Hey everyone and welcome to a new episode of the Nerdy Up North podcast, the nerdy podcast hosted by two Northern Nerds I'm one of your hosts Sam and I'm the other host Paul and today we're joined by a very special guest very special. It's my Makiela The probably most annoying lists we've ever joined on this podcast Two seconds to tell us about yourself and what you do yes So I live in Sunderland and I am a aqui raier up here and honestly I'm probably one of the worst guests you're gonna have because I don't like comics don't like toic like I'm like hey horror films and I hate games, but I am a massive Nerdy love her films. I love films. I love culture.

I love high culture and I love the very very local. So I'm sure we're gonna have a very nice conversation That's what I was a little bit like nerdy aspect because you might not like most of the things But everyone will have a little bit of a nerdy aspect to themselves where the conviliators and that's actually why I start Why we do this? And yeah, Michaela's not a fan of comic books or comic book movies, but she will jump on a bandwagon if Everyone else is watching it. We killable watch it and an allorian is the example that I will use Can I just say I don't like I don't mind sir was and it was good.

It was good for I'll admit look I love past my various films. I love them kind of films I have my own mean me my partner Steven will watch the worst of the worst films If anyone mentions the family or puts up a meme about the family any of the getting chucked off sorry No, I'm done seeing Vin Diesel space it's good now stop. It's not funny So this week our top five list is guilty pleasures guilty pleasure movies I'm not guilty about anything I like so Talked about films and stuff with people and people look at a strange No, it's still I get something from a film. It doesn't really matter So this has been an absolute nightmare probably changing about four or five times more than any I'm even changing this morning So yeah, I had a conversation with Carolyn this morning and mine got changed straight away straight away I had all sorts on here.

So we're gonna kick it off with our guest. She's gonna go first So what is your first pick? So this is the one I changed this morning So I was just about popping the shower and a song came on from a soundtrack and I was like oh my god I love this song but when I'm like on the tree and I'm saying I'll turn it right down I'm like I don't want anyone So that's kind of the guilty pleasure aspect of it of just like I love this film And we've just just before we came on and we're talking about how Disney was a massive part of our childhood still is I still have Disney I know the remass of evil corporation, but give me a different movie any day And the one I picked for my guilty pleasure is from 2013 It's directed by Jennifer Lane Chris book and it is frozen I picked frozen because and it was also it wasn't even the first soundtrack. I was listening It was the second movie soundtrack I was listening to which I think is even worse, but um I You're probably doing frozen.

It's a massive film like you know like a KM out and it was like made like billions I think a lot of people love it. I was 24 when it came out Like a childhood thing of nostalgia in that I just think it's a beautiful film. It has a lovely female Narrid is about it. It's about sisterly love which makes me cry It doesn't make my sister cry about our relationship and it's just one of them films where people are like oh Like frozen, but yeah, it's pretty beautiful Yeah, and this one looks fantastic and In a men's out I absolutely adore like anything she's in like she is like say a alphabet in my No one else else will replace my eyes from forget but yeah It's neat probably the least favorite Disney film and I am one of the biggest Disney fans I've got Disney tattoos all over myself as well, so I It's one of them things where I think Story came after the songs and you can tell because the songs are like say a catchy as hell Like I want to build a snowman and let it go with her a million times Which is brilliant thing, but I think the story came afterwards and I know he's in sisterly thing But that is Disney through and through but I just didn't get the film as much as yeah Well, I think I can agree with you to a point for the main character also and as much as you can argue the fastest It's not about a love story.

I guess it's a love story in it But it's not the princess gets swept away issues that independent woman And we're trying to find herself and as much as it is Disney princess And you are gonna have little girls about it at least they're not gonna let it go and on it I pass out and go in a bloody glass coffin get kissed by a man at least like it's our real this kingdom This is for me and I'm singing a bang and song whilst I do it. Yeah, I get that There is no guilt of me I remember when I watched it. I watched it. I watched it.

My mom and dad's and when I finished you came in and I'm like Don't get it. I really don't get it and we got into it about about that Yes It's not Pixar frozen though, it's one of the Disney Disney Yeah It's totally good Yeah, certainly I'll see if I can get it with the one lined up now again It's not really cool because I think it's a brilliant film and I've got with with Michaela's a lot of the five of mine All have musical aspects to it and you probably see the songs and before like see you watching the film So I'm just gonna get it up so trying to because I've been far put on YouTube and now it's got the mics It doesn't work through YouTube as well as the headset. So I don't think I was at the box here. So let's see if this works so Oh Yeah It's like a whole film at certain times But like see when you think of the cast like John Travolta, you know John and it was probably the first one as well Where they had teenagers but had most of the cast in the 30s Even though it was cheesy and like say the music makes grace like all the songs like Grace lightning So I'm loving and when you sit now as a look at before even a teenager watching that you've gotten along thinking This is great, but it has actually got some interest in like teenage pressure and like say Like trying to force people to have sex before the audience stuff like that Which and trying to be one of the cool kids and saying or after certain we are being certain we have to be cool And so we all kind of related that and we are at school Which you don't really think about which as a musical type film as well But the message at the end is change you'll get your man like it's not really a nice message at the end now I look great.

Don't get me wrong. I will watch it He changed for her so Yeah, I do like Greece and I Can't really talk because it'll ruin things so you should go ahead and have a conversation Interesting in your opinion just like I like I like it and I can't because it'll ruin things. I can't talk Six-day when I remember me childhood like say films I used to watch all the time at the Guinies star was Indiana two ones But Greece was always one of the ones I was on as well and I guarantee Because I used to come on on a Saturday or Sunday morning Maybe on TV or something used to sit there and whenever you just want you just watch it even if you were half through You would always put on and just continue watching it. Yeah, you could you could pick it up at any point and still enjoy the shit out of it It's them.

I love the decades. I love the costumes. I love that You know the era of it is fantastic. It's well up my street when it comes to like film nostalgia I do like it and I'm gonna move into my first one Because it'll transition well and this chord 37% on rock tomatoes.

