live hi everyone and welcome to the Nelly Up North Podcast. It's a Nelly Podcast and it's hosted by Northern Nords. I am one of your horse Sam. And I'm the other horse Paul and tonight we are joined by a very special person and I'm very excited to announce the return of Captain Goodwill.

It's been a morning. I thought you were joking. I thought you were going to leave it. And it's sunny and I'm like oh no no it's not.

Every week. And so a sunny, sunny is kind of like after the, like after the December. I know, I'm like a bad smell. Yes, so we are joined by the beautiful Sonja as well with their luscious purple hair.

I was like blue hair I don't know why. And we have a very special guest Nelly Up North Podcast debut. I was going to say not for the channel though because he has been on the Trek and Boys, the sexy Trek and Boys a few guys. So yes, we've got Mark from the, who produces the shuttle pod show.

So thank you very much Mark. And just a, with being a new guest to the podcast as well. Tell us a little bit about yourself. Give us your Nelly credentials Mark.

Me? Yes. I don't know. I grew up a giant Star Trek fan.

I found out when I was a very small child. I dressed up as one captain or another for Halloween. Over the years growing up, I was very I wasn't secret about it, but it was my private little thing. I love chess.

I love games. I love math. You know, space, rockets. I want to die on Mars.

It's my dream to open the first bar on Mars. I'm trying to convince Erica. So I know I got out of this Star Trek fan a couple of years ago. And now that we're making the shuttle pod show, I think.

Can I really get weird from it? Yes. I guess it's my thing though. Everyone has to have a thing and it tracks not a bad thing to have as Captain Goodwill will shout to the ends of the Earth about and ever leave us other one about as well.

So yes, so Sammy, do you want to take two little things? Oh, we're going to do our little things. So got to ask the big question. How are you all doing him?

What, he's being watching? Sounds even more cringy doesn't he? No, anyone watching anything interested in this week? There has been a return of a show.

These are happy to know that the moonshine is as bach. Yes. It's bach. It's bach for season 13.

13 shades of the Americans drinking moonshine in the backwards. So 13 years of making booze. Yep. And they've not been arrested for enough.

So that's how real it is but yeah I'll give you a proper review after a few ups because there's only been two episodes in and a hint of like fist fights in this season as well so I'm very excited but other than that I've just been watching season two of the trailers as well so car crash TV is number one but in the house of what's not the moment awesome I haven't started trailers yet season two is getting there not as good a season one yeah but season two has been there what about you captain mr good will have you been watching anything fun oh god I have been trying to catch up on literally everything I haven't watched in the last two and a half years I have got all but the tv movie of archer to finish because I'm a huge archer fan and why have we not done an episode about it yet just the pleasure really I think no I'm not getting sorted I love hitched I love hitched on Benjamin I love archer I just one of my best animations of all time um other than that I finished one piece right awesome um and I'm literally just trying to catch up on on everything that I you know what do you think oh I've got a backlog and I can get it done and then you go oh oh there is actually like there is decades worth of episodes to catch up on so then I just started watching Star Trek and mr science 83000 I've been going for walks I've left the house I've encountered other humans well done this thing called scenery in the park I've been feeding the squirrels and pretty soon I shall be able to tame the species and command them for my own evil deeds right that's been too fair though there was an episode of navy in the anise you watched that with the dogs he thought they were friendly the wallet war against us good well the squirrels will overthrow you don't I did watch it I did swan at swan at a tucker child I did nothing about it because the child will learn from this experience and gain so yeah don't you go over the swans when you go up to a swan and go take this from my hand and they bite you and you just like mmm sorry so random heart walks with good well I think that's a new podcast when I was getting video on just taking these walks it can be the new Alice Curl form coming during Captain Godel as he walks through the bushes yes I see how long that series last time you've been watching anything interesting um you know usually I'm quite bad not watching stuff I go through phases where I binge a lot and then I just tend to like abstain from anything other than shit YouTube shorts and I'm like I need to sort my head out my life I would stop with this short form crap but this past week I've actually watched quite a lot which is resumes while I watched in the tall grass I think it was cold she's quite good oh yeah and then I followed that up with evil dead rise which I absolutely loved loved loved loved and obviously I've watched serenity as well and then cocky made me start watching for the first time ever the exiles first time ever I've never been I never got into it when I was young and I never like felt the need to go back and watch it but cocky like you must watch it we must watch it um so I finally got to see I know right I love it I think one Disney plus I've never even mastered it as well so it's all shiny and you yes it's on Disney plus yeah so I'm still on the fence we haven't finished season one yet but I don't hate it because I don't know it's not you will you're seeing in the chat you hear this little tombs comes in tombs makes it more interesting as well um well but you some of you've been watching anything fun oh we're still on the always sunny train and we watched on Friday Oppenheimer all right which was it was so good really interesting it was the who's who of Hollywood you jumped the scene and you were there was just so many stars in front of your eyes and I had a did really enjoy it and I was I was very fixated on it because it's one of those films where I felt like if I blinked I'd missed something and then the whole film would just be completely ruined and it did feel like it was shot like JFK right yeah that's the style that I kind of got from it so I can all this long shot that's kind of like how I got from it yeah I mean people might disagree with this but that's I only watched the UK again recently and it just it just was scene scene scene scene but it was so good so interesting we've also been watching um oh god what's the bad delirty v show card? Oh my god yes so we've been watching that I mean really really enjoying it and that's about it we just we we've we're not if we're just sitting in the living room chilling it's always sunny it's one of the background just keep going what were you Mark have you watched anything of interest or anything other than trek other than trek we just watched the five seasons of Silicon and the last couple of days I love Silicon Valley. It's like the last week I mean we've been you know staying home trying to get healthy trying to not get anyone else sick uh yeah so you know oh and we watched uh both seasons of white lotus uh just before that which was awesome I've not seen that yet is it I've heard great things it's amazing uh yeah I wish I well I actually take it back I wish I'd watch it sooner but I'm glad that when I finally watched it we were able to watch two seasons instead of just one and then everything. I know uh next week I'll probably be talking about because I know true detective comes back with Jordy Foster I'm very excited about that as well so yeah I know a few seasons of true detective has been after the first one just not season one yeah but um I'm quite intrigued by this one would have been out in the wilderness and in the and if Jordy Foster goes full Chloe Starling I'll be very much interested in that short but yes so Sammy do you want to do your world famous display on whether?

Oh the one that was heard on the BBC. I've said that for a while. Did you not know? I've been told yet.

It was twice actually twice. So everything to listen to this episode is our opinions and our opinions alone if you like to discuss anything from the episode please come and join us on the Facebook page the comment section on the discord and we can have an open discussion but what we won't have is anyone comment for us and tell us our opinions are wrong we can all agree to disagree in fandom so let's keep it fun to be kind to keep the toxic behaviour out of a notism. Very well said there and just to say thank you to everyone in the chat as well you and all we're having really acknowledges at the moment just because there is so many of you so I'll probably not keep up with you devians tonight so hello you I recognize you. Oh it's them.

I'm you. Okay they got you. Yes so tonight's episode is a very special episode and all when we did the Firefly episode me and Goodwill got very excited and Sam just basically watched me and Goodwill nerd out for quite a long time. It was fun.

You did it. It was beautiful. What was I on? You just riding the highs of Firefly and I think it was good well one point as well because you were like the early stages of finding yourself in in this world.

Is that what broke in my goal? Yes yes that's what unleashed this awful human being. So yeah so when me and Sam decided we were going to start doing reviews for movies TV shows just to change it up from like the normal stuff we still want to podcast this was always on the top list that I wanted to kind of revisit and talk about just because the movie is special and and I know I've got two of the biggest trackies on this podcast here and I don't know if that them but this is probably my favourite sci-fi and crew and my favourite captain all in one and together so and I get it. This is my job.

Like a space lesson. You can take Star Wars. I love Star Wars but this is better. I'm not gonna lie.

What do you guys think when we got serenity because I know I felt like a long time after Firefly but it was only three years. Five hundred two thousand two. That's five. 2002 2003 first season one of Firefly and then this came out in all five which I felt a long time but when you think about it's not really because TV shows now go and hire us for two years.

