So hey everyone and welcome to Nelly of North Podcasts, the Nelly Podcasts hosted by two Northern nerds and one of your hosts Sam. And I'm the other host Paul. And we are back with the top five and this week's top five is... Top five computer games.
So your favourite computer games that you've played or enjoyed throughout your life? Yeah, yeah. This one was pretty easy to write down, not gonna lie. And you're gonna...
Honestly, my list is very the same in respect to gameplay. I don't really venture up with the bottom two. But I do play games, I do have consoles, I do have a game in DC. I'm just not as hardcore as my husband is.
Oh, I used to be a lot more into games when I was younger. Like I said, I've had a wee console going from a Sega Master System to a Super Nintendo to a Mega Drive. Then moved on to the Playstation, I'd friends who I'd dreamcast. So yeah, it's been a wide spectrum growing up.
Some amazing games I've played. Some probably not mentioned because I can't really discuss that much because I probably played them years ago and they don't really mean anything. But the ones I've picked are a bit of feeling towards. And I've always got stories behind as well.
Yeah, yeah, yeah. This is exactly the reason why I picked what I picked. I've been a gamer since I've been a kid. I was probably the first one on the street to have a Sega Mega Drive.
I was the coolest kid, Black Christmas. Playing Mega Drive had some really fun memories. I made my dad used to play quite a lot together. I always remember the week I had I was still with an ear ache.
And all my dad took us to the Doctors on Monday morning. I was like, we told her to see off for a week. Great stuff. Me and me dad just on Mega Drive every day.
It was just so much fun. And I think I had a spectrum before that. I think I can never remember. I think I was a spectrum.
I mean, very first one. One back was an Amstrad 64. Which one was the one with the Black keyboard with the red and green keys? I think I was an Amstrad then.
I think I was a S. It was three around the same time I came out. I think the Amstrad, I turned it down. Was the cheaper version.
I was like with XMI. I was like, when the computers came out, the was extortion of prizes. Oh, God, yeah. And they came with the TFB built in and a great part of it.
That's it. That's the one I had. I always remember that. But I was one of the Commodore 64.
That was always the one with the floppy drive as well. But I got a lot more. Well, then it's kind of like me just after that. I was not, I was an outdoorsy person.
So video games like that. I didn't progress forward with them. It's just a PlayStation, PlayStation 1. I don't know what you have to play, PlayStation 2.
And then I got into the GameCube. I've been randomly bought a GameCube and started playing the Resident Evil games. Surprisingly, not on by this today. But I did start playing the Resident Evil games.
And then 2014 hit and got this is where it started. And then I'll go into it. So this week is top five video games. Are you ready?
So do you want to talk about that? That's how you're ready. So I'm not starting. I think I started that.
I got your both hands. Okay. So 2014 is when I had a really, really bad time, really bad year. And it was right at the beginning of the year.
And I needed a distraction. And I didn't have anything at the time. I wasn't in the comic book. So you know, the only thing I had, I think I wrote a whole article about this.
The only thing I had was music. And that's pretty dull when you need it off your pie yourself. And I will always remember just one random night, put an Xbox 360 on and started playing. This isn't on my list, but I started playing GTA.
And the first time in forever, my head was just cleared. Like, cleared. All I thought about was that game. I didn't think of anything else that was going on in my head.
And it is a game. And I'll see it now. Game is one of the best mental health things that you can do for yourself. Because it just takes you out of your own stuff for a bit and gets you to concentrate on something else.
And it really can give you a head of proper clear out. But my best choice is around this time, it was probably the second game I played. And after one of the other picks that I picked, and I'm not going to give that one yet, possibly would get quite emotional over that thing as well. It's from 2013, it is from Crystal Dynamics, and it is a reboot of the original.
And I put a reboot of a new image, and it's the third person player. It is the 2013 Tomb Raider. I don't talk here. This franchise means so much to us.
Not the earlier Lara Croft, not the typical green top shorts, not that Lara Croft, this Lara Croft. From 2013. But this one was like a reboot. There's been a six-second one since the Tomb of the...
The third one from the big three so far. The third one not being like, I don't think it's a full gameplay. I haven't actually played it. And but the first two are absolutely phenomenal.
Graphic wise, it is stunning. They absolutely stunning. And even just like, I got up at the 360, even on the 360, the Xbox 360, it was still beautiful to look at. And then I'm getting the remastered one for the PlayStation 4.
It's not much difference for me. But this is the type of game I like. You will see a lot of this flutter on my list. I'm a third person player.
I cannot do first person. I have this thing with me eyes. I don't do fast movement. So I can't take a lot in.
I go very dizzy very quickly. I can't even look at the answers a lot of first person. And I cannot look at the screen for too long without feeling like I'm going to throw up. I just can't do fast movement.
So this is perfect here. It's in perfect tempo of horrors. And it's just... I haven't even seen the film.
Which one? The Angelic Dolly or the reboot? I'm not seeing Angelic Dolly one. But I've never seen the reboot one either because I am so worried it's going to take us away from how I felt when I played this.
