Nevada Schools Face Reading Slide | Las Vegas News

Nevada’s reading scores for grades 3-8 dipped for the first time in three years, despite increased K-12 funding—prompting state leaders to call for a more unified strategy to lift student performance. While math saw a small gain, overall proficiency remains low, with fewer than half of students meeting ELA benchmarks and most falling short across subjects. The state aims to boost its share of top-rated schools from 35% to 45% within five years. A new district rating system, evaluating performance, finances, and teacher quality, is now live—with struggling districts set to receive targeted support starting next fall, signaling a stronger push for accountability.