Yeah so we've got longer for some of them. Yeah try to give a thrones. Try to spare them. Straight of things.

Yeah straight of things. Yeah that's the way. But you hell. You know I love the tagline.

Can I give you one of my favourite taglines from this movie? Yes. There was many and you've used quite a few of them in the promotion of the podcast but the one that you never used and this is my all-time favourite this is one river you do not want to cross. I love a tagline.

I'm on a universal one. That's the one. That's the one that smashes out the park but yeah yeah everything every other one was it's very much what you've already used. I can't stop the signal.

Spaced pirates on the run. They armed. She's dangerous. You will never take this time from me.

They aim to misbehave the river one. I was decked when I read that one. Jesus. So some of you've got a little bit of a different perspective to this than because you I know you're a big 5-5 and you said this was your comfort.

I'm sorry certainly fun just because this was your comfort movie for a period. How did you come across this without watching Firefly or was it just probably just a trailer that came up and at the time I used to go to cinema like religion like really all the time so it's probably just a trailer that came up and saw it in the cinema so many times the minute it came out on DVD had to have it and it was me me pitch perfect movie. Everyone knows the story I watched pitch perfect for nearly six months to a year every day. This was it.

I used to watch this all the time. It was so weird. We had re-watching it today and thinking I know I know what the next week's gonna say even though I've not seen this movie in years. I could still do the chords and I was like I loved it and I never realised the time on the first watch and that it had anything to do with the TV series.

That's how good of a movie it is. That it's kind of like it's its own thing. It didn't need to rely on the TV and lovely that it has the references for people who are 5'5' but it didn't take away from my experience of not being a 5'5' fan. I think you're trying to say that fast.

I think good with yourself the stuff before we went live as well. This is pretty much a self-contained story in itself. It kind of closes a few I see a few things that we want like a few stories and few arcs that we wanted closure with but it was yeah a dilemma really because obviously Serenity was hideously cancelled way before it's time because Fox just did not know what to do with it and law ratings and it was just messed about from the start. This was sort of like hey we're gonna do right by the fans that was also trying to bring people in so almost immediately as a movie starts.

Hey this is what happened to Earth this is why they're here this is what's this and it's sort of you know it helped bring in new people and I was that whole first that whole opening sequence that whole first 15 minutes where they they establish the the universe of the show and the crew and the ship and how wonderful it is yet how kind of falling apart it is and all the dynamics that's so well that done that first 15 minutes I just I'm obsessed with it. I'm really glad that you're talking about that. It's it's absolutely I mean for me I watched it in all five I was a five five and I knew fire fire everyone everyone in the chat now is saying fire fire plan. So that's what I was talking about.

