Netflix Resurrects Gene Wilder With AI for New Willy Wonka Project

Netflix is set to premiere a new unscripted reality competition series titled Wonka’s The Golden Ticket on September 23, 2026. The show features contestants navigating physical and mental challenges within a replica of the famous chocolate factory, guided by an AI-generated recreation of Gene Wilder’s voice. While the Gene Wilder Estate and the late actor's widow authorized the project to celebrate his legacy, the use of digital replication has sparked significant public backlash and ethical debates. Critics on social media have condemned the move as disrespectful, highlighting ongoing concerns regarding the posthumous use of AI in the entertainment industry. Despite the controversy, the series remains a key part of Netflix’s broader strategy to expand the Roald Dahl universe for modern audiences. This episode includes AI-generated content.
