She did say it. She didn't like that How it ends because we can't see I to I on one thing There's gonna be a few threats all with her this episode Yes, I am the other host and we are joined by nerdy Jesus the sexy nerd himself the guy with the beard that I want the hair Everything he hosts not just one but two Emiers and podcasts one that is the countdown and doomsday that is going from strength to strength who the views are going through the window I'm excited to see what's gonna happen with the next episode of God is a galaxy and the destruction that he starts out on Twitter Not twitch on Twitter on twitch where he does the rumble cast with sliding sloop and Adam. We've got the Jake Hello, that was an amazing intro. Thank you so much.
Yes. I'm happy to be here talking about fun stuff fun movies fun stuff fun Are we gonna do it? Are we gonna do the click? Sounds was noise So we've got cousin it fester and And we'll see it I am most like cousin it voted most like cousin it to the no you know Which I wore when we did the Wednesday review so say hey When I said it I looked down and went oh Imagine if the Christ of a Lloyd did meet Chris that was That's the impression that's the face you pull so before we get started of course Before we cause more chaos Our opinions alone if you'd like to say anything from today's episode I believe it's coming join us on the Facebook page you can join us on the discord or comment section where we can have an open discussion I thought we won't have is anyone come and trust in town is our opinions are wrong because we can all agree to disagree in fandom So let's keep it fun.
Keep it kind and keep the toxic behavior out of a It isn't It's called bitter cult leader you do what I see it not what I do You've never used your cult status on me before I can't believe it's dead devil that is me Can you do that? Saying that Charlie Cox should have been recast. I'm sorry that is blasphemy and that is hurt me to my core Just a big bit Little flaming DD on the floor for the police tonight I was seeing Batman doesn't do that And you know what a DD could be a B So yes, we're talking about a family friendly movie that was all some from 1991 In true no yet more fashion I have the taglines And this one I don't Yeah, it's them creepy cookie spooky Did they have like individual forces with each of them on them the faces the mic on that each one had one and the next one is This actually relates to me weird is relative all right I don't know where this is coming from because this is like a whole new incarnation of the Adams family This is very different from the Adams family that we saw in the television series It's not the same old thing Just a jog the memory that goes everyone's got memories of these shows and like I think was when I did the top Grooms with the People I was a member these shows and say oh the show is really like it was only five episodes a place for 40 towers only had five episodes It's it's crazy people always think there's like massive loads of those of content with these like things that they've ever Did but there's not that much stuff at all because when we were all like growing up like everyone was talking about syndication a lot And it's like if you get a hundred episodes the TV company will buy it and then they'll do reruns Yeah, residuals, but that wasn't a thing back then they're like hey look We're gonna do a film about God to live in a house and then someone else was like well I'm gonna do one where the dad is a franken It was just the Wild West I didn't realize that in the original series now very many I have seen them But the monsters kind of top-trumped Adam suddenly for me just on the old eventually I love Caroline Jones's more She was perfect and but I didn't realize that they were kind of recluses. They didn't work They stayed at home all day They had riches beyond our wildest dreams and they laughed at very large tax bills and it was it was incredibly I don't mean to say this in a bad way, but it was very basic storytelling from them It wasn't a great deal everything was just kept in the house Yeah, and you know A lot of things with a little monster and morticia whether you know Lily would go off and try and get work.
Not just had no no I didn't want to do that it was just weird I was watching this right respect last night of the difference between the two and then the difference in the movie to the TV show And I didn't realize it was such a vast disconnect between the two. Yeah It was quite interesting my first Adam's family for sure. I had never seen a second of the TV show I don't know I think that's funny. Yes to be I got again my memories here's because I was a long fucking time ago Yeah, it was I got on BBC two on like after school like around about six o'clock You know when you just do like the CB be stuff that came really I used to have like yeah children's shores that used to go into like see the The David I'd master and stuff like that and use on to kick in then it moved on to BBC two from about six o'clock They had a few alternative or exchanges shores that like see that I was finally was I got on or that's just my memory Just caught totally gone or it was basically on a Sunday on Channel 4 when I had like all TV shows like the land of the Giants and I was family again, I don't know which order because me memory doesn't work out well Yeah, I think like when I was growing up channel 2 was like the Simpsons would come on after that stuff I definitely saw loads of episodes of the months to so what channel I was watching it on I have no idea That's one thing I can't remember from childhood like what anything was on Yeah, same thing I used to watch a lot of the monsters and I dream of Jamie was a huge one as well Yeah, I used to watch at all like a winched as well We wished I heard but I love the fact that you know there's a witch called Samantha and I was like Oh, yeah, they're just all occupied the same sort of headspace to me where it's like someone would walk through the door And then like they'd be like a laugh track The difference I was talking that I was looking at as well was the relationships between everyone so grandma in the TV show is Gomez's mother in the show she's more in the movie she's more tissues and Festa is More is more tissues brother.
Yeah, my tissues mother's uncle Now he is in the movie it's go mensers brothers. There is a little differences and alternate universe multiverse of Comic as well wasn't there I was a comic strip kind of deal From what I was watching as it was very basic comic of you know the Charles Adams, you know You know that animated movie that came out not too long ago. Yeah, I think that's what the comic strip looked like Right back there. Yeah, like you know the big oval face and the very Yeah, so yeah, it was Charles Adams and it was just like in a newspaper very small very You know it wasn't huge or anything and someone just by chance went on Let's do this and another difference from the TV to the movie Wednesday.