It was in 1982 directed by Patricia Burch and yes, it is a spoken Greece to because sorry Paul But Greece to is better than grief one and I will fight anyone who says otherwise it has the better songs It has the better cast it's got a lot of love in it and it's got Chris de Behmab Donald Come on, you got shoot him a Gavin in this film. I think I didn't get it because I didn't understand I'm sorry because I thought was gonna be a direct sequel so when I saw the t-birds I thought that it's short one was meant to be Danny Zugo. I was getting that sometimes So I absolutely love Greece to it's got just from start to finish every song is memorable every song you can sing along to And I do at very loud levels to the annoyance of my husband and I just I love it I absolutely love it. It beats Greece one for us every time every time because that's why I was thinking about Greece too But now listen to that stuff stupidly listen to both soundtracks last night and the ones that stuck to her Was the Greece one soundtrack I think it was more iconic sounds and it kind of resonated a bit more But I'd say it's a good show.

It's like say what was the songs read production? Oh the ball in one man absolutely loves the ball in one Let's rock and roll. Yeah, I just love it. I'm very quiet.

I've seen it No, never want to I have not seen a single scene Michelle Fyfer is actually quite good. That's like I can't say shit. I feel like I would watch it. I see it's very corny.

It's pop beat Like I love musical so but I just never ever want to be like I want to watch that. It's like Greece. I like Greece I don't love Greece. I would love to be at the sea Greece.

I'd like to see it in a musical sense It's just kind of like it's always like it's that it's that film where it's just always like there in your life Yeah, and it's one that I just said before if it's on you can you wouldn't turn it over if that makes sense if you Do a flick into the channels you would say I would enjoy this for a little while and grace to you would have as As I said, you would have to probably score a lot when for it because I don't think it was that widely popular When we Wasn't it wasn't I never own yes, I've never owned it on them on VHS I did own Greece one. I always remember the copy that I had a Greece one. I wrote my name in it Don't know why I'm gonna feel this they know what's gonna take it from is But I always remember writing my name on it I think it's because I did the circus with my friends like they lent it and I'm like I'm very Possessive with my items and don't particularly like other people taking them and that's why I think I wrote Me and I do remember having my name written on the front of the you know the the bit at the front of the VHS Where it's got the sticker on yeah, definitely have my name written on there But me and my friends used to like we always used to fight over who would place Stephanie in Greece out of all of us And we had one blonde hair friend so she always got to place Stephanie Hey Who was there the principal she was in it the our assistant she was in it nothing the principal died shortly after Greece to I don't think she ever got to see it and But who's that Eugene you do the nerd yeah, he was in it he's in it again I'm sure he's been doing the rounds on social media recently as well I think I'm going to get that wrong as scafias as well What was he called it was the leader of the scorpions he would create a face That's the one he died shortly after Greece as well I am so bad at this I when we watch films and like these dead I'm going to do after the day and I was like oh my god I'm just doing you acting alongside each other and the fourth dead. Oh, yes that so yeah, he died shortly after em after Greece So there you go.

There's some trivia for you. So we're gonna be about to kill this second choice Right, so I am I used to I am got a film degree background And I've seen a lot seen a lot right and you know like the words of time and Sam will tell you this I'll be like I don't know why it's foreign I don't know why it's foreign I don't know why it's foreign I think now they can beat that that's literally gone and I'll be like my favorite films is this film and it's up there with it But truly truly my favorite film which is my ultimate guilty pleasure my ultimate I know what this is it was made in 1998 but it won best picture in 1999. Yeah, I know this is She's even though. Yeah, I knew you're gonna say this I had a feeling that this would come up And I actually think I've mentioned this on the podcast before that that being your favorite film I think unless such a private conversation being pulled out When I wrote Josephines Judy's Denge And we took like everyone knows he's a movie both at 99 is the ultimate Yeah, like the best films here 99 and then Shakespeare and love kind of set everybody a winner Picture like say the private rhyme within it, which I think they're absolutely over it over it But I love Which is just so obvious and so obvious songs like from beginning to end it's so like over the top It's so like oh, this romance I can't really like Rom-comy things on that but to me about the music I'm Mercy when I watch it.

I am I want to feel the love I want to think that it's like a real story even though it's absolutely not real I'm wrong here because I didn't film a little bit Actually, I think they're in London. I could be wrong because I remember rain selling about because I'm sure been affect Yes, totally Yeah, he did it. Sorry about Simon Cowell who's not Simon Cowell the other one the other Simon Cowell for once in a funeral Yeah, and how he was like he like found him on stage and he was like trying to like do his accent And then like you sit next to him while he's like reading the script and he's like doing a really bad impression of him Can I just admit this writing it right now? I've never seen it No, I've never seen it.

I know that it's one of Michaela's favorites And but never actually given it the chance I've never given it the time to watch it I've made when I saw the trailers and advertisements for it. It wasn't something that gripped us But when I watched it I loved it. I thought was a beautiful film And everything was like I said wonderfully acted Funny in times where you don't expect it to be funny and it was just done well I think and the costumes and everything made it stunning. Yep, absolutely It's on to two hours and I will not watch a film passing out now like I'm very much like this is my attention span Like do not give me a three hour epic not a chance and but every minute of that film I just love it.

I loved it. I have the soundtrack. I'm like for all going around Sunday Laneless and the bloody Tuda bloody violin music It gets it is like it is a connie film. It's really corny like it's about Shakespeare So it's had to be a little in the scenes at times But yeah, that's what you like about it as well and again I know I've been in stuff before but this was the film that kind of Oscar for it too and I thought she was British for years Oh Now like it's really How he like campaigned and it felt like they were like this film only one because of Harvey Weinstein Yes, it's not it's not saving for a ride.

It's not the major It's not only the mason like 99 films which I'm like saving for a ride on the Miramax as well. Oh, I taught you I Couldn't tell you probably do a lot of films in it. Yeah And There are certain like there's a place in that for these films for like Robert Corney love fest and I know we don't get the pleasure, but why is one thing as lesser than another one? Yeah I am like the ladies king when it comes to film stuff anything from the 80s is called I can't say anything bad about anything any films where a lot of people say this or it would it's what you care about If something that you've watched at a certain point in your life as well, then it resonates That's what I love about films You can still go back and get that to your memories when you watch it for the first time But yeah, I'm actually a fan of our own process It's a good because it is a fantastic film and it was probably one of the ones Actually, I would say it because when I saw it I thought this wasn't going to be something I would enjoy But I love it I was not finished.

