glad to live and hopefully I'm not sounding like a demon. I hope not, but hi everyone, and oh welcome to the Nadioth North podcast. It's Nadi podcast that is hosted by her Northern nerds. I am one of your hosts Sam.
And I am the other host Paul. And as you can see, we're joined by a very special guest tonight. Yes, he's come. Well, special is definitely a word I would use.
And he has came all the way down that highway from the Deja zone. We have not Maverick, not the Iceman. We've got Lee. So, hi Lee.
Hi, Paul. Can't be here. You've been here for speed, yeah. Oh, we've got all the puns tonight, isn't it?
Oh, yeah, just get them out of my mouth now. So, we're going to everyone's revving up the engines, listen to the howling raw, well, and attention begging you to touch and go. Go away to the Deja zone. Right, we'll go out the system now.
So, yes. Out your systems. Out your systems. No.
So, how are you? I'm good. I'm going to see it. There's going to be a lot of things.
I have to recognize there's going to be a lot of things in this. Yeah. But if you thought it was going to be much of an along music video, that was a set of soultruck with clips. But it is.
But it is, Arne Hill. It's one of the best soundtracks, movie soundtracks. Oh! 100%.
Cause you know why something? You've lost a love and feeling. Oh! She fell for it?
Oh. Hophoxic. Do you want to get the disclaimer out the way? I think it probably best.
And we can crack open this movie. Well everything discussed in today's episode is our opinions and our opinions alone if you'd like to discuss anything from today's episode A please come and join us on the Facebook page the discord or the comment section where we have an open discussion But what we won't have is anyone coming for us and tell us our opinions are wrong because we can all agree to disagree in fandom So let's keep it fun keep it kind and keep the toxic behavior out of a nerd is and very well said lovely lady Now one thing I wanted to get with before started because laser wrap like a little bitch We did a little thing on the Facebook group here where we got other people to give their kind of coal signs because I say that's What I've done is all the cool and interesting coal signs now And we used to what you think your name should be so but I went out and went how to thought about it I went what would Sammy's call sign be what would Lee's call sign be and what would my calls? I'm being a bit special and I've given you a bit of a call sign so we'll start with you Sammy What do you think your calls sign would be? Well, I don't know because I'm not very imaginative when it comes to shit like this I think what a great idea is but I can't come up with names.
I mean I was always crapped at the Tarnians Hence the reason why I'm kidding. It's about 13. Well, I didn't want to go over case bars I thought that was too on the nose. So I thought this won't be a quite a good one So I'll just put the name up there so see it there.
So yours would be Reaper. I Like that. So almost like the Grim Reaper, but that would be because you're our mistress of death I don't know why I'm smiling. I'm like, oh, yeah, that's so cool.
But then I remember he has to put mine up. Yes So what would you think mine would be? Oh? Yeah, I don't think you would go anywhere into like the cult status because I feel like you'd want to stay away from that So maybe the collector the collector.
Oh, I was a little bit boring and I went with something that bit on the nose. I went the Cooney That is brilliant. Yes, so I'm excited for this next one though now Lee you're a special Fork we could have so many different names so many different connotations But you know what I didn't want to be too mean so I think I found one change I think I found one that goes fit your personality to a tee so I went with Tigger You are Canis because you should say the way you go one when you're out you bounce around all over the place So yes, you are like I said the bundle of energy the bundle of joy and when you have you down there's like a Do Tigger gets all sad and easy as well floppy any time till it's between his legs But I can't say you bouncing around on your 14 inch cock fine around like This one is made out of spring That's very whole so up until the point you mentioned 14 inch penis I've just read a comment from Joe saying that I would give Sammy the call sign silver because I remember she used to be in Hedden silver band I believe you say I would be here like is that the guy who does I would be here This is the joy is now taking notes and he's writing the gospel that I Did you to be in Hedden silver for a very very minimal time? I was in Horton brass this one time a band cam Sami No Thanks Joe thanks for being that person and I really love them names So I thought I said I thought I didn't want to just go with the things could be globally could be daddy Lee no And I could have been kitty sparkles.
It could have been makes a mind of the pony. It could have been rainbow bright But no we went for a river Just to see if you focus on me she will kill you so that's fine So I also have an interest in fact on death in this in this episode too So some you do you want to give us the taglines and the speech? I'm gonna do the speech first because I feel like I kicked off the whole episode doesn't it? Yes, so on March 3rd 1969 the United States Navy established an elite school for the top 1% of its pilots Its purpose was to teach the lost art of aerial combat and ensure that the handful of men who graduated were the best fighter pilots in the world They succeeded today the Navy calls it fight a weapons school the fly is call it Very well said and with that I think I've only got one interesting fact on this move because I know you said you had some I didn't want to go to to dive in on this because that's quite an interesting comment because I know me and somebody said before Lee finally did join us after born this in front of our top now and This movie was like a propaganda like to try and get people to join on the nearly for America Do you know what the percentage of a wet up by how many people joined the naval forces after this movie came out?
500% 500% I A solo mission yeah, and I'm going with it So yes, that's the tagline to this movie three of them But I have so much information on this film because holy shit is this something this? Wasn't meant to be something and I'll tell you and just to give you an idea of where this movie was originally Starting from the two top directors before Tony Scott got his hands on it. Mm-hmm. Even Cronenberg John Carpenter I Know that's where that's at the time on the studio got their hands on this script That's the two directors that they wanted to go with and then it got to eventually got around to Tony Scott who then had to then got M the producers on board which was Gosh, what's his name?
Brooke Eimer Yeah, Brooke Eimer And there was one other one and I can't remember what his name is and but yet and then they had to go to Paramount to beg Because the money involved in this movie is nothing short of ridiculous Yeah, it's like actually used real naval ships real Plenty and they had to go to the Pentagon so they've paramount how to had to pay the Pentagon 1.8 million the use of their planes And the only way that they would do this is obviously payment and also that the naval forces were actually involved So the Navy got full car branch on the script right So They did want to put a recruitment ads at the beginning of the DVDs But then the watch didn't went this is already a number of propaganda movie. There's no point paying the extra money to do it absolutely Oh gosh, so the actors involved. Yeah, this is being probably the most interesting part of it all so Tonkaroos was mean Was always the guy but Tonkaroos was not interested now if we don't have Legend with Ridley Scott. Yeah, we don't have top-gun with Tony Scott It was Ridley who eventually convinced him after legend so he literally finished his legend to go into this So I've always been under the impression that this is Tom Cruise's Hollywood movie.
This is where he cleans it up This is where he gets the new teeth. No, no, he doesn't. No, they're still there Jesus Christ, but so Tom Cruise was always the main person and Tom sat on it for a very long time So they started looking into other actors Matthew Maudeen right who if people don't know who he is he is the you've puffer in Strange things and as I learned today Which I did not know until literally a couple of hours ago. It's Jocken full metal That's what he turned down top gun for full metal jackets Yeah, probably so and that sounds the both big films probably full metal jacket Probably gets more credit than top gun for cinematography or for storytelling and being out of a better film No, I kind of I kind of ring his full metal jacket was one of it is one of my favorite wall films Like if I'm gonna go watch that style of film.