It does not play a part at all in the TV Sure, she's barely in it. Yeah, so just really just be a sigma so doing the Wednesday dance type. Yeah, that's being turned into a gift All around the world, but she's barely in the actual show put in the movie even out the interview I watch Angelica Houston showing this is a Wednesday movie. This is her movie Yeah, no, she says this is Christine She says watching Christina Richie during this movie was breathtaking like this girl at her age She create everything that you see of Wednesday from down to the sleeping position of the arms It's on the end she did quite a bit of improv as well.
You know the whole knife scene Where's like are you gonna take that exactly your brother and she swapped it out? Then she's like kind of improv that because they were figuring each of those characters out Yeah, she said it was a she felt like she was an adult at work And she had to keep reminding herself it's a child so that's why she got given That much like a big room Absolutely, no, and it's interesting GXA and this was these first like Inturation of the albums from me. I remember when this came out This was kind of like the start like if again my memory shows me right of the big blockbusters summer hits That started to roll out in the 90s and because like when we like growing up now the blockbusters The summer block was as owned by Marvel's like Marvel's all the big blocks and movies that were kind of waiting for back then There used to be like the films like the other funny one of us came up Then it was like dress park men and black like big like say Kind of like summer tent pool movies where everyone had to go and say this was kind of like the first one And I remember the advertisement campaign being absolutely huge as well It's it's really easy to put like put a trailer together for this because there's so many like, you know visually iconic moments Like you could just stick in a trailer easy Everyone had to go and say that I was on like every time like Before you school like you used to have like sure like a big breakfast and stuff I got like interviews with the stars like they had clips of the movie they had to add this family rap as well That was like the end of the thing Because today I've been sitting thinking about the Adam's family rap and every time it comes up in the head the turtles ones there Yeah, I can't get past the turtles want to get into the Adam's family Like like exactly like the turtles the first movie has a slightly more serious rap and then the second one they're like Then this one it's like a very he's very serious about how he's describing that Adam's family and how they do what they want to do What amirs is made out and I know we've had Like a version of it now on Netflix. So we see how this movie isn't a timber a movie blows my mind It's crazy.
Yeah, but but I feel like it's sort of in that same It's like oh that the saw what he was doing and they were like, you know, there's room for more than one person to have a go at this type of thing Um, but I love how it's like a more realistic style even though like, you know, there's very like silly moments But like the set dressing is more realistic Um like it feels like you said like earlier, sorry, it's nearly a tidbit But they built all of this and there's really that Yeah, they built the building from the ground up This is possibly why they went over budget and the studio was struggling and they were the studio was struggling at the time And they were the highest commodity because of the money that was in the movie And they were easy to sell and they got moved off to another studio and the director was a guy called Barry son and failed to fail And if you want pain cause attention and you know what Barry actually looks like And then when gourmet's has got the trains and the guys in the train. Yeah, that's Barry Yeah You don't put yourself in an a train set where you would never actually be This is this is how crazy this movie is like there's so many weird and wonderful things Ah, this that was the only point I second guest like is this like too far when they've got the toy train set You've got almost not like an actual person sitting in it. I was like How can the realms of reality come we explain that but again, they didn't do this went going for Monsters. They've got monsters in the family, you know, because that's not a human in there I often wonder what is behind all that here and then I'm like do you really need to know?
It's just But then they have a baby at the second one. Yeah, it's got the hair already. So he's only been get to see Yeah, um, yeah, but this movie like jig said was it everything's practical Um, the house was built the sets were built like everything is just built from the ground up even to like thing as well I would have spent them on my talk about things like oh absolutely You can tell he's just a hand through a table Yeah Has these the actor has these beautiful long hand like beautiful long fingers and that's the half the reason they picked him But he's actually wearing for the majority of it a prosthetic hand because he needs to be able You know that it has to be in a certain position for a long period of time So the easiest thing to do was to put it in a prosthetic or his actual hand could rest Right. It's like supported.
Okay. Yeah, exactly I love the part where he's like trying to give him a message He's like knocking the cereal every happens But I'm sure they use the same effects in Wednesday. The did yes, the did I think it works so well And again with CGI I know it's got its place as we talked with the last episode and death becomes so there's such Like you're not gonna put a hole in in gordy horns belly without CGI or like what needed Basically the other All of Lee Was real Lease dead it's fine How well it worked and the fun over there only as you said You can tell the most of needed a given rest because imagine walking around how many hand on the floor running around like even doing Tic after tic wow you would build finger muscles on your finger muscles type And I think like it's it's good to use practical like I know they didn't really have CGI at the time But like I think a CGI thing would be a bit too like scary because like the movements would be more like alien like Face hugger type of thing Yeah, and because they didn't do it this movie is like timeless like it is Classic because it has it doesn't have that jankiness of what CGI would have been like back in 1980 It looks great in HD like I've only got like the Amazon copy but like you know it upscales really nice You can't really tell it's all I think this was still filmed in actual film or digital so when it comes to film It always upscales better than it does with digital because when you film in digital the highest resolution you can get is What you what you're doing? Yeah, when it's film you can upscale that there's like you can even upscaled here Okay, that's why a lot of old movies now when it upscales better than films that were made in the late 90s early 2000s That explains Look nice another one's yeah Completely explains the multi-fog and then because what I watched looked like it was done yesterday like it was so crisp and so clear So that really explains it.