So working at all five this was like all five for me was was quite desolate when it came to like stuff to watch and everything Enterprise had finished and you know there was the wasn't much apart from that star in five like so this came out and I was like this is amazing and for me for what I love it was the after we had the universe establishing backstory and river of scape and we then got the single shot all the way through of Simon and Mal walking along the ship and I was like this is brilliant and they made like the transition looks seamless and I was like this is it's a fantastic bit of direction and just just basically say this is like this is how big the ship is you can walk because the original set was fully constructed in the gameplay. Yeah this was just you had this universe establishing thing and then you had this single shot and then they landed on the planet and it was just saw I know a lot of people who got into firefly because of serenity really because of the first like marks of the first 15 minutes of the movie where you just got this instant dynamic of these people where you know Mal and wash you know like you know how it's like yeah and but you got the torn you got the dynamic of all these people and a lot and a lot of people when I was at university doing TV production got into firefly because of serenity and it was it was just like oh yeah I love the way they did this I love the effects I love the acting I love uh near the fillian and it was yeah it was brilliant for me this is a perfect summer block will start a perfect summer movie yeah to watch where you know you got a nice cool drink and you can just sit and you don't have to watch firefly you can just sit and watch this and be just like yeah that's why i love it as well because some nailed it it's basically it's full of five five fans but it's also for the like five five fans and also the like just the regular cinema go on because this is as you said it's a fun action movie with action sci-fi western it ticks all the boxes but it gives you like the emotion in it as well not many films can hit because the first like even the first five minutes when you get the rivers and simons story and it's like kind of like saw clever how to give you it like you think it's like in the moment but when you find out it's a recording and then you've got like say the the the the the assassin that's going through makes everything and his rationale behind it as well is so clinical he saw deadpan and but he's amazing actor oh i can never say sorry i can never say sorry i can't say it i can't say it i can't um i think i find it interesting to make a link you said Nathan Drake i don't know if you intentionally meant to say Nathan Drake earlier i actually wrote i actually wrote in my notes why didn't Nathan Billy and ever play Nathan Drake what is hollywood's problem so he for the longest time when uncharted came out and uncharted most specifically when uncharted two came out everyone wanted an uncharted movie and they said you need Nathan Billy because uh no the north uh no the north's voice sounds like Nathan Billy and a lot of people said you need you need phillian you need phillian as Drake and as it went on it was more and more apparently it wasn't going to happen and then they did a fan flick uh an uncharted fan film starring Nathan Billy and one of the running gags i had on twitch which really annoyed people because they believed i believed it was true was that i always said oh there should be an uncharted movie with Nathan Billy and people were like but there was one with tom holland and i just played he refused my knowledge i just had this conversation many a times yeah i always associate phillian with Drake even down to the haircut in serenity it's it's bang on Nathan Drake but do you know what i think that goes against phillian though at times as well um just because the fans seem to want them cast him pretty much any role that goes in for that and all when hal jordan was possibly roman as a round like literally the internet got up in arms and said he asked me cast us hal jordan and when he wasn't like an all like a great man film i thought i thought it was as bad as an iron island said it did a good job but it was it was it was something and choices were made but i think because phillian did his voice did me for a really long time in the dc animated movie is that everyone was up in arms i probably was included to be felt i love anything that phillian's been involved in like i loved that actual i was at two guys in a pizza and a pizza shop i was like when i was introducing him and he was still scary as villain in the Buffy universe as well when he got cast there for the amount of years he was Johnny Terus that's all we knew about because that's his character in two guys in a pizza place we didn't almost anything else until he became calib yep no no he was in five five first and i got cast but i don't know that part yet i don't know if i just dropped all the i bypassed it above your angel because he's like i need to use them somewhere oh yeah that's right i keep again i keep it completely when i was reading about this today i just kept ignoring the fact that he had anything to do with this i was like just scratching that part it's a testament to phillian's performance that within 13 episodes he was forever known as mal renals yeah the perfect captain he will always be my captain sorry good well you should be your husband right now i do like in name incon men with their allentergic that they used nolan north and nathan billion having this kind of like rivalry that was really funny but you can tell how much nathan phillian loves this because even in castle you like there was a like in jork when he was dressed as halloween as uh as captain renals as well but son yeah so what was your introduction to are you with fire fire fan first or are you in this serenity it's it's a really uh it's a really odd one for me so i saw serenity first but saw it in passing did not pay attention did not really appreciate what it was then got into firefly and then was like i think i've seen a film of these characters in it but really could not remember the film so unlike some who saw somebody which made them watch firefly mine was a total fluke um and then after the show i was like well i need to go back and watch that film now and then the second time i watched it i was like okay i've appreciated this so much more now that i've seen the show so it's it's a really funny one i think my brother got that we had like a love film i can't wait you could rent dvd love film yeah love films i think you're in great and really so like i'd seen it but i haven't quite appreciated what it was like i've not really paid attention so yeah watched firefly absolutely loved it was devastated that it didn't end um and then yeah it kind of dawned on me and i think joh mentioned something about serenity and i was like wait that's right yeah that's the film of this show right it managed to connect the dots it's like i need to go back and watch that now and i went firefly finishing then they announced that they were doing serenity i was like great they'll type all the loose notes they'll close all the everything that you want to know but you didn't quite get that with this movie as well like they did end the story arcs and the parts that they wanted to but like there was still a lot more and i know people talk about the get them from in the boogs or in the comics and stuff but again it's always difficult to pick them up and i go from there and know that like that in and out but it would have been so easy to film the continue the story or continue in the verse as the characters were so rich and so like engaging and lovely but one thing i did notice after rewatching this i know i've watched this movie so many times i've never like because i knew we're gonna talk about it so i was like right but i'm gonna get in growth so i'm gonna concentrate but the mile we get in serenity is a completely different mile well not completely but like it is quite far away from the mile that we've got in firefly yeah he's almost broken a lot more than i expect and then it's like little subtle nuances and little things i can do and realize and because i know when when he's having the conversations we're both going to talk about like the aspects he's like got no belief he's just busy holding on with the threads and i didn't realize this till watching it back how different uh mile was in it and that kind of caught me out a little bit do you think he's got something to do with an hour leaving because this is six months after the events of the season that you know he's struggling with the absence of an hour on the ship so he's more solid he's more reflective and like you said he just feels like he's hanging on by a thread but that's i can't talk about that before he slept with that last sort of mistake i do i do get what you mean with like you can you can tell there's something different about him because i have watched a bit of firefly and he is very cheeky chappy in that one he just seems a very um down down trodden serenity serenity serenity desperate as well as well that's it's a desperation and i think he re sorry i was gonna say i think he realizes what he's up against this time is like a different cutler fish compared to what he's been up against to before but he still can't give up that old weirs of being like it's still a water and he's still fighting the battle of serenity still not not like they're leaving the man down even like saying aspects like he has changed but um when that scene where um when we first see river gore full power mord and gore just absolutely crazy in that passing which is one of the best fight choreographed scenes as well you can tell that like say some of us like dancing background came into that as well because her movements and floor jurren that was just absolutely beautiful to watch i did not know she was a dancer that's really in my life i didn't have a sword of angel as a ballet dancer she broke her she broke a tour and it ended a career so she went into acting did you know the the second fight towards the end that she does the cameraman is also a dancer right they choreographed the sequence oh okay so cool i because i actually wrote in my notes is she is she actually dancing or fighting at this point i can't quite tell because she was a fluid emotion is amazing and by the way it is a hard feat to keep a strappy dress off like she did in them fight moves girl that's that's hard i really i really appreciate how many fight scenes if you've been in sami where you're strappy dressers like she's ron sunderland i don't need to be in a fight so you just need to actually move around and move all the way down i do think that going back to what you were saying about maul i think there's an element of it being a film as well but in the show we progressively see him soften some and you get these odd moments where someone wrongs him and he reminds you like look i'm not to be messed with but he's still someone who cares and has heart and that's him at his core but the film has the kind of put him back at the beginning of that in terms of look at this hard man who doesn't care and as the film progressive oh no way he does care so it almost has to reverse a lot of his development throughout firefly and that's for the new arfans i think no good point good point i know one of my favorite i know it's not part of serenity but my favorite one of the best moments of mal is in front of the engine where he's telling the story and he's like oh don't worry i'm gonna hunt you down so he boots the boots in the engine it's shorter how ruthless he is and how like just none like you think he's a nice guy nice guy's don't do that but nor he's out for survival he's out for him and he's crew or him and his as he would put it but um but yeah you kind of forget that about him because he has got that kind of charm he's kind of got the goodwill charm where you when you all know no matter what you know he's not also gonna be like just kind of ruthlessly kills a number of people without betting an eye yeah in the movie i'm not to throw obviously but like and it's shocking in the movie but you're right you don't really it's not it doesn't seem cold-hearted because he's so charismatic and charming him so you know we we we've been on his journey and know where what his struggle is and why you know yeah we want him to we want to believe that he's a good person yeah wrapped up in in his struggle right no definitely and the overall stuff like because we all put this movie as well it's probably a rivers movie it's her story and getting to the point of what had happened to her and how she was like trying to mend herself as well by getting getting the thoughts or getting the memories out of her head by going to Miranda as well and i loved how they tied up the the raves i don't know if that was the plan all the way for the show and if it was always on a go that way because they were always like going to be the bogeyman or the bad like the bad thing in the background that you know they talked about what you never really saw and it was quite jarring to see them in person as well because it wasn't quite what i was expecting but it was more violent as well which i think they had balls to go with yeah the makeup was absolutely unreal like that was that was terrifying that's almost horror-ish the way that the makeup was done and i feel like michael i don't know if it was you but i was just having this conversation recently about the readers specifically and how in the show they were literally