Yeah, good choice. I remember watching it I've been watching it with my parents and they've got sex scenes in it When it comes to stuff like that was when I watched with you parents Two seconds What's this? Yeah No, I'm a thumbs up. You make the feel uncomfortable with and stuff like that.

And it's it's quite it's quite on the nose But I think what Jim Kerry when I watched with was it me myself and Irene and I didn't expect the sex scenes in that to be as graphic as the work So I'm gonna watch that with my parents that was a bit makes it not very nice So we're gonna move on to Paul's second choice So we now want to Paul's second pick. Cool. So again, well, I'll do I'll change up from the others I'm gonna go for my non-musical choice Again, not much shame, but this is probably the one that gets the piss taken out with the most in our society of nerd culture I would say it's one that involves vampires and devou our smartly vampires involved in this So it's from 2008 and sorry robert has in and Kirsten Stewart and Tyler Lola as Twilight and yeah, I do Enjoy I It's an enjoyable film. It's it starts getting a bit strange when like kids getting involved in like where we're also starting to imprint on kids But makes it that's in the future where Without the next year, I don't think Robert Pattinson's too bad in this film as well.

I think he's acting talking Kirsten Stewart again, not the biggest It's not Robert Pattinson the problem with it It's definitely not his fault and I really when it first came out I really enjoyed the first one and me and mikel about to see the second one in the pictures I enjoyed it then I wouldn't I can you mind it now like but at that time? Yeah, same here. Wow He said go for the guilty pleasures I was a guilty pleasure The I would have been in the 20s I think so yes I remember watching it because I was I think I was going down one Chester as well So I was reading the books and then when it came out I thought it was gonna be a little bit like Lost Boys or a little bit like Darker, but it was wasn't as dark But um yeah, I enjoy that's I think it's not a bad film and it gets quite a ridiculous like say some of the castes in it Quite good. Like I say, I like that like say that the Edwards family and stuff I can't remember the names now and I'll put the spot like the doctor and stuff.

I've seen him in other stuff He was in Spetley, I think yeah, but yeah, um, I can watch it again, but I don't know if I could go through the full series again Yeah, but I was always interested as well because I know the writer said she'd wrote a book I don't know if it actually not released from Edwards point of view rather than Bellas So that would be the one that I would have probably rather seen rather than having like Bellas as a figurehead He's just infuriating in that film. It's like it's dumb face like throughout the whole thing She just has this dumb expression on her face and there's no emotion in it You kind of tell anything of what she's thinking because it's dumb face the woman is getting stalked and just like You watch these things when you're younger and you're a bit more like now even you're like oh my god Totally. It's like no. Eachie is getting stalked.

It is creepy. It is mental like the golden smell. Yeah, I'll be like To just please it's creepy. She's sleeping in the bed and he's standing there like whack it off already I've ever read that part of the book or I'm never You know No, no, I've got the mental images now And I'm I'm when he gets excited.

There's don't shiny be pretty shiny other stuff I Know me the glitter kind of doesn't it so yeah, yeah, it really does that is a ball choice my friend ball choice When I was there, so yeah, so that's my number two thing that's my one. I would say it doesn't really have too many years of your elements So I remember the soundtrack being pretty decent. Yeah, but they have to like say the Bellas song as well that you wrote for a Apparently book in the book the minute it'd be this amazing thing and but when the film there was a bit Didn't really, yeah, didn't really hit as much as it did in the book You're like creepy You think you want the song written about yet, but you don't I see a block I've probably made a mix of this for a girl. I like when I was That is really different.

That is really different. All right. You ready to move on to my second choice. Who kills?

I love this one It's from 92 It's it's the highest scored one. I've on ronch mariros on my list and probably on any of my lists actually apart from Sean of the dead It scored 93% it is an absolute classic of a dance film I don't want to butcher this and say it's Australian on New Zealand because I Really can't look in street before room It's what killer Australian Absolutely love this film and it used to watch it all the time. I kill you can remember watching this with us Yeah, yeah, I've never liked properly officially saying I've just seen like the scene and spadle urban isn't it? So it's very like yeah, it is It's stunning.

It's like if if all room had its own gun like It's so it's so weird how like bent out the ship they get because he doesn't dance in the traditional ballroom stylings and it's ballroom dancing Like it's not that serious so the right dog that he danced in and so Oh, I just I think it's done and it's beautiful. It's funny. Like it's the cast is brilliant Um, I don't recognize any of the names of the cast It was very Australian humor because I like Australian humor in films like uh, I think the films now have My real wedding when that's the one Yeah, it's had that kind of type of food like even to one not to one for the other one ever so Do you want to be very different? They have quite a dark sense of humor.

I think that really boards well their films like this is full amount of And everyone should watch this one of the best on the mid is Mary Mac, which is an Australian animated film and it's So beautiful so funny so dark and they just have that like yeah It's the same with them. I know you're not big fan where you say you're not big fan of horror films because the horror in Australia or is a lot more Bliga yeah, if you love it world creek and Partly one of what was what was what was and it was brutal. It was very texas chainsaw masque Meets from it, but yeah When it comes to horror in Australia, not on the level is the Italian because the Italians were like balls of the wall They're horrible. They're grimaced I was looking at Australia Australian I think so I think so The most beautiful is horror films ever ever made ever it is absolutely unreal from start to finish It's it's it's main topic is depression.

No, it's just so fucking good. We'll go back to straight the ballroom. Yes It is phenomenal. I absolutely adore this film and it wasn't until I had a conversation with Carolyn this morning This was one of the ones that was I replaced the list I'm not I replaced the list for this film because I was talking to Carolyn She was just listening off the show and murials by now like I've never seen murials when and I was like oh my god Fucking I put this on the list.

So yeah, my number two choice is strictly ballroom and I will probably go watch it That's only why I say it as well. So she loves it as well So it was me and Nick get it me and Nick get we run the week at it But why do you think that it's a guilty guilty pleasure because it's about ballroom and it's about pretty much yeah I heard like it is very cheesy It is very cheesy If you give someone the premise of this film, I'll actually go and say it I don't know. I just I find it I don't think a lot of people would particularly like it because of all room aspect of it I was confused on the advertising because I was so sure that the main guy was Johnny Deppie looks so similar to Johnny Depp as well So we'll move on to Michaela's third choice. Yeah, right so I thought about this another game on last night and a song from the soundtrack popped in and I was like Oh my god.

