Nestle asks White House to simplify ingredients on food labels

Does a long list of unpronounceable ingredients freak you out -- maybe prompt you to put down that KitKat bar? Nestle thinks the deck is stacked against it -- and it wants the White House to help. Reuters reported the company is lobbying federal regulators to allow it to use common rather than scientific names on food labels. For example, ascorbic acid would be listed instead as vitamin C. Beta-carotene would be vitamin A. A former Nestle exec says current rules in the U.S. can make it "sound like Frankenstein food" when "it's actually a natural ingredient that consumers have a natural word for."