the bogeyman right yeah we really saw them they were just they were kind of in the background as this you know thing um and then in the movie you see them finally and it's like ash you know every time you see them it's disappointing because in your mind it's like some specter some potential alien ghost universe sort of thing that we can't even comprehend but then in the movie it's like just zombies you know people who have succumbed to some sort of genetic manipulation and you know cut their faces open and they're basically fallout raiders in space and which you know which is awesome it shows as a fan of firefly and the you know the specter bogeyman edge of the universe my mind was something so different um it's yeah i was always a little disappointed by it it's an amazing it's still amazing all right i think i understand that though i think with the tv series though the reavers were very much in the background all the time like i i sort of compare it to uh mass effect where the reapers were in the background or for most of the games but there were uh you know enemies in the for you know in the foreground that you needed to deal with in a series we had them in suits where we saw them like yes with the blue gloves you know the as i called them the NHS care workers of the 26th century they walk in and everyone just starts bleeding from their eyes which is not far from the truth and it's uh that was sort of they were the big bad and throughout the series the big bad of firefly was the the the alliance it was it was parliament it was the central government they were the big bad because we are on you know we are on the side of the ground courts the ground courts lost and you know it's it's about uh a soldier's uh story of you know it's a soldier's journey finding a way in this new life they lost they have to get over they have to deal with it and that was a big bad the reavers are always in the background yes we got stories here and there well then this was started like okay you want to see the reavers we will show you the reavers and then we will also show you what how they were created and i think the way that they were they were created as well is more monstrous than actual reavers well then it it ties back to the real monsters are the alliance yes you've got these big bads who will tell you are still alive while you're still there very much like tesco shoppers on a Saturday it's it's more they they were created because this government this evil government wanted to control a population to such an extent and it just more mentally backfired on them yeah again the big evil was the scene where these two evils meet yeah that was it was some of my babes yeah like star wars because i only wish to have a scene like that as well like because star wars wants to have like when they do like the modern day star wars they want these big battles they say you watch your mind but when you see the face come together like that it's amazing just more because you kind of think that's going to happen but when it does it beats your expectation in that element it's the assassins kind of and it's where despite the fact that he's probably one of my favorite i'm taggingist in terms of just like how was that before clinical and methodically is he's also working for the alliance which means he's got bravado and he's got like he thinks he's better than he is and for a split moment he thinks he's won and i love that i love that he's like he's almost quite glib concert and he's not even changing and then you see all of that the reavers come through and it's just that instant phase change of like oh god oh no like what do we do now like i love it so much i i use the second or third time he's been um a second or third time that he's thought he's been in control the situation and been proven wrong by mal yeah yeah again if you think about it like um from the topic we were talking about with the actual creation of the reavers again it's about control right so those who try to control need to be reminded throughout the entire film and we as viewers need to be reminded that those who wish to control can't win and i love that i love that it's it's done subtly and it's also done on a bigger scale as well but throughout the entire film it's control it's a whole whole case this whole journey through the whole series of movie mal is trying to find freedom right because it wants independence to brown code and getting as far away from from from civilization so you should have just had a tea party then it would have been all fine i think i'll go going back to when we're on about villains and what what makes a good villain he thoroughly passionately believes yes in what he is doing is right and he even says you know you know it is for a better world world i will not say that i do not belong in but i'm doing it for a better world he believes all the way through and that that's what makes a compelling villain someone that believes what they are doing yeah is morally right absolutely i think what i absolutely loved he was a villain who didn't need to be defeated by being killed he just needed the truth yes i love when a movie can do that that it can make it so believable that he didn't need to be defeated in being killed just simply having it put in front of his fucking eyes and it's about belief it's good all perfectly put it like the big keyword in the whole thing is belief because that's not mal hasn't got any belief he doesn't have any faith in anything he's lost faith in people lost faith in what he's doing and the assassin because you don't actually find out his name i don't believe he's got true belief he thinks what he is doing is right what he is doing is for the greater good he doesn't care what he doesn't care what happens to him he doesn't care what happens to anyone else this is the mission i've got full belief and during the movie you have the crossover because then as he tells mal you can't make me angry and the manor makes the music jokes in spending hour with him and then he finally realizes that he will start stirring up certain emotions because you can see as as mal put it he can't outwit mal like every way he turns because mal is as as nice and crafty as it is he's a very good captain he's a very good commander and he knows what he's doing and he knows how to get where he wants to go and how to play the game and he knows how to not give up exactly perfectly said yes he's one of those guys you know that's one of the reasons i relate to him because i always say like if you want to keep me down you better kill me because i'll keep it of course and mal is like that he gets on every time he gets knocked off the horse he gets back on you're not going to keep it down but that's why i love this movie as well i love the show because it reminds us of so much of what what us guys do is not nearly up north because we're like a ragtag people in a jet engine to do it that's gonna be a hard way it was three times and you will never let it down come on to be fair to the curb but yeah but it's one of the things though because we're a ragtag group of things that's barely keeping ourselves together at times and like i said even before we came on live now Sonya's people are computer crush three times so it's just like so but you want to keep going back and hit on something here that is really um a tie into the thematic premise not just of the movie but at the series at large and you know the idea of you know believing in something or bad guy or antagonist has that belief he has his goal and he's going to achieve it and he's precise and committed and all that mal uh you can't he's the same he's going to achieve his goal when he doesn't know his goal is yeah like he's always just trying to put gas in the ship right he's always trying to make sure they can eat uh and you know it's really poignant that when and that's the midpoint of the movie it's where the the narrative changes to mal sort of fixing his own confronting his own uh tragic character flaw right where where book when book is dying in mounds hands and he says just believe in something i don't care what it is believe in something and that moment changes mal and from then on he's dedicated to exposing uh you know the powers that be in order to free river and his crew from being pursued and and make the deaths of all of his friends now right they immediately find out that all the friends have been killed as well um to make their deaths meaningful yeah and go you know go to Miranda yeah find out what the hell it is and and you know and i love the fact that the movie had balls as well that it did the right deaths it killed the right people at the right time did it well i will talk about the second death later but like the first one washes death was perfectly timed perfectly it was a perfect character to go and help the story and it helped drive the as well and it always left that story you know because you never really found out about like shet the books passed or yeah that's why i think you do you do in the comics yeah yeah i've started online but i'd love to yeah but i prefer it when he says you know when mal says you'll have you seem to know a lot about that world you know you'll have to tell me about that someday and when when book says no i don't yeah should i leave it at that to this day when i see i just watch rewatched this movie again this morning from the eight hundred time and that moment always strikes me and i almost referred that i don't when when he says that i no longer want to know like but that's the story and it has to be cool yeah that the mystery should still remain it should never not all mysteries have to go salt yeah sorry to take a jump on the monsters podcast here like some Michael Maia's effect the fact that you don't like when they try and explain why Michael Maia's is evil you lose the the interest you lose the intrigue it's the fact that he'll leave it open and leave it leave the mystery you fear to think and why did he need more sedation yeah because evil dies tonight michael mister is exciting and yeah it's the same as the conversation about the ravers though i would say that what you can't drop in your mind is always going to be far more outweighing what could be displayed on a screen or written in dialogue like you will always think of something more interesting and more whimsical than what you get at it yeah prevents that disappointment from happening i did read the um the reason why it was them two in the movie they got the the child yeah was to stop at his equals yeah because well they said they wouldn't come back for the sequels i believe them two other ones that said they wouldn't do anymore i just thought that was very sudden sudden point to me just take me out the movie completely but i think i think i was starting to take off with a lot of different roles he was doing but i don't think resident alien oh it's brilliant i'm not even me as him but going back like i said the story and like everything that it does tell like like going through the belief and seeing the change over and across like the crossing of like the beliefs like that where the assassin was losing the belief and how that did that at the end was so well done even though like as he said the foreshadow with missing university or any new he was going to play a part but funny enough as i watched the back yesterday and i never noticed this before and i've watched this maybe so many times i thought i was watching an episode of american horror story when we got them around because sarah paulson was there yes oh yeah i know i had no idea sarah paulson was in well how about the guy that maul shoots as he's being pulled away from reavers is glenn howerton from always on me what yeah dennis excuse me yes yes yes yes the guy who says take me with you tippy with you and then maul shoots him that's dennis i'm gonna have to go and make sure that this is like i didn't know that so the guy went to see us finally so it's fine the the writing in this movie as well yeah very much like the short it's it's absolutely top notch it's those one lineers doesn't unforgettable one line is all the way through even some of them don't even need words where you know when they're going into the vault what's your answer is a password just raise bullets okay but then the site the the the one scene i absolutely love it's when the tension is building on serenity between maul and jane yes and he's getting worse and worse and worse and he goes um do you want to run the shipping because yes i do well you can't it's it's it's a brilliant moment because you never think of heroes having that like oh shit oh oh shit um and he stopped but that was all that was evident all the way through the series like when maul was tortured with wash yeah and then zoy comes and goes leave it this is something the captain needs to do and he's on no i don't oh shit and he's like that the the brilliant little one line is all the way through like oh god oh god we're gonna die i'm a leaf on the wind and stuff like that all these one lineers for a 20 year old movie people still remember all the fruity ordy bar commercial that we were all about before we went live on air yeah that's the thing that's not just point your archesters point that out there oh yeah that's a full five point you should have fortified um and i'm leaving from the wind i had a look at because i was like is that like kind of a court or something and it is a homage to kamma kokalans um i will bend like a read in the wind from dune all right i just made that line because dune i love just made that line just so much more special because i was like