one. The other is the date. I think the first one was the turtles and the second one was Jurassic Park. The past has been going through the circulation, because we got to that's a lot of watches.
But I remember the dad coming in. I was just like a Sunday or Saturday. I was just chilling. Nothing to do.
And he just put this video on. I think it works. Talk about this. I've learned it off me mates.
So watch it. And I just thought he saw the house coming in. But it was one of the ones where they had the trailers on before as well. And then when video was three, chess has just have two trailer before.
Like, so you used to watch them. But I can't remember the film before. Like, see me mines went blank on them. It might be like, they'll do something like that, but not 100%.
But I just remember that I'd still assume that you can probably see her in the background now. And the house come together and I was like, what the fuck is this? I can't use. Like, what's happening here?
And then, like, see as soon as you see the house and the family and then the chaos reens. And it's just like, see it entertaining from start of finishing. The cast in this as well. Like, say the cast, like, four, like, a less than one film.
Like, say this wasn't a big release. Like, I can't remember, like, any cinema of trailers or courses or anything. This is when the ones that when it hit VHS, it blew up and went absolutely massive. It was like one of the biggest VHSs I've ever wanted.
I don't want to form a long and VHS. Yeah, totally. The cast, just before we jump into the cast, the director himself, who is Chris Columbus, who was the director of Harry Potter. One, two and three.
Ah, there you go. There's a Harry Potter connection. And Chris Columbus has done, like, say one step. I don't remember.
I think he got this because of a film that he was given before he couldn't handle. I can't remember now. So it was kind of like, he was directing a film and had to take him off it. So John Hughes gave him this one.
He was like, it's probably right because John Hughes, like, apprentice, like, he's brought his ear. But I've just looked at his calibre of work and, wow, like, he was a Delphi. Eventually the baby's sitting at Harry Potter's the whole Malone's. Like, he's done some good work.
Oh, no, Chris Columbus is massive. I remember him starting up. Like, I think it was on like the movies that made us when, like, say one of the films that I told you about was from the long, the interview. And he was basically meant to be direct in another John Hughes film with a big, like, with a cast.
And he wasn't going to get on with the cast, I think. So the moved him off that instead, right? I've got this little thing for you to try called Home Alone. And that's what, like, see, it was his first big movie before.
But again, I can't remember the film. Was it something I'm trying to find it now? It wasn't saying I'm on fire, was it? I can't remember.
No, I don't think so. It wasn't that, like, but it just had lots of clashes. Like, um, but like, as you said, that's the thing, things would happen for a reason as well. And, like, as you said, with a cast like Catherine O'Hare, I will hire a sorry, Joe Pesci.
Even the amazing John Candy was in it as well, even though he was supposed to be a pain in the arse to work with his. Well, that's the reason why he's not even going to go to this book. John Candy is actually not credited in this film at all, because he worked for No Pay. Yeah.
He did it as a favour, so he's not actually credited in it. But I have heard that John Candy was a nightmare on this, but I think it was more fun nightmare than it was actual nightmare for Ghostbusters. No, it was kind of like everything he wanted to be involved with. He just had so many ideas.
And that's probably the colour of person he was. He just, like, he was supposed to be just a small little part in the band, and then bought the music. He kicked an ad-libbing and adding stuff and, like, the cast might not just break him down laughing with him and stuff like that. So, yeah.
Yeah, there is a scene with him in Catherine O'Hare in the back of the band where you can see how tightly pursed her lips are, because she's trying to harden us not to laugh. She looks so serious in the scene, but I think she is just trying to keep it together, because it's where he hands the flute on the car and head. That's what I'm thinking. He's like, play along!
I've just seen that. He did all of his scenes in one day, and it was a 23-hour day. That's insane. I was trying to find what movie, um, Crystal Enbus was taking away from us.
I can't believe I'm 23 hours. Yeah, he was a master of these craft. He was brilliant. But, like, say anything that he did, it was a high-lapse.
Like, I don't think there's a bad John Candy film out there, like, if there is, don't show us it, because it'll break me out. Oh. Oh, yes. Um, as I was said before, like, just before I read somewhere that this has been voted the UK is not the world's.
The UK is a favourite Christmas film. I would like, is that just because of, like, our sense of humour more than anything else? So, like, why would you say that would be the case? Well, I generally thought we had a decent, not only sense of humour, but we weren't as strict until we did the turtles episode and realised how much we couldn't face the that.
So, um, I don't know. I just think from start to finish, there's nothing in this that's offensive. It's fun. It's funny.
