Never let your insecurities, and assumptions, override your common sense

from A Lawful Truth Podcast · host Andrea Lawful-Sanders

I saw a sister the other day, and began engaging her as usual  but she seemed uninterested and dropped her head.I thought nothing of it and moved on, because she could have been having a bad morningWell imagine my surprise to learn that she was in a funk with me, because I had asked her to do something, and she felt, I never followed through? If she had communicated with me, she would have learned that what she assumed was no follow through, was because the thing had yet to materialize where she would have been asked to join me.She was so miffed, it never occurred to her that just MAYBE, I was being pulled in many directions at once, instead of ignoring her. Here is the rub- I do not know her beyond us seeing each other in a mutual space from time to time—yet, she felt I OWED her something.See that, right there, is a transactional function of which I want no parts. Had she taken the time to get to know me better instead of sitting around waiting for a perfect stranger to come through, this would not have been a thing.I do not mind helping, and showing up for folks without getting a thing in return, and have been offered all kinds of opportunities that I have not taken advantage of, because timing, location, and sometimes energy, is not right. When you are settled in, and work from your authentic spaces, it allows people to see if they want to work with you, or not.Besides, when we force ourselves into places and spaces, the perfume called desperation, leaves a funk, that sets you up for all kinds of nefarious behaviors.Be okay, with simply being. Those who chooses to join you, will do so willingly. No one, is obligated to do a thing for us so then, when they do, we are to accept, or decline, with grace.
