17 Mart 1928 tarihinde İstanbul'un Rami semtinde doğan Neriman Köksal göçmen bir ailenin kızıydı. 1999 yılında 50. sanat yılını kutlayan Köksal, meme kanseri'ne yakalandı. Kanserle bir yıl boyunca mücadele eden Köksal, buna solunum yetmezliği de eklenince konuşma ve beslenme problemleri çekmeye başladı ve durumu ağırlaştı. Köksal'ın son günlerinde en çok sarf ettiği cümlesi "ölmek istiyorum, dayanamıyorum artık." idi. 23 Ekim 1999 tarihinde İstanbul'daki Surp Agop Hastanesi'nde 71 yaşında hayatını kaybetti.