is that like a court or something is it something that was from bioply so i had to go and have a look in the way it's a homage to dune and like washes death as well i was like well why is i'll talk about why do you like to think that in hawaiian church die i'm just asking for a friend it's not nor so i can never see face to face ever just like it's fine well it's not you're the pilot of the ship it's fine good okay you can just make it so are you one of the same it's fine um but yeah like the ship to go now please yes but that was so unexpected as well like yeah it hit you more for zoys reaction i think it's one of the few movies where i've been in a cinema and there's been an audible gas because it was such like i leave on the wind look at that but the entire television was just and just no one expected it it was brutal as well there was no like brutal but it was at a time where there was no heartfelt goodbyes there was no goodbye but it was just like he's dead we have to be passive and then it's a few minutes later for for um kelly to go watch yeah yeah but you know i think that's what i absolutely love about zoys and i feel like zoys not spoken about enough is that she was with mal the whole time you know we talk about mal's character and zoys is just a strong and independent character and i think this part of me like i watch this back again i again have seen it about eight of a times but i watch this back again a day and i was like struck by the psychological response to zoey after the fact you know that part of you feels like god she's acting so irrational not even actually but she's acting so like dangerously like she's going to get herself killed because of this grief but actually no like that's how her and mal have always operated that they've they've fought to their last breath and the matter what and um yeah i think that she gets herself sliced in the back but she's also trying to do what's right and protect everybody. touched up by a july shaving form absolutely there's one line that actually you know washes death is horrific and you don't have a chance to actually grieve until the very end but there's one line that really all the way is getting to zoey like it always makes it like i mean it was like starting to tingling like i'm ready to burst into tears when he says are we good and she just goes to the job yeah yeah and i'm like okay zoey but i love the moments of emotion you get with zoey as well because when kud was mentioned about that moment in the ship with jane and mal having when it was getting heated and heated and jane loses his shit and starts bringing up the war and then starts saying oh how many people did you leave on the battlefield then mal and zoey's reaction because it's not mal mal just looks straight through mal's stare could kill any fucker but zoey's reaction is like zoey would you like to leave the room now and it's just like the shot into focus as well was a nice little touch i thought because it was just like everyone expected mal to deliver the rebuttal but he was actually zoey who didn't deliver she just ended it yeah and it was just no the combination is over yeah you just want to leave i do like how zoey is so comfortable to question her captain the conversation that they have about the fact that he left that person behind and what they do but it's rough the booty yeah and i just love how she knows the answer she knows what he's going to say and what the outcome is but she's still comfortable enough to question it and i thought that was i that's a lovely characteristic today to their relationship i think i think a little more a year ago would have done because yeah i was going to say that that was sort of firefly because jane did that same thing didn't he or he ended up becoming a hero because he dropped the booty but actually he dropped the ukulele jane the guitar is in the other room you're also that no but i do think that um again this is the stark contrast to the alliance because you can tell during the war anyone who questioned the alliance would have been shot dead you know that the doctor who lets Simon and river go gets killed despite being stuffed so the fact that mal can be questioned and yes might be annoyed but isn't going to kill his partner for that questioning proves again that they are independent thinkers they aren't being controlled and it's i think how much to their relationship as well because there are moments in the show and the film where you can tell she's a bit scared of his reactions but i don't think she doesn't trust him as a person no absolutely and other characters as well probably didn't get as big as showing as i did in the show i think clearly takes a back seat during this movie even though i actually adore her in the show she is one of my three other characters in the show she did get that great line on the bar yeah it's actually a really good shot every every time i watch this meet me favorite character always changes one watch it'll be like i'm off the so we all want to watch it's all wash or somebody else and this what the one i watched today i was like oh my god i forgot how amazing he is the fact that she's like so comfortable to talk about our battery operated friends she's like i just absolutely loved her i love the fact that it's so like it's lovely to have that kind of like a female having pent up sexual felons as opposed to a male having it which you wouldn't normally see if they hadn't had it for a long period of time and i love that about her to be found out there the way that the kitty was introduced to the show as well like say that was one of the best introductions because yeah you weren't expecting it as well just like this nice little farm girl but she's basically shagging the engine day at the time and realizing that he was shit and just basically pointing out all the things i was going oh while he was bending his over i know it was that thing over there was that thing over here just saw hilarious but like she's got me on my back earlier yes that was like sorry i got a little bit towards the end as well when Simon like finally like you know said yes i mean like set it's like screw that i don't want to live oh my god he is such a wet blanket i didn't realize how much i i just did not like him at all i wrote him i know it's love river what the fuck is wrong with our brother oh Simon is the straight man though you've got to have a straight man he's nice to have a straight man i think he waffles a lot he does play the straight but not really you know and i guess people have dynamics and they have their own emotions and we all have our moments but he you know kind of the meringue like wanders around emotionally you know punching mal what the fuck does he think is going to happen exactly you know and that's not going to help him protect his sister no i just the opposite i just go the route and you can vent for yourselves maybe they were just trying to make him a nice you know additionally someone who could stand up to mal and make him more of a man uh or whatever but i just it he's in the movie he talked about characters just seem a little different from the movie to the show like he kind of he changed and i guess you know there's a lot that happens when it's shown a movie that justified that yeah he seemed to even in terms of like uh he was one of the characters in terms of dress where in the pilot he's he's dressed up to the nines he's got the expensive suits and sunglasses and then all the way through and then in serenity it's just a jumper and long hair and he just seems to yeah yeah and he just seems to evolve throughout that journey to a point where i don't think season one episode one Simon would have decked mal as he did in serenity it was a little bit out of character but there was that i sort of i sort of got it where the reavers were after and the reavers were literally on the deck with him so that frustration would get there but yeah it felt a little bit out of place i did love rivers you know you are right i saw the dog it was really fine maelzyr yeah i heard it all on the bit where they're just leaving and he's just like sousie if anything happens i might get choked up then maybe some tears i think one of my favorite moments between the two of them is when he's trying to like you know heila wounds he's like mopping a brow and he asks her about Miranda and he's like am i talking to Miranda right now and just gives him that look she like raises her eyebrow like this thing guy like what and he's like okay no no no okay yeah it's uh they had a great dynamic but yeah in this it was sort of the straw that broke the camel's back and then they're just off and yeah i don't know just took it away from me no it's interesting too we talk about um some of the issues with uh with breaking the mystery you know like the reavers basically uh uh raiders in space um raiders on these space when you when one of the things that they did really well with managing the mystery and slowly giving us little clues and growing with the river i think throughout the show because the movie she was so perfectly done and maybe that's because joss was sort of since she her story was the primary dream for me her character just got that kind of tender attention but so you know they could do it yeah um no especially from the last time i'm meant to say there's a lot of uh our people in this chat uh i wanted to say hi to all of them oh i know i know which then please mama and um uh we've got a faith uh you know howl in in the chat here she started a firefly watch group on our discord oh yeah we've been i've missed a couple because i've been sick but um we've been watching episodes of Star Trek of a firefly um because of her and and greg who's also in the chat here uh reminded me that our our conversation uh i mentioned something michael and i maybe been talking about earlier he mentioned that it happened during our firefly watches so for anyone here who wants to watch firefly and your honor discord just check that out it's fine oh cool that's awesome i probably am due a rewatch of firefly it only happens every so often and it's it's so much lost potential as well because what we could have had i know as i said we got serenity which tidied up a lot of the things or as i said the answers but one thing i would probably say about the movie because there's a lot of things where you think oh did it need that or is it's it's going too far there's not a lot of like stuff you would take out the movie i know you probably want to add more in but it feels like a perfect run length it it feels doesn't feel like it stays around too long too long as well yeah i agree with that there's not much where i look at it and think oh no i would change that yeah i want more i'll be giving out a longer do a lot of the rings like oh no no good no oh mark shet it and i'll be happy yeah that's one thing i would say i did miss yes um what was it oh um kale coz gone crowded from supernatural now but uh fajah every unit fajah yes it's such a good um the live adventure in the air oh my god oh wait till you watch his exiles episode oh he's in the mark shevat in everything yes yes yes yeah he's uh yeah he's in the pilot isn't he fur for five life i love the um when river does the kind of british accent as well and he's like really and someone else in the home country he calls him a little king on his little hill it's so good it's so good i'm on the member of the community so that kind of like uh carl urban from the boys there god god i'm gonna give him that give him that one um so let me sign up the car what i do actually love about the movie as well with all grit sci-fi shores it does love a good monologue and a good long speech and i think when fajah kicks off and we'll get the when rarls like rows in the troops and the crew to do what's right when he's got his mission and i said that speech in the middle like clear it hits the right nought at the right time and it's just all done perfectly the one where the find out about maranda and the and on the ship and i think the end it was in misbehaved is that the first time we heard that that famous line i'm sure what's seven five five i'm sure i'm pretty sure i'm pretty sure that i am to be like that's okay someone in the chat can tell us and i was someone confirmed because that is literally if you got if you've shot five-line i mean i've even got a t-shirt literally i am to misbehaved yeah and i i could i could sweat i probably the mandala effect that i only heard it in serenity i'm sure it's five five is it not when he's on the the plant he's having the drink at the bar and the same what you don't hear me i am to misbehave i mean shiny is all the way through shiny but i i never i can't remember if i ever heard it in any episode of five-life someone needs to confirm this well i'll watch the chat another edition it's in a movie that's definitely yeah it's crazy to think that this one line in a movie that happened two three years after the show became the tagline for the entire show thanks thanks great but greg's doing the more sensible thing you've been doing for you for thank you thank you it's good to see like it even just says five-line on the t-shirt i'd always be hit five-line i'm just like it wasn't this show i think uh they're both so full of amazing one-liners right yeah it plays uh puns and you know plays on uh uh things that people have already say about plays on each other and their characters and names uh it's really clever that way um but every time i see this movie i keep coming back to my favorite line and the whole thing and it's less um uh funny than most of the lines we