Yeah, thank you for I have got some knowledge One of my new useless tidbits that I got from this movie is gonna be that Adam's family is technically a Christmas movie Because it's Christmas And by my rules that loves it in this gimmanji for being a secret stealth Christmas movie Is this part of the model universe as well because it had people's because of the Captain America's Spider-Man Yeah, because in the Marvel universe kids do dress up as the character Well, there's monsters in there so it's actually um, it's Charles Adams's illustrations The little monsters that you can see run around trick-or-treat is is all his illustrations being kind of brought to life Oh, that's fun like background stuff. Yeah, let's let's spend a few moments talking about the cast because this this movie has no right to have the kind of cast that it got like from christmas Lloyd as an alfester like I kind of I know being a huge back to the future fan and being a future fan of christmas Lloyd The transformation from doc brown to an alfester is unbelievable. I know he's both a little bit for fester But you cannot see the same two characters. I think I did as a kid You know, I think I was just totally tricked a thought with a different guy I wouldn't have even said that that was doc like the top round.
I couldn't I couldn't see that I could see that And the storyline of fester was because obviously that's the main the main focal point of the the movie is the you know The identity of fester and initially that we're gonna do it where Gordon was um, he wasn't fester Right in the end. It was gonna reveal that he actually wasn't fester and he was but they kind of accepted him anyway He wants to live with them anyway Yeah, but it was it was christina So the whole cast when they read it got together and was like we don't like this We need we need we need we need to be fester if we could ever continue this on we need him to actually be fester And do you know who then nominated to go and tell the director that they didn't like it? Pooh christina Piletti Piletti was got rude and Barry son and failed to reshoot things to make it to where christina Lloyd was an actual fester and you know the only person who didn't give a shit Yeah, I was thinking about because they do sort of just throw it in right at the end when they're just like sitting around like there's a seven Buns later thing or whatever and they're sort of like oh, you know like what happened to you in the view me to try and go Whatever, you know, they're kind of like chuck it in so yeah, that sounds about right that wasn't totally planned So the only thing that again because I said that makes more sense to me now because watching it back I was like, well, why is he growing hair because fester never grew hair Did he go on the Bermuda channel and become hair follicle again? His head like yeah One of my favorite lines from fester is when he's wanting to try and get away from gourmets and get like get things like I have to go I have important work to do It's so many like good silly like little like lines that you can tell that they put a lot of work into even though it's just a silly like throw a joke Like but it yet's just his performance like like one of my favorite parts is when he sees them doing the shicks fear and he's like Having a like stab daddy That was just inspired because if you look like as you said christopher loy he doesn't scream on the fast stuff He was always like family friendly or professor wasn't he like, you know He feels very small in this like and I know fester kind of like has the you know the image of being a smaller person But for me christopher like they're tall stop round like he's tall he's a child he's large But he's kind of like swallowed down in like Yeah, I think the way because the kind of loses neck Everything's kind of like like this Yeah, I guess like festers a bit like a combination between like a regular guy and like a hunchback like an eagle type of person Yeah, they actually resist doing the light bulb joke in this don't they're At the end Right.
Yeah, so I was thinking like, you know, they usually that's like you go to one fester is like oh I get electrocuted and you can fly to the light bulb The way to the end to give us a Revealed that he wasn't called faster. Um, but this as I said, like the whole cast not just christopher loyed like julia Raul julia Oh my goodness. I'm he thought he like we saw a performance in straight fight where he had the scenes and was saw over dramatic Jesus christ like gourmet's adams. I've never seen over acting like like from facial expressions to excitement to within and everything was just portrayed If he tried to do this straight and try and do it normal It wouldn't have worked.
It would have been it was just the fact that he went balls to the wall and went as silly as he did It become such a masterpiece And then and then you got the kind of like the change up when he's kind of lost everything and he's like Even his voice and everything just mannerisms We can't tell you where they are He is absolutely fantastic in this and um He credit when I was watching the behind the scenes he credits a lot of his performance to angeli houston Because to him, that's the only person he had to perform to Right. Yeah, a lot of them alone isn't the really like when you think about you And it's just her and the beauty that is just her That this is the craziest because I went from being absolutely terrified of angeli houston from the witches Get that To watching this and going I'm so confused. I'm feeling things I don't understand I don't know why does he want to get tortured? Why do I want to hear the torture of me?
As I was telling things before we came on them when I was watching the behind the scenes I have never been more unsettled than singing angeli houston smile for the first time in my life Everything I have seen that woman do is being deadpan serious to where she never smiles And then oh, she's like oh my god. She's got teeth. She does. She does smoke a lot in that family.
It's like Yeah, and then that mouth does not open and I love the decision that they made with morticia that anytime you are looking at her She has this light going right across her eyes I'm tired of style in love that decision. That was not just a light. It's the belle of gossi Dracula Like that's what they did for him. I'm school in the last I think this is the film that started my lifelong obsession and love of goth girls as well You know when you were saying like oh like I had the posters everywhere like marketing was crazy and like talking about the old Like the old television show Like whose idea was it to make the adams family sexy?