No, I remember when this came out. Because as you said, Laura Croft at the time was revolutionary for a lot of different things. It was like first thing out. And this is basically when Laura Croft ended the next gen.
The dinner right, that's the thing. Graphically, I just said it was beautiful. The game cleared flawed. And I remember when I played it, I didn't play the sequels too much.
I'll say when it comes to games, I don't get much time to play it. So it's hard for me just to invest a bit of time in a game these days. I'm always pick up like Fortnite these days and have a bit of blast in what way. But this one, I got engrossed.
The story was decent. I see you went over in the world. I like the little details and stuff that they didn't normally do in games. Like holding a candle or a torch on this water.
And you accidentally don't get into one of the doors. It goes out and you've got to re-light it. That little little things kind of... The attention to detail, it emerges it into where you're at.
The look of her, the sound of her. She's not, for all our accents, sounds very full on for an English accent. It does knock it on, you know. The story is fantastic.
I'm actually playing it right now. This is what I do. Between it, there's a few on me list which I can do this with and this is one of them. I literally will have a moment of I need to feel how I did back then.
This is what I'm going to do to do that. There's comic books I do with, there's video games and there's movies I do with. That's what you're going to do with movies. I'll be with this last year.
I've went back to the back of catalogue and watched films. I've not seen videos just to feel like all the stars. I didn't try and get back. Like, feeling back.
So I totally get that. So I totally understand where you're coming from. It's the feeling that you're had when I played it in the sense of achievement. Because at the time I was...
It's ridiculous. But when you can't play a computer game, there's no better feeling at times than it just... When I finish a video game, I get this sense of this little thrill that I believe I've just done that. And I'm very notorious for shouting for Ant.
Very notorious. Shout-in for my husband because there's a certain part I can't do. I can't do that. What's one of them?
Oh, evil within. It's not on my list, but evil within. I remember playing, I never played it. And I remember losing my mind over one bit.
Like literally screaming because I couldn't do it. And he had to come in and do it. And I didn't finish that game because he did a section for it. But with Tomb Raider, not one bit of hell.
I did it all by myself. I'm not the fastest when it comes to shooting either. And my aim is always... I'm not...
Honestly, if anyone sat and watched this game, it was a hardcore gamer. He would be appalled with my gameplay. It was a atrocious... I don't want to get you on a swim and channel at the back service.
Not at all. I'd be too embarrassed. I would have these people like... Because I'm still one of these people who have to look down at the controller to see what the buttons are.
And it's so bad because I will play station 4 controller, I've got a PS5 and we've got a PlayStation 4. The PlayStation 4 was in the bedroom with me and the controller was done. So I don't know if you know this, but controllers right now are very hard to get a hold of because of the components made in them. And very hard to get to the Corvish.
They're not being made fast enough. So controllers are so expensive. And I am not paying. But in fact that we've just bought a brand new PlayStation 5, I'm not paying any 60 quid for a PlayStation 4 controller.
So I bought just a very cheap one. But the buttons on the buttons on me control me, but they are the colours. So I still have to look down and remember which ones were making. Oh, that's ridiculous.
Man, how much? Say this is how bad I am. That's my top pick is Tomb Raider. Good pick, good pick.
So I wasn't going to pick this one next, but I think it fits in quite nicely. So this one was released in 1996. Wow. It was for the PlayStation 1.
And then this blew my mind when I first played. And before this, I think it was side school and all the 3D games that I couldn't handle 64. When I was the first game I did, I did the 3D one. Well, but this one, it emerged in the world.
And it suits quite nicely with the one you've picked. It's the original Lara Croft, the first ever Tomb Raider. Wow. Okay.
So is this the one where you had to do an obstacle course at the beginning? Yes. Oh my God. That's all I played.
It was just, I just did the obstacle course. Me, her die. And that was another thing on Tomb Raider, the deaths. Yes.
When she dies. Oh my God. They are gruesome. But yeah, I used to make a round and then that was actually, I don't ever play the game.
Yeah. So like I said, with the starting points, even start from the end of the game, you had to learn. Because you know what I mean? And again, like this before, like the puzzles in it was unbelievably hard.
The one just, like say, pull this here, move this. It was like, you had to physically work things out. There was things where if you didn't jump exactly at the point where you needed to jump, you would not make the jump and you would die. And you just get respawned and redoing it over and over again.
You just got attacked by a couple of tigers. Oh, the one I'm playing right now, just battle the bear. Right. A bear with a bow and arrow.
That's all you've got. And I remember this, like one of the levels, it was the most difficult level that I must have played. And normally, like I said, I'm not the most with yourself. I'm not the best game.
And games do take a little bit of time to play to complete. I'm not one of these, like pick it up and complete it all in one way again. But I must have spent a couple of weeks on this one level. It was a Venice level where you had to get a bow to do a jump at certain points.
You had to work out to go in one building and jump across to the other building, work out how to do it through the window. But again, everything was so intricate and well placed. If you missed it by a point, then you would have to go back to the start and start it all again. It was a bit died and it started from basically think it was like, you had to do that.