Yes, like it's beloved like me and Sam absolutely love this film And I don't think many people do when I'll go through it later But this is a film that mccaulley called then should be known for when they do his oulogy Yeah, couldn't be home alone. It should be 2003 party monster party in the truck No one knows about the film It's directed by a friend in Bailey and Randy bar battle and I've probably Butchered his surname there and these are the guys behind wild percent said does all the revolve drag race and all that stuff and It's about the club kids and if anyone doesn't know about the club kids They were a group of people who would get dressed up and very have on guard he calls and very drag, you know Um and go out and party. Um, it's a big and in the film it is What is him like? It's basically like i like a like a a leg who murdered someone so it's all about like the culture behind that and then this murder Um just to get anyone's saying it because I know a lot of people haven't seen it and I love it It's not the best directed film.

It's not the greatest looking film The acting in it is like set greens in it any separate is there Or real enough. Um, you could argue that they're all like straight white mainly actors who were playing these very queer Um characters and but I just love it and this was a film that was a turn-point I think for Sam to have gone wow These people are out there this culture's out there and then it's just became an obsession And this guilty little pleasure film has took me to two drag race two parrots burning too too long food Like all these other like gay culture films that and I'm not gay at all. This is not my my um Community But I relate to them so much. Um, it's been like, you know, the little weirdo and I think every kind of nerd can have that in them It's been a little outsider and it's about murder.

It is but there's other aspects of it that it's just like costume makeup and everything now that's popular with what drag race is doing Um, and it's just a good ride really I'll I'll I'll vote my hands on this one. It's not one I've seen it's one I've heard about because I know I'm one of the biggest drag race fans But I'm I've never really dealt by none or Nick talks about it because he loves what we call the coconut It's one thing Nick's probably watched it with us a hundred times I'm guaranteeing the powerhouse and we've had party monster on because it was something that we used to watch and it not just part of us It led us to the actual documentary and the documentary We worked that came which is brilliant so good. Um, but I remember when this was it was trailer Bolden cinema and I remember it just on all the time like repeat repeat to the point where I got to watch it Watched it and then I just did to Michaela. I think I think that's how it went.

Yeah, because obviously I am younger than Sam She kind of showed me it now. It's just like Michaela got me in the drag race because Michaela was watching drag race well before I started I think I joined in series three and you'd already seen the first one because it used to be on channel four something Yeah It was terrible when I had the blurry camera effects on the pork chop and stuff that the first season the drag race wasn't good Okay It's not visually it's not great. It's just bright but some of the contestants are like come on Nina flowers like legendary I'm joined. Oh and I'm joined.

I'm just I've never cried so much in on China's win when she won the viva glam Um challenge. I pulled my eyes out And party monster is a good choice. It's got Marilyn Manson in it Boy come for controversial person at the moment, but he did play a good christina. I'm gonna say that he was um He was all right But my colleague called him and sex agreeing just works so well together so well and every one of sex greens costumes Clawed in next normal clothing were all jeans and james's they had to have the ball Yeah, you had to have the ball taken down because it's a very small person Um, so yeah, he had above all all but every single item of clothing he's wearing all the long sergeums He was very authentic for this, but it is from james's point of view the book is really good Um where the film comes from which I think the killer's got a copy you've got the copy of it that one Yeah, it's a good book.

It's Um, it's quite a you know what these people at that time were doing a lot of drugs and you know Yeah, like a quite like selfish beans But it was not that it was New York at the time wasn't it? That's right. Yeah, yeah Yeah, but if you if you want to know about like the history of New York at that time like if anyone's interested in that watch it It's not the best quality film. It's probably quite problematic but Just a little bit like you could go in the argument is like Having the oldest straight after this play and and I think like it was quite a multicultural place And I think the one person who's of color in it gets killed.

Yeah, you know, there's there's issues like that in it But it's like the spawn might Cultures in that it led to it led to one of the greatest documentaries and ever in my opinion is Paris Vernon I I know there's a lot of the little lead to it. I'm just for it But to me all like I got to watch it I got to watch it through that but and a lot of the cast from Paris is burning very much here to the production of it and how it was done Hit don't particularly like the director and but it really showed you the culture of of drag in in New York and the one of my great one of my fondest memories is sitting with my sister watching that in the shadow gallery Remember San Jojo gallery. Yeah, and you can yeah We went to go and see it with and we sat around it by a bunch of queens and it was just an absolutely fantastic night And then they had a ball afterwards. Yeah, to a ball which was brilliant was phenomenal.

Absolutely brilliant Such such good events that they're like watching showgirls with all them queens was just fantastic It was amazing and such a good choice I didn't even think of that when I was running through my list of films because that actually would have been online when I checked your last night. That's always that is that with it No, uh, just only if you we saw when the bill of art for a new castle with the police and went to see The drug act of recreating the greatest all and said it was really good. So wow my swing Please look out for that. Yes, we're gonna move on to your next one for So this is my number three.

So I'll play the song and you're here straight away Yeah, I can hear it Oh my god, I thought it was nine to five So No, I was queen doing flash. So yeah, before I got into star wars, I was introduced to this This film which again watching about now. I'll admit it is awful. It is literally one the worst film But I obviously love it how bad it is.

It's 1980 1980 it was flash Gordon which Was a direct. I don't know makes it because I know the comic came out first But it was during the time when star wars come out So every type of flexing studio was trying to produce and trying to meet on franchise to try and rival star wars or going wrong this And Again, some of the actors in this again, you're laugh Brian blessed max one. Awesome. I'm sort of Only you're gonna from pronouncing that right as press it over.