all remember from the show it's but it's when uh when mald says when i start fighting a war i guarantee that you'll you'll see something yeah yeah uh it just it runs the hair up yeah it's just thing to that yeah yeah i was yeah what this movie is so jam-packed uh with so much good shit it's really hard i like i was making notes all over everything and i couldn't write down all the good shit that was happening fast enough i've actually got i wanted to remember yeah i've i've like i don't actually start a bit professional and go a bit prepared and i wanted because i i love the dialogue the dialogue in this movie is amazing and the end bit with river and uh and mile like on the ship like just talking and i love the communication and it's just a nice little ending touch to it as well but i'll read what it's here so um but in all the buttons and charts little albatross you know what the first real-of-lying is well i suppose you do since you already know what i'm about to see the river chips in i do but i like to hear you see it and well see yeah and then it goes love you can learn all the math in the verse but you can take about in the air that you don't love she'll shake you off just as sure as turning up of the worlds love keeps her in the air when she's all to fall down tells you she's certain she uh for she's keen makes her a home then river turns into says storms getting worse and goes we'll pass through it soon enough and it's just so nice then you get a little bit where swing flies off the ship and mile goes what what was that but it's just it's just after all we've been through all the emotion all the trauma of the movie and it's it's kind of like a little settling that the home and they found they found by the end of the so the movie opens right i mean there's that intro sequence but the movie really opens with the ship entering atmosphere of some planets and that bit flies off the yeah and what was that i don't know the ship is falling apart right and they're they're out of money they're gonna crash they're about to go do a crime the ship is falling apart but at the end right the the closing moment of the movie what you're talking about where they found their own serenity in in their bubble in their little corner universe having gone from this experience together they found serenity and um the the ship is still talking to them but like they've they've learned a lot and uh you know i love this movie it's it's never really constructed so perfectly uh i do think the use of the like something that's not spoken about a lot because it's kind of like a bit of it's almost like a gimmick but for me it's not a gimmick it's the use of Chinese in the film but i'm sorry so in the show it's it's a lot of a big deal in the film it's kind of it's not really like explain but it's i absolutely love it i love that it's used in like times of like emotion or anger like it's it's always fascinating me and i do think the the use of language is fast because we're in a futuristic society right like kind of like with Star Trek it's we're in the future so what does that mean is it is it utopia is everything equal we can smell and i love the concept that i think someone one that makes them one they're like uh because i watched all behind the scenes as well when i was like watching the five five years ago and basically the the reasons the gift that is saying the two superpowers in the world to over like China and America then basically to over the world in the kind of combined the culture so that's why like the the language and stuff and like the imagery and stuff was all like swined so that was yeah it's the the canon bit of canon was that obviously earth was becoming un uh sustainable for human life everything going on so the two biggest superpowers the united states and china worked together to essentially you know that everyone left earth because that was it so the two dominant languages in human society were uh is it mandarin our cantonist and english so then it ended up where very much like europe where language is just over a period of 500 years just blended in together because even the flag for the alliance is a mix of the united states and china on the boxes and like that so it's not like a combination of red and yeah a mashup of the harry and sekel and so the the language uh that they were saying it was like it's it's natural to go from english to chinese all the way through the conversation and they do it you know it's not really it's sort of more fleshed out in the series like seanese and seanese and it's just like yeah because when you think about this is what they would do and it's it's the i love shows they do this like the expanse does it where it's just like well yeah these languages and people develop accents when they're in space because it's gonna evolve and this is and this is like yeah this is humanity 500 years we are not united we've worked together but we don't have to like it and then these new factions are then this and then obviously the outer rim shall we call it star wars and they're just like they sort of they took english but then they've took the the draw of frontier america where you know me and mine have to live on so y'all can live in a better world and then in times of rage like when mal gets sucked by simon and he just goes full chinese on goram instead of god down to get around america yeah you know oh can i say god damn on tv oh goram oh yeah and the track and battle story yes how do we play without swearing? the funeral service is all chinese as well if you know this um so the outfit is white is the traditional color of chinese for your own attire and so she wears this beautiful white dress to go dress as well doesn't it yes katie is wearing a traditional chinese dress as well the stone for the funeral tie is the ur traditional chinese too so it's all embedded in that whole funeral service well that's something it makes sense so like that wasn't talking about there it makes us a lot of people say makes total sense because like if you think about i know like we're i'm gonna be very specific to us so sorry mark but in the north east of england we're very like seeten like viking history and a lot of the words we use as slang you know actually words from when we had our viking cousins here so things like we say there's a phrase here for when it's really windy which is blana hooli and the word hooli actually means wind in norwegian right so like we we use words and colloquialisms that are embedded in the culture we have in our history and i love the concept that in space it would be no different you would have different areas different planets that would have their own colloquia i love that and i love that it's not ignored i think language is so important and stuff like this but it's the same as religion because you've got christianity you've got voodoo i mean even in the film when he goes to an arrow and he's just like but then it started like but look at the language look at how things have evolved over 500 years religion is still here the language is still here it's just slightly different which is how things i mean if you look at language between now and 100 years ago yeah completely different like it's it's gonna sound so sad the it's so weird but the titanic inquiry the entire transcript of the investigation is online and you read it in the language from 1912 although it's english it's oh it's so you're already where it's like when they ask a question i wish for you to tell me what you were doing on the day of this i wish for you to tell me not just can i or anything like that like we do oh will you tell me yeah yeah yeah you've got to be polite in it but the way that they this is why i love it because it's just it's it's cowboy's it's it's um chinese culture it's americanism it's imperialism all molded into one and it's played out yeah and they do it in such a way where it's just like it's the ultimate sci-fi western you've got cowboy bebop you've got star trek which was like wagon train to the stars and stuff like that but this is just let's let's make cowboys and indians in space although we can't say that but it's let's make this in space and it was nailed perfectly like we did our review of uh i'll discussion of fact like that it was just it was done so perfectly it's one of the motions where the perfect act is the perfect cast perfect story all hit at the same time and it's a shame that well i see it's a shame i would love more i would love to have the expense i would love to have more about the verse but i'm not sad for what we got because i was thinking about anything again it's perfect yeah yeah i use happy with how it ended i use it's five five cents are you happy that that was your conclusion that's it yeah because not all stories you need to have everything wrapped up in a nice neat little ball like life's not wrapped up in any sort of ball so and part of it is that um though the way it was shortened and the you know the fact that it didn't get to spend 10 years exploring the universe matt that's so much of it's still a mystery and you know there's some there's a silver lining about things happening getting canceled is and if you can figure out how to wrap it out right which i think firefly and serenity did um you can keep everyone wanting more it's uh you know michael's saying perfect if whenever sine more firefly it's still perfect by nor um like tawnameye or before he mentioned he did mention that you you people that worked on the set of fireflies is that right michael is a worked on firefly i don't know yeah i know people who work on firefly and i worked on battle star oh my god around for so many questions two point five years so i tell the story kind of regularly the reason i uh the first job i got offered out of college was uh uh offered to me at sundown swim festival by kerry mcclugger she was a chairman of perema television headband for whatever ever and when i realized we was i was like oh shit i told my drunk 20 21 year old friends that like why was we were getting in the car and driving straight back to LA through the winter storm uh from utah la and i started up here on a monday and the reason i took that job without knowing anything about it knowing that i would be a govite it's like i'll wash your car because i want to be you know my dream would be was to work for or on star trek yeah so we just sadly breath it's still like never seen that one in time i'm sorry right now it's it's yeah the the experience of being a paramount was was almost spiritual um oh that's right when you were in LA you didn't answer but like i'm very familiar with mr.ville when you touch the gates when you have to go in um but just i think i i love it because i was looking at little factoids about serenity and stuff and i remember one where there were there was a an issue when firefly was canceled the blueprints for the set of serenity and all the sex and everything was destroyed so they have to rebuild it they couldn't find the blueprints uh but Nathan Filion who was so excited about being on uh firefly having a series he took photos but he took photos of everything from the sense to the blueprints of how they constructed the sets and Filion literally saved universal's ass because he was like i don't have the blueprints i have the photos of the blue bloopers which they took and then used to rebuild wow that's amazing because he was just uh to rebuild the slightly larger uh yeah he was he was a shutterbox though he he had it because he was like oh don't worry about that and then the running jork throughout serenity if you look at the containers on the ship it's like um do not do not destroy there's little tags i said do not destroy in every box and that's like right jork because the set was destroyed in 2003 so everything just says do not destroy on it because of that one question i almost have read the same things michael because i've read that too one of the things i wanted to ask as well because i we've in sci-fi as well in well like in movies or tv shows we have an array of ships and going from the beautiful to the opposite where do you think like serenity the the fai fai fai class it's my favourite filter i think it's i think it's number one like it is literally i love everything and embodies i love that it is a bug it's a fai fai i love that it doesn't have weapons i love that it floats as well as it flies i love that it's it's it's not a ship i love that it's always a bird it was a boat i just love everything about it and i love that mal loves it if it's not it's not a piece of machinery it is a living organism i read them this is their home their companion i i have two fods so i know about failures and things breaking down and past falling off mid-yard my drive it's it's it's not a ship it's an extension of the family it's another star of the show and it's it's like like mal says at the end um uh you know that the speech you gave there Paul what he says at the end and it's like very much like what mccoy says at the start of the next generation you treat it like a lady she always brings you home it's it's that it doesn't have to be beautiful it doesn't have to be you know expensive or a big or anything like that it's what it makes you feel and we have that in the episode of fly when it was we get that one yeah we get that bit and switch and then he was all about that one and we see something in the distance what he's actually talking about serenity and it's it's that love at first sight yeah it doesn't you know it doesn't have to be a pretty ship i would love a serenity model there was going to be one made last year before the company