What's the leaf? Good camp on I lose Impressive it is a bit after that it is a bit It's very realistic. Well, this is very much As we said before propaganda movie to me like entice people to think this is the life that you want to live travel around in the Navy Shagavi woman in a port Yeah, that's true. Well before saw the other actors that were considered for the role.
I mean he rest of us Not bad. I don't know I could say many rest was doing this. Yeah, yeah, and Patrick's way To be honest after I brought house and I could see who's my freak my breakfast is my friend. Oh, yeah, she is Yeah The best one Sean Penn Watching that's that's David Crum and Purna burgers as Sean Penn morphin in the airplane And the plane Backside and fire missiles at his eyes So you are so right the next one is Rob Law now that is someone definitely could say Joe in this Charlie Sheen And the next one the next two are actually quite interesting Michael J Fox It could be a box The next one would be I would class as the same category as Michael J Fox is Ralph Machin I Would say a mike de Fox as a goose roll that would work No, no, I think I don't think I don't think I got a fox as maverick cuz he's like he's got a nervous energy I might be cries and never like seen as a when he called him chicken boy He's never like a hundred percent confident all out here like if my gosh your fox is never being that person Yeah, you're right and for the ladies for the lady for Charlie and To be honest any one of these could have done a better job than before we got and Ali CD is she is one of them and Brooke Shields demi moir Julianne Phillips I don't know if you know who Julianne Phillips is the picture of Kelly making us in there because the two Let's do it finished.
She looks the part. She looks fantastic But if I'm gonna be brutally honest, I don't know I don't want to be shitting on people She is the weak link in this movie like when it comes to act and wise like it's I Heard to one of voice and where she delivers the lines never changes like even when she's upset when she's happy Sounds bad I got very bored and we like some he laughed beforehand This has probably one of the most awkward and weird sex scenes that I've ever seen with this and again I'll point it out because I was paying attention and this doesn't make me a creep They were going full tongues with the kisses like probably pong tongues with the kisses as well I was like all right. I was someone's enjoying this a little bit too much of the don't know where the line is Don't know how way to cross it But what I found hilarious leading up to the the sex scene was the the song of choice Yeah, take my breath away and it was every time I'm Showing like a montage of their interactions before they got up to it at every time It just progressed the song a little bit further And then you would see the next one and would progress it even more and then when it got to the sexy the vocals kicked in and it's like It's all progression of this song leading to this moment. I Absolutely doubled over laughing when that came on especially who the fuck stands in front of each other the way that they did Because Pete Mitchell's meant to be this womanizer and stuff like I want to take a top off It's like you sing boobs for the first time the look and he's like this is amazing.
I've never seen a bear breast in my life What do I do? Val Kilmer did not want to play this part right reluctantly turned the script down quite a few times thought it was silly It's like the warmonger in it, but Tony Scott said please take a chance on it Just let's let's do a movie together. Let's just look at it Like we're just working together don't look at the actual context of the film Look at this like and he did any end it says one of his favorite films that he's ever done is the production of top one Yeah, you can tell me like when he was like because Val Kilmer and all a lot of people do give him a bit of shit But when you look at the role he's been in he's very rarely doing a bad performance he makes it like Even these later films like kiss kiss bang bang is just amazing I want to I'll be a huckaberry and he is my Batman and Gorse in the darkness. I actually saw that in school And I remember they were showing it in stages to the point where I was said to me down I mean you can see this in his entirety like it was so good He was brilliant in it and He is he's my Batman and he is that you know what he is the voice of fucking reason in this film He is not an antagonist.
He is the voice of reason He's not the bad guy but he comes with a red dick headbutt But he doesn't listen to what he listens to what he listens to what he says he is being nothing but sincere Yes, he's trying to give my advice always through but I think it's just is open in line of the Have you figured it out yet? Best is just makes them look like a prick. I think so What you've got to remember as well is like the voice of reason? I said in this type of environment This is the best of the best This is a room full of egos where the God complex would be through the roof like each one of them people think they are gods gift No one will be able to touch them So of course there's gonna be some people that don't get along or like the like thing and you can tell at the start There's no respect between content Iceman and Maverick because they don't call each other by the podiums Iceman always calls him Mitchell and like Maverick always calls him because Kazansky So it's like the ones that say them as like we refuse to say them like about level five thing And it's only I think Goose refers to rumours Iceman when he's talking like off at least five I got iceman before us and stuff like that But I always thought that was quite an interesting tip But yeah, you're right in saying the trying portrait Iceman as kind of like the villain But it's one of those films where there is no villain It's it's just basically a competition where you're trying to be the best and it's an interesting to you because it's like America fuck yeah It really is and I think with Iceman I don't know there's something just so pure about him.
I actually I couldn't say I was an antagonist All he was doing was looking out for their best interest for all he understood It was a competition at the end of the day He did not want anyone to get hurt No safety was kind of a priority for him and because of how reckless Maverick could be that was too concerned in forum So that's why he might have come across as a bit of a douche in Maverick size But when you're looking at it from like I was perspective I just thought he was trying to offer him a helping hand like come on You've got to re on this in otherwise someone's gonna get hurt. Oh and guess what? Someone did end up getting fucking hurt But you can't blame Maverick for that because it was It's all for that way. Yeah, yeah, no, no, no, no, no, no, you're right I think that was Iceman's fault.
But it's losing his balls Well, you wouldn't move all the way from Maverick to take the shot That's true. That's true But there's a reason why the chemistry is so good between Tom Cruise and Bal Kilmer And that whole icy reception that they have towards each other because they never interrupted on set Oh, I thought we were doing it for the boys That I was reading about that same today And it's a Tony Scott shut the production down for the whole day And just recorded this It was a full match that lasted all day where the competition did get really really heated between the pair The production company lost their shit over it Because it's only shown for a very small piece of time And he made a whole fucking day of it But he also did it for respite Right, a bit of like breaking the crew is sitting around watching it Right, no, it was a good scene I know everyone always jokes around takes a piss But it kind of needs that little bit of like fun Because of that, that's a time that's a very dark and serious film Like I just said, the talk about war and the talk about the missions that's going ahead But it's interesting as well because I know you said at the start that the US Navy had like seeing over the script and had sign offs or anything How the actual naval generals and stuff are portrayed Where the more concerned about losing millions of dollars of equipment than human life Tails a lot And so And again, I don't know if that's just I just said like the American viewpoint down to a T I'm not a savage as well I know they're like watching it now They're like I've always been listening earlier when they're kicking off Like I said, oh yeah, the good one of those are thin But they're like, that's not your body's making cash and checks I can't afford to think with tax fees dollars It's like yours right checks everybody can cash Yeah, well, all of the pilots are all stunned pilots Every single one, if you see Tom Cruise doing turny flimsy flopsies That's somebody that's a stunned pilot who He did all of Tom's stunts but one of the stunned pilots art school Was actually killed in the production Right He was 54, he died when his pits S2 camera plane failed to recover from a flat spin And plunged him into the Pacific Ocean Right His last words over the radio were, I have a problem, I have a real problem He still hasn't been found or is aircraft No, no, the film's totally dedicated to him as well He's on an island with the air What was it? Oh, at least he's not on his own It's but this movie is so clever And there's a lot of things based on real life The fight at the end where that's based on true events Charlie, she is an actual person I was just like the deputy secretary of defense for the Pentagon I was swimming with that in real life, isn't it? Yes, she's a genuine real person But the Navy wouldn't allow, so the line you know where they say you don't salute her She's classed as a civilian They had to do that because of her actual title And she is not her Does that make sense?