But As a kid watching out in the 80s and seeing everything happen like so all American blonde. I know it's cheesy I know it's uh, it's a stereotypical going off at this base to fight this intergalactic war which in essence, I'll begin bit is where they're playing like a friendly version of American football and It's it's just ridiculous as well. I just remember as well Timothy Dalton's in it as well as a kind of Cross-between Robin Hood and an alien which I remember he's out for the war And put this aspect in it that used to be terrifying and bring up the same time Like the robot thing when he melted up the end was very very close to the last arc when his eyes popped out and bulged and everything And when they were on one of the planets still had this like kind of rock where to test you manlyhood or test if you're worthy You put your hand in the rock and if you weren't worthy This thing would bite you and kill you instantly with the poison and nice Just the sheer terror of these people you've like you've seen him sweating and or it was a film and when you watch it now It's so badly done But remembering it as a kid And I say it just brings back all them childhood memories and thinking like if this happened What would it be like and I know again that going back to what we came and said about the last film There is a lot of controversy with this with the whole white wash and type of thing with meaning the merciless being by a British guy Which isn't exactly like say a PC friendly in these days You probably won't get away with it and like say newer films these days as having the Asian stereotypical put back then It was just like say comic book fodder comic book please if that makes sense And this kind of started me on the road of sci-fi and getting into moving on to like this is my entry into films like Star Wars When you watch that and you watch Star Wars I think fuck me Star Wars is like so many light years I know using Star Wars reference so Flash Gordon was but for a lot of kids at that time saying flash Gordon and make I know a pick from your dad's age They used to read the comics when they were kids of flash Gordon And it was just like saying quite a revolution again Having queen doing the soundtrack for you for your movie It's not a bad thing and I bet you even just seen a picture of flash Gordon You say blind resident here blind resident just screaming a year Gordon's alive Hotman dive and his usual tone put you know flash Gordon is my third pick Well, that's one that is one with us One of my my partners favorite film and I was just gonna say before some really interrupted it Is I know for a fact I haven't seen it and I haven't seen it I know it's how you both have been quite I've never ever seen it before and I'm also gonna tell you right now he's both frozen on my screen So I'm sorry if I like kind of interrupt me I can't see he's talking anymore So I'm really sorry I have never ever seen flash Gordon Carolyn will kill me because I know it's one of her brothers favorite films as well Um, yeah, never never seen it never been interested in seeing it It has um recently being what you're talking about with a min guy is they have read rest of the films And they have put the certificate up on it because of that reason which um, I found quite interesting that We're doing that with a lot of Disney films now I think it's one of them on the start of dumbo peter pan has one now. I think you can't watch like it's like a different age Read on peter pan.

Yeah, it's not a lot of things I was trying to buy last night because that's gonna scream on it Yeah, maybe we could be with Taylor talking about this last night and I am so naive when it comes to this kind of thing Because I didn't I must have said on the other part of the past I can't believe they did it but peter pan And then when we kill a point, you know why I'm like, yeah, it's not it's not it's being It's like there are a lot of films where you're like well that was of its time Like that's how they talk about it. But what makes a red man read is just racist Then it was now it will risk it will always be racist. Yeah, I think the need to be the claim These bastards were slightly racist But it's not you don't even need it in the film book. No, I don't believe in that sense it like that but yeah, it is just pure That is like a big idea to be a like say do you change what went on to try and Things that's already happened.

I like the whole like as I said put in the disclaimer open saying look this was the book views back then We don't really know that's made it's better. There's a lot of films now. I watch especially from the eighties that made me uncomfortable I remember watching there recently 40 hours with Eddie Murphy and Nick Naughty and the language they use in that talk reach other It's not it's not pleasant listening but that was in a comedy film and it was And I think like say Eddie Murphy had a lot of see it with a lot of the dialogue that was used back then as well and It's still when you watch it now, they could never make a film and use the same type of like tones and languages and stuff like that Right, it's good one of brothers. Um, although we need to have the film And I'm telling appears being banned now.

You're not saying that you're in a The little sex best Are we ready to move on? Yeah, one last thing I just want to mention about Foreign as well the things that do jump out you when you watch it even if you just look at images of it is the colors You'll never see a more vibrant film. Yeah, like reds goals like like emerald greens used It felt a little bit like with the votes at times for the colors to use Um again. Yes, so that's my third pick So mine my third pick is from 2002 and I debated on putting this one in or the actual film and because this is a parody film And it was gonna put the actual film in but then was like no, I need to I'm gonna do this one It's called 29% on run tomorrow is directed by jaw gallon and if I said jenny's got a gun I Not another teen movie.

I absolutely love this film and I know a lot of people don't think it's ridiculous But it is so funny so funny and the songs that are hilarious Chris Evans is Beautiful in its past always and it was easy to give you film as well And I just really enjoyed the show. I was I'd this lot was tick I was gonna do she's all that because I'm really really loves she's all that and I know it's not a popular choice And but then I was like no, I'm gonna go with a parody film because it's it's too funny And I've replaced it on my actual list that I had because I took it off put it back on took it off And I had mermaids on and I've taken that off the table because that's not a guilty pleasure That is absolutely bad in film, but this is definitely a guilty pleasure is another teen movie. I have seen it It's not you know, what a terrible Well and like oh really but I feel watching Was this after scary movie or did it come before scary movie? Yeah, so what was this?

2002 was that one and scary movie was because wasn't that on one of my lists? Yeah, scary movie was 2000 Yeah, because I remember after scary like after one of these two because these are the two ones that set off the whole spoof I know the come before but like the big spooks of all the films came out after these ones because they were literally spoofing everything Uh, I see the scary movies running to how many versions was it five or six? I lost count. I lost count after two Like I literally I will only watch scary movie one or two because they are so funny, but I've never really done the other ones and but the cast in this is like he's got Chris Evans and I don't know how to see any of the shyly who's in Supergirl at the moment And I look like Shilah Shilah.

Yeah, Jimmy Presley and Mia Kushner who is in part monster And Lizzie she shared it who is the original voice of Meg and she's also in Mingos And Sam Huntington from fanboys and Oh, sorry, but she works at he which again. Why is that on this? And That's really it. Oh and Eric Jugman who you might not recognize the name But you if you see him, he has popped up in quite a lot of teen films before And so it was it seemed perfect for everybody in this but this just I just I could literally go and put it on right now and think nothing Oh, because I do really I don't and nor Michaela saying that it has not aged well.