It works, but like Idea but I think morticia I think morticia has always been just like the femme for all beautiful Hey, do you know how many people have based the characters of her vampire Elvira? They all it all comes back to morticia radams So how many couples costumes did this fall? Even though no ones as good as these two I do prefer morticia's dress in the movie than I did the tv show They're both exactly very the same fit in arms chest, but in caroline joins his dress She has these like octopus tentacles coming out of her dress. You know like what I would see in the cartoon drawing Whereas morticia is just asleep.
It's elegant. She just glides around in the face That woman's like oh When you think about it, there's not a lot of shots of her doing much She just sort of like appears in she is like already there. She's move a lot And she is and she's everything and she's just got the it's a fierce It's just that perfect fierce that Angelica Houston has Oh, I love that woman I just love all the weird moments when she's like talking to like normal quote normal people And like the doctor and stuff when just like oh, you know, he's he's covering up blood and she's like he's like He's like he's a blood while not like he used to And stuff like that That's all the weird things like no one can like have a conversation with her like No, because she will she she weirds nothing to her later And I have a funny story that the director told about the worst scene he filmed And it involves more tissue. He said he absolutely hated this.
He hated the person he had to be in order to get the shot It's where she's reading the story to the children Right. Yeah, that's so good. These children were mesmerized by her. Yeah, so do you know when they all cry at the end?
Do you know what he had to do? I told them they're all getting a vaccination after one is really gonna hurt And they all burst into tears and that's how we got he shot And he went I hate the person I was because I had to tell them children that they were gonna get a vaccination That would really hurt them and they would end up being in pain and crying and yeah Because they were mesmerized by her. They weren't getting what they wanted out of her She was doing that good of a job reading them a story It could have worked with them mesmerizing things. That's a very witch-like thing to pull off I love that like I've seen that scene like used in other people's clips and stuff This is the perfect like it's like the worst things happen to all the children that cry in And then we'll want to like the kind of the kids actors as well Like like as we mentioned christian racy and jimmy workman who played puddly as well Normally kids in movies let's be honest are the things that as the downfall and the things that kind of like takes you out because Child actors, I'll be honest most of a shit most of them are just a little bit annoying Yeah, but these had a little bit of more to them, like especially pugly and obviously racy Was Pugly was had a little bit of like innocent charm and it kind of you kind of felt them.
They kind of like oh bless him Right though. He doesn't like flow of any of his lines or anything I'll say anything in a weird like sentence like and then they would just leave it in because they couldn't get better tick He comes from um he comes from stock where this is this is normal life for him He comes from child after these two of his sisters are both child actors now gone on to be adult actors the shoner um What's with his surname? Sorry? uh workman Workman so shoner workman and I think I was doing a bit disservice by putting christian's on self-take christian's Yeah, his older his older sister is a real winner who is the sister in modern family Okay So when he he actually was with her for an It might have been shorter because she was a bit older and aerials a bit younger And there were there were in an audition he was in an audition with her Just he just had a hangout there because I have a very bad relationship with her mum and and the director come up And what you doing here?
He went I'm just here with my sister she's having an audition. He went come with me I wanted to read this line and that's how we got the job with pugly Okay, because I know jayk's already mentioned it But the like the actual when they're in the player the kids and the doing Shakespeare and being pirates in sword fight That scene is unbelievably well done. Like I couldn't I couldn't imagine adults doing that is good No, and it's the dead pan reaction of the audience where the blue It's like like the brutality of it as well like again, I know we've done these podcasts for so long You do monsters and we've talked about like the effects it has on people like if you talk about like the guy Like city access and the effects have had it on What's in the unknown? Linda blirth like and stuff I when you put in like a situation it will have an effect But it's kind of like hopefully again an old christy racing looks like she's done a well-adjusted Adults and being very successful career But when you watch the scene now it is quite shocking when you're seeing wensley arms take a shot in the neck and saying bloods burn out And then fall on the floor the faces go and play because of the blood loss That's a comedy shoot though.
I think everyone's like we're okay In a better headspace But I feel like some horror directors were going a bit too far on like Yeah, yeah It would have been terrible if it was in the hands of a horror director it would have been I think their child like falling about and bumble and kind of really helps the scene to make it yes We're not gonna focus on all the fact that all this blood is like spilling out of them What we're gonna focus on the fact is that it's going on to the adults. Oh, yeah They don't know how to react to it Like I love how proud like Gomez and Morticia and Vesterado It's such a moment. It's the thing that was not that people always like I think forget about Adam's family It's like yeah, like there are a bunch of like freaks and they do weird stuff Like you're digging graves and like smashing each other in the head But they all love each other at the end of the day Yeah massively and I actually have a link to this episode to monster's episode And it all relates down to grandma mama Oh, yeah, she passed in the sick in a single hole. I think so.