So she is playing so they couldn't allow anyone to salute her Because that's not the real person and her real, so it was really clever Honestly, the detail in this movie is ridiculous The best real life person to do with this film is When Charlie leaves the bar to go with the old man did He goes and sits with the real life viper The vibe is based on who's called Pete Pettigrew Which is hilarious because it's like the rock from Harry Potter But it's a peanut butter Have you heard of his finger missing? But then the news is named for a potential as well Yes, it did Yeah, the real life of the real life viper Even though I lost my shit when I saw who viper was being played by I loved that man He was a dad and steal like an all-ius man He's booked in class And the minute I saw Michael Einstein's name come up Of course he's in this movie I'm something that's in his army based Yeah, but Michael Einstein's character as well He's a bit of a dick Because he cheats and then Maverick gets wrong for him, chain Because he knows Maverick's got him So he's like oh he takes the cause outside of the radius Where you're meant to war But he doesn't want to get down by this upstart So that was an interesting thing But I know one of my favorite things I'll show the little gift of it as well It's just so out of place in this movie When you think of it And it shows like the arrogance that Pete Mitchell's Maverick is That when they walk in the bar Him and Goose have the little bet in that He's got to take someone home and go home or someone And I think he's the line No one can't know about it I can't get this guy I can't get the word I don't know But and then you get the whole singing bit as well And as you said before Music is such a big part But using the unchain You've lost that righteous brother You've lost that love and failure It's just iconical The pabic swears in Demi Moore Seen out of Ghost You've won't get the fucking bin Yeah, sorry That movie just torments maybe The concept of that idea of that Is just horrific It is such a good scene Music is a huge part of this So to have that in there Yes it feels a bit out of place But in the grand scheme of it It's not really It's too positive for Yeah, there's two bits in with him And like Goose in it for a second There's that bit And then when the group holds a fire That is just magic And Meg Ryan Again, I know she has a lot of shit She is absolutely amazing She's phenomenal in this She runs rings around the female lead In this movie She is her energy You can tell them two were meant to be together Because of the energy that they both have They're both as batshit-crazy as each other They did actually end up having a long-term relationship After this Really? Yeah, it was just punching above his way there mind up No, what is he doing? No, he's not I'm sure I heard someone say that He wasn't a lot of it Take his stuff off for the funny Paul scene That's moving scenes Because like It's funny she even really like But this is the end And it's all the same Because he wasn't as ripped as everyone else Yeah See, he's not goose for me It's Mark Green from me, yeah So I just I think he's lovely He's a very lily lily person But I saw him in Revenge of the Nerds Oh yes I'm gonna go that far Oh my gosh, I remember that That's just joke to memory But Meg Ryan was phenomenal But to anyone else's note Is that Tim Robbins just shows up halfway through this film And is in the final scenes Yeah, because he's a goof Yeah What the fuck did he show up?
He's Merlin isn't he's Merlin in a shot Yeah, at the end when he gets out the plane And he takes these things off and I'm like What did you come from Tim Rans? Like, everyone gets a start somewhere But like Meg Ryan's line And this is just amazing Take me to bed or lose me forever boy And he's like Gives us a reaction Show me the way to go home And that whole scene The Great Balls of Fire Was all it was Slightly improved Because the new they were gonna be doing a bar scene They just didn't know what was gonna take place And Tony Scott said I want you to play the piano And then he put the music on to what he was playing the piano to Right And all because Tony Scott had literally been listening to Great Balls of Fire in the morning By Jerry Lee Lewis And he went I want you to play that Because it stuck in my head That's the song that's gonna be played And they made this amazing scene out of it There's a lot of ad living in this And a lot of things that Tom Cruise had a lot to do with the script This is the first time he's ever Being able to Or being allowed to Be involved in the script And when Val Kilmer shows Watch it That's all Improved Right And Tony was very open to Creativity Yeah We had a guideline But what can we do? How well do you know these people So that you can then Create your own stuff On screen And he was really really very obvious Very much like his brother in that respect Oh definitely And you can tell a lot of it Because you put like As I said before You put the best and the best in the room together There's gonna be egos And this was kind of like At the time Some of the heavy hitters in Hollywood Coming through And people were expecting great things From Tom Cruise, Val Kilmer I don't think Edward's like He was gonna go on to do good things as well And everyone was kind of It's giving them that creative freedom To express how they feel as well But it's not really like they say Rocket Science when it comes to this movie When it becomes like script wise Or how to think it's like Clean it, see if why the numbers But that's probably where The Navy's had it's seeing Or how it's all incurring But the cinematography as well Is absolutely beautiful Like when you're looking back Like just like flying on a straight son He's motorbike or Charlie And a classic car chasing after him For the most part of his raising as well Yeah There's shots of what we've got in the background On here of the plane's take And off to the sunset Tony Scott wanted more shots of that But the boat had ended up turning the wrong way And he wanted the guy to turn the ship around And he was like It's gonna cost like at least $25,000 Tony by the moment And he gave up We wanted a check And the check bounced But he got a shot He got it Yeah, Tony The cinematography is all down to Tony Like in how he wanted to envision it all And especially that opening scene Was really special to him And the reason why he was so bossy In his check writing To be able to say Just do it Even though it ends up bouncing The Navy Like as mentioned earlier The Navy was so prevalent in this movie Like they had total car lunch on the script And everything like that They also only authorized Two missiles To be shot out of the aircrafts So Tony had to be really clever With the shots that he did with the two Because he had to reuse them Over and over again So you can tell the original apparently But the originals I should say But they are And then you can tell the ones that have been reused Because they were only allowed to They did that well Though the US Navy put an inquiry in To see if more missiles have been fired Yeah, that's how well the edited So I, when I'm watching this editing of it Is a bit sketchy for us in some places Especially like the same The bedroom scene And flipping between scenes I always thought it was a bit But edited within the scenes And within the fighting scenes They were so I feel like that's where the time was spent And was in the air I know we've been on about As like week in, week out This is probably probably the tagline for the podcast Now, practical effects are better than special effects Yeah, I don't think there was any Special effects used in the original And I normally would say If they made this movie again now They would use all special effects But that's been proven not again Because when they're done One of the things about doing Maverick That Tom Cruise insisted why you would do the movie Is that I would use all the practical effects There is special effects in there But like flying the planes and everything Everything is practical effects again For Top Gun Maverick I don't think Tom Cruise would do it If he wasn't allowed actually Getting a adrenaline Adrenaline or Foxy I'd drennal in a rush Out of me in the movies I think Top Gun was the start of it as well, wasn't it? Yeah, this is literally does legend And then this is his next movie Is after that So this is the start This is the start and point of Tom Cruise's career And he does love practical effects It's proven I can see a lot about the man But when it comes to his act and you can't knock What he does And kids Who can?