Everything again, it was the most frustrating and this game as well, like as a teenage boy was the most had the most hilarious room into it as well. That there was a cheap code that ended in the right way, law across craft and a strip. So again, it was all bullshit. It was just a joke.
It was a joke. It was a joke. Just put out there. But I guarantee any large my age, my age that was in quite inclined that way, did that cheat about 15 times to try and see if it can get it to work.
I never thought it would work. Oh my god, because that was the thing, wasn't it? That you had a certain like code thing, but I always remember being given the cheat codes for SmackDown on the PlayStation. Yeah, definitely.
Like finishing moves up straight on. Yeah. But yeah, like I still remember trying to do it as a kid one. I want to say this pixelate law across with the triangle loops to do a strip.
Because she had the weirdest body shape. Like, I'm really glad that they've kind of changed how she looks now. She looks very normal. Very pretty, very normal.
Doesn't count as those triangle moves. But again, a lot of games back then was like punch, kick, shoot. This was, you had to run dodge and roll. Deep dive.
Yeah, deep dive. Like say this is going on dodge one. Deep dive. Deep dive.
But yeah, it wasn't simple movements. It made it like, it was the first time I got the PlayStation controller. You pretty much, I use all the buttons, like the four on the top and anything. Oh yeah, yeah.
Yeah, that makes it great. Memories like with two or maybe the first one was the way. I know there's been better games since. But to me, that's changed how a few games have played games for a long time.
It's got to be low because you are right. It's like everything was like a platform. Like, just think about what was out at the time. And I'm only taking my sister's games that she had, Crash Bandicoot, Rayman, Spyro the Dragon, very platforming.
Like, collect a ring or something like that. There's no thought in it. It's just mindless point and jump. Yeah.
But with that, I get it. Like, this dodge process and probably the first time in the first time in the world, I'm the wrong. I don't really know the history of human. Because it was probably correct.
I know, but for us, it was probably other games out there. But that was me. That person I think, John, who went right. This is different to what I've experienced before.
Yeah, totally. You ready to move on? Yeah. Right.
We'll stick with the team. My number two pick. This is very similar. If not the same idea as Tomb Raider.
It's from 2009 from Naughty Dog. And it had the most fantastic voice actor ever with Nolan North. It is uncharted to among thieves. Love the uncharted.
See that the thing is with my picks, I could, apart from one, that's I could pick anyone from within the franchise and be happy with that pick. But I always uncharted to always stuff out for us because it has a better story. I love Nolan North. And if anyone, eh?
Be excited for the film. I don't know. I don't know. I don't know because it's Tom Holland, doesn't it?
Yeah, I'll watch Tom Holland. I think that's what's in the book. Oh, yeah. It doesn't have, if Nolan North has nothing to do with the film, I don't know if I'm going to be that interested.
I'll still watch it, obviously. But if you want to see Nolan North play one of the best characters outside of Nathan Drake. Watch Conman with Alan Turdick. He is in that and it is one of the funniest roles he has probably played.
It is hilarious. I love him. Love the man. And he's just, he's one of these people who's very loyal to the franchise as well.
Like it's not just a job for him. It's not just money. It means something to him. And it definitely shows what he's voice actor.
I just, I love the franchise and a whole one of them. I'm halfway through the best one again. I can leave the game. I can just pick up, start, put down, hold on to another one pick.
And Uncharted is one of them. But I just, I love Uncharted too. I love being Uncharted. I've never been.
I can't think it came out the time when the whole PlayStation Xbox was came on. I'm with the PlayStation Xbox. I know I've got PlayStation 4 now, but I was always an Xbox One person. So I can't.
You can see, up until the PlayStation 3, so were we. We had the 3, we had two, 3, 6, I had one. He had one. Because I'm not one of these people who can, like, I want me on space.
I want me on storage, which is what I wanted me on Xbox. I just got the little bit of it. I'm a little bit of it. Walter Darrin, I like having me on things.
The part where I'm switching, we share the switch. But I'm not more than here. Because I hope, in the game I didn't add to the list, I play a lot of Animal Crossing. It's got to come out here.
His sister-in-law, Laura, she loves Animal Crossing, she's always on it with her, thanks to her sister, Xenolian and Charlotte, which, yeah, it's not the top. Yeah, it got us through last year. I literally jumped on the hype. I've never heard of it before.
It came out, it sold out and it says, oh, that would have been really fun. I'm like, I'm like bored at the minute and I'd be classed to build her on Island. She was like, just buy it on Nintendo's store. I can do that and I got it straight away.
So, and then I did a whole year of building. So then the beginning of the year, deleted it all and started again. But I managed to roll friends in. I've got Carolins got one.
I got Carolins got the game. My friend, Amy, as well managed to actually get Amy to buy Air Switch to play Animal Crossing. But yeah, go back to Uncharted. There's one of them that I can really say.
It's another, puzzle-y adventure always looking for something very Indiana Jonesy. It's a lot of fun and it makes you think and it gives you a decent story at the same time. It's in the cutscenes and not that long. I think I've been saying about games.
Yeah, when it came out, I think the Uncharted one is quite old game now. It was... You couldn't tell them, I've played it recently and you cannot tell how it is. No, not this and that way.