Yeah Yeah, I can double check but I'm sure that's not the same actress That's very different. That's totally weird as hell Yeah, I'm probably thinking of like the second one No, the makeup when one was because the behind the scenes it showed you them all in like their makeup But everyone looks super she looked it didn't look great Something looked a bit disjointed but yeah, my link is that the actress who played her Judith and Malian Malian really sorry if I'm saying that wrong and her husband was Julian Beck Oh Julian Beck is the weird guy from poli guys who died and he will be in my episode on Monday Oh The only other one to mention I guess is lurch. Yes, who's the giant from Twin Peaks? He's also the alien and men in black I guess killed by Vincent Denefrio Doctor's name as well as Oh yeah Yes, it's the big Yes, constantly yes, he actually he actually came back I believe at Twin Peaks the return Right, I want to say yes Because I've been seen as constantly No, he's not I thought the same thing last night Yeah, and I went to go and check and no, no, he's still very much alive He's such a he's such a legend, but he's not the kind of guy Um because I don't think English is his first language He's not the kind of guy who ever would get like proper starring roles But the look of him is so like perfect for film Yeah, he just gets cast like loads of stuff and he just uh He's like a constant in our lives Oh absolutely and these credits are which is a week's week and Star Trek next generation Adam's family Adam's family reunion David Lynch's and Twin Peaks Twin Peaks the return And seeing King's a shine in sequel Sorry, top of sleep And I'm just trying to find out about Grandma Yeah, I mean, she's like she's nothing special, I guess in this movie But there's a bit she has a bit more to do in the second one Yeah, they're trying to like fix the baby and stuff like that There's a talk about the Grandma though There's a joke in this because there's loads of little jokes that's just absolutely brilliantly done Yeah, and I was in Kingslaff and I actually put a note on a thing to remember it as well When they were doing like a family recipe cooking and she had like a coop in one side of it And she had careers in that to be on the other No I was like, yes, because the mixture also kind of lives a bit through this as well Yeah, it's what she just put the hand in, it's like Fester and Fugsley like, that's not fair It's when she puts the plates down and Fester like looks at it and And she gives it this like very French elegant like name and she just goes start with the eyes first Yeah Oh, yeah, like what do you think about the whole like weird because they do this a couple of times Where it's like Fester gets like taken out with a family or something I mean, it's like a good mystery that the scene I like to have a mystery for that the solved on It's a bit of a weird idea to go for for our introduction to like Adam's family to be like Oh, here's a switcheroo.
Is it Fester? Is it not? Also his is evil mother like mother Fertelli And now she's a German doctor. She makes me she makes him the Fertelli's mom look almost normal Yeah, do you know what pindish do you know what pindish Shouse or whatever she was called means in German?
No, it just means not house if you translate it like literally Oh my goodness You're learning with nerds now Learn a lot tonight and grandma of course it was I'll kick myself because the minute I saw it I knew exactly who played grandma in the second one. It's Carol Kane Yeah, I thought it was I thought that was the cheers Again, it's jayx just said it very interesting thing before It's like the storyline for this was so convoluted and complicated at times Especially for like a like a kid's well A family movie tax and everything yeah the family money and like new businesses next quarter or something Again Down to the brass tax of it and I'd say the the simple Simple aspect of the plot it is just basically like say the bad guy's trying to rob like the weed Or's out of the money and out of the house The way that went about it. It's like oh fester disappeared for 25 years ago This guy looks like fester So we're gonna bring them in uh got the guy who plays tully who is one of those people that you would never know the name But he has been in so many films that you instantly recognize because he's like one of those actors that never play like a main part Or a big name but he's always kind of there You know if the dad and clueless do you guys remember the cast member movie as well? Yes, um, there's like a character like him in that as well Because there's like the two guys who were trying to like rob the cast member mansion and get rid of the ghosts and stuff So like yeah, yeah, like it's very like it's very trope But I think that's why everyone still loves it because it's like, you know, you know exactly what you're gonna get you're gonna get Puns and weird stuff.
You're gonna get rald julia sword fighting a lot The ball saying was just fabulous like Well, yeah the graveyard with the In it somebody took a shot of it. There is some interest in graves in that graveyard That's not looked at properly and probably weren't for children Yeah, there's that line when he's like we sang them a mushkin for jack the river Wall came down and all that weird stuff. Did you did you just want to actually play wake the dead when you watch this movie because I kind of wanted to Like yeah, like I said, I don't spend the look like there would be a really fun time to hang around with You can just sort of get away with anything into them. It's like it's no big deal We're rich i can with golf balls at the like a judge Like that.
It doesn't matter like i'll replace his windows easy Yeah, I was just gonna say like I love how as well. There's like a weird thing where you can't really tell what country There's supposed to be from because like no There's so many different like references Yeah, they leave it like up in the air. Don't like it. I quite like that.
It's quite makes it like I'm gonna be good Say, oh, I don't know actually where they're from. I've just read something interesting that you've mentioned earlier on that you couldn't believe that This is not a timvert movie. Yeah, he was actually asked to do it. Yeah, and he turned it down Sordid Terry Gillinam.
Oh, I told him what a bit of two weird Yeah, oh, yeah, this way we wouldn't be talking about this movie Like Also, I just remembered about the cast in a vangela Houston And was a big big they really wanted her and but they also wanted another actor What actress singer who if you look at her back in her here, do you? Is mortish Adams share so she says no when angela Houston gets the role she says why didn't you I share didn't ship around this time win an Oscar She fucking Oscar winner. Um Yeah, I think she might I think she might have won an Oscar round of this time. I'm not not not long long before this So yeah, this this is this Simpsons.
Yeah, definitely Because I think she was a bit big for the movie. I think I'll be honest with you. Yeah, but sharing something with the sunian shirt era She is mortish Adams that long black hair. She would be absolutely stunning No, I don't think cuz she doesn't do so Morticia Adams is so she had to be quiet a lot and I don't know if she had the capability to do that Yeah, because like like mortish Some of the best lines that I just like like sneaky throw away once like like when she's like helping like best to unpack and stuff And he thinks he's gonna get cut out like Like the side I like as if we'd run out This is a calmness down joker who's performance.
