Neutral is Not an Option

“Choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve . . . but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.” Joshua 24:15 (NKJV) “Each one hopes that if he feeds the crocodile enough, the crocodile will eat him last. All of them hope that the storm will pass before their turn comes to be devoured. But I fear—I fear greatly—the storm will not pass. It will rage and it will roar, even more loudly, even more widely,” wrote Winston Churchill. During the outbreak of World War 2 there were countries that chose to be neutral to the onslaught of the Nazis’ invasions, in hopes of maintaining peace. But Churchill knew that closing their eyes to danger doesn’t make it go away. It, in fact, emboldens the enemy. Every day we are reminded how unbelievably chaotic our world is. And things once thought wrong are now acceptable. When we think bad is not that bad, we are in trouble. That kind of sentiment is sure to mislead us into believing all is good . . . or at least in the end will work itself out. Turning a blind eye to works of the enemy is a poor approach to dealing with such a dangerous foe. For our enemy, that “food for thought” turns into a feast, and our enemy has an insatiable appetite that will not be satisfied. If we believe we can maneuver through life without getting attacked by our enemy, we are sadly mistaken. If we believe we can deceive our enemy into believing we are no threat, we are deceived. Our enemy is like a roaring lion seeking whom he may devour (1 Peter 5:8). He does not play favorites. To remain neutral is not an option.