We have games that came out that were almost like movies, if that makes sense. Yeah. So it makes sense that I just said, like the actor, when it started in game and seriously, like back before, it was just a joke. No one really said you had the Mario as a sonics, then got a little bit better.
But when it started in game and as an actual serious friend and like, so some serious actors got involved, like some games really are better than movies, have times of some movies that you see. Could have definitely agreed with that statement. Might have been with a completely agree with that statement. And he absolutely, he adored and the Witcher 3, played that last year and he was like, he was just shocked that he had no expectation of it whatsoever.
But by the end of it, he was devastated, it was finished. Yeah. And they do have such a movie quality to them now, but the noise that pans out of me will cut things as how long they can be. And in the Uncharted ones, the not the don't take over the game.
Cool. That's my second pick. So I'm going to put a little bit more old school with this one. It was on the Sega Mega Drive.
And after that, it's been on other consoles since then, and there's been numerous, numerous sequels and still getting made to do it. Was the original fine game that I loved was Mortal Kombat. Mortal Kombat! Yeah.
From 1992, which I was starting with, it was all there, but I was starting to need these game, but when you realize the point of came out, now this was another fine game that was coming out before, like Street Fighter was around the same time, but Mortal Kombat blew, because I never played on it, my house, my mum and dad wouldn't buy it, because it was the first game that was going to be in England. Wow. I can remember, I'll play it around in cousins and... I would do.
I mean, you played it originally. If when I think I'm a week off, so after the original game, the game was master in magazine came out with the cheat codes, that turned Mortal Kombat into the best thing you'll ever see, because when you originally played, it's gotten all blood. That's how it got passed the senses, but when you put the gene in it turned the blood on, and oh my god, there's actually no change. Now, there's only a few characters in it originally, but as a fine game, it is the most basic punch game jump.
I think it coined the phrase for one move, because all you used to do was trip the opponent over so many times, and if you got in the right place, they couldn't even hit you back. So it drove in the book. But the reason I love this game so much, one civil word, fatality. But what's finishing that?
Finishing was when it seemed, but the fatality came afterwards. Now, you had to learn these moves, because there was a number of pushing competitions and they had to be in the exact place, and you had to do it in the super quick time. So again, you're talking about a five second window to do this finishing move, and each character had the one finishing move. So I wasn't involved about completing the game, but going through the fights, I just wanted to play as each character, and work out and complete the finishing move.
And again, you said it in the first game, there was something of an accomplishment and a failing when you completed the game. When you performed a fear telly, it probably did actually something, and I think, actually, because of the other, sorry, because he brought it all in, he got like an arcade machine, he's got the bot and he's shit. And it's got like one of us we've had built in with all the old DM's on, so it got all come back up and it has to be a drill. A lot of those here, but there's still one position to do, of how you remember to do.
It was a little can, so you held block, and then you spiral round the joystick, and it kind of does a cartwheel and punches you up in the air, and it kind of depends on what level you want, you felt the adept in spikes, or you just felt the defnose blood, so it goes fatality, but when you saw that word fear telly on the screen, honestly, it was a no better film than you actually performed. We've done it. We're not, we're not more combatting people in this house, and not a few years ago, and went through a massive pre-as of Street Fighter V. So it was a good one, the opposite side.
Yeah, to the point where it was, it was almost obsession, and we've got a game stick, it was constant that you would watch people on Twitch, who played it, so it was constantly on the telly, and he's got a book, massive, it's a huge file book, of all the characters, all the moves, all the, all the, all the, oh my god, it was borderline obsession, and the model combat, I always thought was the more interesting one, because of the death scenes, like they were, they were gruesome, and that was like, so much so. And I thought, like, as you went on, got like the mark, two, three, then I think, I think I'm not going to know, so coming out, they got like more brutal, and I see how it's changed, I think they got like, friendships, in says, maybe a friendship for the hell, at least, since the battle, basically, I'll be scared, which sounds a bit wrong, but yeah, you turn into an animal and kill them, but yeah, there was a lot of changes, but I've probably not talked about straight fight, I want to add to that, in the Fiesburg group, Ian, he used to work in the borough, and on a certain night, he saw like, game competitions like, FIFA Night, or Straight Fighter Night, and he kind of, I've never seen anyone as good, Straight Fighter as Ian, could not touch me, like say he was on people, she had a good game with me, so we'll not leave it there, though. That's another one, that's been almost grounded, for me, and I can hear 20 players that, I've never said, the amount of control is here for, two to the game, and the one time, when this was the last time he ever did it, is when he threw the controller off the floor, and it bounced and hit me off the chest, and he's never done it since. Speaking of the one, I want to get him on here, he needs to come on as a guest at some point, I'm seeing it now, so if he does listen, I'm going to pressure him into getting on.