I think not many people would have done that in that phone I know we've had Wednesday recently with cafe and zeta joins as morticia Adams looks fantastic But still doesn't have the same vibe if that Any of the cast and for like the family like in that one like and I know what they were going for and stuff But I just thought was we The dad the dad the dad gomez in the wednesday looked exactly like Charles alums has drawn Like it was it was very accurate I think captain zeta johnson did a brilliant job But she had some very big shoes to fill and she was just she just wasn't gonna cut match up to angelic accused in any way She could have put the performance of a lifetime on and we still would have been going we love angelic use them It's an angelic who's gonna be in the season two though. Oh my god. I'd never heard that is she really I've heard rumors I don't know I might I might be just meeting shit up that's in streams She's gonna be granny That would be cool I would say that Well, she probably wouldn't want to get into the dress again because the poor woman had to wear a metal corsets To get into that yeah, ow That's all I can say is how But uh, I think as jay said the physical comedy and like the hilarity is what made this work so much as well And it didn't go half-assed with the jokes as well Like all the like things that the days like when they did the mammoscale and the sword fighting Like oh what they're gonna do there. They're gonna be a fester swaddled the sword as well.
It was like absolutely yeah That's like when he when he's like so I guess it's like his memories like his muscle memory kick it in because It opens before he starts that dance. We're not really sure if he knows what to do He picks it up towards the end one thing I do want to say and again Um, I'm gonna try and word this right because again I don't want to offend anyone anything like that because the movie does showcase a lot of different like say different Um if you're watching like an episode of monsters a while ago when you did an episode of freaks That there was a lot of like showcase to that but they never talked for that That was the thing that was very respectful. Everything was quite done in quite a loving way like the signing is twins like fauna and flora Um was like the love triangle between uh fester and gomez, which was like absolutely brutally done Um, I thought that was so well done by this. Maybe that could have went a different way.
I could have went look at all these Interesting characters. We've got let's let's laugh at them. Let's see the instrument positions Like we use the word freak in a derogatory way as opposed to a Movie and the only people there insult is gomez technically like you know everyone just calls him an idiot Which he kind of is He's a little bit yeah, he's a romantic cara mia Like Yeah, the romanticism between them two is just like You put that clip on the socials poll race just like get out and die for her Either way, it's bliss That's like all the comments is like the wrong is common to the world. It's like hot porkers Um, like the wheel of torture and he's good later gomez Yeah, like in the middle of like the action scene as they tried to like fight so yeah Which is this thing.
I don't know if it's the first in our second one where she's like you were an animal You would arrange you went a hinged Yeah Yeah, um a lot of couples try live up to that, but you know nobody holds a candle at least two free Everyone everyone wants that more to sure and gomez really can't know because they actually enjoy being depressed They just don't make sense when you try and like explain it In like the thing like where he's like, oh, you know, he's a slob a layer of out and stuff Just like not anymore Like they want each other to be at their worst and they just like enjoy it apparently I think that's like a good message for relationships as well. I know a lot of people go what but needs to be perfect It doesn't have to be a perfect relationship You just got to be very happy and very comfortable with yourself and the person who you're with as well And they are very like accepting and known what they are Gomez is so accepting that he manages to Like suspect fester and then turn it around to be in his fault again like within like When he's just like yes displacement, that's it It's my fault Even though he's like living with a con artist But I like that it is dead cute though how like I mean Yeah, we're talking about uncles fester and gomez Adams And yet we're saying like the relationship is really sweet and cute like the way that sort of like Like his memories slowly come back and stuff and like, you know, they go like the vault together and like have that weird like You know, you've got to like pull the right lever and then like they have the gondola rise It was very guineas movement so to get the rest of it Like everything seems to be like a one-eye-willy trap. It's like oh, get through the bookshelf go down the slide pull the right lever And then go there to watch like family movies together like in like, you know, the generic old country that they never really explain like Whether like the live life Dracula's I guess and like That's that she is best director when they put the window kids and have the shark pins and they're going to go in And I was like, yes Like just I know we talked about like the lot of this for the but like the set pieces as well Like the actual things that they put in like at the start that clock that moving elements and everything That is so well done like all the pieces and then you get like some of the weirdest shit you'll ever say I think it was totally walking through the room. He not only just gets attacked by the gate the gate is called gate It's got some life in person Then the polar bear rogue attacks them I was scared of those rugs as a kid.
I don't know where I saw one, but I did once and I was like I always wanted one to tell me mom how to remind us where they came from and I was like, no, you're okay I'm fine. And then there's the foliage. I can say if you get too close to the gardens and the bushes They'll eat you as well. So literally dead on you.
Yeah It's I would then you get like as well like if you look at the house They've got escape pods and they've got the names on as well. So Wednesday and pods. He's got the one like the skid pods and how they get out the house rooms Yeah, yeah, because like if we take everything this is seriously about the family like they've been like which And the little thing that's just come to me head even though I've closed enough top down and I've just remembered it Wednesday has a middle name This is how this is how far Christina Ritchie went into creating this character. No, you close those there.
No one day Nope, sorry Friday Friday Yeah, Wednesday Friday So far she went she created a whole thing. Okay, I did like how she had the doll with like the missing head But she also keeps the head around I feel like not enough golf girls did that in real life. No, there was there was a time and it was more around the corn earring of the corn doll and And isn't them glory not glory. Oh, what's on the end?