I don't think there's anything in there that you can't pick a scene and go, oh, don't like that. Oh, this doesn't work. Because it all works. It's all around...
It could be. It could be the British people's, um, classical of a slapstick comedy. Oh, yeah. But also, um, Home Alone has that, um, timeless multi-generational quality where father, son, grandmother, granddad, come all this other round and just laugh at the one single movie.
You don't have to, you know, it's just so... What's the word? It's so, um... Innocent.
It's so innocent, but it's appealing to... A universal appeal. Yeah, it's universally, it's got a universal appeal. And I think because it was heavily, obviously in the mid 90s as well, it was heavily ran on terrestrial TV, which, you know, four channels up then to five.
Yeah. Well, we did it. Now that's what's on. Yeah.
Shout out to Spice Girls Pro and Channel Five. But when you are... When you are, you know, when Home Alone's on, he's like, oh, yeah, let's watch Home Alone. You can just hold that around as a family.
And I think it is one of the last films that you could all gather around as a family and watch and all love and all enjoy together. It's also one of those films that you can put on at any point and still watch it. You don't have to go back to the beginning. You can just watch it from that point.
I don't think Beth took part in the study of the most favourite UK Christmas film by the US. Yeah, I love making it up for that, because I know it's shit. It's like, sorry Beth. It's not gonna be the episode for you, love it.
It may not be love. You know, it's kind of like, carry on films where everyone here loves them, but it's like a full family version of it. And it kind of shows the chaotic life of people that you're like, they're running at school and everything like that. And the mug, read piece and all that stuff.
It just shows your chaotic life at the beginning of it. It's like very, like, carry on everybody. It loves carry on films. And then when you can show your kids.
That's true. I do think, like, as you said, it deals with real family issues and stuff. If you've got a big family, it's like the whole argument with the pizza and stuff like that. And getting up and on with your siblings and being picked on for being, makes it a small and all-in-a-loud one as well.
So it does resonate to a degree, like say that, like, I'll end up. One question before we do, because I'll talk about how the movie changes. One thing I did realize, like, say when you watch this movie back, it's not one of the ones that's age-bout of lee, or anything. I just said, there's no offense of anything, anything offensive in.
It's fun. It's like hearted. It's very violent. We'll get them to a good thing.
Why have they tried to remake it or keep doing it so many times after when it didn't need to be done? If that makes sense, because I know the data, I know I put the data, like, I say, remake last year for Disney Plus, which was good, awfully bad. And again, I don't like slitting things, because I love the people that was involved, like actresses and actors who were in it. Like, some of my favorite comedians are commonly actors in this day.
Like, the American Rob something he was brilliant in catastrophe. Like, say, they had an Irish last doing an English, a Pushing English accent, which was just so bizarre. And the most annoying kid that was just, like out of Joe Joe Rabbit, but he was just so irritating and nothing like all about it as well. It was actually a lot of fun.
Didn't they have a tagline to be? It was even the tagline for the film was just a fuck you to the Hormelorn fans. Wasn't it something like some traditions are meant to be broken or something like that? I think so, I...
Cheeky bastards. I just wanted to deck off. Oh, it was unwatchable. We got about half an hour and I just went that.
And I'm not one. I think I've only ever turned one film off halfway through, and that was Dr. Doo Little Rob with Nor. Sure luck with Robert Downey Jr.
Fuck, Marvel. I couldn't, I could not sit and watch it. It was absolutely atrocious. I generally feel that when it comes to films like Hormelorn.

But not just a remake. There's, I think there's been four sequels. Like, actual from different ones. It's Hormelorn, Hormelorn 2, Hormelorn 3, and Hormelorn 4.

Cause Hormelorn 3 came out in like very close to Hormelorn 2, didn't it? Like two, three years after? Yeah, that's when the director of EHS though. Yes, it's when it's straight at David.
Anything star coming out, it was like with the American churning out all the straight at David. He's like, Stiffler's Moms of venture and stuff like that. That was kind of big, the big Chris. But yes, that's the thing.
To me, the canon version of Hormelorn 1 and 2. Yeah, that's the one I was saying, like the Kevin story. Now, let's start with Kevin story. Cause as you said, that house.
That house. And I know we always do up as well. Like what did Kevin's dad do? What I would love to know.
But apparently he was in an episode of the Soperano's as a mother group cop. As a group cop. So you need to have a drug lord on Eftore, Thompson? He's in Chicago.