He's a Skylar. I wouldn't really, I just think it'd be a very loud laugh, but that's a good choice, very good choice, I do like that one, right, and where am I at, where am I at? So it's one I want to keep to last, because I think that's a really good talk, and I think we'll be a lot set about it, so I'm going to go away, I'm going to go with the one that, this is the one I was telling you about, where I don't think anyone would think I would pick this, because I'm a very third person platform game person, and this is a third person shooter, it's from 2008, from Epic Games, it has one of the best assault rifles going, GAs of 42, I am a massive fan of the GAs of War franchise, this was the game that really started my 2014 year after I played GAs 5, and needed something else, and gave us GAs of War 1, and it was so hard, like ridiculously hard, and even had to come in and finish the end for us, because it was that hard, but it says GAs of War 2 isn't this brutal, then you might enjoy it, and I remember going to Dontan Park, finding it for a 5, but they used to have a CD shot, I found it for a 5, for a pre-owned box, and bought it, and just lost myself in that world, and haven't played it, because we're not here, we don't have an Xbox in the house anymore, and I'm not really wanting to play in that type of game on the PC, and having played GAs of War 5, but I have played the rest of them, but all of my eyes have GAs of War 3, when we lost Dominic, I was out, but Marcus is just the most badass person I've ever played in the video, and I love that man. The chain gun is one of my favourite guns, the power of the lego lancer, the lancer with the rifle, but the chain gun, when I got that, there was just no start on this, I was just honored, even used to play this live, and with other people, I used to go on Xbox Live and play with other people in lego groups, I just used to annihilate anything, I have no tactics, I'm no good at stealth, so I just go for it, I really do leave right down the search, right down the middle.
I think I worked well with this game though, so yeah. You don't need any tactics, just won't kill. It was quite linear in the way you had to go through it, so I'm funny enough. Again, I know this is your third pick, my other pick, I was going to mention next, isn't GAs War 2, it's the first GAs of War, for the Xbox.
Oh really? Yeah, so... Oh, the most I've got, I'm going to join one thing. I'll vote both together.
With this, I remember it because it was the launch title for Xbox 360, it was... It was... You even got a specialised X-Box 360 case in Paris. The reason I was wondered so badly is the job and I worked as a graphic designer, the book who run it, he bought himself an Xbox, and while we were working doing the design work, he would sit in play on Gears of War, and we would watch him on it, and this was on actual release here, so this is where Xbox 360 came out, and the prices were like stupidly high, so we had a good time to go out, actually got the own copy.
But as I said, the story-wise, really interesting characters, Marcus Phoenix, as you said, to go through the sequels, gets more injuries back story. But it's... Isn't it Gears of War 4, where Marcus isn't even in it? I didn't go past three, to be honest, because I didn't want to be as like, Gears of War, renovation or renovation.
I'm sure there's one way Marcus isn't even in it, now it's like, well, I'm not interested. If Marcus isn't in it, I'm not interested, because he has absolute heart of that whole game franchise. I don't know why they haven't made a film of this yet, because the characters are perfect. I think that happens, because I don't know if I'd be ready for that, like, I don't know, and obviously, I should, if I want to play games about what I'm just going on the computer and do it, but I don't, I like the console.
I like the car. I like the car. You can get controllers now. Yeah, I'm got a 361 in there, in his computer room.
Everybody, I just don't know. Something about this is a game. I don't want to play a video game sitting in my computer chair, because I'm sitting at enough at work. I like the idea of either being on the couch or being in my bedroom, probably the main place, because I spend the majority of my time in there.
But yeah, I mean, I just, I like sitting in bed or sitting on the couch and playing and something about me, that I'm probably going to contradict myself here, because I do like playing League of Legends on my computer. And I can lose hours on League of Legends on my computer, but something about it, but that is, it's not a, for me, that's not a, that's not a, that's not a, it's not a, it's just not like, not a game that I need to like, sit and chill and go to. You want to be sitting chill back, not 100%. And like I said, with the wens and that, it was like, revolution, I can say with the lancer, and then like, the chain, like the chain saw element when you got close and done a bit of action with that, and then you can stomp on people's heads.
And like, everything kind of like, you could attach like, grenades on people and run away and watch them trying to run away from the grenade that's on the back. When you get that chains or gun or that chain, they've this game over, like, I don't want to understand the chance. So yeah, I'm trying to remember the name of this body, you'll probably know it, because the games are scary, like, not on the other side of the hill, there's Resident Evil that have truly terrifying elements towards, but the level on gears of the wall, where that Shriga thing, is it a reaper it's called? Oh, it's, When you can't physically shoot it, you've got to hide, I can't see it, but I can hear you.
So you're in, like, I see a church, and you're trying to get to run at you and your own gadgets and hit things, and the whole point of the level is to get it outside before you get the hammer of God on it. It was not the hammer of God, I don't want to have it on God, where it was, like, I set the satellite on it, and that was the only way to kill this beast. I know exactly what you're running about. I was trying to look for a bit of the name of it, to say this is when I am 40 pounds, because I'm no good at stealthy things at all.
Like, for some reason, my thumbs like the move a lot, even if I don't need them to. So my thumbs would be doing this all the time, so my character, like, I need to learn to stay still. Yeah. It's ridiculous.
I'm the worst. I really am. I'm not trying to pretend to be anything that I'm not, because I really know what I am as a gamer. I'm really pathetic.