He wasn't sure about doing this film at all Oh no, he turned it down Some of that in the 14s And did like All the rules and stuff He was nearly sick And like a stuff He was sick He was sick He threw up everywhere Because Tony Scott said Get him up in the air And from there was Johnny Brockheimer Said get him up in the air And flip the fucker around Until he can't take normal And he vomed As the only person who didn't bomb Was the guy who played Goose Oh yes You're playing the guy on the phone He was like signing his up now It's interesting though When you look at Tom Cruise's career After Top Gun Because as I said Before he was like All the right moves Risky business legend Then Top Gun Then it was the color of money Which is basically The whole Newman kind of sequel To Top Gun in the end now But cocktail Rain Man born on the fourth of the giant There's a thunder So this was kind of like The point where Tom Cruise I kind of went Stella But then He was probably like I said Not the world's biggest superstar yet It was probably when he did A few good men in the firm And I didn't really want to run by Where His star rose to the point Where we had the Tom Cruise Level of like Megaton Cruise I was like The But then he said Megapine to the Johnny Death League Megapine Well he is very enth Pank size Yeah the way he was in this movie Because he didn't match up to the size Of his female ease Because she's 5'10 He's only 5'7 So we had to wear high heels And I've watched Days of Thunder this week as well Like a meeting after watching Top Gun Because I saw a good one So I hadn't seen Top Gun until I was about 23 years old Because I hate that Berlin song It's quite those Yeah So I thought it was like some kind of like Lovey-W romance filament I wasn't really a Tom Cruise fan but then And I was wrong So I changed in you That I was made to it And she was like Oh, like she mentioned Top Gun I was like I've never seen it And she forced us to watch it I went out the next day And I bought a DVD Which was Top Gun And Days of Thunder Dual Disc And I watched Top Gun every single day For about 6 months I loved it that much And I watched Top Gun after it I mean, did you do afterwards as well? I was 39 when I first watched this See And I didn't know Goose died I didn't even know you were already going to think I've watched you one next week friend But thanks for that But yeah, I only watched it And because my best friend Loves this movie And she'd been banged on for us to watch Maverick as well And I will get around to watching it It wasn't out of any of the week It's just Other things came up That I wanted to watch before that But after today I totally had a whole different perspective on this movie When I first watched it I feel like I was just watching shapes And you know Oh, well, shit Goose died It's gonna come in Generally didn't see that coming I'm not in the piz I did not know that Goose died in that movie And but today I've had just a Like a bit of a I probably sat and watched it And it's meant to be as I said Like this is Because when it came out near these The hard-tempo or big movie releases But as we said last week We won our blockbuster season This And again, my opinion could be wrong But this was in my opinion The first real Tempo, summer blockbuster movie When it came out in its time That kind of changed the game For a lot of movies going forward Where every kind of studio Like every big studio Was like right when we did a big tempo Tempo, blockbuster And big actions Like movie that comes out after This is kind of like the starting point For every game So in a lot of things This changed the way the movie industry Worked or how they viewed Movies going forward Because it didn't have to be like sci-fi Or romantic Or romantic comedy and stuff like that This is where Something that was Something like over Explained Over detailed Movie That this isn't it Yeah so this kind of birthed Like the modern day action movie In my eyes Is this the starting point of Jai Because there's a whole era of Jai Brokaima movies Is this the starting point of it? Because you always knew a Jai Brokaima movie by the opponent of the movie The music that they use It's like Juh-uh-uh-uh-uh-uh-uh-uh-uh And they I'm just picturing Conneur now Do you know what I mean? Like it was The opponents were always so epic So you knew you were watching a Jai Brokaima movie So let's have a look there So Top Gun So before this He produced American Jigal Very different type of movie Very different Flash dance Very very different Beverly's Hill Cop So starting to go on to the action But more comedy Then Top Gun Then it was Beverly's Hill Cop 2 Days of Thunder Top So yeah So then he was involved with Things like Crimson Time Dangerous Minds The Rock Con Air Again So yeah I would say this one was his Basically His definitely his tour In starting point In the action movie Jonna He's done some He's produced some Fucking brilliant movies Like Cinema Go and Popcorn Eating movies Like you know There's no Your brain doesn't have to Take in so much Because the plot of this Is the fight of The Fiederpile School And the aim to get Top Gun But you've got a very Small Side Story With Maverick's Dad Where he doesn't know the truth About his dad And it's not over explained It's not It's not to rag on It doesn't take up all the plot Point But it has a very small section For itself or to be explained And then you get the end With the actual I don't even know How to describe him Fight That's like a redemption Where he gets you And that sounds like a bit Manly this Hill It's all bit like Hetero, shall we see it He gets his balls back Yeah he does Yeah It's kind of like Which we'd see at the start Where I've got What was the guy who was Number one at the time And he has a Meltdown in Oh I've got him And keep thinking Keep thinking Keep thinking But it is it's Kuga Kuga so he has a meltdown Because he makes a test in them Like testing the metal Say what they can do And he gets like little As they say where He could get missed out And his kids could have been Like without a dad And to think about it as well You've got to like To do that type of job Or to do that type of missions You can't think anything Like that Because as soon as that Thaw up and is your mind Your career is done Yeah and he knew that He knew that instant The minute he was looking at that Picture and the realization That I haven't even met this kid yet And I'm going to die before I even have a chance to meet him No this is not worth it And he was very Matter of fact Like just Fuck no There was no hesitation And I generally thought The guy who he was saying it to Was going to go What do you a slacker?
That's it But it's the first time I've ever Seen him have some fucking heart Like he was genuinely He cared about these people I think the old days Especially like Vybert Is that guy that He's a pimp? Yeah, let's talk about the hell man I wouldn't just realize that That's it I wouldn't mind him I can't Do you know what? I couldn't pick his name out of the Castellist I couldn't But I just I think enough is Why isn't he called these people slackers? That's like That's why That's all open and seen though It's just so cool It's setting up Goose and Mavorex Like friends It's almost like the reckless duo Like obviously the number one guy Who's going to be a hot shot Vox up and then Like the thing it ups I don't finger in the air And just to top it off Goose With these I can't remember I'm going to stop giving out facts Because I am running out of them The F14 pilot who flips the bird Obviously it's not Tom Cruise Sorry people It is an actual pilot called Scott D Adam and he is Tom Cruise's stuntman Throughout the whole movie This guy goes on to be a fucking NASA Astronaut Flying He's a pilot in two missions And a commander on two more missions This is a NASA fucking astronaut This is when I found that out The dude and I was like And he's flipping the bird off Like oh This is how much this movie has given me Is the detail of The actual making of it's being Fantastic to learn about I love the whole polarizing I come in later on as well When I bullshit from Volkama And it's like no no really I'm going to really Great for the way But it's like you fucking dumbass Like why would you have to defend this?