She's in Buffy. I remember her. Oh, yes She's in this isn't she's in this Yeah, that's like a stealth drop for characters in the sequel like the just as the Girl Scout thing But she's the girl at camp isn't made of real lemons. I can only have real lemons my body can I take it organic?
Oh, how annoying and then it took it took us so many years to catch up on the American Bally girl culture And then the turn is your girl's go could he's made of real girls cats? I'm telling you now though. They missed a trick there because by all accounts girls get cookies are delicious and they should have done that trade for lemonade Did you see what happened to put per will urge after a class? Yeah, it's not the very near American Statue of American directors love to put in the movies.
Yeah, some reason like the wooden Native American statues Yeah, lurch doesn't get much to do in this one, but he is just kind of the driver sort of classical Look really wasn't it? So and all we weren't meant to do the sequel as well But like with us all having a busy week Think it's weird because I love the first movie and I just agree with the thing But I do think Adam's following values is a bit of movie I think we'll talk about there as well like I'm sorry I'm fine. It just gives us a chance to dive back into it a little bit as well That is true enough But yeah, but no, it's weird because this film when I watched it last night It doesn't feel like a movie that was came out in 1991. So it's scary.
I think that's like how old is it? I can't do the math on a poll. Yeah, because it's too present You're right though It doesn't feel eighties and I guess if what your sins right about being sort of like one of the bigger blockbusters It probably like led like led the charge on like what movies would look like for the next decade or so Um now that I'm thinking about is this is this to blame for us getting friggin like Dennis the menace movies Any richy rich any other stupid comics I need to say a thing from the kids era or anything that the studios could get their hands on the thoughts And the word wrong like the Dennis movie made money. Um, I still think it's a decent movie It's not the Dennis the menace that we got it was the American Dennis with it.
Yeah another Christopher Lloyd Vehicle as well as the oval Yeah, Dennis that Dennis fought but again totally on Unrecognizable in that role, but then we got richy rich, which is a terrible movie But it did well it did well when you watch you guys I had to see that at the pictures because it wouldn't let me in the street Right, right? Yeah, it was either street fight or mottle combat and I had to go So richy rich and it was bad, but I think the big thing what this movie did as well As somebody said with Barry son I feel like the career he got after this he did as I said I'm funny values he done men in black get shorty Wild Wild West Now that now that I think about it I'm pretty sure he uses the same font like on the credit or been in credits for men in black You know that like that long right? Yeah, yeah, I know exactly what you mean And he seemed like a really like when he was talking about it Obviously this is years later down the line He talks with about this movie in high regard But he does want to stress that this was his first ever movie and he was very scared of the whole process And because he put he knew he thought to himself it's either people are gonna really really love it Although they're gonna really really hate it and then they're gonna hear me because I've made them hear to the Adams family Yeah, but it comes from a good background as well. Did you see what movies he worked on before this movie?
So big Yeah When Harry Metzali I was gonna say the portrait of Festa does look a bit like Zoltar Um one for Sammy for a little bit misery Yeah, so it did it has it has got a beautiful it has got a good background and If you look at the I'm just only like the palette and everything as well Beautiful everything is just stunning as everything is on point Yeah, there's so much there's so much black in like the color palette But you can see everything like it's like it's lit super well Which must be quite hard when every character is wearing black and white With way more black but then not actually the not and the black and white doesn't come in until it's actually brown And it's like a brown and white but the um the costume that was talking about caroline jauncees costuming how you know similar it is to more And what she's like angeles cute and the what's the Sean? Sean has since daddy what's he called? I don't know he's dad daddy Thomas Adams in the original oh, right. Yeah, I can't remember his name by nor do you mean Yeah, like back well to be fair The back in the day when it didn't have something it was one of the most colorful shows that was one because nothing would show It's black and white so all the stuff like pink and stuff Look at the monsters.
It's like luminescent green in like real life And yeah, but gromes in the tv show to gromes here Rall Julius slimlined everything to have that suit like a sleek as her dress whereas in the tv show It's boxy which which actually goes against the fashion green in office 60s because the time men were wearing like Dick my day show was incredibly huge at the same time and their outfits were sleek and skinny and he went with a boxy kind of suit to go against I think that was just his bill because it was quite a short Broken original No, this is this is what it was saying in this video that he was literally going against everything of fashion at the time And make everything more exaggerated. We're kind of sticking with the pinstripe suit I think it's john asston. I think that's what he's daddy's name is called possibly i didn't look um One thing like when you're watching back and I know there's a lot of beautiful shots But the one shot that kind of didn't realize and it's it's like a comedy shot It looks like every element do it is tim Burton and you can see it's scream to burn Is when gromes is walking down that staircase and goes down to the other one to go back up And like it's like the front door and the two staircases up and it's just so elongated and it just looks Beautiful like as you said with the film on the photography and stuff I got like the photography and this movie They got everything spot on and right um from the claw then and everything in the The dancing the ball scene and I know we talked about earlier like how ridiculous cousin it could have looked like what he looked amazing And just here Yeah, like all the characters talk to talk to it so convincingly that you don't even sort of You don't even need to know because like the way like the characters like actually talk to it as if they can understand like it's just like It's great I love the ends of it's like what his wife though. Yeah, I can't think of the actress's name But she's another actress who would say she's been in everything.