I'm like, on the late one, I brought out the horde mode as well, where you just basically camped in a zone, and it got, like, rounds and rounds of the different bodies, or the different, like, the amount of bodies I kind of just to see how many rounds you could survive. That was always entertaining with games as well, but again, and, I'm not the greatest first person shooter, just because I like to see where I'm torn and stuff, but the elements of this, again, not like a movie. It felt like you were going through the motions, you know, without like, you've, and the characters were that well crafted and that done. You'll give a shit about Marcus, and she'll give a shit about Dom.
So, I'm totally glad. I remember when it happened, and I was going, no, no, and I said, oh my god, no. That's like running, it was like, what's the matter of good job to take that? But, one of the only thing negative, I'll probably say about gay is a war, is it's probably the same with any computer game.
It gets quite repetitive as you're going on, the bodies, like the bosses, it's hard to change it up too much, but it's still entertaining. It's not many games I would go back to, but I also got all of them saved on the Xbox One now. See, this is that, that would be the only reason I would buy an Xbox One, and I cannot justify the money for it, but just for the fact I want to play a game of all, because we, they mean, very much our PlayStation people, we love PlayStation exclusive, so I, I can't argue about PlayStation 4 just to play Spider-Man, so I'm not clearly, I've not been switched on since I completed Spider-Man. So, yeah.
I cannot get, do you know what, it's one of those that I just can't, I just can't get to finish it, I really can't. I'm half way through it, it's another one that I'm half way through when I just put it down. I'm really bad at this, like I'm really bad, and can't understand how I literally will play a game for a bit, put it down and not go back to it for months at a time, like, empathetic, I really am. Cool.
Actually, do you know what, I'm going to make a change to me next one. Right. Because I've just remembered it, and it's very different, it's not very different, but it's different, I feel that the one that I chose next is very similar to where I've already been, and I want to do something a bit different, so I'm just going to put up on my phone. Did you want to do your next one?
Yes, Sammy. If you listen to the podcast previously, when we talk about cartoons, the game I'm going to talk about next, you'll know how much this coverage means to me. Like, say, I'm quite emotionally invested in this game, and like, say, in a franchise, and... Which one have you picked?
I know there's been a few, but to me, the best one is always the original. So the Arkham Asylum, Batman. Right. Okay, well, we'll have a joint conversation because I picked Arkham Knight.
Right, okay. So you went for the larger... I went for the larger one. I went for Arkham Knight because it's the most recent one.
I've played it, and the one I can actually call the conversation with. And yeah, I could pick anyone out of all of them. This series means the world to us, like, the world. It is, again, this is...
God, which one was it? Which one was it? Name some of them, what was the...? It was Arkham Knight.
There was Arkham City. Then there was Arkham Origins. Maybe Arkham Origins. That was the one that wasn't made by Rocksteady.
That was the one that was going for the studios, and that one, although I do love it because it's Batman, that one is the week, the one over the three. It's not that one, it's the one with Ben. It's the one with Ben. You have to pull Ben's things out of his back and...
...pulled up. That was Arkham. That was a... That was a...
... Asylum, wasn't it? No, no, sorry. That was a city.
Because that was the one that Joy took the Venom. Yes, that one. That one. I played that literally after...
Before Years of War. And just after GDA crashed on us. And I needed something else. I picked a Batman game up, and I just fell in love with the franchise.
And did you know I am pulling this up now? This game, I don't know if you knew this, but I didn't until the other day. Because we picked this video game this last week to do. And we're doing it on the back of E3.
Yeah. I wasn't until the other day, and I was like, that totally falls in line with what we're doing. We're kind of on the ball here. Certainly.
Yeah, but yeah, that just was announcing your game. And that is not going to be with Batman. But it's within the Rocksteady studios. It's not Gotham Knight, it's about to do it.
With Gotham Knight's last year. Because there's two new Batman games. It's going to be Gotham Knights, where it's back girl, Red Hood and Nightwing. And the other one that we're doing is Justice League versus Suicide Squad.
So either Suicide Squad. So it's Suicide Squad, Kill the Justice League. Wow, that looks fun. Oh, I saw a trailer for that, ages ago.
Yeah, I know which one you mean on that one. But yes, it comes out in 2022 on that one. One of brothers. Because I know that I got the Knight's was medical this year, but that could put back.
Yes. I absolutely loved Arkham Knight. I remember when it came out, it wasn't that, oh gosh, it was 2015. That one.
I know the original Arkham Asylum come out in 2009. So it was a little bit older. It was 360. But going back to the top of the E, one of the lads on the Facebook groups doing a Mears and commentary.
Everything that's happened, much. Check out his course. He's literally posting everything that gets announced. He's putting all the trailers in the one things next year.
Oh, that's really helpful. Because I am terrible for when I got like, oh my god, I remember a couple of years ago. And was working in a factory. And it was just, it was on nights.
And I literally went to pick them up from work. And we sat watching E3 till it was literally about five o'clock in the morning, till one o'clock in the afternoon and had to really get some sleep. Because it was at work on the same time again. And but it was the, it was the what did you call it?
