Never Stop Running: How To Take On The Boston Marathon with Chris Russell

from Make Peace With Food · host Sherry Shaban

Chris Russell was born to run. From an early age he would run. He’d race his school bus to school, would run against his father on an abandoned railway, and would run to get in shape for wrestling season. Running was an integral part of Chris’ life, however, as with all things, life got in the way and he found himself focusing on other aspects of his life. That was until one day, in his 30’s, Chris looked in the mirror and didn’t like what he saw. So he did the one thing he knew best - he ran. Since then, Chris has completed over 60 marathons including 21 Boston Marathons.  Chris has also enjoyed training for and competing in diverse events like triathlons, mountain bike ultras, trail running ultras, mountain racing and multi-day relay events. Through all this Chris has enjoyed meeting great people, working with great charities and great sponsors. He continues to train and look for his next adventure, whatever that may be, and practice gratitude. In this episode of the Fall In Love with Fitness podcast, Chris and I discuss what made him start running competitively, how he handles injuries and overcoming them, and whether or not it’s possible to create discipline around running without setting goals.