Yeah, it's because I think it's so like distinctive and I'm out and everything like you can just Like she's just so expressive with the really wide eyes and everything that's great I'm gonna need to get a finger trap to see if somebody can get over it Probably can't and I'll probably be sat here for the rest of me like he's just trying to get out I remember in Paris that that's what that was one of the tricks that they used to do to try and get money out of you Is try and grab your hand to take a camera like to look at your hand and then they would put your in a finger trap And then you would have to pay money to get out of the finger trap I'm like I'm taking this there It's my thanks So we're gonna try and get something in a finger trap now. So that's fine. It has to be one of those times dragon ones though If you can get one I would more than happy but you've got a promise that if I start a panic, please let me out What do you say about that? So if you're rating this movie out of five Like to take the nostalgia factor out.
Yeah, because I think we should start doing that because the ratings are very hard Hi based on nostalgia So what jick what you're in is out of five I think I would have to go for a four Because it's like a really amazing like first shot at the park's a lot of the thing where it's like it's like an untested Like cast crew like you said the director was really nervous. It was the first time at least but They like put this on the map and I don't think that would have got a sequel if it was like, you know Another 90s weird kids bomb movie like those many But I like the sequel better. I think there's like like more like meat on the road to like to talk about on the sequel Um, so I think I would probably you know spoilers give that five stars instead. Yeah Well, that you sony I'm gonna go.
I'm gonna say four cool because I will take the nostalgia factor out And but you know, it's the aesthetic the like you said earlier the palette the story the characters morticia, you know, I've Lived a goth life for a long time and she She I'm not saying she is a starting point because she isn't my starting point will always be alvira And but if you don't have alvira if you don't have morticia atoms So But yeah, I'm gonna give it a four. I think it's a brilliant film But if we are taking nostalgia out of it, yeah, then I need to take a point off cool I want to be a little harsher because so I'm gonna say a three not because I didn't love this movie I said if I want to take the rose tented glasses off like you know, I watched this and I loved it and I love it now The story is a bit too complicated for what it needed to be at times the ending did feel rushed Like it kind of like got to like this little burner and then it kind of rushed everything to the point I forgot to say it but doesn't like you know, like they're having that whole like tussle in the library or whatever like the drawing room Like it kind of just ends that with them running away and nothing really happens to the bad guys does it? And that's how like blinked and missed it. Okay, so that's why the hurricane boot kind of So you don't have to die or anything.
So yeah, it's kind of like everything just kind of rushed to the point And as you said with a bit of sin. Oh, yeah, I am Fungal faster and it's like oh yeah it rounds everything up nicely But it doesn't quite like take every box or finalize everything Kind of explains like all the different stuff that's happened before or anything like just like oh fuck it's another lost This is the 80s and 90s and the mysterious what you call it program everyone had fucking amnesia Yeah, it is a 90s. It was right for that. So I was bringing some quicksand as well.
Just like But yeah, like if I'm gonna be like ultra ultra harsh that would be As I said with values would be high because you get Debbie and Debbie is a fucking force to be reckoned with The mystery angles a lot better than that one because it's like the mystery of what's wrong with the kid Like the mystery of who Debbie is and watches up to everything I'm kind of glad in a way that we did take the second one out because I feel like if we were doing two together Would be rushing to get get to the values. Yeah, exactly. Um, so I would like I like the idea that we can give it It's on space and it's on time because it really deserves it to be just on its own is it on singular movie? Yes, and we'll try and get Lee on that one as well because Lee will dress up as gourmet snow but no doubt I thought he's not even a seasick of jessin turkey You make this one a watch like the next one Um, so it's been like it's one of those things It's an nostalgia first for everything that came out and it's set in precedent for what a key am after and give us so So again, it's a trend setter and again I know it sounds weird saying this but it changed a way a lot of movies came out and were made at the time So again, always be thankful and always be quite excited to promote the other one I don't think it kind of gets the love that a lot of 90s movies do is get it's kind of like a forgotten child But it's one of those ones where it does get forgotten, but then you mention it different.
Oh, yeah, I love that one Yeah, and like Wednesday is almost like a different thing completely really like it's it's really it But it's like totally different and has like obviously there's nothing to do like all of that Adam's family's have kind of nothing I do with each other. It's a very like that though. Yeah, yeah, I do I don't like Wednesday that much, but like I say it's so different. It doesn't take anything away from this I'm not like thinking like oh, I'm gonna send out a magic teen school Every time I just go to the wicked school Oh, she's got a friend who's really colorful and she's the evil I got it I got it Defy Graa The It's It's outside You just ruined Wednesday for us We'll never be part to be fairly regardless and it's so that's gonna be interesting to see how that all So Yes, um, but yeah, so what is happening tomorrow?
Sorry It's Sunday people today is Sunday. Oh, yeah, I forgot to have a live Chris your dick. Thanks for watching Tomorrow at tomorrow monster Monday. This is the best Oh, here we get the days and there's that lesson Oh, yes And so that's out Gavin watched it already watched the last episode of um whatever else we don't have done which I think top grumps has come out last week. Rumble cast was the week before we say w Halloween havoc which is very much like the Addams family that intro. So next week on the Nelly Upkast podcast it's going to get dark so it gets sad. It's going to be interesting because we're doing Stephen King's It.