And it was the one I'm not picking. It's the last of us two. And they did the whole thing for that. I do love E3, but I know Sony is not being there for a couple of years.
So my interest is how the window on that one. Um, go back to Batman. Because I honestly, I was going to do this as my last pick because I thought it would be a conversation. Yeah.
Um, Arkham Knight has, I'm not trying to pit any against the rest of them, but has the strongest voice cast going. I have a list of people who are in this. We'll start with Kevin Conroy. It's Batman.
Yeah. Tower Strong. It's not as Batman. As Batman.
I'm sorry. Tower Strong as Harley Quinn. Get this one. John Noble.
A Scarecrow. Yeah. You just been talking about it in the con room movie review. Um, Cori Keaton is as real.
You will know Miss King of the Guild from, um, What in Dead. Nolan North is the Penguin. Mark Hamill is the Joker and the amazing Roy Baker who is Joel in the last of us playing Arkham Knight Flash spoilers Jason Todd. I love that twist and aspect that it was Jason Todd.
He didn't work. He didn't say it coming. That was the most predictable thing that I thought was about. I said, and did.
And did. But this is how they include up by am. I was thought was hilarious. How the came out and said, we'll create this new behind villain that comics have never seen.
And within the first five minutes of the end of the game, I went for it. So it's a red hodge. It has to be. There's no other person that could have been it's Jason Todd.
And said the same thing. I was proper. Oh, don't found it. I'm probably don't found it.
The only one thing that would have made that better is having Jensen Echols re- recast as Jason Todd because I absolutely love his voice work under the red hood. Every time I look at Jason Todd, I think he'll. Please want to be a fan of the long- Yes he is. He is.
I'm fine. OK. I just preferred him as Jason Todd. Like, honestly, that ending under the red hood breaks us because Jensen is so convincingly angry.
It's amazing. Absolutely amazing. But Arkham Knight has a stellar voice cast and an excellent story. I fucking love this game.
I can go back to this anytime. So yeah, I always argue, I think asylum is the better game out of any of them just because it's more. I'm going to be talking about which one's asylum. If when you're busy, it's stuck in the, because it starts off, so you're driving the door.
You're driving the door. You're driving the door. You're getting them in. I know.
You get killed at Croc. Yeah. As soon as the door takes over, it's not like you're not in control of the asylum anymore. It's that much I get out.
And I love that storyline in the comics I got from asylum where, but this was the first thing, the only play I'm from in Batman here. You, not, it's the gameplay that I'm fighting. Like, the combat system was so intuitive. And I know you said the storyline for Arkham Knight, but in my eyes, the storyline in Arkham asylum was so superior.
Yeah. Because the elements that were in the brought the scare coin when then he brought the toxins. Like, they even had like Bruce's parents taught me. And it's the first time he used detective mode as well.
So you had to find the clues and unlock little Easter eggs for the great. Batman villains that hadn't used as well and the things. So you've not only given you complete machete. You'll find out more about Batman and there was all these other Easter eggs.
I know they're done a little bit with like the Redlers clues and stuff like, killing like the Jokers, Wind Up T, fairly, so often. I was just like, I'm going to get them with the Batman around. Yeah. And like how Batman didn't come with these all these games.
He's like, these tools, what he kind of got them through the game. Do I spy different elements and how they'll get sent them? Like I said, I could pick any one of them. I really could all, but I picked Arkham Knight because even I said really Arkham Knight and I said, that's the one I could possibly call the conversation with because I want to have to pick up the more.
Yeah. It's a whole few with which ones which now that you've said, which at the beginning of Arkham Asylum, I know exactly what it is. I know exactly what it is. And I actually, I'm sick of doing this and I won't be doing it again.
I sell me about months all the time. All the time. I can't tell you how many copies I've had of them and it wasn't until last year, end of last year, I sold them on Amazon, all of them apart from Arkham Knight, which I didn't need because I've never got rid of that one. I am, for the rest of them, I always used to get rid of them, get them back, get rid of them.
And I've just kept doing it for years. And yeah, Amazon's been working for a tenner. One thing I would say as well, just not an Arkham Knight, but this is again, one of the things I've taught me over the game a little bit. There's too many levels in the battle way.
There's too many battle way like I said, it was fun to use it. Like, again, I've come a bit of a crash. So that's why I always like Arkham, it's not even better because it's quite raw. It's quite, actually, you get the detective mode, you've got the stones, or you could go in and dispose heads and kick ass.
Can you hear the noise though? Do, do, do. It's a great amount of time. No, at the end, it's the, um, on Arkham Asylum when he makes an announcement through the tenner.
Oh, yeah. Do it as well. I can't always hear that. Kick off, see, can you not stop that man?
He's not doing any of this, but yeah, to me that one was always like, saying my favorite and again, I can go back to, like, say, any of them games, like, probably Origins is the least favorite. That was when we hear it go strange and not believe it. I can, yeah, I can picture that in the cover because it's all three of them apart from Arkham now, you know, like, you know, like, individual discs, but in the, in like a box set kind of, you know, box set kind of thing. You know, the tenner, and I was like, right, that's the last time, this is the last time.