went bust but i would just love one because it's just such a unique design but it's not it's not even the aesthetics it's the stories yeah that it brought and it's the the the crew that it brought together and a ship like i said if a ship can do that and bring so much memories and joy then it's worth it's waiting gold michael every time you little every time you come on here you always say something that makes me want to cry but it's exceeded very much it's very much like that it's like people who like me who own old cars it's like it could be the ugliest thing in the world but it's something that is special to you it's something that you love and you know oh they tape a jump like the same the episode oh they tape a chunk one man's jump is another man's treasure and looks like the same millennium falcon as well that has the same type of appeal because that thing the falcon is not the most attractive luck and ship when you come to it but i think as you said it's the personality that comes with it the personality of the crew and i think it's in a way like and i'm kind of going back to smith market earlier on but i feel like it's an embodiment of mal in that it's falling apart but it won't stop flying it won't stop getting back up you know and it gets a good way of looking at it like the ship does represent him it's broken it's falling in pieces it's holding on by a thread like you said earlier and at the end he gets rebuilt just like he does within himself he kind of rebuilds himself a little bit so oh my god i already thought about that before it's not yet i don't know where people do get excited about the ships as well because i remember watching pick hard and when trekking was just starting out and um oh god so many things ago and good will like say again so excited when they brought back the original like generations um like that episode really show the ride like a little child and i when we talked about it the other week they know what was your greatest moment in 2023 trekking it was just kind of 12 the music the the the carpets the fact that they were on the bridge not abrid the bridge and it was just it you know people say it's not pretty sure everything like that but it's what again it's what memories you have it's what it bodies it what it for me and for a lot of people that that was your attitude yeah it was the trampageway we're doing but it's so to see after god it was generations was 94 so so 30 years to see this flying on tv again and it made a lot of people but that cry and that's why we do this shit as well though that that let's be honest that's where no one was born and that's and again it's the pure emotion of it as well that's what i love hearing them stories that that's for me makes everything better yeah you're talking what you're talking on kind of touches on something that connor has been trying to articulate over the last year you know over the last 20 years with meeting all the fans of the show and and now over the last year of making our show talking with so many of the people who made the show producers and effects guys and makeup people and you know yakuta's and everyone um he has been kind of saying that it seems to him that the ship is the star of the show and the cast for each show are just it's their turn to take care of the ship yeah which i think he i think is exactly spot on when you're into the reason shows like firefly or star trek or you know battle star works so well as because the ship is alive and being cared for by these people it's it's it was even in person even in the contract for the next generation like when they first signed off the next generation that the enterprise is another star of the show it is one of the stars of the show so they're like yes you've got frix uh the vabber this is also a star of the show so the enterprise is one of them yeah it was the same with five light it was the same with the galactic i mean look all the way through galactic again towards the end no one is taking one frackin bolt out of this frackin battle star it was all broken falling apart very much like most of our bodies but it was still going um and it's they don't have to be the prettiest things in the world but oh no no they are people's homes they are people's dreams and they they they bring you home and and they treat them you know you treat them right and they will always bring your home and support it oh let's just like a lack of going to get put in the airlock did you decide for that joke no sorry it's a baby died it's fine but it's um but uh it's it's what it's what they represent and it's you know even for people who don't get who people like me why they love ships and i love i love ships so they are said but i also love them for what they represent what they what memories they bring and god damn it when my house is finished renovating they're just gonna be ships everywhere so uh the house that the ship the house the ship nearly destroyed all the content insurance is just going but um it's what they represent it's their memories um and you know i look now at the wall of bankruptcy and you know i look at the olvil and i go the olvil it's sephmock fahlin it's their passion it's star trek but not star trek uh the the rocinante from the expanse it's what happens when sci-fi goes fully accurate the enterprise e we don't talk about what happened the bird of bread the x-wing star fighter you know red fox standing by oh jessie saying the millennium falcon yeah and it's it's those you dapple oh i knew what he's gonna do oh there it is i'll still say you can in that thing that was at that arm's length it gets me nervous when he goes to reach out for something and he's toy collecting it gets me really nervous because he's always gonna climb out of the door sorry i was talking to the other day i took a customer work and took me full off and attacked us so that was with uh and it did he attacked you yeah yeah i do think though like and it's it's such an odd thing to be there a little mic oh i think it's an odd thing to segue to but if you think about like old haunted house stories they always talk about how the house is alive and how the house is lived in and the spirit set at part of the house but it's the house itself that is its own entity and i do think of ships as the same thing in sci-fi that it's its own entity the people that are in it are living within this living breathing organism that embodies the crew itself and i'm not saying that the ships are haunted you get what i mean it's me that's not gonna be an interest in a horror movie instead of haunted uh house a haunted ship yeah well i mean they have been in price as we establish in our life but yeah as we as we talk about that i just want to remember that as we established in our firefly discussion firefly does take place in the ali universe hmm we did have a collision in tennie yes interesting in the what alien yeah in the pilot of firefly you know when mounds got the uh anti-acraft gun it is a gun designed by willy new tennie who is corporation from the alien universe and i'm never talking discussing that as i remember all of these the alliance soldiers it's also in the starship starship universe well starship troopers and there's also windows xb so it seems like anyone's fucked we we stayed with the stable operating system for 500 years we didn't need to call anyone that didn't want to miss the course of the viscos bus i don't like this so many shows do you play how much though like i i have noticed the firefly in the background of a bs g-shot that on carraga you can actually see the serenity in the background like sci-fi represents sci-fi and always pays on margin i love that i love that you can see ships in the distance or that you see like you know it's down as quarters 17 or 1d yeah i'm pretty sure i think it was a down as quarters with 17 or 1d as well got a little fun though so yeah i don't want to be a fan of war was a producer and writer on star trek and uh you know also the creator writer for uh battle star like my prized possession is a lot of grime because i i shocked him in 2012 when he was at track and vengeance sick of hearing about the next generation i was like i love about saglato and he said shit really all right my little friend m because i know this room is flying around and it's been going around for years at disney are going to be re going through the verse again like rebooting and what how do you think they would go is it going to be a tool no no how do you think how do you think they're going to do it and then how do we want it well the question is how would you how would we want it i wouldn't want recast them but maybe just even not going with the firefly story just on the story in the verse i'll just just continue with something else in the universe in that universe we don't need a rehashing this is what annoys me next owner of the of the serenity yeah i wouldn't be sad about that but if they recast someone else's maul i don't think they could discover a little bit of mal and and and zoe and their crew um about their own adventures in the serenity yeah i would i would get on board with that it's just if they go with the whole new or this is 35 like with the like cmms different cast and just kind of do as a reboot i'm making some musical this is the issue this is the issue i'm having with battle saggolaxico at the moment because mbc won a reboot and like a lot of people have said you created in the mid 2000s this this vast universe that was was awesome and people deeply loved to this day continue that we don't need another reboot of a reboot just continue doing that there's still plenty of stories to be told that the whole point of battle saggolaxico is all of this happened before and all of this could happen again you could totally play on that you don't even have to call it galactic or anything like that it's just more no more reboots no more reboots no more if you've established it let i mean look at the last 24 years what we have got and what they've established why do we need to reboot the future we don't know no i agree no we don't so to wrap up anything that we haven't touched on that is wanted to talk around all with your professionals we know what's and stuff no i covered all my notes i thought this time i'm not going to go with them with me normal because we have we had people on and i was like no i'll just i'll leave that for another time but no i've covered everything i wanted to out now i'm finding that what i love doing is watching the movie just writing down as i'm going and just anything that kind of like comes to and so i've covered everything i wanted to right so what you're saying anything you want to add i just absolutely love the theory and people can disagree with it if they want i appreciate it's a wacky theory but i do love the theory that all of joss wieden's work isn't connected and that river is a slayer and and the reason she's so good at fighting is because she is a slayer um so that this is a futuristic version of other slayer of what happened to them yeah i'm going to throw a curve ball okay chuck and fly fly a linkedin asin universe and jane travel back in time oh i wish i caught that reference to be fair though the first two seasons of chuck was on point then it got weird yeah yeah sorry i i'm balding like i think he is very underrated but where he plays jane so good it's so perfect for jane jane and muscular books and if anyone does sell jane's hat i will probably buy one just what to say you would suit a jane hat you've got a jane hat for zee cutting possibly so it'd be the hero of hero of sunday's commande called paul he's even got a street named after paul paul he started a podcast in downhill from there yes well to be fair sammy has that jubias on us so yes we'll give it up so so thank you guys and thank you for joining us for the chat about i'm not going to do me normal what we read about five because as we've said it's pretty much a perfect movie and it's very rare we can actually say that these days as well which um it's quite a nice feeling so actually that's the nadio not not podcast for this evening so tomorrow don't forget tuning at seven o'clock for sammy and don as they are talking about the blob on monsters up north sounds awful way so it's a bit too awful to have a lot of labels the amount of times that had to keep changing as like the blob the blob no it's going to be all about the blob and especially in our northern accents as well Dan can kind of get away with it with her a six accent but me it's the blob awful you're talking about the two versions as well the 1980s and what was it the 30s are 40 no we are covering the 1954 what north 1958 and the 1988 one and two completely different films two completely different takes really interesting conversation around the two of them please come and join us very much so good what have you got to be more to the next Friday we i am so excited for this after trudging through a season three episode of the original series which had it was both up in arms about big arms it was it was torn sort of yeah torns basically Kirk and a kabab shot Kirk and a kabab shot that's basically what it get off is we're fighting over a woman who thought that was good um we are finally talking about a deep space nine episode called bar association we get we get the greatest staffly officer who ever lived miles Edward or brian who's a union man verengis we get secorengis we get sexual tension between waff and jazia but we do get a lot of quacks bar and grill so they should make sure where we go quacks bar and grill um we are reviewing that live this uh coming Friday at 7 30 p.m.