Again it's quite a good interest And interaction with between Maverick and Charlie at this point Because we've had the You've lost that love and theme And then actually I think For some reason He follows her in the women's bathroom And goes already on her It's not a good thing to do that It's not a good thing That's a good thing Especially for the 80s Where it was a big thing for When women say no more the main yes Type thing So that was kind of like We didn't I'm just going to pop that out there We didn't They always do But that's a different story Oh a totally different But yeah That was like a whole different Creepy So that whole interaction Then by him to see Like Charlie in the classroom And like the awkward interaction then And then from how the goal And be like all arrogant And sitting like saying Well it's classified And she's like I want to find out A bit more about this And he's like well If you've got access Go and read about it Take with her You with a douchebag You shouldn't be given her the attitude You should be asking her for forgiveness there Yeah The bird Yeah I hate it when it does that Yeah Oh my gosh I absolutely loved using this But I did see a lot of Lianum Which is just some of the characteristics Of them in the way you talk Oh god Lianum really is the goose of Algon Goose's death was apparently Men to be much more horrific And the studio had to Teem it down He was going to die in a flam and Cratch aboard aircraft carrier Right And they wanted to train To train an accident because it was Less Less He was if you died in the fire You can't have that emotional moment Where he literally is in Tom Cruise's arms Died They did And the way that he holds them And he presses his head up against him That's what God is That's what made us cry Was because he just Cradled him You can't have that When he's being burged to death No And it's quite It's really heartbreaking as well Especially when they're saying Or you need to let go Because we need to try and Ting and he's just One's in mind One lever And one let go of him One let go of him It's kind of like Oh It's traumatizing Yeah It's because Let him green He's the heart of the movie Like So we've got Mavrico Does not deserve to pull Kelly McGillis Or any other woman for that matter Because he's so pretty Following her into the toilets And then every interaction he has After that with her If you take away all the romantic music It's just weird Like him going up in the elevator And being like I'll try to remember that Just it's so weird Yeah She went up to her She went up later to the dates And then going like Oh I'm just going to go and take a shower While you cook me tea You dickheads Just short one time Clean Oh wow Is this how you got back to the page That you showed up clean and sweaty I wasn't prepared for an epically run Sorry He's a nice man His Iceman is the top gun He wins the whole competition He has the best pilot And he's just a fucking master of his skill But he did it Is this serious guy in film? But he's not a master though It was his fault Because he didn't disengage When he didn't have the shots So again it's about using your instincts When you're fine as well True I win Best pilot yes Best best dog fighter No Yeah Sorry I suppose it's like a box Going against a UFC fighter or something Mother X UFC fighter But all the different skills But Iceman's studied like one specific thing And he is a master of that Yeah Seeing where your wingman Doing what you're supposed to do And flying by the book Yeah I didn't like the idea that the kept telling That they get over it His best friend died in his arms Essentially How the fuck are you meant to just Get over that and move on It's near impossible How he even puts one foot in front of the other Is beyond me But I love the moment Where he What he says Talk to me goes And I'm going to start to want to talk right And he just because he was When he was holding these dog medals And it's like he had that moment Like I just need to hear what he would say right now And it's like he tuned into it But there was another line that got us as well Where he's in the car with what's our face And he just goes I just really want him back And that's all he says And I'm like oh god How many times have we said that in grief I just really really want him back It's interesting what you said though about How you found it really annoying That everyone just kind of Want them to get on with it And want them to keep moving forward That is kind of like the military attitude though Especially if anyone's got any family in those From the military or like Don any military training That is them and tell me through and through They'll break it down We'll get you to the point where Like you're the kind of like They want to mold you into something And that's And again, not just start getting all Like deep and stuff here That's why now We have so many people that come out with the armed forces With so many mental health issues Or Hey, TST issues Because of that same mentality Where they come in back into civilian life They don't know how to function Without someone telling them What to do, when do we wake up? How to react Because that's what the middle of the thing That's why it keeps us in Getting them up in the keep on pushing them To try and get them in And I love that you hear that aspect Because that ensures how much of a wonderful person You want to not explore and smoke up your arse or something Because you can't see that side And I don't want you to never lose that type of innocence Thanks I totally don't have any family in the military But I have Say I can't miss it Sometimes when With certain programs and news articles About the military Military men and women coming out And I don't And it's I don't know It's not that I'm not looking I just read more about the American side of it More than anything Of the treatment of their vets Yeah And in some regards it can be great In some it can't be It's heart-breaking Because I do get what you mean Like it gets me angry But maybe because it's the right angle Yeah, no, no It just means you've not lost your humanity And you can say it from that aspect And that empathy It's a special thing to have So again No But there is a scene That is available on Special TV I don't know if you guys have any of the Special Edition DVDs of this movie are blue rangers But there is a shot That was done of Maverick going to Goose's grave Right I really wish they kept it in I really wish they kept it in I love the fact that he throws these dog tags into the water That's his way of like Okay, friend You go be one with the sea kind of thing Yeah But I wanted him to have a bit more closure You get that in the second one Oh, right, okay Because not to give like spoilers It's not as well as The second one He's training at Top Gun And Goose's son Is a part of it I was telling So good in this month I don't mind about the teller at all And he's not angry That's not as well He's not angry that Goose died He's angry that Maverick wasn't around Afterwards Just see it I mean there's a lot to it Right I will get round to watching I guess we When it came out We had that or no From New Year movie And we went with Nope Glen Powell as well Is in Maverick Is the main guy in the New Twisters movie? Ah, he's the one that I think should play Hangman He should be cleared Boosted to Golden And then you did If you did Yeah Is he the guy who I don't know Did he watch Swain Queens Is he in there?