The comedy is Valga Yeah, and really icky at times, but the first one interesting fact I have on this film was that the studio here That it's so much that the only way that they would allow it to go out was that if before they got Molly ring world in the last scene That's the only reason you get this film is because they have brought Molly ring world in that was the only way the studio would allow it to go out But it scores 29% on ronkavada was that it deserved every one of that 29 It's like it's turning it out with these films, but I think in it really over the top of the head could be completely wrong. It's that It's the do do that stuff in it. You know the do pull the ponytail off the glass of just beautiful Like there is a big it was doing the night is a big drop for all the different type of Like say rom-coms or the time it's like all this really ugly girl But also with the other side of high head type back and Glasses and it's like oh take the glasses now. It's amazing.

Yeah, that was always And the wrong type of message is that a lot of time. Yeah, definitely she's all that and the princess The woman and Hathawayan Yeah, they're all had the same kind of she girl intentions. Yeah, so yeah, that's my number three choice So we're gonna be killers fourth one now Yeah, fourth one. Sorry.

I've got a friend coming over and I haven't seen it in class March. It was like I've got to tell you I want some blanks And so this is It's a film that I don't know how some that you have it in your heart, but it's in my heart When I watch it, I get all like oh Again, it's about sisters. It's about friendship. It was made in 1980 it's about witches And it is practical magic.

I didn't put this on my list because I knew you were gonna get I get this film I get this for the more than I get frozen for the sister aspect totally. I am Mikaela such a good choice. I didn't put it on my list because I knew you were gonna. Yeah, I love it.

I am not saying that sorry There's not many watch It's like so for me, you know how like you're a vampire you're a zombie person you're a witch person I like um identified Like I have like the witch like I love a friend of Harry Potter and I know it's a bit different But um, I love like that witch the company thing and always have the the film in the film in a certain way Even like American Horror Story the film that in like the color tones of it the palettes of it the dress sensor And this is kind of like not original. Oh like I'm not saying like it's like made the made this genre Yeah, I think it's a big input into the genre and like Stevie next is the soundtrack is like he went much Of course Exactly. Um Sandra Bullock and Diane Lice and Nicole Kidman Nicole Kidman and one of the best things he was ever The soundtracks brilliant it looks good. Yes, I have a love story in it and it's about like curse women But again the essence of it that makes him go back all the time is that it's these women and like womanhood Yes, of course.

It's directed by a man Can't have it all Me and Julie and you missed off star card Shannon in there. She was she was in that film as well She wasn't there. She was because it was like sister sister wasn't it was all the sisters And then it was the young the middle ones and then it was her children one of them being Evan Rachel Wood Very young and racial voice. I'd please miss her.

I'm a ritual would it's a nice Camila something another actress Oh my god. I always thought the blanket was ever racial. What it could be a could be completely wrong Now when you said about the tones and the look of it because I remember I was like very earthy browns and earth colors that we use rather than the tickle blacks and goth With the craft But I was right it is younger blonde girl is Evan Rachel Wood So there you go It's just it's the modern day of which which isn't it's not having the old look and style of what you believe which is it's like modern Day, that's why I think for me covered I love coming in I love like a very hard story about love practical magic It's just it's set beautifully. I want to live where they live.

I don't think you want that I can actually if I live and Have that have that respect. Yeah that lovely feel to it. I get that I think I don't know why it doesn't get enough credit. Maybe it's just not a stop be, you know, like it's not that Romanticness, so then I don't know if it's like it's not like I get it's not like a classic But I think more people should see it of just like and I think Nicole Jimin's and really are great actresses And I think they are fully immersed in it.

No one's half-ass in it. Everyone's yeah Yeah, like and can I have everything Because it is quite big like in the horror community. It's still like and especially in Halloween It's like one of those ones that you'll see time and time again that people are watching it And it's like August August like it just it has a time of the year when people and definitely a community as well Like the horror community do do like practical magic, but it is probably just the aesthetic of it Not actually the film like just how it looks. Yeah, I hope it's was gonna be on this one I kind of hope it's not gonna be at all if anyone like doesn't like August not my friends Exactly So this one is very musical to the point where it is pretty much just about people singing 2012 I've had to one them ones that can watch all the time and it's not something that I've never get bored with and I love the songs and I love the mashups.

That's why I was giving away So it's pitch perfect 2012 I literally had this on when was it when the mattress on I was watching on Wednesday It is hilarious at times I can say the cast in it's brilliant like say the anacostromic as I can never buy her as the alternative girl that was Shitnet, but everyone in it has got the whole level aspects and I love them using it as well Even as cheesy as poppy as some of the songs and like say the end performance where I love it Refers club because you know how much I love the reference club. Yeah, and when the aspect was brought into it I was like salt not yeah, and it's the song that the treble that the guy's saying at the end and absolutely loves that version of it Because pitch perfect when it first came out and got as a copy of it and pretty much straight away And I watched it nearly every day for you. I absolutely love this film. The songs are amazing.

Um, who's the other Anna? Anna Camp Is that the blonde one? Yes, I think All Breece she was she's a little sick on as well with with the lead singer in it. Look at the guys She's the ex husband and wife now.

All right They got married very much shortly after the film and they are very much broken up now. He is a Broadway Completely talented as voice. Yeah, he's a Tony Award when a him is he's incredible But the all are and I love that Amy like I just think I think Rebel Wilson and this is brilliant I'm like say no, you can't call her family anymore should exist just absolutely just complete a new person A complete she looks amazing. She does look amazing, but I do like it.

Okay, I haven't even seen it I've seen it very much just like it Really? Yeah, can't stand it and I truly will never ever fight or been we'll get Rebel Wilson Really though I don't get it and I think like we think that's um No, I don't get it. I'm still trying to work out of that. I'm still trying to work out what happened in that film So I said what no.

Well, Michaela spent two weeks at my house last year and we were thinking of something to watch and Michaela's like great idea Let's watch cats. Oh really? Well, we never get in that time back basically. It's not even like it's not even like pulling watches No, we could we had no idea what was going on at all like non whatsoever.