uk time i will be extremely tight because i am coming back from Scotland that day oh it's going to be fun but i am i am so looking forward to it because i either wanted an enterprise episode so i can make people cry with my sob story about my love event prize or a deep space nine episode and we finally got deep space nine because it's tight day british word for drunk is what you said it's going to be tight on Friday because you're coming back from Scotland it's going to be tight time wise oh it's coming from Scotland so you will be drunk so yeah i'll be on the run from Scotland book test we will be we will be live come hell of high water me and sonoises deep passion for deep space nine is is well known in the nadiot north community my favorite star trek series of patriment prize be there because we are going to get so passionate and possibly maybe a little bit drunk um because it's fine and you know i'm gonna start doing a movie review as well i'll see you go go soon yes we are doing we are doing we are coming on one of the movies um please do not resist um we are starting at the end of every month we are going to be reviewing a statue movie starting with the motion picture who grave has already reviewed and sent me many notes including spandex sideburns and seventies colour schemes and my car and a day a boy um and then we are going every month we'll be a different statue movie so rathican next month search for swach final frontier um so it is frontier greatest frontier uh so we will be having special guests uh mark if you'd like to come on for a statue movie choose one and you will be all of them all of them all of them just write down all of them we've got that mistake on monsters and now she's a core so be careful what you wish for and then i'm also i'm also looking at branching out from star trek as well and reviewing all the sci-fi franchises that i love as well but that is that is something down the line and that will be starting with battle star galakica oh my god it's running that for too long yeah it is something that it needs to be discussed and now that i have this this thing called time to do things um it's something i'm looking at doing so big things for 2024 and i also want to know the logo for that one well there's going to be a nice little segue you gotta love this i am also going to the shuttle pod live show in aipro do you want to talk about this mark we have a live event in april friday saturday sunday the 1213th uh in beautiful bermain california it's gonna be a lot of fun you should do a convention in sunday in the north east it'll be just not different very long difference and there's anything you want to promote mark and or as you said you've came on you're producing amazing show the shuttle pod show as well i know there's a lot of people in the chat that do you watch it what people who haven't seen it tell them a little bit about it uh the shuttle pod show is a star trek talk show uh we uh it has been hosted by conner trineer and dominant keating and aracola rose uh and uh we're about to launch our third season um we have long-form conversations about the people who have worked on star trek about their lives and careers and and their time on star trek and what they're doing now and how star trek has affected their lives and uh uh it's really a lot of fun cool it's good we're on we're on the youtube uh the audio version of our show that goes out on you know everywhere apple podcast one of all that stuff but it's the youtube show is what we focus on and uh we got a live a live event coming up in in april as michael was talking about and uh we're going to be at the san francisco creation trek uh event in fibri march something like that and then uh s tlv we've got big plans for s tlv this year uh we are giving away a bunch of tickets for uh long the search of the long island trek long island um there's a lot of stuff going on this year very exciting very exciting and so yeah you want to promote yeah like so i'm so uninteresting at the mark yeah like uh yeah i stream on tlv you're here you are getting a lot of compliments in the chat about your hair oh thank you thank yeah i stream on tlv every friday i play really dumb indie horror games um it's a it's a program called sips and spooks where i have a little drink and i play a little horror game and i say stupid things and she has become a staple of the nerdy up north podcast now yeah she's not i'm doing it she's not i'm doing it anymore she is a member of the team now so yes another person that drinks yes another one part of the crew yes yes yes um we'll be back next week where me and sammy i think we're joined by possibly donner and greem where we are reviewing sirrita de wier we are taking our first uh first voyage into studio ghibli uh fill that me and sam both haven't watched before oh really i mean that's not the shop from my end but definitely oh i'm so excited to see this i'm really i'm really looking forward to something like my husband is a huge anime fan so it's like anime is not lost on us it's just something i've never so different though it's uh you're gonna love it i can't really follow it the way they the anime food just makes you so hungry watch i will july nauted i will eat beforehand and i think the week after we're gone back to one of the best tv shows that now has a decent ending the first season well the first time it ended it would have ended well we're going to be reviewing decks there oh yes yes i forget to i mentioned um we are launching a quiz show like a namity steam quiz show designed for star trek fans to participate and i'm gonna be the host uh and uh the all of you anyone in the chat or anyone who's a member of you know fan of our show or whatever if you think you know anything about star trek uh it's uh two people face off and then we're gonna have a year-long um run and we're gonna have a tournament at the end of the year oh wow so cool the goal is we want to be in person as possible but for people who can't be in LA to shoot at our studio we're gonna we'll have them come in on video uh but when we get to the tournament we're hoping to bring in the winners for the tournament to do like a live in studio turn with fun here is one of the most competitive people is where we did the end of your quiz um and it just went from yeah this is fun to everyone get in mortal and just like turning into two kiosks yes modal is more than for heavily drummed so what you're saying Marcus is if i brush up on trek i have an opportunity to possibly come to LA is that what you're saying is a possibility possibility right okay that's i'll keep that in the back of my head yes see yes look at my gosh face i worry because you know i can do research okay follow it to something but the downfall of nerdy up north is the competitive between sammy but yeah and civil war civil nerdy war yes so thank you everyone in the chat thank you for everyone that's uh joined us thank you hope you've all liked the video please subscribe to the channel as well we do have so much content and i believe jake and good will have to go to menta dot jake and grian will be uh tomorrow night as well after monsters we'll be talking about warhammer which i have zero knowledge about and i am so looking forward to it please remember as well all audio for every podcast that's done through nerdy up north is up on a Tuesday from anywhere you can get your podcast from yes so that's it wrap it up so same bad time same bad channel guys see you nerdy everyone bye