Yes Yes Oh he is fantastic He was in his figures Oh he's so good He can play bad And good And the in between Like he's Oh he's in between He's like the dickhead But he's also he's good Well he does He's like Iceman But with more testosterone and ego Is Val Kilima in it In Maverick Yes It's a cameo Yeah Oh he's in it He's in it I think they've He's got Froot Cancer in real life So Is he still alive? I don't know what happens Yeah I've got a little life He's still alive But they had to do a few Special effects What type of thing For that one Oh bless It's Texas Seems and things Oh bless him At least he's there At least he's acknowledged Because he is a huge part of this movie Um you don't have The Voice of Reason If you don't have Val Kilima Because that's all he is He's just the Voice of Reason He might come across as a dickish way But yeah He's almost clear like Not the vibe about Because he's not a pilot But he's kind of like the Vyberall In Maverick Where he's kind of like Given like a Ralph's in speech Or like telling Maverick To pull up his socks and So Okay shit Together five thing Because he's still being Like even 20 or 30 years later He's still being Pete Mitchell He's not being He's not being Like the sensible person Like you think he's still Going around I don't even think he's been promoted Or anything has he? No he keeps getting Anything he's composed I don't even I don't like the dialogue At the end where he's good You can be my wingman Anytime You can be my wingman Oh my god Oh my god That's the pissing contest though That's thing That's thing that's Again That's the military attitude As well Where it's kind of like Never let one person get better And you're like You always got to do like one more Or like push yourself In that competition But that's because I've been brought up with sports and And like everything makes A competition wise where I get that Where it's I was capable of clearly Remember from that shit And the last thing that I have That's of interest And I mentioned it earlier Was the final combat And now it was based on two real life events The were inspired by The capture of the US Navy Spy Ship USS I want to say this right Piavolo By North Korea And I'm very sorry if I've butchered that In 1968 in the 1980 And in the 1980s Gulf of Sedera engagements Where an F14 Tomcats down Four Libran Migs in air-to-air combat For a dyslexic That was incredibly hard to read One thing I'm just really excited Because of what just came up In the gift at the site And you've either used to Or anybody in chat If you see us I've never got to do this in the entire life And I really want to do it Someone please high five me like that You've got to be able to bring a swing down as well It's the coolest thing ever They do it with so much Come with you and Chris Like they'll be like Large trying to reach up I was surprised me and Chris don't do it already You do everything else You do everything else You do everything else You shouldn't have to share Look up in the hotel after some of your guns These are the hotel after some of your guns M one thing again Because it makes sense with everything That we've learned like on this podcast And with the nearby's like input And what they've had to see in this movie They've got to remember They've just been in the battle scene Where they've killed people And they get back to the base And they celebrate it Like they've just born everything It's like How many people have they are killed Or injured Or caused really That damage Even if it's in a wartime situation I don't know personally how I would fail After that I wouldn't be like cheering and I don't think I'd be doing that I wouldn't be doing like this Yeah, it's like cuddle in the air We did it But like the whole base And I didn't get around them And just starts like being like Jim Robbins coming out of the new way Yeah, it's like yeah I mean they're a bit too happy But at least they're not as happy As capturing a being Brimbug and being like It's afraid Yes! That one's over the top of it Yeah, that was something Yeah, but that was doing the house So it was allowed Stooky humanly man These guys probably will get back And be like excited Like yes, we've got back a lot It's a new one And see if And then the next year That we're going to be like Oh my god I'm just going to hang on Swimming in jets That's my friend child Yeah, so all we're getting now Is just adrenaline induced Fist pumping Like we got on the ground kind of thing And then tomorrow the hand All the kicks in And the gregret And the remote That's the case Because I would hear the thing That's how the alimes work To be fair I was thinking about the Americans Now I was like yeah We didn't shoot our own people Sorry Well done I'm sorry Oh, friendly fire you dicks He's an op-in college you know Sorry, I'm not better or angry at all That's fine No But yes, anything that you want to bring To the table that we haven't mentioned Because I know we've done a few songs We talked about an uncomfortable scene And I have given so many facts I think this is the most fact-filled episode I've ever done For a very long time I think it's even more fact-filled And the bloody monsters actually coming off Jesus Well I do have a amazing fact that I love About Michael Einstein Because Michael Einstein is my favorite army guy I've ever said before If you need someone that looks like the Bullshit How do you make a line size to clear that army guy He was on the shit Walking down the corridors And one of the real life naval officers Was running along and stopped to salute him Because he thought he was a real army general guy I actually have that down on here But didn't think it was worthy enough to break up But he does have that kind of thought He does look like someone that would be An army general as well So and if you probably see him in a few Of those ones, Shady, is an army general?
It's just like that's his role I think this is the first time he plays army general Because this is where he starts getting tightcast Because he mentioned it in one of the Things I read was that He loves the fact That if there's a military The go to him You know how some actors don't take me tightcast My guy inside didn't feel like that At all Right, at the top of the lock See what Save his coins from What do you do beforehand? Oh, to do my grand side Why is not going to see his film biography now? Erm, so Scanner's just before this So Dave O'Kroneberg, so that's O'Kroneberg, so he might be O'Kroneberg acting you know Yeah, and Top Gun So he doesn't have a V So he doesn't have a TV show of V Watches, Islander 2 Sequests Lewis Lindstad In Smallville as General Lind Isn't he in Bill and Tets Wilkes journey Or Matt Twotley Fing or something? No, that's what else He was in Free, well he got Well I was I was hysterical through that To be fair, it wasn't something that we It wasn't Lee Pumming one out, it was fine Erm, I got to that This guy's American name, I suppose he's the cap Top Gun Then Total Recall Oh, I guess He's the total recall Just to the next character kid Is he?
Yeah, he was I'm sure he's not going away I'm sure he's not going away Is he's not going away He's missing me, I'm going to kick his ass Cause he's like He's trying to go into the last time They're like, no, we don't want to beat him up And they're like, he's like, oh He all loses I'm going to kick himself to bring him on When he's people's over with me, how are you guys? No, we end this now And it goes all I didn't want to do an impression So I didn't want to do an impression So I think I don't know I think I don't know Just okay But yes, I really didn't want to do an accent Or online Yes, I just said the words In an aggressive tone Yes, yes Yes, but yes But yes, but someone did mention in the chat earlier Erm, if we didn't get Top Gun We wouldn't have our shots It's true And all when it comes to parody films Like Hot Shots is up there I know it's a parody for Hot Shots And Rambo But this movie gets sent up so many times Like I think there's so many jokes about Like the way Tom Cruise looks in this movie And as you said, it is just And a propaganda scene We're in the near the now Come and join us and have this amazing time Yeah And with But Obviously again, this is going to be a weird thing to see If you took the soundtrack away Oh What this movie be as good As it is Without the soundtrack Because the opening music that they have That's a kind of It fills the gaps in all the other It's like a build up If you don't have that You're not feeling anything You're just watching planes and going But what big time is it? Do do do do do do do do do Yeah, that kind of like sets up your emotion To like, oh fuck yeah, look at this man But if you don't have that It's kind of like It would just be like a generic action movie type thing But yeah I think Bishit And again I know we talked about music in films being used But as used as well as this I know we've talked about like a great soundtrack away from the movie, but the use of music in this movie, can you think of many films that use it better? I'm always gonna, I'm always gonna pick anything up against Kill Bill, because for me Kill Bill has the greatest soundtrack, movie soundtrack of all time, and I dare say this comes a close second though, like it's in the top.
I don't know what I'm doing. Every song happens on my playlist. Yeah, I know I've shown the movie as well, but that's my first year's, but I think up there for music used, pulp fiction as well. Oh shit, yeah, yeah, yeah.
I think with that, Tarantino, this is um, oh no, this is for other notes that I did earlier, I was missing this Tarantino's favorite film, it's not, this is something completely different, but no, Tarantino is so good at, like you can put your personal feelings aside with regards to these movies, but his soundtrack is fucking phenomenal. Like Kill Bill 1 and 2, Robert Rodriguez, I can't remember, I think it's a mixture on the first one, but Robert Rodriguez takes the lead a lot in Kill Bill volume 2 with the soundtrack, because if you didn't know, he's not just a director, he's also a musician as well, he's a very fucking good one. Um, whole fiction. He plays some of his industrial, the one as well, I think so.
He also plays some of the music in Mandalorian, so I think that he does, he's an amazing unspanished guitar, he's fucking phenomenal. That's the one, uh, well I'm just, I'm laughing at Chris here, sorry. I'm just talking about it. Oh, good, men, grilling volleyball, if I wanted to hear that, I'd sit up.
I feel like you don't actually hear the grilling. You don't want, but that is actually one of the most iconic scenes in movie history, when you look, when you go through lists of iconic scenes and movies, this will always come, oh, oh my god, he's doing it. Oh my gosh, it's been a while. You gotta get all glistened up mind, they all got, uh, oiled up.
Do not get oiled up. You said the trouble, you were going to be playing with the boys so. I think it was bad enough that I've got to sit in the podcast for Lee. Sorry, I haven't given you any use.