Wow. That is a good pitch perfect I'm sorry Michaela. I would do like that one So move on to the Sunnis and make my next one Okay, so my next one is iconic in my eyes It's it's called 48 Cent of Runch models of it's on 1981. It is a bio film and it's directed by Frank Perry And if I was to say Barbara, please It is mommy dearest with a great theatre away a plant John Crawford This film is Unfucking real from start to finish.

It is one hell of a ride They've done away completely choose every bit of the scenery that she's in and to think that she thought this was a serious film Really makes it that much better. She generally thought this was gonna be this was her Oscar This was what she was going for when she did this film and it had some of the most iconic And free is this and especially the John Fucking me fellas. This ain't my first rodeo I just absolutely love it and I don't think my sister is actually saying it It is on I watched it the other night again for like a million's time and it is It's obviously like especially my killer because a list of Edwards played John Crawford in one of the best snatch games ever And or everything she sees is every cut for years. Oh, like you hear from that film and it's just it's so good But they did generally think that this was a a proper serious Biopic I would completely argue with yeah, um like the one when I watch your um comedy one and that last that he said man And the moon was a comedy and I went is it Is it I would like of course a guilty pleasure is a per interpretation.

I would say it's a so bad it's good from an a guilty pleasure Yeah I think correct. So any phone you get a tinge just think national really like this. I think that would Well, this is what I feel my dear is because it is but again You may be right because it does have that camp cult feel to it now Like it's getting the following and that's probably gonna be the same with me last pick as well It wasn't great when it came out. It but it's built the following up through the chat through the years because of how pop culture is Is changed it I hurt and interpret it.

So this is why I hated this list. Yes You could do you ruined your store by it's good and you ruined cool Feeling Yeah It's based on the book by christina profit. She basically came out. She said she started writing this before john died I don't think she did she got cut.

She is the adopted daughter of john crawfish And she was cut out of our will for reasons that are known to christina And and christina brought a book out about how my mom was an absolute tyrant and you know This glamorous hollywood icon that everyone saw her She was a mad crazy woman who would go into the rose bush garden in the middle of the night and start chopping up the roses and frigging Come down trees and kicking off because of why your tang is and it's caused it It's given a lot of shit over the years and she's had to rewrite the book at least three times since it's being published in her eyes As bits that she's remembered. She's basically it's a it's a that's what she got from the will It's a she got to use our mom's name to to to bring these books out and give our money that was it was Jocelyn state was not big it was in in what you would expect Last will was just over a million. That was it. Yeah, didn't have the great deal money Cool.

Yeah, let me do this My check it out to another book so moving on to it is elastic so see how I know you've had like a hard time. Yeah, I have like a little 20 I'm gonna give you some of me me short this I got cut out first so space jam was one of them All right, that's based jam rat race was one of them. No, nothing's in our battle Yeah gremlins too, which I watched for the first time ever in my life and I I Loved it but I picked a film that is um part of a genre in the night ease of Disaster films I'm sure someone will say this one is the shittest one. I partner would definitely say this is the shittest one And it was made in 1996 with Helen Hunt and Bill Paxman and that is This is where it's difficult because what some people of class is crap or snoze Absolutely love that I love that you know, I love Tristan I thought you're gonna have a new one you know, you know, my heart lies when it comes to Tristan I see I can't see how it's any type of good because it was an action film.

It's one of the best ones out there like see it's much better than I'm again. It's much better than I let them let's break it down a bit though. It's about scientists. It's about weather, right?

It's about um a tornado. I didn't go to that house didn't go to that house. We're hit her house and she has a personal vendetta against the bleeding tornado It's That tornado thought I went How many times have we done that though we're killing the experience and what's the best part the video footage we've been passing at the beginning? Hey, I'm Bill Kexen again like The reason these films work and the reason why like is that they people commit to them like they are Bill paxen instead of a bitch like You know, and it's just a great film and I like all like The name like all of okay, and what I've never seen him I've seen them but I've seen them like recently like Stephen's been educated Um, but um like I'm gonna get in them same like Oh my god.

I went through I went through a fears in my list teens probably early 20s of watching that all the colors obsessed with an I was probably the first year of college. I mean my friend used to watch it continuously all the time It is terrible now. I couldn't watch it now I think probably for me too is as I said before I got brought one Disney. I am a sheltered bippy, right?

I didn't watch like um You know my partner got brought up on term. They're like when he was like, okay. Yeah, he looks all that stuff And I'm just like Oh I don't like horror films. I have that I kind of still have that thing of like it's real I can't get like the The construction of it's a movie out.

I think twist is quite a nice way of going into it And Helen is beautiful in that film as well. I don't know why I think she's absolutely Me and Makayla have a very different upbringing when it comes to movies because mikayla is Was a very sheltered little child whereas I I was in my friend's house and watched the most obscure horror movies for when mikayla didn't quite do that I do remember being young having to watch me sister We killed probably won't remember it, but I had to watch me sister and we were at my friend Nikki's house And we had no we had Freddy Krueger on the mikayla got introduced by a crueger And I have it seriously have a thing with myself and like can I let her watch this? We have to share a bedroom like I'm not being responsible for her nightmares Really young at the time. I was like, I'm gonna have to take you all my this is not good So yeah, I remember having to walk you away from from Freddie for that because couldn't have you Delicatte values taken that one in I watched these people and all the parents dying them I'll break them in the Disney home.

Oh, yes Good thing I love to put out post on the fiercer group only this week because I'd say I love that film So it's like seven Japanese step, but yes, so I'll move on to my last one. Yep So I left this to last and I should be wearing lipstick for this one to be honest. Um, it's from 1975 again It's got every aspect of anything that I love in a film. It's got music.

It's got sci-fi. It's got a little bit of horror It's got a bit of a transvestite in there So it's uh, the roti horror picture show which I watched this when I was far too young And I didn't know what the film is about. I just thought these are the really catchy songs Um, yeah, I see a Tim Curry and Tastes just confuses now, which I'm not gonna lie Uh, but uh, I can remember my Andy watching it from saying not I tell your parents you watch this I have that I need to look at those two And I remember walking to school with me mum the next day I got singing I'm a sweet transvestite to the horror of my mum and Just everything about this film just oozes Cheese and Sleeze as well. I would say it's a little bit.