I'm not buying them anymore, I'm not getting into them because I will, now that we've talked about Arkham Asylum, I've been literally going down that on now. Yeah. I just start and then start again, and then start again. I'm so glad of this.
Well, the thing was, so everything was different on that, like, the, kind of, there wasn't too much reputation. Like, a lot of the games, like, each bit you got in the asylum got a different element and a different person. Even when you get in the cells and you see, like, when you get to the, like, the max security place and you see all the different buildings, that's the laptop, you know, clear-vious change, and you see, you see, and changing things, like, say, it was quite a thing, a quite fun part as well, and I see that, yeah, I see that, that's, that's one of my top, I see top games I would always pick up. Yeah, I totally agree with you, but I'm not downplaying me because it's, I love, I love playing Nightwing.
If I could, honestly, if I could have stopped characters for a very long time, I would have, because I love Nightwing's Magnavility, it was far lighter than Batman, and it was much more easy to move with him. Yeah. I did down, I did buy, sorry, the downloadable Batgirl. Batgirl, I've never been so popping disappointed in all my life.
I love Batgirl, Barbara Gordon is my girl, and I was so loved and forwarded this. She looked like Barbara Gordon from New 52, like, the yellow of the black, she looked at me as a, I played it up for 10 minutes. I paid 20 pounds to play Barbara for 10 minutes. It was great, I was so outraged, I was, and I'm so upset because I really wanted to play Barbara so badly.
But yeah, I did it, I'm not scared. So there we go. Mine, where were we on the before? So that was our number four, yes, we've got two joint ones, feasible, I think, feasible one, New went for the second one, and again, I've been for the original and you went for, so that's my close ones as well, because they were two made up with different, different versions.
And, yeah, exactly, I went for one more, come up with what you went with on Charlotte, which again, like I said, it's a good game, I've just played on it, so I thought it was really confident, but all of our choices have been quite close. Very similar, and it's not what I was expecting, actually, I thought it was going to be like, I generally thought you were going to go like old school, like we were going to be talking about the hedge on stage. Actually, but again, I couldn't talk about it because I'm playing it in the 20s. Look at there, I'm talking about Sonic as basically, it was good, those end rules.
You collected rings, I went around in the circle, I thought I'd do the toy power watch. That's pretty much all I can talk about Sonic, but yeah, but yeah. Doki, so, um, do you want to do your net last pick? Yeah, so what, probably had a similar pick if you haven't changed from the, from the way you're talking.
I'm changing it because it was honestly, I picked it 10 minutes before I came and tried to fight when we competed, and I wasn't feeling it when I wrote it down. So I'm going to change it, I make the rules, I'm changing it. Okay, so this game made me emotional, and not many games have made it emotional. There's been two games for it, I can't play the second one after the part I get up to, and all of the discussions with members of the group about it, it's not for me the second one, because of the way they decided to take it, after what they had put me through in this first game, and the emotional attachment, and I've never been broken in a game before where I'll admit I cried so many times in this game, the last of us.
Paul, that was the one I picked. Yeah, I know, I know he was. That was the one I picked. Nope.
I've already said it though, haven't I? I thought I said last of us too, but I haven't played. I haven't played, I haven't played. I haven't had a week of work last week.
He wanted to finish course this chamber, and he bought last of us too, and it's for the PlayStation 4, so he can play on the 5, then I can play on the 4, and it's still sitting in the kitchen, we have it hasn't been touched, but actually, yeah, what do you mean? Why would you play the second one? Have you heard about the second one? I don't want to know anything about it, because I am going to play it, so I don't want to be there.
I can't see why then. I'll talk about the first one, because the second one again, it gets angry, it gets angry, but the first 15 minutes, or the first 10 minutes of this game, shock shit to your core. You, I don't care who you are if you're a solid gamer, you're not the same after you play the first 10 minutes of this game, because you think it's going to be about something, and it's not really not. And that's just this thought and then sequence, because after you finish the whole aspect of like, getting out of your house, the zombies, you're taking over your door in the car, and you're playing as your daughter, you're not going to play as Joel at this point.
And when she gets killed, and you don't see it coming, I don't care, here you are. Like, say, I was crying, and then all you say is the credits come up to you, I haven't even fucking started the game. Yeah, I know exactly. This is a game that I started when I finished it, and I started it, and it was, I found it so hard.
I wasn't, I wasn't invested. I felt I wasn't invested. I was like, I'm just, I'm not in this, and I just stopped playing. Cut to, I just came out in 2013.
Yes. Two, when did we move out? We moved out to 2017. I had nothing in the house.
The house was getting to the point, because we were on the verge of moving to where we are now. I had the tele, I had the PlayStation, that was about it. And I thought, you know what, I'm going to do this. And I played it again, and I got so invested by the time that end scene comes up, I was hysterical.
Yeah. Absolutely hysterical. And I was so angry that he lied to us. Yeah.
So angry. But you don't understand why, because that's, like, yeah. I thought we get it. But I didn't think that was the word.
I would probably say it with the same. That's the thing. I didn't think that's the way they were. I thought, honestly, it was harsh, honestly, and that's where I thought they were.