I mean, you know, what it is. Yes. But for myself, the movie is with like, amazing movie soundtrack. I think I would go for something more modern.
Like, I mean this is like the top of me. But then more modern I would go for Guardians of the Galaxy. The first one. Yeah.
That brought back having the mason sum tracks, because I think at a kind of steel for a while in cinema. Again, I love the soundtrack for Guardians of the Galaxy, but was that not like a... Because the soundtrack didn't move the story along. That was just music that was put in at certain times.
It didn't change the way you felt in the movie, it didn't change the tone of the movie. It was just like you were listening on, but with Top Gun, when they used certain songs, you knew something was going to happen or there was a change in tone or there was a change in thing where Guardians of the Galaxy was just like... I'm a good time listener, good music. It was just a really good fucking playlist put together.
I think the only time that there's any raw emotion, like from the music that's being played is Yondu's death in the second one. My father and son gets played. That hits the chord. And there's a couple in Volume 3 that just...
They're quite powerful, especially the Florence and the Machine song at the end. That hits the note, but again, it's just a really good fucking playlist. The movies that are getting it completely wrong, who have tried to follow that kind of way of doing things and keeping away from the likes of what Top Gun did, where music was based on the emotion you were mentally feeling. So the score directs you where to go.
People who get it totally wrong is Aquaman, whoever put that fucking soundtrack together needs fucking Byron. It is a terrible soundtrack. And the Snidecote. Brilliant for that.
We were talking to me down the corner about this the other day. Snidecote, really good movie. Soundtrack. Walking terrible.
Yeah. No, and going back to the certain movies as well, like Flash Gordon. Like absolutely unbelievable soundtrack. Donna hit one in the chat as well, Highlander.
Anything with Queen basically. But no, the Rocky franchise, not just the Rocky, the Rocky franchise. Rocky 4 has the best soundtrack that is in my top tier. Every song on that soundtrack is in my playlist.
I was like half an hour montage of just Emmys and songs with Rocky, playing an oboe and upset. I even have the train in montage, you know. Do, do, do, do, do, do, do, do. I watched that at least once a month.
I'm always in the art. I'm in the music company now. I'll listen. I'm going to go to the gym and sign up and then ten minutes later, I'll go and put a pizza on the other side.
That's an interesting discussion. Probably we'll go to have another day at a time or something. It's like different soundtracks. Like, soundtracks are good music playlists or actual that help the movie go along.
Because then you can talk about like movies like going back to the old ones, like Jaws, The Exist, where they use the soundtrack, not to have a good playlist, but to try and change the feel. Like, I know it's something as similar as Chew Bell, but how many different ways that the play Chew Bia Bells are introduced to music in the access is masterful. Chew Bia Bells is almost innocent. It's very innocent.
It's very, how would you best describe it? It's like Kenny Rogers playing country music. It's that kind of innocence. And then you put it against one of the most amazing, in my opinion, and best horror movies of possession ever made.
And it changes the whole feel of what that music was meant to be released for. It is fucking brilliant how they turned that around on The Exist. But Jaws is the same. Jaws has such a, it's so low.
Everything's nothing's high-pitched. Everything's quite monitor and quite law to where that's the mood you need to be sitting in to watching. And not saying that you're depressive kind of mood, but just on your fucking guard mood. But it's not just the music that's played.
It's when they're giving the do the she-santies, like, starting in the comments in, I'm tired and I want to go to bed. It's kind of like bringing a change of mood. It's giving put you in like a CSPs. Yeah.
I love the CSPs. And that's why. I love when movie scores can do that to you. They can make it, because you are guided by a movie score to where you need to, where your emotions and where you need to be feeling.
But then they flip it on you. And for a few seconds, they make you feel like, this is okay. I have a really good one who does it as well is Darren Aroski's Demons. Yes.
Because Demons has a fucking hell of a soundtrack. You've got Saxon and all sorts played in there and it all fits the tone of the movie. But at the end, at the end credits, he like, oh, thanks shit. We're out of this now.
No, you're not. No, you're not. While the credits are going up, so much is going on in the background. And the music that's played is like amped up to a thousand.
It is, oh, it's phenomenal how it does it. And it is a really good conversation to have of movies, movies playlists, right? Maybe playlists versus a movie actual soundtrack. Yeah.
And I think if someone gets it right, it changes the movie. As he said with this one, if we didn't have the soundtrack, this movie wouldn't have worked. It would have just been Tom Cruise being a prat. And I would want to put on a register for some of his behavior in this as well.
Look at that little dickhead from legend. I can't see it. It's a very solid Steve out of this one. And he's even a brilliant one.
I just pointed out. Honestly, yeah. Because I remember a legend when we were watching it, I was thinking, all right, because Top Gun's after this. And this is the last you see of original Tom, because I thought top gun was Hollywood, Tom.
Yeah. And watching it today on my 75 inch, telling you not, and I'm like, well, I know how you were done. Getting a unibrow sword. And why didn't somebody sort it out?
Sure. I would rehand out a five. Go for the lead because we're not what you're gonna get it. So lay what would you give it seven or five?
Five. Full marks. So why would that get full marks? That's it.
Yeah. It's just, it's such a simple movie. It gets to the point it's got nonstop action that gives you non-stop action that keeps you hooked all the way through. All the one line is amazing, the soundtrack's amazing, and just everything is beautiful.
It's a nicely polished movie as well. Compared to full metal track, it's like the realistic, like the set before where it's like, oh, this shit is scary. This shows more as like a fun time. And it makes you want to do it.
And that's all we want, Lee. That's all we want. That's all we want. That's all we want.
I want to become a naval pilot. Well, look at the body of jumpsuit. I mean, all your listeners won't be able to say this, but he did compile a video of himself in his jumpsuit if you want to go and check that out. I don't know why he wasn't singing or talking in that video.
It's because he had tonsillitis. So we've got to say we have a full record today. I've still got it. I can't give you anything like cough and every now and then.
And that's what the rattle and mausage at the beginning. I forgot to take me antibiotics. It's fine. You're taking them.
What about you, Sammy? What do you want to give it? I originally was going to give it a three. Right.
And I'm going to change it. All right. I have a big jump. In the massive jump.
That was my initial thought before watching it, because again, I've watched it before. And it was very shapes and figures, and it's not really paying attention. Oh, yeah. The music's good.
But today watching it, I watched it before I started reading about it. And when I was watching, I was paying attention for the first time. And it was so good. The acting is like, I got to give Tom Cruise his props when it comes down to emotional acting because he got me in the fields quite a few times.
He's trying to do what I have seen men in the UK do with a stipple-belip and try and keep it all bottled in. And he did that absolutely perfect. And the whole background on this movie is so fascinating. And the detail of it, the true to life, it's very coming.
The name he made absolutely sure of that, because I didn't want any of this movie to be shown in a bad light. I just got a lot out of it today. I really, really enjoyed it. So I need to give it that five.
Cool. Very nice. I'm going to be the awkward one and give it a four. It's not a perfect score.
The reason I dropped the reissue. The reason I got the reissue. The reason I got the reissue. And again, not saying it's a bad movie, because it isn't brilliant moving, I do love it.