It's very sleazy, but it's absolutely brilliant and even the stage while I love now Even making makes it a co-participation and stuff but I can still watch this and sing along even what listen to soundtrack each song I hop into it You still want to be favorite songs of all time with me more from it But makes it I had the biggest cross on the gender as well. I'm going to see that lady twice this year So I will be seeing her in york in august and I will be seeing her in october in manchester But it's just queen. I absolutely adore that woman. Um, I have that auntie and uncle who introduced me to Robbie horror Nanny show me and jolly nble Charles They introduced me to Robbie horrid a very young age my parents will find with it because they were fans of it I didn't get it.

I didn't know I was watching I've seen the stage show quite a few times I've seen them with my friends, but my aunt Ian will use to take me to go and see this I remember them leaving and A cousin's wedding to take me to go and see it was Ian's wedding who moved Australia They left and they left his wedding to take me to go and see brought me power at the empire I just I love this film. It's so good and I can't wait to make the cast enough for about no Patricia Quinn's I said she's doing a separate thing in August but I can't wait to make the cast I'm just Really? Yes very much I came up in 1975 so it is probably one of the old ones on my list But yeah, it just brings back even though it's can't be sci-fi fun It's not a bit of horror in there as well, but it's just fun. It's and it's yeah Kind of help I can't get it up in it like Cannibalism in it as well, but in a way that you don't even realize the race But I'm like say the the screen thing Janet and Brad Even like say Susan surrounding you don't expect the cast is in it As good as it is and Richard O'Brien is Exhiv is top notch as like the country was and I was riffraff Yeah, like as soon as you hear that beat when it starts like time is fleeting You know what's gonna be an experience and the way you think is as well any kid's party you went to as a child Which again you were dancing about gone well, this is a fun song but really it was quite a section Pretty much so very much so I do like Probably could talk about it for a very very long time because it's so good.

I don't know about me I've seen it many many I didn't get really grow up and it like sounded but yeah, I know I have a musical Playlist on my Spotify in this many minutes over there So one day under Sam's final pick now, okay, so this now I'm thinking about it This is probably falling under the cult then it was then then goodly pleasure It's from 2009 to score 45% of ronk tomorrow is it was it bombed It absolutely bombed and it's only been in the last year that is actually getting a resurgence and people are like It's really good, but I've been on board from the very beginning So I'm like one of these who I wouldn't necessarily admit that I loved it I used to have the main actresses poster on my wallet home. It's directed by Daeo Daeo Blokori It's starring Meg Box and Amanda Seafield. It's Jennifer's body And this is literally in the last year It is how the resurgence like people are on this film and that's I think that's where the cult Yeah, it's just coming on it. Um, it's how it really reminds a lot of Heathers And I think that's why I loved it because it's got that teen talk that you don't necessarily hear would could understand this I have never seen Jennifer's bodies.

I watched Heather for the first time. I think about two weeks ago and I didn't get it I think this was a big time. I think Heather's was Heather's is a very good result It is very much so No, I just I can't believe me in her related sometimes. I mean you didn't get Heather's I didn't get it at all I was like what what it's that thing again man where it's like I'm like and I love him and I'm like Uh, I just didn't get it.

It's very right. Are you killing them? Yeah, it's a very American high school That's the thing I think if you weren't brought up like the shows and the type of tv films where you watch You might not get the understand of Heathers which I'm doing really to but going back to Jennifer's body The only thing that again, that's a blossom Bullet but the only thing I did feel a little bit uncomfortable with was the film's Martin was purely about Megan Fox and even when the Blu-ray come out The tin that came out with it had Megan Fox's body shape that popped out Who's popped out of the case? It has a really good customer like jk Simmons and it he was in June about so I wouldn't expect him to be in another day I'll go according Amy to deck it's a day of his sitarist isn't it and and Brody who I am totally following up with at the moment watched and Ready or not the other night and totally following the back guy Really good and it had a very young Chris Pratt in it.

He's only in it for a brief time And I think he actually dies in the fire but it's the way that they We've established this this one is all about what Casa Ross spoilers and but no I love the talk. I love the way the ad look. Oh, he makes these teenagers talk Which is very much why I love June all four and it did give us a head of ice because you don't you don't hear people in of that age Talk the way that they did. Um, I just I love it I don't particularly like a man to see field in it I'm not particularly a big fan of hers to start with they could have cast anyone else's needy and I would have been all right with it But I really really enjoyed the shit out of Megan Fox so Jennifer check is just An iconic character who doesn't get the recognition thing deserved I think Megan Fox is gonna there's like a bit of a you know, like you look back on some sort of a lot of actors and actors And I honestly think you're gonna look back at people like Johnny Depp will go over it Now Sam knows me Depp and ever was yeah, and I think you look back and you go in that lead with them and you go catchy was good And then I think with Megan Fox it's gonna be like What you've just said there?

Yeah, so these actual eyes that no one ever was no take a seriously. Yeah, ever not at all Again I'd say that the case what she is gonna be judged for looks rather than ark and Billy Which is a shame because I just said she is good enough film she is quite menacing and And as Another reason she kicked off in transformers because she was being too over sexualized Issues with because it kept on trying to film Arshots and stuff like every picture was heard in over us only that so it should hurt him had a massive fault now because of it But yeah, I don't blame it. I really like it as a person as an actress Jennifer check is brilliant and I would tell anyone just go and rewatch it again. It is so good It's it's got it's got the horror element in it.

It's got the friendship in doing it It's got I don't even know how to describe it because it's just a demonic creature like I don't know how else to describe it. I'd felt like the craft but don't cheesy if that makes sense Like because it's a there's tons in the craft that it takes itself very serious But this it doesn't it knows what it's trying to do even the whole demonic the band trying to do the whole And like sacrifice to live in come big was Yeah, the band was called law shoulder and the song that they bring out always reminds us But killing from that in excess program used to watching them body brought that's on our trees It reminds us so much of that song it has that same like that same rhythm to it That's my my number last my number last choice my number last choice is Jennifer's body Cool good choices. Thanks. Yeah, that has been the probably the biggest pain in the arse topic that we've done today.

So But let's see. Have you enjoyed yourself? Okay, have you ever got a phone? I love I love talking about maybe it's like one of my favorite things ever to do I love arguing.