And it's one of the better movies that I've come out with. And it started a whole way of movies that came afterwards. The only reason it's losing this point is the very awkward sex scene, which if they take that out, I would have been happier. Also Kelly McInnes looks beautiful, but her acting isn't up there with the others as well.
It's kind of like every time she speaks, it's kind of like, oh, you've just changed the mood. I'm not, I'm not, I have a fail in it. Or, yeah, which is like, I, which delivers the line as well. And it's just caught him.
I wanted to tell you, I didn't want them to know that I had falling for you. And the most impassioned. And the most impassioned. And the most impassioned.
And the most impassioned. And like, that's the moment where you want to like, like cool and everything. And it's kind of like, fend off your soul. So as a cool car, and she'd make kills a few people driving it.
But like, he, it's the passions not there. And it, it, you know, I was gone for the second one. And Jennifer Connolly is this gentleman? Yeah.
It's so funny. Yeah. Yeah. You can actually see why that he fell on over Jennifer Connolly in this movie.
Um, yeah, but Jennifer Connolly in any movie. That's amazing. She's gotten over the bulge of air labyrinths as well. So it's all good.
I managed to get past that. Not many people did. It's Paul. She's Paul.
She married to Paul Bette, didn't she? Yes. Oh, she's a lucky lady. He's a lucky man.
But yes. So yes, I, I can't give it a perfect score because the elements I would change. And as, as you said before, I want to give a perfect score if there's nothing I would change in the movie. I think it's a fair, fair comment.
So yes, so that is our little review of top con. I know we've not, we've kind of just talked about how we felt about the movie a little more rather than like the. I mean, I'm, I've kind of read more of the IMDB. I guess you don't have to go and do it yourselves afterwards.
Bless you. What's coming up this week, then, Sammy? Oh, well, tomorrow we are. It's a very different movie.
It's a very different 80s movie. We are looking at the grotesque basket case. Oh, very good. I thoroughly enjoyed recording this episode.
And for a movie, which to look at, you would think, Oh, that's it. What is the strange choice? And to can't be a lot of information on it. Not the case.
I had reams and reams of facts on this one. And there's a lot of tangents in here. So be prepared for that. But it was such a fun episode to do just to have a laugh and just talk about a fabulous film, again, because whatever the end production was, the film, the film inside of it was incredibly fascinating to get to know about.
Oh, I did. I was about three sequels afterwards. I came out with it, as well. There was it is.
Class one of the most cult classic movies in horror. Yes. It even has merchandise. That's how well this movie has done in its time.
It has some merchandise. So that is basket case tomorrow on YouTube at eight o'clock audio for that episode. This episode and all the rest of this week's podcast. it has been a busy week will be available on a Tuesday.
Yes, I'm not a chance yet. We did have two episodes go out yesterday. Tunes up north when I figured Saturday morning fun where me and Jake talked about the Disney's cartoon gargoyles. That was a lot of fun.
I enjoyed revisiting that from my youth. It's a groundbreaking cartoon well ahead of its time. If you haven't seen it go and watch on Disney Close. The first season is brilliant.
After that it goes to be crazy so give it a stew. Next Saturday we are talking about one of the most eighties cartoons that was ever made. I'm quite brave to be made as well because if you remember doing Satanic Panic lots of Dungeons and Dragons was always not locked on in the same way but the Dungeons and Dragons cartoon. We will be watching the first episode but we will be revisiting the fan-made final episode that was used on the script that was wrote to finish off the season but was never actually filmed called Requiemath I believe.
The episodes are on YouTube so you can check it out and we will be talking about that next Saturday. I know the Trek and Boys will be back on Wednesday. I don't know. Sorry Friday.
Friday yes. Also if you haven't checked out the women of nerd culture episode when I was last night they were talking about hashtag gaming girls and that culture and the games that kind of work. Talking about lovely Sarah, better and lovely Sammy, doing it for the girls instead of doing it for the boys. Check that out on YouTube as well and then next Sunday we are back with Sammy's birth here.
We are talking about her choice movie The Fugitive. I did not kill my wife and we are joined. Next to anyone who is in the North East of England who wants to come to a monster of a quiz. I'm sorry when I did that.
Graham is holding his second quiz. Keep a check. Yes, finally. It's time to be the clock.
It's going to be based on horror so if Sammy loses this one we can give her a lot of shit because she's meant to be the horror queen. It's also my birthday as well so be very nice if everyone can come down and celebrate my birthday with me and watch me win the quiz. Well at least not going to be the lead as well. All these are coming.
It's my mum's birthday party as well. So who's my mum or Sammy? Well the man gave life to us but Sammy can take it away so it's a difficult choice. I don't know if she is.
It's the 13th and the 14th of the month's birthday. The 17th but it's just picked the weekend. I'm not even aware. No I'm only talking.
You did say well in advance you would not free that weekend. So what you do is a short round that is Chris is going to be looking for the trophy this time as well. So that should be interesting. You can jog on.
Me and him had it out the last time and he didn't win. There was a point in it and he got that. He was ahead of us. So let's just see.
I'm bringing reinforcements. I'm bringing my husband. So just to say I'm just trying to say I'm just trying to find the battles. So just to finish off with like say we've talked about talkums or we're revving up our engines.
Listen to the howling roll. Metal under tension begging you to touch and go. How way to the danger zone. Danger zone.
I have the need the need for speed. So yes anything you want to pull before we go early? Um well a couple of things I just want to just remind anyone I did mention Daze of Thunder earlier on. Honest it's a really good recommendation with film.
It's just Top Gun with Cars. It's got Tom Cruise. Michael Rooker. Kerry Els.
It's Adam how you pronounce his name. They call it Ken. Sorry. Sorry Els.
Well it's a fucking amazing. It's the movie that he called Ken and Tom Cruise met and banned in real life. So yes. Who were Nicole Kidman?
What a film. For the audio listeners come and check out the video because Paul does have his top off. And Lee isn't it's a play to. Well Lee's on a play to too.
I mean it's worth a comment to say that as for audio listeners. Because we keep forgetting about our audio listeners. They can't see all the shinders against that goes on on screen. They've had a lot of songs and so they can appreciate that as well.
So yes. Um but yes. I might be streaming Thursday. Yeah.
Do you want a lot better? So I probably could. Do you want to twitch? Can I see you?
I'll talk about it again. Or is Giggs on on Thursday? No. I don't know.
I don't know. I don't know what she is. So you mentioned that some might be recorded tomorrow so we will find out. Oh okay.
And that's that. Yeah and the last thing I just want to apologize for. Well those are very serious moments during this podcast where it was talking about grief and dealing with death and things like that. I couldn't not laugh because Donna.
They've ruined the chat. Lee looks like an 80s porn star. Are we having a serious moment? This is a moment for us to be laughing.
She's talking about really sorry. So I hope you've enjoyed late tonight. This is his final put up help payments on the media podcast. We will replace them with someone more wholesome.
Jewel who would probably be more talk about Princess Diana and how the Titanic ruined Top Gun. Yes. It's fair to see she would have seen this one, Jewel. Yes.
She would have. She did write that I went and then did it just not do. Oh my god. And on that note, see you in bad times, see you in bad channel.
Oh stay nerdy everyone. Bye.
